    Nerissa H.

I got a submental lipo done on my chin early November of this year and I absolutely love my results. Him and the team at UCLA took excellent care of me the day of surgery, and I felt completely safe and comfortable the entire time I was in their care. Dr. Rawnsley is an excellent surgeon, and I am absolutely obsessed with my results!! I feel like a new person when I see my side profile, and I love how my face looks in pictures.

My story is a bit of a long one, and I'm still going through it. I had been wanting rhinoplasty for about 15 years, I had a broken nose from an athletic injury an also wanted the dorsal hump reduced, and the tip slightly reduced as well. I just wanted it to appear a bit straighter from the front and to have a straight profile with a slightly smaller tip. I had a septoplasty done in the right nostril as well to help with breathing. I met with the Dr back in June and he had a very good bedside manner. His patient coordinator was very friendly as well, but she has lately stopped being friendly and has become cold as this whole process has played out. I feel so naive and stupid for not doing more research. They got me in very quickly and I had been waiting so long I was ready to take the plunge. I had my surgery done on July 30th and for the first month, everything looked great, with the exception of the underside, where the nostrils were very asymmetrical, but he assured me that was swelling. That's when things started to go wrong. A week after the surgery the cast came off and the nose looked great from straight on, but the doctor left stitches in so I had to come back the next day. I also developed a weird cyst where the right nostril and left nostril fused together. He is so scatterbrained and is always trying to get you out as fast as possible he was about to walk away when I said "hey, what about the cyst?" He then came back, cut my nostril away from the center and cauterized it. About a week later a wound developed on the inside of my left nostril that hurt really bad. I came in to see the doctor and he said nothing was wrong. The following week my tip ballooned up quite badly and was burning and red. Turns out I developed a staph infection and had to go on antibiotics for three weeks. During this time the doctor never called me once, his patient coordinator did email me every few days however, to make sure I was okay. A few weeks after that a small bump has now popped up on the bridge where the dorsal hump used to be. The doctor tells me to press on it ten times and day and that it should go away but it's been two weeks and has not gone away. My nose is now more crooked than it was before surgery, and a large chunk was taken out of my left nostril. Every time I try to bring this up I'm told "it's just swelling, it will settle" but I know I need a graft to fix that nostril. The doctor keeps saying I look great and brushing me off and if we have to do revisions we can come back in a year but I'm not comfortable with him touching my nose again. I'm currently looking for a revisionist surgeon at a massive cost and I can't get my money back, especially with the office ghosting me.

    Pic right after cast removal.

I've been lucky enough to have had great care at UCLA for screening and risk reduction. Once I was done having and being able to breastfeed my children, my first priority was a prophylactic double mastectomy to make sure I was reducing my risk to ensure I could be around for my kiddos. That was a no brainer. The harder choice? What type of reconstruction (or any at all) to have that fit my life. Enter Dr Slack. We had SO many conversations about the pros and cons of each options, how many procedures each would entail, and so much more. I am so so grateful I found Dr. Slack to be a true partner throughout this whole process. In the end I opted for a DIEP flap, where tissue from my stomach was used to reconstruct breasts, which included quite complex blood vessel attachment and subsequent revision to ensure the shape was natural. I cannot say enough great things about how happy I am to have natural tissue (my weight fluctuates and I have concerns about foreign substances in my body). My kids snuggle me and I am able to feel comfortable in my body. In the process I ended up with a bit of a mommy makeover where my belly skin was improved post pregnancy. I'm now almost two years post-op and am able to retain sensation and have continued losing weight and my body adjusts normally. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Slack's incredible surgical skills, bedside manner, follow up and more. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Slack for giving me the body and confidence I have today.

Offices were spam calling me back daily or bombarding me with emails like ad agencies lol. Or that typical tiktok "this doctor has THIS special technique" which felt sooo gimmicky and fake. I never felt like I really got to see PS doctors as medical providers and get to speak to them without the shiny Beverly Hills facade. Plastic surgery does have this trendy side.. i get it. But it is still a very big medical procedure and I really felt like I just couldn't trust a lot of these flashy doctors I'd spoken to... I lost around 40 lbs and I always dreamed of fixing my lower pooch area - my case is a little odd because I haven't had kids yet and am relatively lean - I was looking for a really refined result. AND zero BS. just tell me what's possible and what's not. Dr. Kim didn't take a crazy consultation fee. I didn't wait months for a consultation. He didn't try to sell me anything. His office looks and works like an actual (clean and beautiful) medical office. I never waited for my appointments. During my consultation, he gave me plenty of time to ask questions and voice my concerns. I didn't feel like I was being spoken down to or being sold a used car. Finally felt like I'm speaking with a doctor who can actually lay out to me exactly what to expect moving forward, the downsides and upsides of my options, and what was and wasn't possible. Nothing was downplayed or overexaggerated. I had never had surgery before and so I really wasn't ready to have a big procedure like a tummy tuck. I asked if there was a more conservative option for my loose skin/pooch - we settled on a mini tuck with lipo to remove a large portion of my problem area - with the door always open for a full if I ever wanted. Dr. Kim was supportive, nonjudgmental and honest about whatever decision I chose. Results - my mini TT results were BEAUTIFUL. My stubborn lower pooch was totally smoothed out - no lipo ripples or weird creases. I recovered in like 2 weeks. No infections, no broken stitches, no seromas, no hypertrophic scarring, no dead skin, just... nothing. Dr. checked in with me after surgery multiple times to make sure I was doing okay. My garment fit comfortably and I was on just tylenol by the end of day 2. My incision healed into a thin, fine line which was sooo easily covered in a bikini. Way later when I was finally ready for a full tummy tuck surgery to reach the last bits of loose skin, the ease of my decision was in large part influenced by how smooth my past experience was. I trusted I was in good hands, and I was right. AGAIN, the entire procedure despite being a WAY bigger one, was just as smooth as the first time. Drains were easy. Stitches dissolved easily. The new incision is exactly where we planned for it to be - thin, and very very low and replaced my older scar. I entrusted Dr Kim to decide whether muscle repair was needed or not - he said he will if needed, since we're already in there let's make it perfect! I am snatched lol :'D my belly button looks so cute with a little hood, it looks natural and lovely. I'm around 3 weeks out and my incision is already so clean and healing very well. At this point, I can say I have a very good idea of how Dr Kim's office works, the pre op, surgery, the follow up, as well as healing/recovery. All the girls remember me, they make scheduling extremely easy, are fun to talk to, and before and after my operation my nurse really made me feel safe, cared for, and at ease. I was given all instructions and medications promptly and on time, as well as the Dr's personal number for any issues at all. Everyone has their own experiences and surgery is a big decision which can have unpredictable outcomes. But for me, choosing Dr. kim (twice) was the best decision I made for myself. Thank you Dr Kim and team :')

After my double mastectomy, Dr. Da Lio handled my breast reconstruction, including tissue expanders and later implant surgery. Dr. Da Lio's reconstruction work is truly exceptional. I was very worried about scarring because I had a breast reduction years ago and was never happy with those scars. His incision work is beautiful, precise, and seamless. One year after my first surgery, and about five months after my implant surgery, my scars are barely visible and continue to fade. Before choosing Dr. Da Lio, I had two other consultations. Once I met with him, I felt safe. He is kind, calm, professional, and clearly takes his work very seriously. During a frightening time, I felt seen, respected, and cared for. I was also worried about pain after surgery. The pain was much more manageable than I expected, and once I was home, I did not need to take any pain medication. That gave me so much peace of mind.
