Best hospital in the Pittsburgh area. I have always been treated with kindness and dignity at Jefferson. The nurses are the absolute best! I also want to say that because of a doctor in the emergency department, two very tiny tumors were found on my pancreas and kidney. Because this doctor tried several ways to find out what was ailing me, my cancers were discovered at a very early stage. Under the care of the oncology tea, I am cancer free! read more

Mgr. of Anesthesiology refused to use a manual blood pressure cuff for a 15 min. procedure when I took a written letter from another doc to use a manual, not an automatic. His ass't called shortly prior to proc. saying they could not accommodate me each time & to go elsewhere if I didn't like it. She said they were short handed & required extra staff for a 15 min. procedure. He was argumentative & coerced me to sign a form if he needed to use it because a manual was outdated. Now, my arm is jerking from nerve pain all nite. He did what he wanted to do. I had an excellent surgeon, but I would not recommend their Manager of Anesthesiology. read more

The quality of medical care I received was very good. I had some serious heart testing completed. However the administrative staff is absolutely horrendous. Unpleasant, unprofessionall, and deliberately unhelpful. The older staff members at the multii-test section are especially rude and ineffective. This was unfortunate especially considering I was there for some holiday stressful testing and a difficult medical situation. They need additional supervision and interpersonal skills training. My treatment there absolutely put me off of ever returning to Jefferson hospital. I will avoid the facility unless alternatives are not available. read more

Total non-professional staff You would think going to the hospital is the last place you want to go, then you go and then half to deel with inadequate service. If you are dying or in need of medical assistance, I would think before going to Jefferson Hospital if you want to get better!! After my visit to the emergency room on 12/30/2024 I would not recommend this ER to anyone. Once my family member was taken to a treatment room at 12:30 on December 30th we did not see anyone till the nurse returned at 2:30 to advise my family member that an X-ray was ordered, no physician assessed my family member, once the x rays were completed the nurse appeared again to connect him to the monitor and to advise us that she would be giving him a pain pill, again no physician has yet to see my family member and the X-rays were not resulted yet as per the smart board located on the wall in the treatment room. At 3:00 pm I put the call light on for someone to come to the room. A tech responded and was very polite, stating that she just started her shift, I specifically to know what the plan was since we have not seen a physician assessed my family of yet. I advised that I was a nurse and that I am aware of protocols. The tech responded that she would check with the assigned nurse. At 4:00 pm still no one came into the room. I went to the door and looked out at the desk and identified Dr stepansky at the desk who promptly advised me very loudly and with an attitude YELLING FROM THE DESK TO THE DOOR ENTRANCE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS TREATMENT ROOM "I KNOW MA'AM, I WILL BE RIGHT IN, THIS IS AN ER AND WE ARE BUSY" to which I replied I am aware. Dr stepansky did come into the room at 4:10 at which time his demeanor was extremely rude, dismissive and condescending. When my family member advised Dr stepansky that I was a nurse he remarked "OH I HEARD" in a totally rude and unprofessional and unacceptable manner. If Dr Stepansky I cannot handle the patient load at an ER, maybe he should find a different position that will not require him to care for all of the patients that enter instead of what he perceives as not necessary to see. I cannot ascertain why anyone would order testing or medications without ever seeing the patient. When Dr Stepansky did enter the room, it appeared to be a bother to him and when he was overhead paged to a phone call he could not even finish his conversation with my family member before running out of the room. I immediately asked for discharge orders from anyone who could hear me from the door and requested a nurse to discharge him. Of course that request was immediately responded to. As I was leaving the ER to get my car for my family member, the bedside nurse assigned to my family member was apologizing to me. This is a very poor example of what an ER physicians role is. I am not unfamiliar with the workings of an ER and without a doubt this visit was the worst I have ever witnessed or experienced. As a nurse, I am aware that different patients require different assessments,but the lack of concern or care toward my family member was clearly neglectful and with little thought for the treatment of a patient in the ER at Jefferson Hospital, every patient that enters the emergency department deserves compassionate and thoughtful care from the medical professionals that are there to provide it. Where do I begin. I have been having fainting/dizzy spells for the last few days, and I had one so bad today that it took me to their emergency room. There are many great choices in the Pittsburgh area, and I had to choose the worst ER I have ever been too. I got a major panic attack on the way there, and it was pretty scary. I got there and went back to the triage area where I had three of the rudest nurses I could have. They wouldn't let me talk. I told them I was in the middle of a panic attack, and I didn't have my anxiety meds, and it fell on deaf ears. I also knew once I get these dizzy spells I couldn't just sit I needed to lay down. I tried to relay that, but they never listened, and brought me back out to the waiting room with a full blown panic attack and such dizziness I thought I would pass out. They would call me back once for an x-ray and one for a CT scan and I begged the people who were wheeling me since I had their ear to relay I needed a bed. But kept getting this isn't my job responses. I get that, and I'm a reasonable person, but I could not get one person's attention on my own. I was in the waiting room with a panic attack for five hours. I couldn't calm down because I was so upset that they were so dismissive. They finally took me back and every bed back there was empty. They really could have kept me comfortable while I was waiting on tests so I could get rid of my panic attack. I wasn't too fond of the nursing staff back there as well. My dizziness was never addressed until I had to say something to the PA treating me, and only then did he offer me anything. That was the main complaint in my visit! They made me feel I did not matter, and I never felt like that at any hospital in any city I have been to. When I got home I noticed they didn't have the decency to even take those heart monitor stickers off of me. I wasn't even going to get an explanation as to why I was so dizzy until I asked. 0 stars. Horrible, vindictive nurse has made it impossible for my 79 y/o aunt to visit or even call her 80 y/o husband of 56 years while he's an inpatient. Nurse was hours late with his tube feeding and when my aunt questioned her, she was condescending and made false accusations against my aunt resulting in a 79 y/o woman being escorted out by 4 security/police and banning her from the grounds. Now they are threatening to put him in a facility against his and her will and threatening to charge her with harassment simply for calling more than once a day to check on him. This is horrendous treatment of the elderly and a veteran! The entire healthcare system should be ashamed! Jefferson health deserves zero stars and should be investigated for elder abuse. read more

