Dr. Shuayb is the best dentist ever! I have been a patient for many years and have had crowns replaced when I thought I needed an implant. I never miss my cleaning appointments and during my last cleaning it was recommended that I would need to Resin fillings. I was given an estimate of $226.80 but was surprised when I only owed $7.00!!! Not only do I get the best work done I have never felt I was overcharged or told I needed any work that I did not need to have done for the best dental care possible. I will never return to the practice on Mariner again after the treatment I received from the office manager. Some background that I have learned recently: There are three Shuayb locations in the area, Mariner, Cortez and Aerial Way. My experience is ONLY the one on Mariner. I had them do my dentures. They were somewhat expensive, but the dentures seemed OK. Since then, there have been needs for some "adjustments" which is to be expected. The latest adjustment was beyond the warranty period and turned to be a disaster. The first visit for this adjustment did little to make them less painful so a next visit had to be scheduled. After this second attempt, the technician said she "took some material off but did not want to take too much off and I should try it and come back if necessary." I tried to get by for a few days by but still had issues so had to schedule yet another visit. For this third try, I got a different technician who did a good job. The problems came when I checked out. The office manager insisted that I be charged again for the adjustment. I maintained that I had already paid for the adjustment and asked why they wanted to be paid again as this was a follow up on the original adjustments which did not work. At this point the office manager went on a tirade and literally yelled at me like I was an errant child. I did pay the bill, but it is absolutely the last time that I will ever return to that place. I really hope you have a better experience but, in my opinion, they are more interested in making money than retaining customers. read more

Well I'm a bit calm now. But this all starts with first appt when I thought I would not only get a cleaning but I would also meet DDS. When I suggested meeting DDS hygienist was very upset. Told me I'd have to wait. She said yes you were not scheduled to see DDS. So I waited and met him for a few minutes but he even seemed upset. How dare I ask! Then second appt came. Saw hygenist asked again about the DDS she said no not unless in pain! Oh my well ok let's just say I'm gluten for punishment. My teeth started hurting so I called the dentist to get him to see him while they had a date I took off of work. I went there and got there five minutes early and waited and waited and waited an hour and eight minutes goes by and I ask will I be seen soon because I already lost money from work? Receptionist said well there's been some patients seen this morning that were not happy and wanted to see DDS, people that have come in and left. They came Have come back in the afternoon to get whatever fixed not sure why that happens. I guess in the past when I've had problems I've been told to make an appointment for the following day sometimes even had to wait a week but anyway, so I said well then I guess I can just reschedule my fault again. I went to the bathroom she said no let's see what we can do. I came out she said yes we're gonna reschedule. I know I offered but at that point after going to the bathroom and sitting and thinking about it I was very upset. I just sat there an hour and they took another lady that was only waiting there for half an hour And told me I would have to reschedule probably cause her crown was gonna take less time and they were gonna get home in time not that I took any time off from work didn't get paid, but my time does not matter to them so I really can't think of wanting to go back. The reception is very lovely very nice, but it seems where the DDS thinks he is God and can test his patients however he wants. The practice needs to be thought full of the patients time. Tech took me back to the room for my crown. About 10 minutes later she said the dentist will get in to numb the area for your crown. OK no problem. SO I waited and waited and waited and waited some more. I waited 60 minutes or 1 hour!! No dentist!! He's down 2 doors down the hall way having a meeting!! Couldn't come out to take of patients that have been waiting for an hour to be taken care of! NO more I'm done with this inconsiderate so called dentist. NEW CUSTOMERS BEWARE! I made an appointment for a new patient cleaning approximately 3 months prior to today. I had the appointment today, waited 30 minutes past my appointment time for them to start taking x-rays. After X-rays I was not seen by the dentist until about 1 hour past my appointment time. The dentist was very nice and professional and did a very quick dental exam that took about 2 minutes. She then told me I could schedule an appointment for a cleaning. I thought my appointment was for a cleaning so I was confused why a cleaning would not be done at the time of my appointment. I was then informed by the front desk staff that it is their offices policy that cleanings are not done on the same day as new patient exams and that I would need to schedule a cleaning for a different day. I asked why this was not disclosed and explained to me when I made the appointment. I was very clear when I called to make the appointment that I get a cleaning every 6 months, that I just moved to the area and that I was calling early so that I could be on schedule for my 6 month cleaning. This is when the office manager started speaking to me in a very rude and condescending tone that I would never have been told that my first visit would include a cleaning because they never do cleanings on first visits and that it was impossible for me to have been told this. I was then told that the person who made the appointment was no longer with the dental office. It's a shame that this office has such a rude and unhelpful office manager since the facility was very clean and modern and the dental assistant who took my x-rays was very friendly and professional. I took 2 hours of sick time to make this visit and am now being told they don't have an appointment for a cleaning at a time that works for me for another month out. Since I called months ago for the new client appointment, they should have also scheduled a cleaning, even if on another day when I initially called for the appointment. I am very disappointed in how this established is being managed and this is my main reason for leaving a one star review. Like others on Yelp have commented, their google reviews of 4.8 starts seems to be bogus. I wish I looked this sham of a dental facility up on Yelp before wasting my time with them. read more

