But forcing people to come into the office while running fevers, and back-to-back family illness (which makes sense given we live together that we would catch from each other)? If you or someone in your household gets sick on an appointment day, know that you will be billed! And when you're in the office, know that the other patients might be coming in while sick, as they will be billed if they don't show up. We had chosen Heinecke Family Dentistry because they were not a big chain and seemed genuinely family-run. After spending several thousand dollars on extensive dental work out of pocket, they drew a hard line that we pay another $50 for getting sick, or never come back. The worst part is the duplicity of seemingly like a genuine and compassionate place, but actually have no issue tossing out two patients who have been coming for years for not coming in when sick. Going into my first filling, I actually felt confident because of how positive that initial experience had been. Unfortunately, today's appointment was the complete opposite. From the moment he walked into the room, he was cold and dismissive. I tried to joke that I wasn't ready yet, hoping to ease my nerves, but he didn't respond. I reminded him that I get very shaky from local anesthetic, and instead of offering reassurance, he said, "You've had a lot of dental work. This is all we've got. You'll be fine." During the procedure, he placed and tightened the thin metal matrix band around my tooth. As soon as it was tightened, I could clearly feel it digging and stabbing into my gum line. This wasn't pressure--it was sharp, localized pain exactly where the band was pressing against my gum. I told him I was in pain, but he argued that it was "just pressure." No, it was pain. I tried to explain that it genuinely hurt, but he became irritated and told me there was nothing he could do about it. The pain continued the entire time the band was in place. At that point, I stopped saying anything and just lay there with tears running down into my ears while he continued working. His incredibly kind assistant quietly wiped away my tears and showed me more compassion than the person performing the procedure. After the anesthetic wore off, my gum remained sore, and I now have a cut along my gum line. After the procedure, instead of apologizing or acknowledging that I had a painful experience, Dr. Ledger asked if I had generalized anxiety. I told him no. It felt like he was trying to blame my reaction on anxiety instead of accepting that I had repeatedly told him I was in pain. I told him I would never come back. His response was, "Really? Wow." He then walked out of the room repeating, "Wooow." I want to be very clear that every other member of the office was wonderful. The front desk staff, hygienist, and assistant were all kind, compassionate, and professional. They deserve five stars. I genuinely feel bad that they have to work with what can only be described as a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality. I know Dr. Ledger personally responds to his reviews, so I'll say this directly: Do better. Patients shouldn't have to argue with their dentist about whether they're feeling pain. If a patient tells you something hurts, listen. Even if there's no alternative, empathy costs nothing. No one should leave a routine filling appointment in tears, be left with an injured gum, and then have their experience dismissed as anxiety. Mentioned I had been texting back and forth with Emma about this promotion, who asked me to tell her about why I needed this, said that she could hear how much this means to me, set up today's appointment and assured me that Dr. Cummings was there to help. Was told there was no Emma, no such promotion, they don't do bridges and any no charge consultation would be just the area a person needs an impant. I paid $7,000 upfront, expecting quality care and a functional result. What followed was seven months of pain, delays, and disappointment. The crown procedures were excruciating. The anesthesia wore off within 15 minutes, and I was injected multiple times. At one point, I was told I had reached the maximum allowed and still wasn't numb--yet the drilling continued. My jaw swelled and bruised for weeks after each visit. I've never experienced this level of pain with any other dental provider. Next came the denture work. The team attempted to modify my old lower partial to fit around the new crowns but broke a clasp in the process, making the partial unstable. They made a temporary one, but it didn't fit properly. For months, I had to rely on gluing my old partial in daily (and still do see end of review) using Poly Grip while waiting for the new dentures. Over the next six months, I had numerous appointments for wax try-ins to select the proper teeth. Each visit brought new issues: the wrong shade, incorrect size, misaligned center line, etc. Six months in, they finally found a match that worked. When the final dentures were delivered, I noticed something shocking: they had no back molars. None. Every denture I've had before included back molars, which are essential for chewing food. I made another appointment and brought my husband along. We met with a dental assistant, explained the issue, and showed her my previous denture sets--all of which had molars. She seemed confused by the omission and called in the lab tech. We explained that four molars (two on top, two on bottom) needed to be added. She agreed and went to get the dentist. When the dentist entered the room, he immediately launched into a hostile tone. His voice was raised, and he accused us of being "too tense." We had said nothing more than, "We'd like the four molars added." We were calm, but he claimed he didn't like our tone. He then stated that he didn't understand the issue and that I "needed to learn how to chew." To try and deescalate the situation, I softly said, "I would please like my four teeth put in my denture plates." His response "There you go--that's all you needed to say," delivered with dismissiveness and blatant condescension. He left the room. My husband and I sat there, stunned by his behavior. The lab tech and assistant returned, apologetic and professional. I showed them again what needed to be added. They confirmed the plates would be ready in three days. Three days later, I picked up the dentures. Yes, the molars had been added. But after all this and 7 months into this, the dentures still did not fit properly. At this point, I was exhausted, emotionally drained, and completely done with the entire process. I left with the poorly fitting dentures and decided to seek help elsewhere. I found a denture repair clinic 1.5 hours away--Quick Denture Repair in Tavares, FL--and saw a gentleman named James. He was professional, respectful, and most importantly, skilled. He successfully repaired the top denture plate so that it now fits properly. Unfortunately, the bottom partial has a metal frame and was not salvageable for repair. As a result, I've had to come up with my own workaround: I now pair the newly repaired top denture with my old lower partial--the one the original dentist's office broke--and glue it in every day. While far from ideal, it's the only solution I've found that allows me to chew food without any discomfort. After 8 months, multiple appointments, and over $8,000 spent--including $1,260 for outside repairs--I left the original dental office with ill-fitting dentures and no lasting solution. It was the most painful and frustrating dental experience of my life. Along with being out all this money and not having a functioning set of new dentures. I absolutely do not recommend this practice.
