I left one star because Jenny is great at what she does. However, I have been a client for years and have consistently overpaid for services. I continue to go back because she does good work and the location is convenient. This past week, I had enough! I took my daughter's prom dress to her to have it cut. She pinned the dress and waited until my daughter removed the dress to inform me that because of the material, it would cost $400 to have it cut. Keep in mind, I've paid $120-$180 in the past for the same services and one of the dresses was very similar to this one. $400 is insane and more than ti paid for the dress!!! I ended up finding a place in DTLA that charged me $80 and they also did a good job. Jenny refused to lower the price and seemed to not care she was losing a loyal customer. read more

I made the mistake of not shopping around more prior to settling on having my dress altered here because I was SEVERELY OVERCHARGED! I've been going to Jenny for the last 5 years. Jenny's work is great and she is truly an expert. She's straightforward and gets the job done. However I recently noticed she has been overcharging by a lot. The last two visits to her shop had me decide it was time to go somewhere else. Jenny charged me and my husband $15 each just to get our measurements taken. I had called ahead of time for this request but failed to inquire about cost so I was caught off guard when she demanded payment. I can understand paying for her time and service, but $15 for 2 minutes of measurement work seems really unreasonable (I paid $30 in total). I also brought in a blazer and two pairs of jeans. I was quoted $100 to shorten the sleeves of a blazer by an inch, and $35 each to hem and slim down the jeans. She explained there was a lot of labor involved. Unfortunately, being the loyal customer that I was, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and let her work on just the jeans for $70 total. However, something just didn't feel right. There are other tailors out there who will give you a better price for their work. I recently went to a different tailor closer to me for the same exact job for another 2 pairs of jeans. I was quoted $12 each to hem and slim. The huge price difference convinced me that I was truly being ripped off by Jenny. Very disappointing considering that I've been a long time customer - even making the 30-minute drive to her after I had moved out of town. read more

Nancy is the lady who did my alterations and she did an amazing job! When I first went in for a quote, Nancy told me stories about how her #1 priority is to make her customers happy. One time, she quoted her customer a certain price for the job but the job required more time and labor than she anticipated because of the delicacy of the material. However, she did not charge anymore than she quoted because she wanted to honor her words. Once I heard that, I knew that I could place my trust on her. My wedding gown didn't require too much alteration because it had a corset back so it was easily adjustable. The main issue was the length because I am only 5 feet tall and the dress was made to standard size. . I was worried at first because the material is satin and the train of the dress had a particular shape. Nancy was able to trim the dress while keeping the integrity of the design-- my expectations were surpassed! I brought my mom in to have her mother-of-the-bride dress altered because I was so satisfied with their work. :) read more

Took a pair of my son's Muay Thai shorts to be taken in (he's really skinny). She wasn't very friendly when we came in, but I just assumed she was tired and gave her the benefit of the doubt. When I came to pick up, she was on the phone with the customer, so I patiently waited. As soon as she gets off the phone I said, "Hello." I was holding my claim ticket and she barks, "What do you want?" I was annoyed by her gruffness, but I let it slide and gave her the ticket. She looks at it and snarls back, "What is this?" I have to explain that I came a few days ago and was here to pick up my son's shorts. She finally remembered and retrieved them from the rack. As far as the shorts are concerned, she did what she said she would. It appears to be decent work. On the pricey side (Charged $25; could've saved myself the annoyance and just bought a smaller pair of shorts, but they were a special gift from his coach so there was sentimental value). Long story short. She does decent work, but is incredibly and unnecessarily rude. If you don't care about being treated like a human being, then go for it. read more

I needed a bridesmaid dress shortened and another dress adjusted. So after looking up Yelp reviews, I found Jenny and tried to call to see if they were open (COVID period). No one answered but I drove there anyways since the store hours indicated it was open. Street parking was available and it wasn't that hard to find a spot. Inside the store, there was a changing room available for customers to change in. Afterwards you would step out to have alterations pinned in front of a big mirror. When I shared concerns and what my desired outcome was for the dresses, she was able to quickly make suggestions. She was a seasoned tailor because the end results were impressive. Afterwards she gave me a very reasonable quote so I happily filled out some contact info and left my dresses with her. There was an agreed upon pick up date but I forgot to write it down. But that wasn't an issue, I went in when I remembered and my dresses were ready and waiting. I am happy with the service and alterations. The only note I would leave for new customers is to forget about calling. I tried on different occasions and no one picked up and the answering machine was full. It's better to check shop hours and just show up! Also her door is sometimes locked (for safety) so don't be afraid to knock loudly if the lights are on. read more

