When Terry H and I were planning our wedding, I told him I wasn't planning on hiring a photographer. I said everyone has their smartphone and they could take pictures of what ever they wanted. Haha! He convinced me to get someone for our ceremony at least. What a romantic! Of course I turned to Yelp and did some research. I emailed a couple of people, and told them what I was looking for. Jen emailed me back and right away I felt a connection. I called her up so we could chat for a few minutes and made my decision in those few minutes. We hired her for our wedding ceremony at Kahala Beach, and then for the reception at the Waikiki Aquarium. She is totally awesome. I love our pictures and the way that she gets great action shots without being conspicuous with her camera. When she did have posed photos, they were captured beautifully. She really knows how to work the lighting and environment. The photos were available for us to download super fast and the cost was very reasonable. I found Jen through Yelp to take engagement photos while vacationing in Hawaii last month. She made the process seamless and was always prompt and professional with our exchange of emails before the day of the photo session. She has great suggestions on locations and we decided on Ko'olina Lagoons in Kapolei. It was a great intimate location away from busy downtown area perfect to catch the sunset. I have to say in all honesty, that Jen May is one of the most professional individuals I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. She is extremely talented and it was a complete pleasure to have her take photos of my boyfriend and myself. As opposed to many other photographers that will just tell you what they want to do with you or what they "envision" for you, Jen May really talks to you to get a sense of your likes, your dislikes, what type of backdrop or image YOU envision and not doesn't go off a standard template. We ended up doing a photo shoot in downtown Los Angeles...me in my equestrian gear and my boyfriend in his "riding" (i.e. motorcycle) gear in order to show a great contrast. We had a great time looking around and finding some amazing places to shoot...Jen May's eye is amazing and made me look at downtown LA in a way that I never had before. I also am super picky about photos that are taken of me (I usually like about 1 photo in every 100 that are taken of me). She knew that I was picky (or rather, self-conscious), and made me feel at ease with all the shots she took (nothing super pose-y), and I loved all the photos! It's nice being able to work with a consummate professional who knows exactly what they're doing and doesn't try to force their vision down your throat and let's you flex your own creative wings sort of speak. Jen May was the photographer for my wedding this summer, and I would highly recommend her. My wedding pictures were very important to me--I didn't want to just have a bunch of snapshots, but photographs that would capture the details and emotions of our wedding. I was very satisfied with Jen May's work. She is also very fun and does a great job of making you feel comfortable in front of the camera. I was a bit worried because I don't think I'm naturally very photogenic--but you'd never know looking at her pictures! Jen May did a great job of taking very flattering and lovely photos of my husband and I as well as our whole wedding party. As part of the process she will talk with you about your wedding, finding out your story and what is most important to you. I found her to be very creative and understanding of what we wanted our wedding to be like--which I think helped her to capture it on film. She has a variety of different packages and includes engagement photos as well--and is also flexible to work with your personal needs or special requests. She is thorough and made sure to photograph the important details of the wedding, as well as important people and family. She was available throughout the entire day (actually starting with the rehearsal dinner the day before and continuing on to wedding preparations, ceremony, reception, and saying goodbyes afterwards) to get every special moment and whenever we needed a special "group shot" or photo with a particular person. She arrived early to "scout" out the area and find the best settings for photos. We had our wedding and reception at my church which I didn't think was the best backdrop or setting for pictures, but she saw things with a different eye and found some lovely and unique spots for pictures. She also worked with our timing and schedule, and was very efficient--which was good since it was a hot day and we didn't want to be outside too long! She edited the photos in a timely manner, and even sent us the disc all the way to the UK, where I moved soon after the wedding.
