Had a WONDERFUL stay here with my husband. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful, and we loved our room 37A which has a HUGE private balcony which we enjoyed sitting out on and looking at the view of the Verde Valley. Now, we didn't see any ghost, BUT we did capture an insane amount of orbs in 1 picture. Also, at 3 a.m. I nearly fell out of bed when I heard the sound of metal being banged around in the hallway, it sounded like someone was just beating the crap out of a cookie sheet or something. (And yes, the hallway turned out being empty) , at around 4 a.m., we heard what sounded like the elevator gates being slammed open and shut, several times, very loudly. Our room was very clean and we loved the way the hotel was decorated. In the hallways, they had various antique displays to look at which we found interesting. Also, in one of the rooms on our floor, some of the guest were being insanely loud- yelling, slamming doors, etc... But, the desk clerk handled it very well and we all got to enjoy a peaceful evening, once he had a talk with them. We will definitely be back again! read more

I planned our whole trip around this hotel ghost tour only to be called while on the road there to be told it was cancelled since we were on our way we just decided to see what was offered. We had an excellent time staying at the Jerome Grand Hotel. They have a variety of unique rooms. Our room was clean and comfy with a view of the valley below. They offered a complimentary pastry breakfast which was sufficient. I was disappointment they no longer offer tours. Jerome is a great historical town with breathtaking views. read more

I am in remiss. I meant to write this review a long time ago and I feel bad I didn't do it far sooner, these guys TRULY deserve this review. Firstly, let me be clear, you probably do not want to stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel if you are easily spooked, trust me. I grew up in a funeral home and I am generally cynical about ghost claims, but I was definitely very uneasy a few times during my stay. Now, most old hotels claim to be haunted, but I think it takes more than just being old to be able to say your site is haunted. I think a site also needs a history of death and sadness before the imprint of spirit activity can be genuinely claimed. So, if you agree with that statement then wouldn't an old hospital be a logical hotbed of spirit activity? Well, I've stayed here a few different times, and this one is. For our honeymoon and my husband and I decided to stay in Jerome instead of leaving the State, so we booked a few nights in a balcony room at the Jerome Grand Hotel. The wedding and reception went great, but when we woke up the next morning ready to get ready and leave for Jerome we realized that we were both sick with head and chest colds. We already had a babysitter lined up, hotel reservations and vacation time scheduled from work, so there was nothing to be done for it but just to press on with our honeymoon plans and arm ourselves with a crap ton of cold medicine. I was feeling pretty yucky and the highlight of that first afternoon was that my newly-minted husband wandered down to the restaurant attached to the hotel, Asylum, and told them I was sick in bed and got me a bowl of their phenomenal Butternut Squash Soup and some bread. (Seriously, the soup is amazing.) Our first night there I was really miserable; our balcony room was sandwiched between a set of rooms that were occupied by two young couples who were good friends and heavy drinkers. We got to hear them going in and out of their rooms and drunkenly arguing then hugging it out in the hallway...ALL NIGHT LONG. By the next morning I was exhausted, feeling even more ill and wicked pissed. I told my husband I wanted to just