I'm pretty much echoing all the other reviews about this place now, but they really hit it spot on. Jenny's tailoring does great work, but the prices are definitely more than you would expect, especially from such a modest storefront. Jenny, or whoever the lady who was working when I stopped by was, was extremely nice and helpful. She offered to pin all the adjustments to my suit that she thought were appropriate, and didn't push any of them on me or try to sell me on anything I didn't want. She also gave me different options for fixing different aspects of my suit, depending on if I wanted it to look better or wanted to spend more money. Great place! I'd definitely come back if I could afford it/had nice clothes that needed some touching up! She was also able to get my suit done in ~3 days, which is incredible for the amount of work she did on it! read more

Jenny at Jenny's Tailoring was incredibly sweet and was so quick to help. I brought my dress to her a month before my wedding (because I lag) and she put me completely at ease and said it would be no problem. She was quick and efficient and it came out perfectly! She even helped fashion a band that would help bring in my dress without having to alter the material as that would have cost an extra $200 or so. It was brilliant and my bustle was perfect! I'm sad to see these negative reviews of Jenny - I've been bringing dresses, couture gowns, dress slacks, blazers, swimsuits, etc. to her for alterations for 2 years and consider her my hidden gem. Doesn't matter what material she's working with - illusion sleeves, satin, polyester, nylon - she know's what she's doing. I'm super thin but curvy, and nothing I purchase ever fits exactly right. I've found her prices to be fair, the quality of her work to be excellent, and her personality to be straightforward and honest. She's a no-nonsense woman - so no she isn't the softest or bubbliest, but I trust her entirely. When I brought her a lace up wedding gown for my engagement photos last year that I thought needed to be taken in at the bodice, she helped me into it, showed me how to lace everything up properly so that it was a perfect fit, and explained that it didn't need any alterations. She was absolutely right and sent me on my way without charging me a penny. She could have made a fortune off of my ignorance but didn't - that's the kind of integrity I want in a person I work with. Today I'm bringing her my Marchesa Notte rehearsal gown, and my fiancé's suit pants for alterations - I know they'll be in good hands! read more

I agree with the general reviews here that Jenny's Tailoring does great work, but is EXTREMELY expensive! I don't get clothes tailored often so I am not sure what average prices are at most tailors, but I have gotten a few maxi dresses hemmed at Nordstrom, and they charge $18. However, I had another maxi dress that needed to get hemmed and came here to get it done as Jenny's Tailoring seemed very trustworthy. It cost me $27 ($25 + $2 tax), plus it's cash only. The dress itself was only $45...so the alterations themselves cost half as much as the dress! I would definitely come back to Jenny's Tailoring if I need something expensive or important to get altered (e.g. weddings), but I definitely wouldn't come here to get basic clothes done. read more

Jenny's Tailoring is the best! I have been going to Jenny's at this location and at her prior location for many years. She always takes her time to mark your clothes for the final alteration. I am very picky and she is always very patient with me. She has a very friendly personality and we always have a fun time talking while she is taking my measurements. She is the only person I go to for alterations. Her shop is bright and clean. Street parking is very available, although there is parking in the back. Her alterations are superb! Prices are reasonable and she has never been late for my pick up date. I would highly recommend her for alterations and for sewing a special occasion dress. Just to clear up: I never used their services as they were rude to me over the phone. This is solely on their poor customer service, which is enough for me to turn away from a business. I was looking for a place that did alterations near me and I happened to stumble across Jenny's Tailoring. First of all, when I called they simply answered with a "hello," so I didn't know where I was calling. I figured I was calling the right number though since I got it off of Yelp. Well, next I proceed to simply ask the lady who answered: "How long do alterations usually take to get done?" What does she reply? "No, we can't, we are wry busy!" and just hangs up on me! Really? I was so appalled that a business would talk and treat a potential client like that. I definitely would not recommend it just by my first impression over the phone. Jenny is fabulous! She's sweet and friendly, and her prices are very reasonable. She altered a bridesmaid's dress for me and fixed a zipper on my favorite skirt, and everything was done quickly and very professionally. When I first found Jenny through Yellow Page, I didn't know what to expect. Now me and my partner just come to her for pants, suits and shirts alternation. Years of experience she can tell immediately what needs to be done by just looking at the clothes. She will tell you right away what needs to be done, how long and how much it costs based on the work is involved. It is the no bull shxx kind of approach. This is my kind of approach too I have to say. You know some of the tailors would tell you one thing, then charge you more later or worse, delay or ask you to come back. But not for Jenny. My partner is an executive in Disney ABC studio and I can tell you, he is very picky on what he wants and how it needs to be done. But he just absolutely falls in love with Jenny's work. We even joked about should have Jenny open the store inside the studio in Burbank and just do tailing for other studio executives, she will make more money there. Some of the customers are just cheap and ask for too much for too little money. read more

