You know, as much as I have been to Oink's in my lifetime, I cannot believe that I forgot to leave a review for them YEARS ago! First let me start by saying that Oink's and I go way back. I believe that the first time I went there was in 1988 when I was 16 (my two older cousins were raised in Union Pier), and since I visit SW MI at least twice a year, I never leave without going to Oink's before coming home. As I always took my kids to Warren Dunes instead of Chicago beaches, my kids always got to enjoy Oink's before coming back home also! So this year was no different and my wife and I got to sit down and enjoy ice cream before coming back home. I have always loved the different ice cream flavors (especially strawberry cheesecake), and as I always do, I bought a few pig keychains and other things from the gift shop. I also have always loved the old-school vibe! So every time I am up that way, I'll be there!! One last thing: I got to meet Coach Vink back in the day because my older two cousins (The McSmith brothers, who both passed away unexpectedly in 2024 and 2025), played for him at New Buffalo High School. Another ice cream review from another favorite! Oink's has been around for ages and is always a great place to stop in if you're in New Buffalo! There's a parking lot and other fun places in walking distance as well to check out. The decor in Oink's will never leave you bored. There is so much to look at! They have a number system so once you enter, be sure to grab a ticket with a number on it and it'll flash on the screen. There were a few groups who came in who were unaware of that and so the lines and ordering process was a tad chaotic. Eventually one of the staff mentioned something about grabbing a ticket and it was easily sorted. Everyone working was very friendly and patient which is a huge plus. I tried out one of their cherry and chocolate ice cream flavors. So tasty! I also love knowing you can get a half scoop as well although it was still so much ice cream. Solid ice cream shop and fun for our kiddo! They have a lot of flavors and do samples. We really liked the Michigan pothole (we love chocolate) and our kid wanted orange sherbet. The shop isn't by anything else, but it's cute inside and there's a small chocolate and toy store next door. Super friendly staff. There's ample parking and there are a few spots outside to take photos... so it's a good destination all on its own. read more

What an experience! The interior is absolutely packed with vintage decor and pig themed memorabilia giving it a quirky and fun theme. The star of the show is undoubtedly the ice cream! What a HUGE selection. The quality of the ice cream doesn't go down with all that selection either. Super creamy, rich and packed with flavor. Loved it! Now the ordering process is a madhouse! The ticket system to get your number creates a chaotic environment of shouting and screaming, even some pushing and shoving. Yet, the staff is surprisingly efficient and manages through it all. This is a super cute neighborhood ice cream shop with a huge selection of flavors. Ordering was a little chaotic and while dogs are allowed on the patio, there's not a way to order with your dog without trading humans out inside. Except in the last few years they've decided to switch suppliers and not only get rid of the flavor I get, but also get rid of most of their dairy free options. It's 2026 and lactose intolerance exists so to only have 2 dairy free options in the craziest flavors(cotton candy and chocolate chunk so if you don't like those you're screwed.) is a ridiculously discriminating house. However--for me--it all boils down to the taste of the ice cream. I sampled two flavors--one peach-based ice cream, and the other lemon cheesecake--and neither of them swayed me. The peach was pretty mild, while the lemon cheesecake tasted artificial. Given the growing line behind me, I went a more classic route and chose cookies 'n creme. Taste-wise, it was good enough--a 7/10 at best. If you haven't been, have kids in tow, or want to take a picture on a pig bench, I say give Oink's a try. There were also some fun touches outside, including a pig bench where you could grab a photo opportunity. No seating -or real room- inside, as it gets quite packed with the line, but there is some outside. Service moves quite efficiently - you grab a number when you enter and get called when it's your turn. There are so many flavors that we barely managed to read them all before our number was up! Tough choice, but as chocolate and mint lovers, we couldn't resist the call of Cool Mint Cookie, described as "a mint ice cream stuffed with mint cookie balls, Andes mints, and a chocolate cookie fudge swirl." It would probably be faster if they had a second POS system but they move super quick as is . The ice cream is delicious. The high school kids manning the counter utterly cute, patient and helpful when letting folks get a taste of the various flavors.
