I cannot recommend Dr. Andrew L. Da Lio highly enough. I had DCIS breast cancer and am BRCA1-positive. After my double mastectomy, Dr. Da Lio handled my breast reconstruction, including tissue expanders and later implant surgery. Dr. Da Lio's reconstruction work is truly exceptional. I was very worried about scarring because I had a breast reduction years ago and was never happy with those scars. His incision work is beautiful, precise, and seamless. One year after my first surgery, and about five months after my implant surgery, my scars are barely visible and continue to fade. Before choosing Dr. Da Lio, I had two other consultations. Once I met with him, I felt safe. He is kind, calm, professional, and clearly takes his work very seriously. During a frightening time, I felt seen, respected, and cared for. I was also worried about pain after surgery. The pain was much more manageable than I expected, and once I was home, I did not need to take any pain medication. That gave me so much peace of mind. He is an outstanding plastic and reconstructive surgeon, especially for breast reconstruction after mastectomy. His bedside manner, professionalism, surgical skill, and attention to detail are excellent. His team has also been wonderful. Molly and Letty were both kind, helpful, and responsive throughout the process. Molly was always cheerful and organized, and Letty was very kind and supportive. My young son suffered a very complex facial laceration on a Saturday night. Dr. Da lio came in from home without hesitation to take my son to the operating room for repair and multi-layered closure. His calm and friendly bedside manner put us at ease in what was a very stressful moment, and his surgical skills are absolutely top notch. It's been about a month and the closure is barely visible. I was diagnosed with DCIS last year as part of my annual mammogram. Needless to say, it came as a complete shock given my age and family history. I went to the same breast cancer specialist my mom went to at UCLA. I decided to be as proactive as possible and do a bilateral mastectomy. My doctor referred me to Dr. Da Lio at UCLA Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. It's been about ten months since my mastectomy/reconstruction, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Da Lio and I decided to do a DIEP flap surgery. This is one of the best traits of Dr. Da Lio - every decision feels like we made it together and not like a surgeon telling me what he plans to do to my body. From the start, he was warm, caring and kind, and he showed that same level of empathy to my anxious family as well. A DIEP flap surgery is complicated and requires incredible skills. In fact, most patients need touch-ups after the initial procedure but I didn't. Dr. Da Lio is an artist. My breasts look and feel just as natural as before, and they look better than ever. My stomach is flat and looks amazing. This surgery has done wonders to my self-esteem and has helped me get past one of the most difficult and terrifying periods in my life. Thank you, Dr. Da Lio. I wish I could give Dr. Da Lio five stars but I want to be honest for any trans people out there looking at him for top surgery. First of all, my results were AMAZING! I was honestly surprised when Dr. Da Lio said I was eligible for peri-areolar but elated nonetheless. When I eventually was able to take my bandages off, I noticed that they actually did keyhole. I would say there was a bit of a communication error there but I am so so happy with my results I honestly can't complain. My chest healed super fast with pretty much zero complications. It's been about 5 months now and I have a completely cis passing chest, no scars, 100% beach tested and approved. Now I will admit, the process from consultation throughout surgery was not ideal. My consultation was rather uncomfortable. As a pre-op trans man who had just started T, the topic of my chest was a very sensitive one. Dr. Da Lio didn't seem to have much experience with the trans community. To be fair, he works a lot on cis women, but he did misgender me twice at my first appointment and honestly said a few comments that rubbed me the wrong way. Due to my financial situation and limited options (and the amazing result pictures he showed me), I stuck with him as my surgeon. I do not regret it one bit but the awkwardness was definitely consistent throughout the entire process. His bedside manor is subpar and his understanding of the trans community is not as great as it could be. (He did get excited for me that I could go swimming shirtless tho ) That said, I still would recommend Dr. Da Lio. If you're a trans man and your priority is social comfort then maybe Dr. Da Lio isn't for you but if you are looking for amazing, I MEAN AMAZING, results, he is your guy! read more

