I ordered a half dozen to share with my family on the ship, and they were gone in minutes. I'm someone who prefers savory over sweet, so the salmon donuts really hit the sweet spot for me (tee hee). When you're in Ketchikan, make a stop at Jellyfish Donuts. They charge a service fee for cards, so bring cash. We tried a classic glazed and a strawberry donut and both were delicious. The savory salmon donut was what brought me in, but it was not what I expected. I was expecting the donut to be light and airy since it's a brioche donut but It was too dense and doughy. The spread with smoked salmon and cream cheese mixed together could have used more smoked salmon as the cream cheese muted the smokiness of the salmon. I really liked the salmon donut. The salmon was smoky in flavor and had a good amount of season, depth and actually was pretty darn good with the thick doughy texture of the donut, although this "smoky salmon dip" would've been good on a number of other breads as well. Came for the salmon donut even if I am not a fan of salmon. And I was honestly surprised. The salmon isn't over powering the donut was a brioche type and it paired very well with the cream cheese and chives. Compared to the Juneau location, this place is tiny! Barely enough room for maybe 10 people standing inside, this donut shop packs some mean desserts. The donuts seem to be pumped out of the fryer every so often, then slathered with icing or spread, topped with cookies and sprinkles, etc, all to order. I think they continuously fry more donuts since both of ours were served warm. It takes a bit of time to assemble - in our case, around 10 minutes. Smoked Salmon Donut ($12) - Starting with the base donut - this is a stellar brioche donut. It's not sweet at all (minimal sugar added) and instead has a rich pillowy taste, with fluffy, yet dense, and very chewy brioche texture. It's quite heavy in weight, due partly to the underlying donut, partly due to the topping - a rich smoked salmon spread with scallion sprinkled on top. They are very generous with the spread, with probably a half inch layer at the thickest, covering the entire top surface of the donut. The spread is cream cheese based, thick, salty, and full of salmon flavor. There are also small pieces of smoked salmon interspersed throughout the spread. Delicious. It's probably best to not think of this as a donut, and instead as a donut-shaped, brioche-based frybread, without the flavor of the frybread oil. (5/5) Cookies & Milk Donut ($6) - This donut combines the same stellar base, but dips it into icing and adds a sprinkling of chocolate chip cookies on top. The cookies are pretty standard - pretty sure these are packaged cookies and not baked house. They are sweet with melty chocolate due to the warm donut. The icing is sweet and pleasant to eat, balanced out with the unsweetened base donut. Note: These donuts are not like traditional yeast or cake donuts in texture. I see some reviews complaining that these donuts aren't "melt in your mouth" - it's because these are totally different in preparation. They are definitely more dense, less airy, and much more chewy than a typical yeast donut. I believe they also make their own donut base, hence the premium prices (in addition to being in a small isolated town, of course). The donuts that Jellyfish serves are absolutely stellar. I had no idea what to expect from the smoked salmon donut, but I now can say it's surprisingly one of the best donuts I've eaten in recent memory. read more

Ugh. I feel so sad writing this review because I was so looking forward to jellyfish donuts after all the hype online. Unfortunately, that was just hype and it was not great. The customer service i got was actually pretty great and helpful. The decor was super cute. The donuts look amazing. The reason I can't give a 4 or 5 boils down to 2 things: #1, i really did not enjoy the donut. It wasn't a good taste or texture imo. #2, the donut was SUPER expensive. I knew it probably would be more than average, but Holy cow i have had donuts and baked goods in Beverly Hills and LA that are cheaper than these! This place is worth the hype! My best friend mentioned jellyfish donuts as a must-visit and me being the donut fiend I had to follow along. They're quite clever with ordering; you can either walk right up, or write on a personal dry-erase board your order then take it up to the line (this works well especially with groups). It seems like the donuts are freshly made base wise, then whatever toppings that go with your choice are immediately put on. For example: My sour patch kids donut was a plain donut then whisked through their piping hot specific glazes, and then joined with the sour patch kids candy. The same with the fluffer nutter. I haven't had a hot glazed donut like this since Krispy Kreme (so it hits in a nostalgic feels way). The gal at the register said some prefer to wait for the glaze to dry and harden. We stopped in Ketchikan during our Alaska cruise, and our bus driver for one of the excursions recommended this place. Unfortunately, we got here at an extremely busy time. We waited about 30 minutes to get to the front of the line. The donuts were superb, but severely overpriced. It's a tourist stop though, so I guess it's to be expected. The flavor menu is poorly posted in the front of a crowd (not a problem with no line), but the business really should consider a different ordering system to prevent the line from backing up so bad. Maybe a QR code menu on the window or a menu posted higher up so people don't need to wait until the front of the line to make their decisions on what to get. My family and I tried the chocolate sea salt which tasted like just a really good chocolate donut, the original glazed, and the salmon donut. The salmon spread is really delicious and thankfully they load on the topping. However, I don't think it's worth $10. read more

Like the other 50 people in line behind me, I got off my cruise ship and waited in line for a world-famous jellyfish donut. I had seen about 10 Tik tok videos mentioning this place so it was 100% on my list when visiting Ketchikan. The line was long, but it moved quick and it was all worth it. Upon entering if the line is long enough you'll get a little board with a marker and you can write down all of your choices so it makes it easier for the staff. I know it's not easy to pick but once you choose, writing it all down makes it a lot simpler. I decided on the PB&J doughnut, the animal cracker, the blueberry cheesecake, and another peanut butter donut. My absolute favorite was the blueberry cheesecake, I barely let my boyfriend take a bite. All of the donuts were warm, but this one had just a special place in my heart. The dough is rich, but not overwhelming. The toppings were plenty but not over done. It's truly the perfect donut. I like a dancer donut and this was exactly that without being too much. I also got a slushy, you could call it that. It was I believe, peaches, mango, and strawberries? Whatever the fruit combination was - it was perfect. Somehow we got 80° weather in Ketchikan and this slushy was my saving grace it was so refreshing and so delicious, I believe it was blended with lemonade and that was just a hit in my book.
