I have been to Jenny Lea a LOT for a bunch of different things ranging from hair color, facials, and nails. The students are always fabulous and go above and BEYOND what I would have expected. However this time, the hair instructors, specifically Ms Clark, have ruined the school for me. I originally booked a toner refresh which ended up being a partial highlight and then charged TWICE for "extra color." The student used two bowls but didn't use more than half of either of them (i'm unsure why) and I picked my toner (which was included the last time I went) out before we started but the instructor was saying that I used two toners? I ended up paying more for a partial highlight that I did for a full highlight 4 months prior. When I had questions about it the student tried to explain to Ms Clark what actually happened and why I shouldn't be charged that much Ms Clark acted as if I was verbally assaulting her by asking questions and just kept repeating that she "wasn't doing anything wrong" and "this was absolutely correct" instead of actually answer my questions. The student was remarkable, her name was Ireland and she did an incredible job. Another student, I'm not sure of her name, came up to me because she could tell I was upset and said that people complain about the instructor all the time so I wanted to make sure to share incase no one else has. I'm aware this is still cheaper than a regular hair salon and I don't take that for granted but paying double than what I originally thought because of sneaky charges isn't cool and what made me leave regular salons. read more

Allow plenty of extra time and patience for your service. Student was a month away from graduating and took over 3 hours for a set nails.

I went to Jenny Lee yesterday and ben done my hair. He is an expert colorist and very sweet and professional. So I wanted to give him a shout out. And also Mrs. Clark. The supervisor she is awesome. Also, she will not do anything to damage your hair and she will let you know what you should or should not do. My daughter started the cosmetology program in 2023 with the new owners. She has since moved to a different school and is thriving. She describes her time at Jenny Lea as emotionally distressing and not the education she was hoping for. 1. Teachers/owner yelled and lost tempers at times 2. Use of a student teacher (which was legally done) took my daughter's group back to a phase they had already completed which stalled my daughter's learning 3. Continuous turn over of employees disrupted continuity 4. Not near as many special speakers or specialty learning (lashes, extensions etc) as my daughter's new school incorporates at no extra cost 5. Not returning my phone calls ( even after confirming messages were received to my daughter) I left on VM as well as with the front desk lady on multiple occasions 6. New school's skin program does not cost extra and is complete whereas JL it cost extra to add esthetician program 7. JL did not save me much money with the financial aid bc it costs more to begin with than many of the other schools we looked into. The owner was right, there is no way to get out of the contract if you go over a certain amount of hours -even if you do not feel like the education is what was promised. I write this review to encourage you to investigate more carefully than we did before you enter into a contract with any cosmetology school. There are quite a few choices in the Tri City area. Even if a response is left from Jenny Lea school trying to cause doubt to this review....do your homework! please ask students if they like it, ask about the contract and what are your rights if they don't hold up their side! State board couldn't even tell me what " supervised teaching" by the student teacher legally meant. Keep an eye on your student's hours so you can leave before owing to much if you are not happy. They are very good at cutting hair, I just went in and my barber had a very positive attitude and she did very well when it came to the haircut that I wanted. The Barber that did my brother very good also. They deserve the tips that we gave them. read more

Jenny Lea Academy is now my go to place for my hair needs. The atmosphere is so comforting and the staff and teachers treated me great. Courtnie Harvell took care of me today and I have never been so pleased with the outcome. I am going back next week for other services they offer and I can't wait. They do such an awesome job at 1/4 the price everywhere else. This is now the only place I will go for all of my needs. I just wish I would have known about them sooner. DO NOT ENROLL OR GO TO THIS SCHOOL AS A CLIENT! I was recently a student there and it was the most awful experience. I liked it at first until you go out on the floor. I was there for 900 hours and hardly learned a thing. I had to watch utube to learn what I do know. I was grabbed and pushed by a teacher (on security camera). The teacher lies, plays favorites and is horrible to students and clients. The school is run by a woman who is dumb as a box of rocks and has no idea what's she's doing. She tried doing a demo on cutting hair and i had to fix the student's hair. Too many clients leave very unhappy. I have already gone to the board of cosmetology and the dept of higher education so I dont expect this school will be open much longer. read more

As a school it is mediocre. There are some great teachers and staff there, but there are some, including the owner, who choose to ignore rules and regulations, and bully students and staff. If you are a minority I would suggest going elsewhere. The owner doesn't like to hire minorities, and she says that minority students only cause trouble. The rules change constantly based on the owners and instructors moods. The school is accredited, but just barely. I would never recommend that anyone go to school there or even work there. Employees are given no benefits and are treated terribly. Students who are not liked by certain staff and instructors are harassed and bullied until they quit. Once you sign the contract you are stuck there unless you want to pay thousands of dollars to have your transcripts and hours released. Think long and hard and do your research before choosing this school. read more

Don't go to Jenny Lea beauty school in Johnson city TN they will lie to you by saying that your hair will turn blonde and then it doesn't they will tell you they can't blend two shades of color into blonde but when I came there in April for prom there was a different instructor that had black hair and I showed her the color that I wanted and she mixed a little bleach and some toning and she got the Cinderella blonde for me no problem I think they just didn't want to do it they just want to tint people's hair cause they don't know how to dye hair they try to rush people through and that they don't care what you look like afterwards that they are just there to make the money their motto is quantity vs quality they look at the customers like their dumb and that they have no cosmetology experience that they're the only ones who has been to beauty school when you tell them that you will take your business over to Sally's and buy the products to have someone do your hair themselves they have a worried look on their face that's probably cause a lot of their products come from there or they have sallys to get the products from another company that are like them the instructors are afraid that people will start going over to Sallys and find out that they can get their hair a lighter color that they want that it's not impossible like the people at Jenny Lea beauty school says its impossible that if you have dark hair your hair won't turn a real light blonde this is not true if you want your hair done right go to Sallys they have people that have took cosmetology and know what they're doing they'll tell you how much of lightening bleach and developer you will need and it's not an act of congress trying to get your hair done haha!I just know I will never go back to Jenny Lea ever again!! read more

I had an appointment for a Spa mani/pedi and had requested a "senior" student meaning one that was close to graduation. I only had to wait a few minutes but it became apparent immediately that the person chosen to do the "spa" mani/pedi had no idea what she was doing. Everything was done out of order and sloppily. It took 4 hours (no joke). I came home immediately and removed the globbed on polish, still stringy cuticles and rough skin. What a total lack of professionalism, sense of order and lack of enthusiasm! I am wondering what these students are being taught or not taught for their tuition. This person is 3 weeks away from graduation and was a total amateur. My 7 year old granddaughter could do a better job with a little coaching and instruction. F- never again. $30 and 4 hours totally wasted. Don't bother with Jenny Lea! read more