A couple of years ago I accompanied a close friend to several appointments with plastic surgeons. She was in search of someone to perform a reconstruction after prophylactic breast removal. My friend is a very subjective and thorough researcher. She took me along to help her with the decision. I went to Dr. Da Lio for filler around my mouth area. I had my eyes done by another surgeon & it took 10 years off my face, except for the mouth area. I showed up 10 min early and was taken in within minutes. Dr Da Lio entered within 5 min & had a wonderful bedside manner. His assistant's did, as well. I showed him where I wanted the filler, he already knew. I did not request numbing cream, although, it was offered. I didn't even need it. It's not that painful of an area. I will definitely go back for other Injectables & a lower facelift when the time is right. He has a gentle touch & knows what he is doing..read his bio!! It's less than a week out & I see a significant difference. There is an area I think I need more in, but I'm going to wait a couple weeks & see what happens. FATPHOBIC!!! Avoid Dr. Da Lio if you are in any way shape or form, could be considered anything slightly over chubby. I was recc'd to him for top surgery for FTM and went thru the whole process only when I finally met him he told me no because of my weight he was uncomfortable with doing surgery because of my size. BUT then he recommended 2 different surgeries I should do to lose weight before coming back to him. If its unsafe for me to do surgery then why are the other two okay? If he didn't want to do it because of my size he should have just said so instead of making a BS answer and shaming me in front of his nurse as well. I see a lot of positive reviews, so maybe this doctor is pleasant with certain women. I'm a trans woman who went to see him for a breast augmentation because my insurance approved him. He mocked my body, saying I had the build of an athletic male swimmer. Believe me when I say this is not the case. I am tall but extremely thin and narrow. Regardless, he proceeded to show me his portfolio of trans patients, which consisted entirely of tragically botched women. He advised going 100cc or under or I'd risk looking like his other results. I decided to go to another doctor and pay full price to avoid going under the knife with him, and I can't say how grateful I am. I went with 400ccs(a number he laughed at the idea of giving me) and they look amazing, natural, and perfectly compliment my frame. I could've paid $100 to see dr da lio, and instead I paid thousands to never see him again. I couldn't be happier. I'd recommend my fellow trans women stay away. read more

Dr. Da Lio is the BEST out there! He performed my breast reconstruction after a double mastectomy (I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 38), using DIEP flap method. He spent a lot of time discussing my options with me and the pros and cons of each, going over and over often the same information until I felt comfortable making a choice. It was a very scary time and my head was swirling with doctors info, yet he made me feel at ease and helped me understand everything so much better. His knowledge, care, talent are unbelievable! He is a true artist and now my breasts look better than they did before cancer! He was even amazing enough to stay late one evening and stitch up my young son who had an accident. This rating is a JOKE. Dr. Da Lio is one of the best doctors i've ever encountered, and after everything i've been through, that is saying a lot. i cannot say enough good things about Dr Da Lio. He and his office are seeing me through what had heretofore been a wrenching process ( preventative double mastectomy and reconstruction) with grace and incredible skill. After meeting with 4 other surgical teams, i knew from my first consult that Dr Da Lio was different. First of all, he's punctual, which is unheard of. He takes all the time you need to explain all the options, to hear your worries and fears, to show you via photos and diagrams and even a sketch on paper exactly what's going to happen. He gives you an extraordinary amount of focused attention and never talks down to you as the patient. But most of all, he told me he was going to give me a great result, that i'd not only not be disfigured, but that i'd look better post-reconstruction. And So far, so good. I find his surgical skills to be excellent, matched by his level of compassion. He did everything possible to ease this process- answered my questions, managed my expectations. saved my skin and nipple, and rebuilt me, literally and figuratively. Dr. Andrew Da Lio is everything you would want in a doctor, surgeon, and all-around a great man. His office is a nice place, nurses and staff are very helpful and friendly! They make you feel comfortable the minute you walk in. I had three breast augmentation surgeries in the past. After the first surgery, my implants (300cc) appeared to be placed very high, and the breasts looked not natural. I was unhappy for three years. My second surgery I did in Europe by replacing 350cc with a teardrop shape. The breasts look natural, but they felt firm, not soft, not flexible, and too big for my body. I am 5.6', 120lb and sport style. I decided to fix it again. I saw a couple of surgeons, but then I got a referral to see Dr. Da Lio. From the day of my first consultation, day of surgery, and aftercare, my experience with him and his team are 10/10. He made me feel as ease and confident that this time I was in good hands. He is the "Michelangelo" of plastic surgeons. I mean perfection as a surgeon. He cares deeply about providing the highest quality of work. Don't be sidetracked by the "1" reviews about his personality etc. He will only tell you what is safe with the best results. I had a breast reduction and liposuction done with him. My breast was larger than F size with uneven breast after childbirth. I was expecting perhaps some reduction and for it to look somewhat even, since they were soooo out of whack. But oh my goodness, the results are stunning, he got me to a size C+ and it is absolutely even and lifted. My liposuction was done really well in front and sides. He will