forget it and go home, so he went down to the front desk to check out. He told them that our honeymoon was sabotaged by illness and my misery was amplified by the idiots on either side of our room keeping me up all night, and this is where they really did something that made me love them to this day; they said "Oh, please don't cancel your honeymoon over this" and they moved us out of our regular balcony room and upgraded us over to the Grand Suite, which is really a huge, two bedroom apartment insulated at the far end of the hotel. I couldn't believe it. Not only were we completely isolated from the noisy drunks (and everyone else) but we were staying in the coolest, most unique hotel 'room' I had ever seen. It was so big it had a foyer, two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a dining room, a television room, an office and two full bathrooms. And it was completely furnished in beautiful antique furniture, including an antique crank style record player (and records) that is understand is a family heirloom of the hotel's owner. Upgrading us like that was such a kind gesture on the part of the hotel owner and I was so touched. It truly was the one thing that saved our honeymoon from being an utter disaster and made it a really special experience. Now as far as the status of the hotel being haunted I'll reiterate that I believe something is going on there. Numerous times I had all the hairs on the back of my arms and my neck stand straight up, and I had that eerie feeling you get when someone is watching you, even if nobody is there. Once or twice I woke up in the middle of the night and I wanted to get a snack from the fridge, but there was NFW I was gonna get out of bed and walk across that stone silent, pitch black apartment to get to the kitchen. It takes a lot to spook me like that, A LOT, but I most definitely was spooked. I will end this review by mentioning that after a good night of sleep that second night I did start to feel much better and we spent the next few days exploring the antique shops in Jerome, and all the surrounding area. Finally towards the end of our stay we had dinner at Asylum, and wouldn't you know it that the staff there not only knew exactly who we were, but they also remembered that I had been sick and inquired about how I was feeling. I was so touched and impressed by that. :) This is my favorite hotel in the whole State. Sure, there are lots of other cool, historic places to stay in Arizona, and I've stayed at many of them including The Biltmore, El Tovar, Copper Queen, San Carlos, Hassayampa Inn, La Posada, etc. but the Jerome Grand Hotel remains my all time favorite for the ambiance, décor and hospitality, the *actual* presence of ghosts, and the genuine warmth from the staff and the owner; who single handedly saved our honeymoon. I wish I could give this place less than one star!! Don't get me wrong, I used to love this place growing up...but since they have been bought out by a new family, it is TERRIBLE. It was my mom and best friend's birthdays today and we had made a reservation along with 4 other people. We were told the room we got would hold 6, but apparently it didn't. Instead of giving us the room because it was THEIR mistake, the man, Chris, who is apparently the manager, called us all liars and tore our reservation up in our faces!! My friend (whose BIRTHDAY it was) just walked up to him, mortified, asking why he would treat his customers this way. My mom was almost in tears from disappointment. He caused an HUGE scene in front of his customers and told us all to get out or he would call the cops. It was RIDICULOUS! You do NOT treat your customers this way, especially when you get their business often! If you want to book a room there, I recommend not, it's been ruined!!! read more