My son who is special needs had a new patient appointment, they explained that for the X-rays I could not go back. Which I completely understand, I stressed to the receptionist girl plus the dental assistant that took my son back he was special needs, and to please come get me when his X-rays are done. As my son gets extremely anxious when I'm not there. 35 minutes later I'm still sitting waiting. So i got up and asked is his X-ray done to receptionist said let me find out and calls the dental assistant. She comes and goes he's all done. I said great I got back. Dentist comes in doesn't look at me, doesn't address my son. Super rushed , super un personable just says he needs to come back for a cleaning. I'm like uhhh ok? We go out to the receptionist to check out and she's on the phone. I stand there waiting 15 more minutes and no one else offers to check us out. Or to set up his cleaning. So we walked out, office not once called me but they had no problem billing my insurance company. This office has the worst customer service of lack there of, dentist was rude didn't even look at me or speak to me. We will never go back here again! So your calling me a liar Shuayb???? I'm floored by your response here. I have proof of claims from my dental insurance it indeed was you and this location. I was reading the reviews while waiting and should have left then, but I went in. I was looking to get the estimate to have the rest of my few teeth pulled. I already had my impressions made when I found out the oral surgeon I had planned on using no longer took my insurance so I was trying to find a new oral surgeon. After waiting for an hour in the chair the dentist finally came in. He poked around in my mouth and was saying he could do partials which is ridiculous since I don't have that many teeth left. Granted the ones I do still have are strong with no issues. In a huff he stood up and left me laying nearly upside down in the chair and said he'd be back.. 45 minutes later I got up and headed toward the exit. Stay away from the office on Mariner, they gave me a quote for Dentures of $6595. The bottom plate has implants and they gave me a quote of $5700 just for the bottom plate. I called their office to see if they took our Cigna reduced plan and they said yes, when I went back for the impressions they stated that it would be $7200 with my reduction plan? They stated that they would honor the original quote for the $6595 as the coverage we had raised the price. I called the reduction plan and gave them the code number for the lower plate that the dentist office gave us and they said it should be $1800 for the bottom plate and $775 for the top plate, that would be a total of $2575. When I explained to the reduced plan what was going on at Shuayb they said they would call them and then call me back. The Rep from Cigna called me back and said they spoke to Penny at the office and they would honor the plan, I called the office and asked for Penny, Sofia stated she wasn't available so I spoke to a Sofia inquiring about the conversation I had with my Cigna Plan. Sofia was very rude, she stated that they were not going to honor our plan, when I asked her why and that a rep from our plan had spoken to Penny and she said they would. Sofia refused to let me speak to Penny, she stated she spoke to the dentist and that they were going to cancel my husband as a patient and I said why, she stated she had that right and she proceeded to call my wife a grumpy old lady. Really unprofessional, rude and name calling, how old is this person, she shouldn't be in the customer service field. My grandson is a hygenist, he reccomended calling Affordable Dentures, we did that and they quoted me a price of $2000 including the implant fixtures and a four year warranty, they also do not take insurance or any reduction plan and were less expensive than Shuayb!!! They made the impressions and I will be going back for a fitting Tomorrow, I hope everything continues to go as smooth as it has been so far. The staff was amazing prior to 2020 unfortunately all left during the pandemic. Now the worst staff ever and I have spoken to quite a few people that all agree! First of all, unfriendly, they lie to you about leaving a message to cancel an appointment, to find out they lied to you about which hygienist you requested. This was he last straw!!! I haven't had my teeth cleaned in almost a year because of knee replacement, so I had to take 2000mg of antibiotic 1 hour prior to show up at the office to find out that my appt was cancelled, that supposedly they left me a message to cancel the appt (which I never got) then was told that I must have blocked their number really????? My husband went there with a toothache and was advised that the tooth was decayed and needed to come out. He said no problem, just pull it. Not today, you need to make another appointment and handed us an estimate for the process, including a bone graft and implant for a total of 4500.00. They made a series of appointments in case we wanted to go with this. I called the next week and told them, no we don't have the money and we weren't interested in going through with the estimate, all we wanted was the next appointment to pull the tooth (which would be covered by the insurance. Long story short, the notes were on his chart and he told them at the appointment all he wanted was the extraction. When all was done, he was billed for over 600.00 because they did some prep work for the implant. Yeh the implant we weren't interested in doing. I went to Shuayb Dental on Mariner Blvd to have a crown replaced that broke. The crown that broke was the one that held my partials in place! When Dr. Mohammad Shuayb came in to examine me he had his own ideas of what my dental plan should be. He wanted to pull all my remaining teeth, take an impression and fit me for a complete set up upper dentures. I told him that was not acceptable, as all I wanted was a new crown to hold my old partials. Because I disagreed with his plan, he then became irritated and walked out of the room and left me in the dental chair. I was then asked to leave and find another dentist! It was his way or the highway! I am not used to dealing with a dentist that has a Godlike attitude. I do not recommend Dr Shuayb as he acts just like a spoiled child! read more