Were it not for a caring and earnest chief administrator and a conscientious student nurse, I would have perished from neglect or frustration during my extended stay. How Osha didn't shut down this hospital yet is beyond me. A Nurse removed my IV without gloves, make matters worse. it was during the corona outbreak scare. I was laying in a hospital bed without a diagnosis but taking meds and had an IV in. So what was I being treated for when no one knew what my diagnosis was. I had to ask, (TWO DAYS LATER) what my diagnosis was and what I was being treated for. Finally, after much debate, they sent me for a CT scan which is the boilerplate basic protocol if you ask me. The medical professional school rejects from all walks of life work here. BUYER BEWARE! RUN!!! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU CAN HELP IT. Hospital food is awful, worse when most of the food looks like something I wouldn't even feed my dog. read more

My father received very poor care. I had him transferred to another hospital after seeing too many mistakes, too much complacency, and a general lack of communication and diligence in his care. A staff member from a different unit also witnessed his care and stated they were ashamed to work there after seeing his condition, his hygiene, and the condition of his room. His health declined rapidly. Upon transfer it was determined that he needed to be in the ICU. Within 24 hours at the new hospital, he completely turned around surprising everyone. He was transferred to a regular room and will be released this weekend. I strongly believe that had I left him at Jefferson another day, he'd be dead. On a side note, this hospital is old and the rooms are ridiculously small to the point of hazardous. Avoid this hospital. read more