I stayed here a few months ago in July in room 32 and was pleased with my experience. I see a few negative reviews on management which I find odd, because everyone I spoke with I didn't have any problems with. For all of the hoity toity people out there this isn't the Four Seasons Resort. This building is old and full of history and is very exciting to explore. Weird vibes are felt walking through the halls during the late hours of the night. There was also a body parts shoot in the hallways where doctors used to drop limbs into after operating on patients.The elevator was really cool too. I believe it was built in 1927 and is the oldest running one to this day in the nation. Good times and I can't wait to visit again! read more

The view from our balcony was really the was the only good thing here , about $250 for a night I expect to actually get some sleep , this place allows big parties to rent the grand suite and that's what happened the night we stayed we listen to the party all night , I guess rule #2 doesn't apply to large parties ... I understand the place is old , but also at their rates I expect a half way decent bed, the rooms are big I'm sure they could upgrade your bed to a king of not then a better quality queen would have been nice. For the rates we paid I could have stayed at a better hotel or a B&B or a place with room air conditioning. Overall overrated and overpriced. Great place to go visit but not to stay at. read more

4 professional couples came up to celebrate my girlfriends 50th birthday and were told that we were too noisy at 6:30 in the afternoon! This is ridiculous and we will never stay here again. My wife and I first saw The Jerome Grand Hotel profiled on a paranormal tv show, essentially saying it was the most haunted hotel in Arizona... my wife and I decided to take a vacation to Jerome to experience it for ourselves. I will review the Jerome Grand in two categories: Hotel: As a hotel, the Jerome Grand leaves a lot to be desired... on the first night we booked one of their pricier rooms with a private balcony over-looking the valley. The view was beautiful, I must say... at least 20 miles across the valley. The room itself (34) was a bit sub-par... missing pictures from two walls (just empty nails)... worn, industrial carpet... after the long drive my wife and sat on the comfy balcony chairs and smoked for about an hour... my wife went to the bathroom and called me into the room, which was covered in insects... ceiling, bed, bathroom... hundreds of tiny bugs... we immediately called the desk and had someone come up to see for themselves... he seemed very shocked and offered to move us into the next room over (32)... after bustling our luggage over to the new room we again went to the balcony to relax... half an hour later we found this room totally over-run with the same insects (attracted by the lights?)... we again called the desk, and a different man came up, also "shocked"... he offered to move us further down the hall... when we inspected that room, there were already ten to twenty bugs visible... since it was already late and I knew it would be hard to find another room in the small town I elected to take a (much smaller) room on the first floor (12), which was (almost) bug free for the next day of our stay... the clerk eventually cut a chunk out of my bill to try to make up for the problem (still seeming shocked, though they had to be aware... while we were there we saw two other family groups hastily checking out for the same reason, the massive bug problem, all on third floor)... this is something they simply must address... even without the bugs the hotel was just ok... with the bugs it's not worth your time (imho)... Paranormal Destination: Given it's long history as a hospital with roughly 9000 dead over 50 years, plus numerous other deaths after it was abandoned, the Jerome Grand Hotel is an obvious magnate for ghost hunters and paranormal enthusiasts. Walking in the doors you get a sense of age and "weight"... walking the halls, going in and out of the various rooms... there's a heaviness that can't be explained away. My wife and I took the "Ghost Tour", which was great fun... we were given digital cameras, EMF meters, thermal spectrum meters, voice recorders... as a group (with the very helpful, knowledgeable guide) we went through every level of the hotel, going into some of the more storied and spookier rooms... after the tour we went off on our own as well... though we didn't experience anything specifically paranormal, my wife's phone kept being touch triggered (all night long... even when put to sleep mode)... all in all, as a paranormal destination, the Jerome Grand Hotel was fun and interesting... So, there you have it... the Jerome Grand Hotel was a mixed bag... the town of Jerome was awesome... if they can swear to fixing their bug problem (which may be seasonal), my wife and I would definitely return. read more

While this hotel has a neat atmosphere and history, it's probably one of the worst hotels stays I've had to date. We "lucked out" with the room closest to the stairs and elevator which was extremely loud. Obviously everyone retires here around 10-11 as that's when I woke up to loud talking and laughing. To top it off, I woke up to the power in our room being out, and it was extremely hot. I was able to open the windows, which would not stay open with out using my shoe to keep it propped. After using my phones flash light to find the phone, I tried to call the front desk which was suppose to be manned 24/7.... Surprise, no answer. My stay did get better with the man next to us snoring so loud I thought he was in my room. Oh, and don't forget the crowd of people outside talking until after midnight. I will NOT be staying here ever again, nor will I ever reccomend this hotel to anyone else! read more

I stayed here with my folks back in 2007; we sprung for a balcony room, and the spectacular views are well worth it. Of course, the main selling point of the hotel is its past as a hospital and the alleged ghosts knocking about. While we were inspecting our bathroom, the lights randomly went out, only to go back on a few minutes later. Faulty old wiring...OR IS IT??? My brother and I later went "ghost hunting" on the upper floors and strangely, none of the pictures I took of him posed in front of random objects, or of a creepy oil portrait of a young boy, were in focus. Cheap digital camera...OR IS IT??? The double room we had was narrow but spacious, with the two beds facing each other, just as in old-timey hospital days. (Our TV even had Cartoon Network, which was an unexpected surprise.) The ancient furnished elevator was incredibly cool, if predictably slow. And our meal at the adjoining Asylum restaurant was fantastic from start to finish. Only the parking situation is a bit wonky, but not enough for me to deduct any points. read more

