No stores or ice. Incredible hiking,biking photo ops. Bands every night. Bring your gas firepit as no open fires. There are some areas that have water but mist parking on open meadow so be self contained. Lakes around the area. Very family friendly. Camp owners great people.

The camp host double booked a spot possibly. A spot next to us had opened after a young gentleman had been sitting on the back of his jet skis at the spot next to us at 4pm. just a car and jet skis nothing else. No tent no food. No nothing!!. once they left, we went to the kiosk and paid for the site next to us nooooooooo problem! campsite was not reserved there was no ticket on the post saying it was reserved and no personal items left from the previous guests(kid and jet skis)...this was also about 4:00 in the afternoon where check out is much earlier. About 10min later a lady came and started argueeing with my husband that they had reserved the site.... but we had paid for the site and they had no ticket to prove it or reservation confirmation. If the guest did have a reservation the host never posted on the post which is not our fault the ticket should have been posted on the post before the new guests arrived. Mind you its 4pm way past check out time!! Arguement insued with this lady anf she insists and WE pay her 36 dollars for the camps mistake! The host never offered to refund. We had a ticket and sh3 had no proof of anything!!!! We handed $36 to a lady who may not have had a reservation and scammed us! could have been the camp host friends since the camp host didn't seem to want to help!

Camp host didn't interact with us, just did his job and verified that we paid for our campsite. The campsite was very nice and clean, we were at a perfect distance to walk with our kayaks to the lake. The only bad thing were the bathrooms...they are SMELLY. There's definitely better bathrooms out there but these will do lol. Definitely coming back!!

The place is beautiful and peaceful but for the price they charge they need to do some maintenance or updates really bad.$148 for 2 nights plus $16 for a dog. The bathrooms are so old, sloppy paint, loose shower heads, no where to set your wash rags or shampoo or soap and to top it off they are .25cents a minute. Lake access isn't very good there's one small beach . I would say if you just want to get away and enjoy some peaceful time it's ok, but don't have high expectations for the facility. Not many activities. Tiny store that closes really early.

They should REALLY call that out on the website! Otherwise a great trip. One note, sadly the drought has really dried up the lake. You have to walk about a half mile in to get to it and the beach is not where it was a year ago. We even could see where the water receded in one day. So sad!

I'm not big on camping, but I'll do it. The campgrounds is off the beaten path. We had to take a…read morewindy road to get there. Our group site had plenty of trees that provided shade. There were no showers at this location and only vault toilets, which I was weary of. Even so, it wasn't too bad as we were there only two nights. It got quite dark at night, especially since there was a fire restriction- no campfire. There aren't any hiking trails that I know of, but there is a reservoir close by if you want to swim or do other water activities. Be aware there is very limited cell phone coverage and there are no stores close by.

We brought jet skis and rafts and did not get to use them. Our first night went smoothly, not too chilly and our campsite was clean and dry and we loved our fire pit. However, the weather changed in the early morning the following day and it proceeded to pour down the rest of the weekend. It was 50 degrees or less with wind and we were trying to get on the lake, it's also important to note that there is a bit of a current, so visitors should be careful, especially with children. Our camp host Michael was friendly overall and helpful when we ran out of lighter fluid. I can not stress this enough; create a checklist and pack accordingly!!! There is no store except back in Foresthill, an hour and a half drive up the windy roads. Double up on the essentials like fire wood, lighter fluid, gas for coals, and hand sanitizer! I found it odd that there were some bathrooms with sinks and others without. Also, there are one toilet bathrooms and bathrooms with 2 stalls, but you have to look all over for them. I was grateful we had no wildlife run ins except for the occasional raccoon and giant spider. It's a very remote and quiet campground, I loved that we had no reception because it's forced our group to be present and enjoy the wilderness. I don't know if I would return to this campground because of the bathrooms and it's distance on windy narrow roads, but it was an experience I am glad I had!

Disclaimer: This train ride is mainly for our locals hoping to preserve a piece of history. The…read moreride itself isn't elegant, nor does it travel through an enchanted forrest. Nope you basically follow the El Dorado Trail and see people's backyard with the Gran Finale being the Walmart auto service center. Doesn't sound like much, I know. But believe me when I say its quite the memorable ride! Plus the smile on your kid as he waves at the people walking along side the trail makes it worth a thousandfold its price. The trains are loud, old, original, and bumpy! This is what we paid for! A chance to relive the good ole days when our ancestors had it worse than us and had to endure long rides on a bumpy cold train. It sure made me appreciate my heated seats! The staff consists of passionate volunteers who dedicate their entire Sunday morning (perhaps even more,) to keep the train rides running safe and efficient. You're greeted with nothing but smiles and approachable folks eager to share their knowledge of the El Dorado Western Railroad! Ps. This was their first time re-opening after Covid-19. From what I heard they're trying to work their way up to travel further and fuller! Stay-tuned!
