Decided to pop off the toll road to eat... fab find here. Ton of options... Hubby opted for a Swiss mushroom burger. I went for the pot roast eggs benedict which was super tasty. Coffee was great ... Made sure you checkout the specials board near the front or ask as the wait staff doesn't seem to offer When we arrived sign said seat yourself... while there were a variety of booths versus tables it appeared they had been slammed so were behind on busing tables... that seemed to get fixed as things went. While it didn't affect us thru also ran out of bacon at the table next to us. But luckily they were okay with sausage... wait staff was running about attempting to keep everyone happy. Just seemed like they might be a touch understaff today (Memorial Day). Everyone super nice and working hard and to be honest food is worth the wait Glad we got off of this short detour! Worthy stop

Smother some toast with homemade deliciousness!

In case you are wondering, it is possible to spread a bit of heaven on a piece of toast. Come in for hearty, homemade breakfast and no matter what time you go in, leave room for pie! Expand your taste buds with one of their homemade jam/jelly flavor combos (and bring home your favorite). Highly recommend the biscuits and gravy or the Chef's Mess(Jennie Rae's version of a skillet with bacon, ham and sausage served over hash browns and smothered with gravy). Or just have a piece of pie. Or only multiple slices of pie. There is a bevy of mystery gum ball machines in the entrance, so if you are traveling with littles, bring quarters!

Sadly, I had already eaten the lunch I packed when I came across a restaurant that was inscribed with my name! I was so excited that I pulled over and got some photos - and saw that the restaurant was packed! According to the website, this other Jennie Rae shares my love of making homemade preserves and cooking - and it's a local, family business! Go give some love to Jennie Rae!

You know, as much as I have been to Oink's in my lifetime, I cannot believe that I forgot to leave…read morea review for them YEARS ago! First let me start by saying that Oink's and I go way back. I believe that the first time I went there was in 1988 when I was 16 (my two older cousins were raised in Union Pier), and since I visit SW MI at least twice a year, I never leave without going to Oink's before coming home. As I always took my kids to Warren Dunes instead of Chicago beaches, my kids always got to enjoy Oink's before coming back home also! So this year was no different and my wife and I got to sit down and enjoy ice cream before coming back home. I have always loved the different ice cream flavors (especially strawberry cheesecake), and as I always do, I bought a few pig keychains and other things from the gift shop. I also have always loved the old-school vibe! So every time I am up that way, I'll be there!! One last thing: I got to meet Coach Vink back in the day because my older two cousins (The McSmith brothers, who both passed away unexpectedly in 2024 and 2025), played for him at New Buffalo High School. Coach was a good dude, and I was sorry to hear of his passing. So, see you next time I'm up there!

Another ice cream review from another favorite!…read more Oink's has been around for ages and is always a great place to stop in if you're in New Buffalo! There's a parking lot and other fun places in walking distance as well to check out. The decor in Oink's will never leave you bored. There is so much to look at! They have a number system so once you enter, be sure to grab a ticket with a number on it and it'll flash on the screen. There were a few groups who came in who were unaware of that and so the lines and ordering process was a tad chaotic. Eventually one of the staff mentioned something about grabbing a ticket and it was easily sorted. Everyone working was very friendly and patient which is a huge plus. I tried out one of their cherry and chocolate ice cream flavors. So tasty! I also love knowing you can get a half scoop as well although it was still so much ice cream. The perfect place for a sweet treat!
