All things considered this is a decent family restaurant. I just wish the serving staff appeared in attire befitting a real cafe. The young man serving there this past summer wore a t shirt, cargo shorts and worn out shoes as if he just got off his skate board. Looking at his hairy legs was not appealing The waitress staff though competent, often wear soiled shirts. Some semblance of staff uniforms would give this place a better impression to its patrons. Simply going to Walmart one will find Dickie pants and white shirts for little money. Would a tie and waiters apron be asking too much? This place is about average in a good way--A-OK as Yelp calls it. That does not mean it's bad or we won't eat here. Many meals we eat are average, so we come here on occasion. Average in a good way to reiterate! Not average as in school lunch or institutional food. We usually have their breakfast food and it is pretty good. I would say they have the best (crispiest) hash browns in the area. My wife usually gets their breakfast combo and says it is pretty good. I usually get their country (chicken) fried steak with eggs and hash browns. I like the sausage gravy smothering everything and have to ask for that. The chicken fried steak is crispy also. Their sausage gravy is a bit on the bland side. Overall, average or slight above average. If they had a tastier sausage gravy, this would be killer (hint hint). Their toast is really good. We choose this place mostly for their breakfast food as there aren't many restaurants that serve it all day. The kids usually find something they like here. The staff is friendly and the prices are very fair. We wil continue to come here when we are in the mood for breakfast for dinner and have some variety on the menu for the group. It's a pretty good place. This place rates about 3.5 stars in our book. Note: the median age of customers here is about 80. We happened to be here early (for us) at 5pm today (late for the median age group) and noticed that it was like being there after church. read more

Family-style restaurant, breakfast all day, bottomless (drinkable) coffee, and a lovely and competent staff-- what more do you want from your local diner?! This place treats their employees well, and it shows, because they treat their customers well. They are personable, informed, and attentive, even when busy. The food is above par, on all levels, and they have a hearty breakfast selection, along with quite a good many lunch and dinner options that are great. It is one of the few places in Marquette where your steak or burger will actually be cooked how you ask (and we all know how hard it can be to get a medium rare burger). And, great fries and soup options, and a menu that is friendly to vegetarian and gluten-free folks, alike. You want pie, you say? They have that covered, too! I'm giving 2 stars based on service- the food was done well, though cold due to service staff being horrid. We asked for a cinnamon roll and the staff asked if we wanted it before our meal and warm- which was awesome and I said please- we got it with the meal and it was cold as well as undercooked. Definitely not worth the money. I typically order kids food before mine, for timing purposes. I ordered that way and all food was brought out at same time. It's been over 4 years since I've eaten at Jeffery's. Why? Because last time I ate there with family, they literally burnt everyone's eggs (omelet) etc. there was literally black on the bottom of the omelettes. The server apologized and mentioned all eggs were coming out that way all morning. Today's is Mother's Day so you ramp up in staff right? 80% full restaurant. No line at the door and no one waiting to be seated. My wife and I ordered two specials: eggs, bacon, French toast. Food came within 15min of ordering, fast. Everything on the plate, literally cold. The French toast had a stale texture to it too like it was old bread and clearly prepared ahead of time. Noting like eating cold eggs and cold greasy bacon The food would've been good if it was at least warm. Maybe not the French toast. Now I know why it's been 4 years since we've been back. Never returning again. They just don't know how to run this place and offer consistency in quality and service. Those two things will kill a restaurant. It's clear you take a risk when you eat here. This was the fourth time I've tried the Friday night fish fry. The first time was several years ago and I was impressed. Portions were generous, fish was good and the service was also acceptable. The second visit, however, was a disaster. My fish was grey and the edges crusty. The side of vegetables were obviously out of a can and reheated, and the cole slaw was soupy. The third visit went better, fish good, service good, but the same old soggy vegetables. And now they charge $1 for each extra piece of fish. No complaint because I Usually don't eat more than one serving. Last night we tried it again. The fish was o.k., my pan breading was clinging on in places, baked potato - well it is hard to ruin a baked potato. The cole slaw was better, but then there were the same old out of a can soggy vegetables. It really wouldn't take much effort to elevate the vegetables to an acceptable side. I probably won't go back for the fish fry. The kitchen staff was having a good time from what I Could hear, but it wasn't in preparing the best meal they could. There was no effort put into the product and certainly nothing I would recommend to friends. read more

Pancake was heavy and wet like a washcloth. Disgusting. No salt or seasoning on anything else. When I paid for our meal at the register, the cashier appeared to be a manager. Didn't even ask how things were. Based on the other reviews, she probably knows. I told her this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. Her reply was "well we are busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings." No apologies, no offer to make it right, nothing. The waitress was nice but I made a conscious decision to not leave a tip. Thinking that since this cost her money she will say something to management about their poorly operated business. With all of the options in Marquette it is a wonder that this place is still open after 10 years. Breakfast at Jeffrey's left us disappointed. While the wait staff was friendly and attentive, the food did not make the grade. I had an omelette with American fried potatoes and my wife had their cinnamon French toast. She stated that the French toast had no cinnamon and the syrup had no flavor. My omelette was not "fluffy", as they stated in their menu, and was burnt on the bottom. The American fries were warm but pale, and looked like they spent very little time on the grill so they were not fried. We will be looking for better the next time we're in Marquette! read more

As a matter of fact, I really enjoyed the steak and eggs I ordered. It just didn't seem like the environment was cozy. Almost touristy, I saw lots of parents eating with their kids, probably attending NMU. It felt too crowded, but the menu strongly mirrors IHOP so it would stand to reason that it would stay busy. I finally flagged her down, and she came to the table. When I asked her if she could bring it please, she said "I'm working on it," which clearly she wasn't, as she had been setting up place servings on other tables. And the restaurant was not full, or even busy. Maybe 2 or 3 other tables had customers. Also I asked to have the gravy left off my food, and of course when my food came, gravy was slopped all over everything. My daughter's oriental chicken salad and my husband's fish dinner were also excellent. I'd give it 5 stars, but this is the only time I've been there. I would suggest to avoid this place if you want to eat decent food. I ordered pancakes, they were pale, soggy, flavorless and undercooked. Maybe out of a box and steamed? The sausage links were greasy, cold and looked steamed also. My eggs were raw, had them recooked and still raw whites. Everything was covered in thick oil. The hash browns had some crispy pieces but totally flavorless. My husband never complains about anything and said never would he eat there again. Even the whole wheat toast was bad, tasted stale. Jeffrey's doesn't treat there employees with respect or others who want a job there. They fire anyone who stands up for themselves or other co workers. They let co workers harass eachother Till one snaps and fire the one who shouldn't be harassed in the first place & tries to stand up for themselves.