I had three crowns done by Dr. Omar Shuayb -- on the initial day he said he could do the crowns and it would be no problem. On the first day to get the teeth ready for the crowns one of his techs tried to do the impressions for the crowns three times--she had to get another tech to do the impressions since she could not do them. Then it was time to grind the teeth for the crowns--Dr.Omar shows up--not a word to me just started talking to the tech about his music choice he was listening to --he only said to me "turn this way or that" not another word--he left without saying anything to me --the patient. On the day to have the perms put in a tech tried on several occasions and failed miserably and had to get another tech to do them. Dr. Omar was again a no show--never checked to see if the fit was correct or anything---after I was home for 2 days I had a terrible headache and found that there was a large amount of glue stuck between my molars and after much work I finally got it out and the ache went away. DO NOT GO TO THESE DENTAL OFFICES (THEY HAVE THREE) THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE $$$$--NOT THE PATIENT. read more

Took my daughter there yesterday. Got billed for an adult cleaning. Was told she has two cavities and was given treatment plan with total charges of $558 on dental plan. Called dental plan and was told this represents SEVEN different procedures that are impossible to do on two teeth. Called Shuayb and was told the plan is for FOUR teeth. So they found TWO cavities and are doing fillings on FOUR teeth. Now I have to go somewhere else and find out if she has any cavities at all. read more

I was charged for a missed appointment even though I still had 20 minutes to get there. When I objected, a staff member told me on the phone, "Those are the rules. I don't make them. If you are going to keep calling to complain about the appointment then you should go someplace else." I am a senior citizen & a patient for many years. This has been my dentist for several years. It has always (even when they moved offices) had clean patient rooms with very new equipment. The dentist himself is very nice and seems to do a very thorough job. I must say it does have a decent waiting room and etcetera.
