RUN FOR THE HILLS & DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE! I will absolutely NEVER use this company, specifically Caroline, again for my taxes. As a real estate investor who has a pretty standard W2 job - I wanted an expert to help us (my fiance and I) get the most depreciation from our real estate investments and we were willing to pay the high premium for their expertise. Well boy, were we wrong. At first everything was going according to plan...until it wasn't.... Caroline stopped responding to emails and phone calls until I had to call her assistant multiple times a week to ask for follow ups as we were approaching our tax extension deadline quickly. Finally got a hold of Caroline and she started filing our taxes using all of our documents we sent her from Quickbooks - we also had a brief (under 5 minute conversation about potentially doing a Cost Seg on our new investment property and while we were on the phone, we both agreed it wouldn't be financially beneficial for us to do that this year and we would revisit next year). Then this is where it turned south quickly. Caroline and her team got all of our documents together and since they charged $3,000+ to file our taxes - I thought we would be getting money back to offset it. Well on the phone when she and her team went through the filing, she had stated "great news, we are going to end up with a $14,000 tax return"..... turns out on email the very same day the tax return went from $14,000 to $4,000 so barely enough to cover our costs to hire Jeff Baker & Associates. This was Red flag #1. It was honestly extremely unprofessional to state and get us excited on one number and then put in an email a completely separate number that was much lower. Also, she denies ever saying that number but both of us heard the number loud and clear and had written the same number ($14,000) down in our notebooks - so it just didn't appear out of thing air as she claimed. Red Flag #2 popped up quickly after we had realized that we wouldn't be getting any money back, instead we would be in the negatives this year after paying Caroline & her team. Caroline sends her invoice and what pops up.... an $1,250 additional charge for a Cost Segregation....which again we decided not to do and she mentioned she charged us that amount because we had that conversation with her and she provided expert advise. She then asked if I would consider a $350 discount on the $1,250 fee she was trying to charge us - absolutely laughable. Needless to say after the experience I had with her team by this point....we did not pay the additional $1,250 fee and only paid for the work she did for us. Unfortunately, Caroline and Jeff Baker & Associates was a referral and I didn't do as much due diligence as I should have. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. I would use anyone over Caroline & her team. It was an unsatisfactory experience at best and one that hurt us financially as well. We will never make that same mistake again and would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

A few years ago my CPA retired and Jeff Baker & Associates came to the rescue. A very stressful situation (not having a CPA to prepare my corporate tax return...yikes) was resolved quickly. I was introduced to Nicole and her team and I've been working with them for years now on my tax returns. The team there is always quick to provide tax guidance and their service is speedy but most importantly they communicate well. This firm doesn't even deserve 1 star. These people are near impossible to communicate with and they are obviously inexperienced in managing a CPA firm. Nothing is ever done on time and have cost me money in fees and penalties due to their lacking knowledge and/or customer service. There are many other CPA firms to go to than here. I really didn't want to write this review, but certain practices merit public caution. I have been having my taxes done by this firm for a few years now. The first time, they failed to file the ACA form, but the IRS caught it and sent me the refund due. No big deal, the ACA was new so I understood the mistake. The next year, however, they did it again. Still, the error was in my favor and the IRS caught it, so I didn't say anything. This year, however, my taxes were completed--signed and paid for--on April 11, and I was assured they'd be filed that day. They weren't--and I later learned they had not filed them for nearly two more weeks. In late June I received a late penalty of $410 for the late filing. I notified the firm, and was assured I owed nothing as they'd filed for an extension, and to ignore it. In the meantime, I was assured they would take care of it. A few weeks later I followed up, and was again assured it was taken care of. A few months later, I received a notice of lien. Even more disturbing, I then realized that the taxes had not been filed under my correct address, and it was only due to a vigilant mail carrier that I received the notices. When I alerted the firm, I was again told not to worry about it, they had filed for an extension, and I didn't owe anything. At this point, I paid it myself, and requested that they reimburse me as it was their error. My request was ignored. I had also asked several times why they filed for a late extension when the taxes were completed. I was never told anything other than they do that for everyone, "as a courtesy." Eventually, I received a flippant, "We made a mistake." They refused, however, to reimburse me for their error, despite my having paid them about three grand that year alone to do my taxes. Now bear in mind I have not been a problematic client in any way, at least not until this issue came up. But the consistent disregard and disinterest I received when I alerted them to the fact that their late filing had nearly led to a lien on my home, and had cost me an unnecessary penalty of over $400, plus interest, was really the final straw. As for Jeff Baker, the supposed head of this firm, he couldn't even be bothered to reply to my concerns. So my advice to anyone looking for a reliable accounting firm, keep looking. read more

