This is a great campground to make lasting memories. We have been coming during Halloween week for the past few years. We have made many new friends and are bringing new family members each year. We can't wait to see what memories are made next time.

Bed bug found on cabin bed

(BED BUGS!) Just a warning as I want to prevent anyone possible from going through what we are currently going through-- Our family intended to have our first stay at the Lakes Region Milton, NH location last weekend to celebrate our child's birthday. We arrived and checked into our cabin without issue Friday evening. I tucked my child into one of the beds in the cabin with rented linens provided by the location and started decorating the cabin with some birthday supplies. Just before 1am, I went to check on my child and saw an adult bed bug, freshly fed, scurrying across their blankets. Horrified-- I pulled back the blankets and quickly found two more bed bugs. We found another bed bug crawling near our belongings in the main living/dining room area. We called the emergency number having no idea what else to do with it now being nearly 2am. We then had, who I assume is a manager, show up and say he couldn't confirm that the bed bugs we had captured and saved in a ziploc bag were bed bugs and said they'd never had an issue with bed bugs at the location before. He said he saw "no evidence" of bed bugs and he could look for another cabin for us or we could leave. But that he wouldn't guarantee any reimbursement or refund. We were so shaken and worried to run into the same issue at another cabin or with other provided linens-- we just decided to head home (hours away) with our crying and bed bug bitten child in the middle of the night. We packed everything into plastic trash bags attempting to prevent bringing any bed bugs home with us. We ended up having to throw away a ton of things including a fridge full of food we had packed for the weekend, pajamas & slippers, birthday presents and decor supplies-- etc. As well as a custom birthday cake that didn't survive the journey home. We're still waiting for a call back after the "local pest company" allegedly inspects the cabin. It is absolutely unbelievable to me that we weren't immediately offered a refund of our stay at minimum considering we weren't able stay a single night due to the state of the cabin, we had to trash so many personal & meaningful items, and we're still paying $$$ to clean everything we had to bring home with us to prevent spreading. Not to mention the continuing emotional and mental impact of all of this on our entire family. I truly cannot give a strong enough warning to stay away from the cabins at this location and this location in general. We are so exhausted and could not have even imagined a worse experience. This has been, and continues to be, horrific and nothing at all has been communicated to us to remedy the situation now nearly four days out. Save yourself the trauma and pick another place to stay. We wish we had. Attaching images of the first bed bug found on the bed, which I ended up squishing in a panic. Then images of two more found on the bed and in the living area trapped with paper cups and placed in a ziploc bag. **Just saw a Google review left several hours ago about another bed bug infested cabin reported to management over a week ago. The manager claimed to us that they had NEVER had an issue with bed bugs when speaking with them last weekend. I am absolutely appalled by the dishonesty and the refusal to refund & reimburse us now knowing that this was not the first incident and they were fully aware of an ongoing situation.**

    Our beautiful site

LOVED this campground!! We were a little nervous when we pulled in during a Halloween weekend BUT we had an amazing time. Lots of family things going on for those with kids but you could truly just enjoy your campsite too! The setting is beautiful on the lake and lots of hiking near by. When the weekend was over we practically had the place to ourselves during the week! We already have reservations for this October!

    Beautiful water access

So much fun! Beautiful location. lots of fun activities for kids such as swimming, bouncy pillow, and mini golf.

The meadow cottage cabins had plenty of room for my family of 4. Plenty of activities for the kids and teens. Front Desk was very helpful. The pond was perfect for swimming. The ice cream was awesome. I love the meadow cottages because the porches are screened in. Had a great time. Hope to go back next year!

And NO....it is not clean as a whistle. Since 2014 they have four reviews. This speaks volumes. The place has NOTHING going for it. Wide open, hot as hell in the Summer with no shade and bees everywhere. If you leave anything out during the week, expect it gone when you return. Imagine being among people who steal from you. Report it to the office and they do NOTHING and say they haven't heard of any other reports. Report to the police and they tell you they have been out there MANY TIMES with people reporting things stolen. No activities at all. NOTHING. They have some lazy really fat guy named Fred Weber going around in a golf cart complaining about the children riding their bikes too fast. What the heck is too fast? If you have any plans on even thinking of this dump, call the police first and ask them the history with reports of items stolen first. Pay more money, go somewhere else, and have an enjoyable vacation. Could I give ZERO stars?