have you back free of charge for a revision if you feel any portion of the liposuction is not to satisfaction which is not uncommon. No doubt. He is also very meticulous about recovery. The nurses told me or you are in the best hands with Dr. Da Lio. He demands the best for his patients. Don't worry about if he talks less etc. He is very focused. He will tell you matter of fact. I needed a plastic surgeon to repair my breast reconstruction. The radiation made my skin too thin so I had to get a back flap surgery to replace the skin that was about to tear. Dr. Da Lio is very kind and caring. He took time to explain the process to me and answered all my questions. I was dreading the procedure because it sounded horrible -- taking a piece of skin from my back to cover the thin skin on my breast, remove the old implant and replace it. Dr. Da Lio did excellent work. I had very little pain and my breasts look so much better. I am very happy with the results. And yes, he is very handsome! read more

I went to Dr Da Lio for my flap surgery and reconstruction after a 16.4cm tumor in my right breast. Yes, that's huge!!! With almost 22 lymph nodes removed and extensive radiation damage I was not an easy case. Dr Da Lio has the BEST reputation for being detail oriented and a stickler for best practices to ensure the highest results. The nurses in the hospital post op said that as a patient of Dr DA Lio I had much more stringent rules for after care and things that were non negotiable because Dr Da Lio just doesn't take risks when it comes to infection healing etc. I'm HAPPY to have a DR care enough to set rules that ensure I don't have complications. His demeanor has always been helpful respectful and honest. I would give him more than 5 stars if I could!! He is a truly brilliant, innovative, kind and caring professional who takes great pride in his work, as he should. I met several doctors, but from the moment I met him his gentle nature and careful and meticulous explanation of my options put me immediately at ease, I could tell I was in the hands of a real pro and knew he was the right choice for me and he never let me down. I was a difficult case because I had had radiation and a lumpectomy on one side, so when I came out of the reconstruction surgery I was lopsided, the radiated breast was smaller and higher. After radiation the skin is forever changed. I had resigned myself to being grateful I was cancer free and that lopsided breast's were a minor sacrifice to achieve that end, but Dr Da Lio did not give up. Through the innovative use of fat grafting and making sure he inserted different sized implants he somehow miraculously managed to make them look pretty perfect. He was patient and persistent and after each fat grafting session he was encouraged, I couldn't see what he was so excited about, so when the implants were put in I was shocked and ecstatic to show him the results. He was genuinely thrilled and I think surprised at how flawless the work was. I was so touched by his joy and excitement that in his words "I didn't look like I had ever had breast cancer" They look and feel incredibly natural. I have been incredibly blessed to survive breast cancer. After dealing for many years with the uneven breasts due to a one-sided mastectomy and three failed attempts with reconstructive surgery by another plastic surgeon to correct implant contractures, I was about to give up hope that I could acheive a better outcome. I saw a second surgeon who proposed a solution and kept changing the dates and surgical plan, I began to feel discouraged and less confident that his approach would create any better outcome. I decided to do some further research and decided to get another opinion from a renowned plastic surgeon at UCLA, Dr Andrew Da Lio. His assistant, Kirsten got me an appointment within days. At my first consultation, Dr Da Lio, shared before and after photos of another patient with the same issues. He asked if I wanted to think about it and I immediately responded that I was ready to move forward and have him do the surgery. His assistant worked a miracle and got me on the surgery schedule within three weeks so that I did not have to redo all my preop work again. The latissimus flap surgery was much less painful than expected as I never needed. narcotics. The results have been amazing. I have for the first time since my mastectomy been able to wear clothes and have a natural and symmetrical profile. Dr Da Lio is an artist as well as a talented surgeon. I called this Doctor's office for medically authorized, necessary and approved Breast Augmentation through my Insurance(for a condition which I cannot state publicly). He seemed very unwilling and not wanting to do my procedure and although he said he would, he could only give me 220cc implants due to low amount of breast tissue and bwd. This was shocking to me since I already had multiple consultations where the PS recommended 425cc implants and many other women my BWD and even smaller had gotten implants that size and even a bit bigger. Unfortunately, those Surgeons were not under my insurance plan so I had to find one who was. Dr. Da Lio was the only one I had seen who met the criteria. Needless to say, I declined his offer and continued my search. I found a PS up in San Mateo, CA who did a magnificent job for me. Gave me 425cc Textured, Anatomical shaped implants and I had no problem whatsoever through the surgery and recovery. Dr. Da Lio caused me a great deal of emotional pain and depression.