Took me a while to find a suitable tailor in the 626 area, and Jenny fits the bill perfectly. I've brought in a few dress shirts thus far, with varying amounts of work required to get them to fit to my exact specifications. I'm very picky about how my dress shirts and dress pants fit, and Jenny is very accommodating and willing to work with me on getting the fit perfect. She's just deconstructed about 4 of my dress shirts so far, completely reworking them to get the perfect fit. And the last shirt I purchased fit like a bag (but the material/color was awesome), so Jenny had to completely redesign the shirt. An initial fitting, a 2nd fitting, and we were good to go. As for pants, she'll offer you advice on whether or not it's worth preserving the original hem. I've always preserved the original hem on most of my denim, but she recommended against it in my last few pairs of new jeans and I'm appreciative of her honesty (she told me I could just give her extra money for nothing if it made me feel better, hah). All in all, she provides the highest quality of service and skill, so the cost of her services might be prohibitive for some (relative to other tailors who aren't providing the same level of work). But for me, why collect a bunch of crappy-fitting clothes when you could have a few articles that fit you perfectly? read more

I was looking for a good tailor that wouldn't be too pricey and is relatively close to my house. So i looked on yelp and it seems like jenny has good reviews. So I went to get my suit tailored but I guess it needed A LOT of work. I have very straight and broad shoulders, so altering the lower part of my shoulders was the most expensive part. She did a great job and the suit looks wonderful! But grand total I had to pay $220 for alterations! I got the sleeves slimmed, the sides taken in, the back near my neck lifted? and shortened the sleeves. She did a great job but I think it was WAY too expensive. But i guess that is what you have for quality. She does a great job, but it could get pricey. So its a toss up really. You want great work you have to pay for it read more

I found Jenny through Yelp and I am so glad that I did. I needed a tailor to alter my mom's wedding dress to something more modern that I would wear to my own wedding. This was a big task to do! Jenny had me put it on, asked what I'd like to do to it and added her own opinions to make the dress fit me better. She transformed my mom's 70s dress to a dress I was so happy to wear. Jenny was very fast, the quality of her work was excellent and it didn't cost an arm and a leg either! Very rude. I went in with my daughter for an estimate. Being that this was the first time having to have clothing altered, I was going different places to make sure I choose the right place for the right price. Jenny gave her estimate and I told her I had another place to go to and I would come back. I come back at 40 min later and knocked on the door and she waved in a "no we're closed" motion. She opened the door and said sorry, and I said, are you closed already? She said no, if you don't work with us first time, you don't get a second time. I was not going to choose the first place I go too. That's ridiculous. If you don't allow people to come back for service, than you need to verbally state that the first time! I was given a lovely navy velour robe for Christmas...too small...had a navy velour throw and asked for gussets to make the robe fit...in a week it was ready, done to perfection...I'm impressed, having taken other clothing to a nearby "tailor" and paying as much but winding up with nothing's having been done. I've lately lost 60 pounds, which means all "old" clothes would need to be altered and new things I buy from new labels might not fit...the fine work done here is worth the price, making beloved old clothes fit again and making new things fit my smaller but still awkward shape. Jenny is AMAZING!!!! I had a bridesmaid dress to alter. The top was WAY TOO TIGHT and the bottom was too long. She hemmed the bottom and I really had no idea how to make the boob part a bit looser but she worked her magic. Basically, she decided to take the dress down from the top giving me more room. Altogether was $70. I go pick up the dress and of course the zipper broke when I was taking off the dress!!! For another $10 she replaced the zipper and somehow made more room on the top part of my dress. For a week I was stressing that this damn dress wasn't going to fit, and when I picked it up, she told me she added an extra inch at the top and when I tried it, it was MAGICAL. It fit perfectly!!!!!!!!! It didn't look like I did any alterations at all. I was so happy I wanted to hug her. Before then I kept calling that dress "the dress from hell" but because of her, it's perfect! I highly recommend her and her prices can't be beat!!! She knows what she's doing. read more

