If you like salmon, this is a good store to stop by. They have an extensive selection of salmon goods except for fresh salmon. They also offer other canned goods such as octopus, scallop and crab. Unfortunately, after much prebuilt excitement to visit that little shop, we left disappointed. Lured in by the owner to sample various salmon products and loving the taste of them, we were made to believe those products were exclusively made for this specific shop. So we stocked up on items worth over $200 total, including some gifts for our friends. Then, on the way out we saw another shop just around the corner and decided to see if we could get a few more things. Well... that other shop had mostly the same items but at much lower prices. In the most extreme case, we're talking the same exact item (brand, size, and packaging) costing $5.95 when we just bought several of those at the Salmon Market for $16.95 each! I could understand a $1-2 price difference between different stores, but this was ***3x the price***... We went back to see if we could return them so we could buy them at the other store, and Salmon Market ended up price matching which means this item was never worth anywhere near that price and they absolutely knew that. This left a sour taste in our mouths and I suggest you shop around 2-3 other stores before buying anything there. read more

Salmon market was by far my favorite place as my family and I did our own unofficial walking tour through town. There are a lot of great things to see in other places, but this is the best place for a cup of coffee and by far the best place that we encountered to buy local smoked salmon and other Alaska delicacies to cram into our suit cases and take back home with us. We got two types of salmon, some pickled seaweed salad, and I don't even remember what else, with the initial intention of sharing these as souvenirs with people we love. Now that I'm home and thinking about my decision to get these things away, I just might keep everything for myself because the salmon that we tasted while we were there was spectacular and I think I love it more than people! I'm definitely a fan and I don't know if I will ever be in that part of the world again but if I am, l'll stock up on their smoked salmon's and other treats. Oh! By the way! Wow! Just wow!! I want to move to Alaska just so I can come to this market on a daily basis!!! I wish I could give this store a million stars! It deserves it and exceeds all expectations! Every time we go to Alaska in the summer with the family, we have to stop by this store. It's our family tradition. The CUSTOMER SERVICE is top notch! All the staff members are so accommodating with their recommendations and trying to help you navigate through items in the store. The owner by far is one of the nicest human beings I have ever met! He is so personable and honest! He is such a pleasure to be around! While we were visiting him a few years ago, we noticed other couples taking pictures with him and buying boxes of items to take back home. I immediately thought,"who would go to Alaska every year" and now I know why! It's like a mini reunion when you go to his store with past customers coming back. This store carries the best products in Alaska, so unbelievably fresh and tasty! I tried the fresh smoked salmon from the refrigerator and bought two packets. We were on a cruise to Alaska and one of the stops was in Ketchikan, Alaska. While walking through the quaint little town, we bought two cans of smoked King salmon from the Salmon Market. Buying only two cans was a big mistake! When we got home after our trip and tried it, it was so delicious that those two cans were gone in just a few days. I could not believe how good it was. It was meaty, slightly smoky, and had an incredible flavor and texture. After that, I couldn't stop thinking about how good it was and I wanted more. We tried some other canned salmon from the big box store and also from the fancy health food store, but it wasn't even remotely the same. It was watery, kind of mealy and had that fishy taste that I cannot get past. So, I gave little pieces to our kitties as treats. It essentially became cat food. Not being able to stop thinking about the how good the King salmon was and not being able to find it anywhere, I finally got online, signed up with Salmon Market and ordered six cans of the smoked King salmon. In less than a week, the cans arrived. They were packaged very neatly with bubble wrap and a custom box that prevented the cans from being tossed around. With great anticipation, I opened the can and inside were huge chunks of meaty, smoky deliciousness. I whipped up some scrambled eggs, added some freshly chopped chives, creme fraiche and the smoked salmon. We had an epic breakfast. This is hands down the very best canned fish I've ever had. This was one of the best shops we visited in Alaska that was selling smoked salmon and other Alaskan goods. Plenty of samples were handed out so we were able to try so many different items. We stopped by the cafe next door to try some of the salmon items. If there are any items you want to eat immediately, they help you open any cans or packages and set you up for snacking. They have amazing sockeye and coho salmon, the store is small and crowded but definitely it worths to wait . Interesting little salmon market. There are two different salmon markets that I found in this area. Very friendly workers. He explained all the different salmons and then asked us if we wanted a sample. Of course, he made crackers with cream cheese and pink salmon and garlic pink salmon. Really good. He was going to give us a deal for four cans, but I did notice that the more cans you buy the cheaper it gets. We only bought two cans for $8.95 a piece. Smoked salmon goodness in a can. I love it. Either racist or horrible service, no returning customer anyway. The fat bald sales guy was helping a customer and I was standing next to the customer. After he answered her question I asked if they had any salmon jerky. He ignored my question and the customer helped me by pointed out the location. I then asked for a jerky sample, he gave me 2 pieces telling me to share with my family, then put the plate away. We had 4 people so I told my wife to grab another one, he had his head down and ignores us completely. I then told my wife "let's go, I don't like him" suddenly he looked up and said what did you say? With a confronting voice. I told him I don't like you, you ignored me many times avoiding helping me. He stated he did not see, I told him he must be blind if I'm standing right in front of him with a big blue jacket. He then yelled F* off to me in front of the entire store and my family. I told him to F* him self and can't believe a business guy would tell his customer to F* off instead of apologizing when he mess up the service. Salmon Market in Ketchikan is a fantastic spot for learning about Salmon, tasting their beautifully smoked salmon with some of their incredible kelp pickles (seriously, you'll want a few jars for future snacking) and for getting spectacular customer service. We ended up buying several varieties of the salmon, pickles, salsa and jerky. We had it shipped home and it arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
