I got there right as they opened. The cinnamon buns looked good so I said "can I have these two buns right here". The associate went to the back table and got me two different buns. Mild fail for not getting me the ones I requested. I ended up with eight buns. I mention "I'm making boxes, one for my mom and one for my dad". There's a wonderful looking chocolate cake with mascarpone and caramel in the middle and on top, very pretty. I say "I have guests for dinner, can I have 3 slices". This cake is wildly unequally cut. She starts to give me the slices that are about an inch wide, moving in that direction each guest will get very different servings. I ask if I can have different slices and she says "no, because then it won't look as nice sitting there". I question if the container she's about to put them in is tall enough. She assures me it is, and it's the biggest one they have. It's not. I say "I'll just carry it out without shutting it". As she tries to fannagle the last piece in the box and it's sliding and separating. She then goes to shut the box. I'm looking at the mess thinking how will I serve this? Then I say, "pork is being served for dinner, what bread would you recommend"? She says "probably any but not the current, sunflower, flax", which shocks me because I imagine pork and currents as a wonderful match. Anyway, I buy 4 loaves and a breakfast foccia. I'm not offered a receipt and in fact not told a total or presented the screen to see a total. Instead, the screen is slightly tilted to the side for me to reach around and scan my card. As the items are being packed, she puts the frosted cinnamon rolls on the bottom and goes to put 4 loaves of bread on top. Sweet mother of Pete, I say "would you mind packaging the bread separately so the cinnamon roll topping doesn't get smashed and stick to the box?" At this point, I'm a bit frustrated and I'm pretty sure they just want me to leave. The foccia was salty, chuck full of herbs with tender bacon and whole egg cooked so that it's not dry or crumbly and probably soft enough to spread, surrounded by bread airy and soft, still having a good satisfying chew. When I reached out to some food loving friends the sentiment was, "always great items" but everyone had a situation where service was "dry, dismissive, aloof". I have been looking for a bakery that will produce a sourdough bread without a bunch of additives, conditioners or preservatives. This may be it. I have tried the batard, the einkorn loaf and the pain de campagne, all of which were very good. The crust on the batard was everything you could want it to be and the interior was soft and chewy. The einkorn was good and I would be happy with that every day but my favorite is the pain de campagne. I will get that every time with a variety of others added for variety. I stuck with the bread. My wife had some of the other baked goods and had no complaints. Finally, I don't know what they have in stock for the breads because I ordered and paid online and then picked the order up. I like that I didn't drive over there to find out they were sold out. read more

I had been meaning to try Jens Artisan for a while, but could never get my timing quite right, and would always try to visit on a day they weren't open or at a time which was after they'd closed. But recently the stars aligned and I was able to catch them at peak hour with lots of choices for breads and savory items. I was actually thankful that there was a line of people ahead of me, because it gave me more time to survey what others were ordering and to review what was on the counter, and really think about what I wanted. When it was my time to order I went with their quiche of the day and a piece of their special small cheesecakes. The quiche was 100% THE BEST quiche I have had in any restaurant-ish business in Rochester. Light, fluffy, moist, not too salty, perfect crust - absolutely delectable. It was so good that after one bite I continued eating it and then it was gone. No photos. I wish I had taken some - it was truly a thing of beauty. I would highly recommend going there just for a single piece, or buying a whole one to serve for guests. The cheesecake was 'saved for later'. When we finally cut into it, it was also creamy and sweet, but also perfectly balanced with some light fruity-topping. The density lent itself to that kind of mouth feel where the cheesecake it like velvet. Just melt in your mouth. I understand that they mix up the flavors and toppings so this would also be another great treat or even a lovely dessert for a home dinner party. I will definitely be returning and look forward to trying more of their offerings. I also love that the front of the shop has a small market selling cured sausages, jams and snacks - and that the variety is unique. read more

Cute small bread shop off of Winton. Upon walking in, you immediately are hit with that fresh bread smell. There are plenty of different varieties and shapes of bread, as well as fresh baked treats. There are some sandwich options too. We bought a loaf of the sunflower blonde which was baked to perfection. It was perfectly crunchy on the outside with a toasted sunflower seeds and the inside had a rich deep flavor that is hard to describe and you have to try. We LOVED their sourdough baguette (so crunchy!), the focaccia (savory and pillowy), and the whole grain spelt loaf (hearty, chewy, moist, flavorful). All served fresh and hot. My kid ate a mini pain de campagne loaf, and my toddler ate a quarter of the seasonal focaccia, so safe to say that it's good bread. I enjoyed the focaccia and the caprese sandwich, which they had as a special alongside an eggplant sandwich. Their local artisanal products (jam, coffee, honey, cheese, meat, flour, etc.) are great too, either for yourself or as gifts. The owner and staff were very friendly and clearly had lots of regulars, with some loaves selling out early in the day. read more

Omg! Wow! This is the best bread I have ever eaten. The bread is absolutely amazing. Jen is so talented, her shop is so cool. She even has some local beef and eggs. I have become addicted to the bakery! Everything is amazing here. The bread is so good and wholesome tasting, and I love that it's real ingredients. Cookies, muffins, scones, and CINNAMON BUNS are to die for. On Saturday's she makes a breakfast focaccia that is just unreal and never makes it home without being eaten.
