I'm giving this review four stars instead of five only because; each time I visit or call this courthouse, I'm met with a harsh attitude from the employees. I've visited the Revenue office, property tax office and driver's license office and not a smile, courtesy or personable customer service throughout any of these spaces. Your questions may or may not be answered by the first employee but eventually you'll receive an answer. So completing the service is a 4, but the customer service is a 1. I scheduled my daughter 3 weeks in advance for her learner's permit test at this office. The test was scheduled for 8am Friday April 18, using the DMV website. I received an email confirmation for that date, time and location. We had gathered all the documents listed on the website. The morning of the appointment my husband and daughter got up early and drove the 40 minutes from our home in Leeds to this courthouse. On the way we received a text with a link to check in for the appointment - but when they arrived, the building was CLOSED. A line was outside with people who had appointments. After all the preparation we had done, it is absolutely ridiculous that we were able to schedule an appointment, receive confirmation AND check-in information when the building wasn't even going to be open that day. We are furious. This service is funded BY taxpayers FOR taxpayers and yet the taxpayers seem to be the last people considered here. This kind of crap has become accepted in the community because "this is just how government operates." Absolutely unacceptable. If I could leave zero stars I would. My husband and I both work full time outside the home and don't have many days we can use during the work week away from our jobs. This is shockingly absurd and infuriating. read more

I would give this courthouse a zero (0). What type of backwoods courthouse is the 20th century doesn't have an handicap entrance? My elderly parent who has a wheelchair had to try to walk a very long distance and now bedridden due to a visit trying to renew her driver's license. This is an outrageous/outdated building and should have current building codes to accommodate individuals with disabilities/handicap. This is shameful and disrespectful to those individuals with disabilities/handicap. read more

Ok, this isn't a mistake, I'm giving them a 5 star rating. Now, that probably has a little something to do with the fact that I got the results I was looking for. First, parking is really not bad. Plenty of free parking all the way around the courthouse, and you shouldn't have any problem finding a spot to park, especially if you arrive 10 - 15 min early. Short security screening when you enter the front doors. Anything in your pockets goes through the x-ray machine and you walk through a metal detector. Walking up to the second floor I was first in line (5 min before they opened) to get in. Once they opened I proceeded to the first person and started to explain why I was there. The person beside her introduced herself and told me she had been the person helping me on the phone and asked me to come over to her. Friendly and super helpful. She had her manager help out and they had me in and out in about 15 minutes. The staff here were so friendly, both on the phone and in person. The staff totally made this a 5 star experience. read more

If possible I would give -100 stars. I went to take care of some business had the paperwork and the card. The rep in the probate told me they can not use the card. So I brought them cash them her lazy a** tell me I can't file at the Bessemer location. Also she to lazy or don't know what she is doing so she had to ask her coworker how to do something. If you don't want to do your job get and allow someone that know what they are doing and want the job. You don't have to lie just cause you don't want to do what you are hired to do. It was the lady with lots that look like short sister locs and her desk is on the right when you enter. Jefferson county Court house need to find some employees that want to do their job and let all these LAZY A** go. read more

The young lady that helped me with my tag was nice and helpful. She must be new and hasn't gotten jaded yet. The last two visits I have been amazed at the kindness I experienced. Too bad they are the exception to the usual. read more

Where to start, I transferred from GA to AL. Since i was new i had to get an AL license... I understand coming from a more up to date state things would be different here. What i was not ready for was the waiting in a very long line to get a license. The first time we were here, the 2.. yes i said 2 ladies averaged about 8 people in 5 hours to get thru the line. Of Course that vacation day was wasted as i did not get seen that day.... The next time i went, i got there at 6:45AM..... the doors opened up at 7:45.. I was first in line... I finally got my AL license... a paper copy nonetheless, but i was done. I have some advice if you come here, get here early, wait outside, and have ALL your needed documents!!!!! I could not tell you how many folks i have seen waiting outside like i did and NOT have the correct paperwork... I understand these are government workers, but a sense of urgency and speed would be greatly appreciated...maybe if they got paid on the amount of folks they helped it would change. The only reason i gave this place the second star is, once i finally got seen the lady did have a sense of humor... not much mind you, but some... i was out by 8:40 am.. yes i was first in line.... and took her 40 min to process me thru... So if you can go else where i highly recomend it, if not get her at the crack of dawn to save your day!!! read more

The building is super nice with free parking. This was my first time in the facility and I am totally impressed.

While it may be faster to use this courthouse verses the one downtown, don't expect to enjoy your trip. Especially for driver licence renewals. The lady here really seems to hate her job and appears to be over worked. It shows because she has got a major bad attitude and is rude to most everyone. While I feel bad for her on one hand, I'm still not pleased with how she likes to take it out on the people who shes serving, AKA the public, you know the ones who pay her salary. Also, the whole 'wait in line to get a number' thing is ridiculous. Why can't you just walk in a get a number like everywhere else? I have to go back soon to deal with getting a vehicle registration hopefully that office is a little better to deal with than the licences department. read more

There is nothing better than knowingly taking a vacation day to get a vehicle registration or a license updated. (Sarcasm) I will say I have only been to two different places to get my license but it seems that a 4+ hour wait is a little much to ask of anyone. My vehicle registration was a 3+ hour wait. If you are able to go somewhere else to get your tags or license I recommend doing so. read more