Unfortunately. We were on the wrong side of the tracks for this stay. Hardly worth the $60 during the end of season. The site was dirty with trash and a fire pit that wasn't cleaned. Our picnic table had muddy dog prints all over it and the water connection was less than 6 inches off the ground and just above the sewer connection, which made attaching sewer connections impossible. They have posted 9 pm quiet hours, yet our 9 pm late arriving seasonal neighbors were loudly partying and drinking until well after 1 AM. Quiet hours simply are not enforced. Fortunately, we only had one night remaining, cut this trip short, just not worth the money we are spendjng.

We will be seeking compensation for those damages. They broke dishes, caused the pantry door to fly open and all our groceries to fall out ruined.). This place is not well-maintained at all. The sites are practically on top of each other. There is no room to set up anything. Anything you need to do here is an additional charge. The bathrooms are sweltering and full of bugs (Who builds a campsite next to a swamp?!). There never seems to be anyone in the office during the business hours they claim, and those are only 1-7:00PM. It's brilliant on their part. Checkout is two hours before the office opens, so you won't be able to complain or get anything handled before you leave. Forget getting firewood, but that's OK, 'cause there is no room for a campfire anyway. You're not allowed to actually use the trashcans or dumpster for normal travel waste, by the way. Signs say no food or beverages, food containers, etc. This place is unbelievably cramped and crowded with not nearly enough facilities for this many people. The seasonal people are unbelievably rude to the short term stay folks (no idea why). And there truly odd people wandering around in the middle of the night. No kids is a plus for noise, but I'd rather have kids disrupting the quiet than relentless, massive, swamp bugs. Also, they allow dogs.. bark all night, yap all day, untrained, loud, sometimes leashed dogs. Avoid. You are better off at a truck stop, rest area or parking lot. We will be requiring a refund as well as compensation for the damages to our motorhome and belongings. But since the operators make sure to not be available, we'll have to seek our reimbursement/refund when we get home.

So I packed up my dogs and we headed out on the road to finish the East Coast for me - Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. When I arrived at Chocorua Campground, Stephen helped me. I was after arrival time, and called the number. He came in his golf cart and led me to a parking lot. I had told him I get a little worried about driving on narrow parts, and he was so considerate. He asked me if it was okay if we went on the bridge to get to "the island." The cabins on the island are right on the water, and have no electricity, phone signal or wifi. I didn't know that when I signed up on the KOA website. I just saw they were on the water and clicked, "sign me up!" He mentioned that I could stay in a different cabin, probably, and it has electricity, its own bathroom and kitchen, wifi and phone signal. This would enable us not to go over that bridge to The Island. I jumped at the chance. It was a financial upgrade. We got me to my cabin and it was so nice! I had TV signal too! This is definitely glamping. There was a patio area with a table and chairs, a porch with chairs and tables for me to sit on. Sliding glass doors into my cabin. A living room with a TV and a kitchen table, a full kitchen (no dishwasher though), a room with bunk beds, a room with a queen sized bed, and a full bathroom. The beds had bedding on them, so I didn't have to use my sleeping bag. I was grateful to have pillows provided for me. I should have brought my pillow on my trip, but I forgot. One of our days there, we went to the dog park. it's a nice, big dog park! My dogs enjoyed the walk around the campground and they enjoyed the visit to the dog park. Lots of good things to sniff and experience! Another of our days there, we walked to the dog beach. My dogs weren't having it. They didn't want to go in the water. But they loved walking the trail by the dog beach. We had another good time with that walk too. We enjoyed our visit. It was relaxing. The staff was great. We had ants in our cabin and I told the gal at the store, and they will take care of the ants in the cabin.