all mens magazines say find a great tailor and stick with them. ive used her for over 15 years since she used to be in san marino and searched her out to san gabriel after she left. i read some bad comments, which i think is unfair. in this day and age there are not too many honest people out there. she is one of the honest ones. if she cant do something, she will tell you. if she thinks it will cost too much, she will tell you. honestly, dont buy a $10 shirt and plan on altering it. it will cost more than the shirt. many times i buy something and bring it to her first before deciding if i will return or keep. all my suits, pants, shirts have always been handled by her. no problems at all. i have tried many tailors, but she has proven to be the most honest and consistent. read more

haven't gotten that dress in yet, but i've brought plenty others to Jenny, and every time she delivered above and beyond! Granted that the cost is not cheap, and she's really honest about it as well, I considered money well spent because now I get to actually wear these clothes that I had originally and still love so much. In general, for major alteration for dresses (reducing size) depending on the complexity of the pattern, it may cost anywhere from $55-70. I had gotten a qipao majorly altered for $70. She works well with all types of materials and will spend time brainstorming with me the most efficient (cost and time) way to work with the fabrics. I consider this my new addiction-- getting clothes altered to fit your body perfectly. It is hard to have it any other way now that I have been spoiled by her good work. That being said, the fee can be a determining factor for many so just keep that in mind, only bring in things that you know will be worth spending a considerate amount of money. if not, just go shopping for new ones! read more

Jenny is great. In addition to doing fantastic work, the prices are ridiculously reasonable. I had her alter two pant suits (pants + jackets) and two pairs of pants. It was $100 for the six pieces. A bargain - especially since I was considering using the Macy's tailor and that would have cost me about $50 just to have one jacket done. She's a really nice, friendly woman, she does great work, and she finishes quickly and on time (I needed my stuff done in a week before I left for a conference). After years of failed attempts to replace my retired tailor I finally found Jenny through Yelp. Since my body type means offtrack clothes are almost impossible to fit well, I wanted another tailor who possessed the skills and talent to turn my clothes into beautiful fitted garments. Jenny has worked on both my ordinary and expensive items, ranging from Dockers to Hugo Boss, and each time I left her shop completely satisfied. Overrated and expensive for wedding alteration. She might has experience for others but not for wedding dress. She complained about many layers of the gown. Come on, this is a wedding dress not an evening dress. Also, she didn't put the hook correctly that most the time the train felt down. She charged $300 + tax. Jenny is definitely a purist in her trade. I asked her if she could remove things, add this, cut this off, etc. etc. and she actually refused because she said it wouldn't look good and it would alter the authenticity and intent of the piece. I thought that was a pretty honest and bold thing to say. In the end, we reached a compromise of what we could do with my vest for Halloween. She's good though a bit pricey ($55). read more

I went to Jenny solely because of the glowing reviews here and I'm so glad I did! She did a fantastic job on my bridesmaid dress! She had to do quite a lot of work including take in the bust, shorten the halter strap, hem it to my knees and take out the sides a little. She charged me $165 including tax for all that work which I thought was very reasonable considering it was a 3 thin layered dress. She was also incredibly nice and helpful and extremely professional. She obviously knew what she was doing when she was pinning me up and telling me what she would do. I highly recommend Jenny, and I will go back to her to do some more alterations in the future. read more

I needed my wedding gown altered because it was two sizes too big. Of course, I was very nervous about taking it to any seamstress because I knew it would be a bit complicated to fix. Since I do not know a seamstress, I turned to Yelp for help. I found Jenny through Yelp and decided to give her a try since she was highly rated. I met with other seamstresses, but decided to go with Jenny because I felt she truly understood what had to be done so my gown would fit properly. I was not disappointed. When I first met with Jenny and told her the problems with the gown (many of which she could see right off the bat), she pinned me in the gown a few different ways to see what would work best. My alterations were difficult due to the lace and beading on the gown plus the fact that it needed to be taken in quite a bit. I was concerned that the shape of the dress would change, but it didn't. Jenny took the time to figure out the best way to proceed and my gown now fits me like a glove. She is very, very careful and the quality of her work is superb. I am extremely happy with the work she did. I think her prices are fair especially when you consider the quality of the work she does. read more