It may be legal for a CPA firm to be unknowledgeable about IRS rules and /or fail to provide information to their clients but it is certainly unethical. If you are looking for timely and accurate help you with the IRS do not waste thousands of dollars paying Jeff Baker and associates. We paid more than $1000.000 to Jeff Baker and Associates to file past personal taxes. The CPA instructed us not to pay particular portions to the IRS telling us our tax returns would be applied to that bill. Jeff Baker and associates failed to notify us, or failed to educate themselves on IRS rules that do not allow you to claim returns after 3 years. Because of the misinformation we unexpectedly owe the IRS thousands of dollars. Jeff Baker & associates retained over $1,000 as payment for services they did not accurately provide and then have not returned our Calles, voicemail or email asking for help. We were better off before paying these accounts. read more

I paid Rick Peterson twice as much as I paid my last accountant to prepare my 2016 tax return. There were typos, omissions, and mistakes in the return he prepared and I ended up owing the IRS hundreds. Ultimately, I paid Jeff Baker and Associates HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS in order to PREPARE MY OWN TAXES for the 2016 year via an amended return and accompanying forms so that I wouldn't owe the IRS. Rick took an extended amount of time to prepare my family's taxes, and yet each member of my family received correspondence from the IRS because of a mistake he made with their return. What's worse, he stopped responding when I raised these issues to him. There are MANY accountants who can prepare taxes correctly. I recommend you find one of them because Rick Peterson at Jeff Baker and Associates is not interested in and incapable of preparing your taxes accurately. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY FIND ANOTHER ACCOUNTANT!!! The long and short of it is Rick Peterson charged us almost $600 (above his regular rates) because HE procrastinated and made us pay for his mistake. We run a small business and use Quicken, so we had all the documents/receipts/losses categorized and tallied when we sent them to him. Basically all he needed to do was punch in the number and calculate a few items to be depreciated (which is why we hired him. We weren't sure how to do depreciation.) We gave Rick all this information on April 1, 2020. Due to Covid19 he had until July 2020 to file. NOTHING HAPPENED. On the IRS deadline day, we called 4 times to see if he had already filed or if WE needed to file an extension. Finally the Office Manager told us he would file an extension and we needed to send them an electronic signature. My husband and I couldn't make the electronic signature work, even with them walking us through it on the phone. They finally told us to forget it. In August we get the $600 additional bill for him filing the extension and the signature fiasco. BTW, we would have filed for the extension ourselves (for free) had we known he was going to procrastinate for 4 months. We sent Jeff Baker and Rick Peterson a letter protesting these outrageous additional charges. We don't think it's right to charge US for HIS procrastination. Their reply was to send us another bill with late fees. We sent a letter and the full payment (including late fees) saying we were paying these fees only because we didn't want our credit rating to go down and if we couldn't discuss a compromise -- we would be picketing their office next tax season. IT'S TAX SEASON and today we went to picket their office with hopes they would come out and discuss the situation. Did they? No. They called the Sheriff and wanted us run off or at least intimidated. We are within our rights to protest these fees and we plan on doing so -- all tax season. We feel it is our DUTY to warn the unsuspecting public of their devious charges/fees. I am not impressed with them at all. My husband and I went to them last year to have them amend our 2016 tax return. We also had them do our 2017 Tax return. These two cost us 2,000.00. It has been 9 months and we still have no received any refund for the IRS in which we were owe almost 4,000. They (IRS) is very difficult to get a hold of and Rick refuses to call and help us get answers without charging us. He says "The IRS can do what whatever they want to do" He is saying that the charge is for the taxes themselves and nothing else. I feel that they should change the IRS for no charge to get answers on why it is messed up. I'm 100% sure that it's the IRS/Rick mistake. In the very beginning the IRS flagged it cause they did not send the addition paper work with it. By the reviews it looks like they can't handle amended tax returns. We paid them 2000.00 thinking that we would be getting almost 4000.00 back instead we paid them 2000.00 and aren't getting anything back instead they want to continue to suck money out of us. read more