Had a very good experience when taking my child. We were treated very well. They got us into a room within minutes of us checking in at registration. We were there for a while, but they checked on us regularly and kept us posted I. What was going on. They definitely took care of us! Today is my third visit to this office. I have my mammograms here. No one likes to have a mammogram done. It's awkward for most women. The staff here is very kind and very gentle and there is very little awkwardness. It's the experience you want when having a mammogram. In this pavilion there is an Imaging Center, doctor's offices, and a gym. This faculty was expanded last year and needed it. A lot of people are finding this little gem and it has to grow to keep up with the people who use it. read more

if I could put no stars I would the nurses are innapropriate in the surgical floor they will literally just want to see a mans private area and if your Hispanic they will treat you really bad comments were said like "where Are you from what are you doing" here meaning what we're doing in the US other comments like " labor hurts worse than the surgery you got " one of the guy nurse was putting socks on me roughly after surgery please save your time and money !!! This has to be one of the most unprofessional, unorganized "hospitals" in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania! If you are disabled or elderly your needs will not be met and infact you will be treated poorly if you ask. One of there favorite things to say to patients is "this isn't our problem." Even the supervisors of the ER will not help with your needs. And if you are one of the many people unfortunately visiting the ER good luck getting transportation home. "ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM" after milking your insurance, your family without guidance, will be told to find you an ambulance because "it's not their problem" and a staff member told me people get stuck in the ER all the time, for days, because transportation out of the hospital is not their problem. When you ask what you can do they simply say I don't know. PLEASE IF YOU CAN, AVOID THIS HOSPITAL. They do not treat you as a person but as a problem! read more

Visiting from Syracuse, NY and my son gashed his head open after a fall. Went to the ER and was shocked by the inadequate process of this ER. My son was not triaged (seems like a first come, first serve ER?????!!!!). No medical history was taken prior to treatment. No inquiries as to what pain meds he had been given today. No offer of pain meds after hitting his head. No BP taken. Just inadequate, negligent care. We DID get stitched up by a Dr. who did a nice job. We have 7 kids, 3 with special medical needs, so we are constantly in and out of hospitals. Just honestly stunned by the lack of attention to medical details we are used to in Syracuse. We will definitely not return here if we are in need of medical care. read more

How does this hospital not have more bad reviews is beyond me. I had surgery for a torn acl which the doctor didn't really seam like he wanted to do it. Went I. To the surgery center had it down even though I was ready to run away from this shit hole. Went into recovery where for six hours I laid in a bed in pain. Was given a nerve block that did not take the doctor had no clue what in the hell he was doing. Then after an hour he called other doctor to come and do it. No on answered to have him mess me up even more. I was in so much pain I should of went been hospitalized. Was sent home with perks that cause me to have an allergic reaction. Was taken back to the hospital to be treated like I was lying. I sat in a bed for four outs without pain meds the last one I took was at 2 pm so I was pretty much hurting. Was told that if I didn't cooperate that I would be place in a mental health floor for five days. Finally after they found out I was telling the truth they finally gave me pain meds. And for their asshole behavior they put me in the hospital. The nurses where cool but the doctors omg ! I had a knee surgeon come in open my brace and then walk out. My pcp acted like I was pill seeking I just had freaking surgery for Christ shake! This is why I don't go to the doctors stupid stuff like this! Even if I get bitten by a tick I will never go to this hospital for anything ever again read more

This five star rating goes to Reverend Paul. While my wife was still living she had open heart surgery at Jefferson Hospital and a leg amputated and many ,many other visits . Every time the Reverend Paul came around to offer comfort and prayer and companionship friendship. I believe he is truly a man of God because he demonstrated the characteristics of kindness ,gentleness and love that only a godly man could deliver. Over the past 5 to 6 years my wife Cindy went through so much and I know that she was blessed to have a man like the Reverend Paul pray for her and comfort her. Robert Kemble. read more

I want to thank the staff of Jefferson Hospital for all that was done for me during my stay. I was in the bariatric unit and Judy and Lisa (the nurses) couldn't have been more helpful and professional. They were constantly checking on me and making sure that I had enough liquids. I would recommend anyone who is considering bariatric surgery to consult with Dr. Askehirli's office and to have the surgery done here. It was practically painless. read more
