I'd like to rate Jenkins a -5. Horrid would be an understatement. Prior to committing, they were eager to tarp my roof, IN DECEMBER, which quite frankly wasn't well done. The room is drenched with every downpour. After FIVE visits, one to tarp, FOUR to inspect, with time away from work/my students (I'm an elementary school teacher), ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has happened. My roof was damaged in August. Despite the consistency of quarterly professional pest control service, insects, spiders and mice (along with leaves and debris) are invading the interior of my home. They partner with my insurance for water mitigation. They called and set up my appointment quickly. The water mitigation person Zach was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was respectful and handled my property with care. He even gave me some advice about other issues I might have in the future while setting up his equipment. After a few days of drying my damaged area he picked up his equipment on time and cleaned up the area. read more

This review is intended for Jenkins Restoration based in Ashland Va. Just finished ripping up @1000sqft of 3/4" hardwood flooring that was installed for a Jenkins restoration customer. Apparently this house had a water line break that damaged the the old flooring while the home was vacant and up for sale, Jenkins was responsible for the repairs. The repairs were made and the home was sold to the current owner. Owner states within a couple months he noticed major issues with the floors buckling and lifting an inch or more in places, so much so that it was pushing the walls and even lifting the 1/4 round trim and causing it to break. The owners contacted Jenkins who sent a rep to look at the floors, ...they told them they probably have some moisture issues and there is nothing they could do ( this was from the company that was paid to fix the moisture issues). They contacted the rep almost 4 yrs ago. This is a young couple with young children just making it week to week on a very modest single income. They continued to live with the loose buckled floors because of lack of funds to fix the issue. They are now in the process of moving and need to have them fixed in order to sell the house. I was asked to help because of my experience in making and installing hardwood floors. The issues I found had nothing to do with moisture or the quality of flooring (the flooring was high quality prefinished 4"x3/4" solid oak). There were no moisture issues found in any of the three rooms or hallway were the flooring was installed. All issues were the result of improper installation. The worse mistake they made was not leaving at least a 1/2" or preferably more gap around the outer perimeter of the flooring for expansion. They left no gap and even went out of their way to jam pieces in to eliminate gaps. They did this "jamming" because they did not remove the base trim prior to installation, they ran the flooring up tight against it so all they had to do was put small, inexpensive quarter round around the base to hide the edges and be done. Lastly, for the amount of buckling this floor had done, I expect they took some very dry (under 7% or less) flooring and did not let it acclimate to ambient conditions before installation. There were other issues such as some flooring boards not even being nailed down and questionable underlayment, but the main issue was not having any expansion gaps at all in the rooms or hallways. If they had just done this, the flooring would probably have been "ok and survived" in spite of the other shortcuts and mistakes. The rep from Jenkins ( they don't remember his name) should have been able to see the faulty install issues pretty easy and made things right for this young couple. Now it is costing them thousands of dollars again to fix the floors that should have been done right at first and lasted a lifetime. When you buy a house or have some work done, if you are not experienced and know what to look for, please find or hire someone who does. There are still some good reputable people and companies out there who do good work and stand behind it. Unfortunately there are also many bad ones. I think Jenkins intended to do a good job based on the quality of the flooring they purchased for the install, they just did not have the right people doing the work and inspecting the work for them, and they did not stand behind their work. Use Jenkins Restoration Richmond, VA with extreme caution and plenty of time in your schedule for delays and lack of communication. It took 9 months to complete the repair work. It was a small hole in the roof and damage to the gutter and siding from a tree falling. We had with 3 project managers and the work was not done correctly but in order to fix it we were going to have to wait a number of months again. The roof was patched about a month after the damage at our urging because water started leaking through a window frame after rain and snowfall (yes, they left the hole open for a month). Then another month and the roof was done (While we were thankful they finally fixed the roof we are still finding roofing trash around the yard and nails in the driveway.) but no gutter and no siding work. The contractors for the siding (Coastal Contracting) could not manage to match the siding and get the work done without us calling and complaining multiple times and Jenkins would not follow up with them. The gutter was not done until the end after a very rainy summer and this being the main entry to our home. We again had to make multiple calls and complaints to get the gutter installed. On top of the length of time this project took we repeatedly made the request to know when workers would show up at our house. This was not honored therefore there were times I had to send workers away because they showed up at inappropriate times. read more

They did not do the work that was discussed. No one would ever contact me to let me know when they would be there. The roofers showed up at 9 AM on Sunday morning. Left nails in the yard and driveway. Poor communication. read more

RUN FAR AWAY if you are looking for this business to do hardwood floor restoration --- after multiple re-dos, attempts to collect more money and 15 days out of our home -- the floor is just acceptable........... nothing to want to show off. Their drywall/paint guys were good but the flooring job was a NIGHTMARE! Had to fight for everything just to get to "acceptable" from Feb 1 to July 4th!!! read more

After a tree fell through my asthmatic son's ceiling this summer, they refused to pay for air quality testing. They "mistakenly" left the hole open to the attic for 2 months with the AC running and simply painted over wet spots instead of replacing the ceiling. They do not care that my son cannot breathe in his own house anymore. Do not use them. read more
