Stopped in on our way to Fort Collins and wanted to try the hamburger steak since another reviewer stated it was the best he ever had. I thought it was OK at best but extremely salty. I didn't quite finish it because I was sure I'd already had my salt allotment for the week now. The mash potatoes and gravy were ok too but, again, too much salt in the gravy. We arrived right at lunch and with one cook in the kitchen and a bunch of togo orders, we didn't eat until 45 mins after we sat down. It ended up a disappointment overall since we drove 20 miles out of our way to try this place. read more

Stopped on our way traveling through Hugo since there's not much food options out that way. Prices are great but food was mediocre. I could tell it was family owned which was sweet but it really seemed like we were being passed over for all the locals. It took us +45 minutes to get 2 biscuits and gravy and a burrito. We chose this for a stop going to Denver. Nine of us. Our server was right there. A few things on the menu weren't available. But everyone found something. Some liked the fried appetizers. The cook got it up quickly enough. We were in the room with the dead animal heads above us. Mountain sheep, moose. Great little find on the way to Mount Rushmore. A Mom and Pop place. Food was great and the service was pleasant. The chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes was the best at our table. We also had chicken strips, a burger? Bowl of chili and the patty melt. Everything was excellent. read more

Okay I decided to come here because of the reviews... uh not so much! We entered the restaurant and most tables were dirty. Sat at a table ordered drinks and meal. I was not offered a refill; and the shrimp meal was undercooked and the salad served was not something to brag about. Overall if you are traveling on I-70 and decide to drive out of the way to this place; think again. At least the day I went they had no soup and no roast beef sandwich, and no dessert; and this was around lunchtime. Ugh! I believe they were encouraging us to have the "Special" of the day; but it wasn't what we wanted. Perhaps we should have I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

I sing here about service solely, since I didn't get to taste the final product. Hugo is a small community without the corner Pizza Hut - the closest one is in Limon and they do not deliver to Hugo. But we needed to get some type of meals delivered to some colleagues in Hugo who had been through the veritable ringer for a day or two. I googled "food" near our target and Jean's Family Kitchen popped up. I called and spoke to a wonderfully pleasant female - who I assumed was Jean :) - and let her know what we needed and asked if she could accommodate us. She told us she could get five pizzas to our people and do a remote-payment over the phone. Also, upon my request for a receipt, she assured me she could mail it to me since they don't have a fax machine (small community, remember?). Did they follow through? Yes indeed! We got a message from our recipients that they got their food, and today I received my mailed receipt for the cost. Thus Jean's Family Kitchen came through for us when we couldn't physically be close enough to do so. If I ever am swinging through that part of Colorado, I'll stop in just to say thanks in person - and then I'll see if I can update my review with a perspective on their products! read more

Unless you're a local and have all day to sit and "chew the fat" pass this place by. Waited over an hour and a half for our food. There was one order before us for a BLT and they waited over an hour also. We had a veggie omelette, 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and hashbrowns. The food was cold except the omelette. Coffee was fine. Tasted like the pancakes had cigarette ashes in the batter. Nice people and reasonable prices but not at all worth the wait time. read more

Driving through Hugo, we decided to stop at Jeans for breakfast - my traveling companion was all for pushing on and finding some fast food, but I pressed and we found ourself in Jean's. I had the breakfast burrito with green chile sauce, and it was phenomenal. The sauce is homemade, zippy but not overly so, and the burrito is big. Hash browns were perfect, lots of crispy outside, but moist once you get through. My companion had an omelet that he called "one of the best of his life". I can't speak to any other meal, but breakfast here is killer. Waitress was very nice, decor was about what I expected. read more

The prices are reasonable, we ordered the buffalo burgers with salads. The burgers were great. The salad was an additional charge and it was just plain salad. No crackers or croutons, cheese, or tomatoes. Our daughter ordered Mac-n-cheese. It was made from a box. The bathrooms were in rough shape. The toilet seat was cracked (my daughter said it pinched and scratched her butt). The service was fine. The buffalo was raised locally.