At first my daughter and I were excited to stay at the hotel. After being put in room 11 that changed. Room 11 is right next to house cleaning, the restaurant, the stairwell, the elevator, the boiler room. The room is also right above the smoking area outside. If you stay here make sure the staff uses their common sense & do not put you in room 11. Next time we come to Jerome we most definitely will not be staying here. Most people will say "Well why didn't you just switch rooms?" Most people try to stick it out & hope things will get better or quiet down, like we did. If you come to Jerome I reccomend the smaller mom & pop hotels. Also out of all the places we ate while staying here, this is the only one that we didn't love. Steak wasnt prepared like we asked, and as soon as we declined booze and an appetizer the server was cold and practically ignored us. She even complained about me asking for more soda. read more

Last night my wife asked me if a noise we heard was a ghost. I thought about it, listened to the noise and told her, "no it's some lady getting her brains f'd out." That's the way it goes sometimes as a guest, it's possible to see and here what you want to hear good, perverted, or otherwise. Personally I don't want to see a ghost or mess with the dead in any way. Then again listening to the living have sex might be worse. Good interesting hotel though, it has a nice restaurant and a history most hotels would only dream about. So the rooms aren't the greatest but they are a good value and worth trying out as an alternative to pricey Sedona. read more

We stayed in one of the most haunted rooms - number 26. My daughter said she saw ghosts several times, and heard scratching sounds. I didn't see any haints (haunts) ... darn it! But the room was pretty comfortable and the atmosphere was really swell. The people working at the hotel were very nice, and made the stay enjoyable. The room price was pretty steep, but given this hotel is a special place to stay, I gladly paid it. The breakfast was included, but it wasn't much - you would be better off to walk down to the main street and eat something hot and delicious for breakfast. read more

Lovely. The hotel has maintained its early 20th decor and charm. You will not find anything that isn't 50-100 years old so be prepared for a step back in time. Checking in at the front desk will let you know you are in a time warp. You will get a physical key to your room! No cards or cell phone apps if you please. The room we stayed in had a sun porch where we enjoyed coffee in the morning. The room was very clean and well maintained. The bed was comfy and the room was blissfully quiet. This hotel is interesting. I know there is a lot of history here with rumors of paranormal experiences and sightings however we didn't find that to be the case. Frankly the bed was so comfortable that by the time I fell asleep a ghost would have had to hit me over the head with a 2x4 to wake me. The location is overlooking Jerome and the view is absolutely breathtaking. However during the evening you don't see much since the spectacular view is the mountain region and not city lights so you'll want to get there during the day so as not to miss it. The parking is a nightmare but frankly that's the story in Jerome so expect it and don't complain about it because there's nothing they can do about it. But again, try to get there in daylight because otherwise it's a bit tricky to get up the hill that only fits one car and whoever gets there first goes. The room was a standard, no frills. I liked that the shower and toilet & sink were separate so that two people could get ready at the same time. We didn't use the heat or the air because it wasn't needed in October. I mention this because its steam heat and some type of cooling system I was unfamiliar with but either way not really room controlled like newer hotels. So if that's a concern you may want to research that a bit. Although this hotel is older and a bit creaky I think that just adds to the experience. I can go on and on about the comfort of the bed and pillows and wished I had asked the brand before I left. They were THAT awesome. My friends that stayed in a different room didn't like that the bed was a double versus a king but I didn't mind it. The room was very large and could have accommodated a larger bed if the hotel had chosen to go that route. The furnishings looked antique although I'm not expert. The location was also good. The elevator is .......interesting. It's the old fashion kind where you open the door and gate then close it again. It felt sturdy and all and it was quite large too. The staff was helpful and very courteous. I enjoyed my stay at The Jerome Grand Hotel. One thing to note: I rated this hotel based on those in the area. I am not comparing it to a 5 star chain hotel where I might usually stay so keep that in mind. read more

Awesome hotel and extremely helpful staff!!! Highly recommended!!! We stayed in Room #26, the old hospital x-ray room. Nicely furnished room with comfy beds and a killer view of the valley below. The old radiator heaters worked like a charm, keeping the room nice and warm. Loved, loved, loved the old Otis Elevator and the overall atmosphere of the hotel. The antique decorated hallways and the restaurant were very nice. I can't speak highly enough of our experience. Also, the ghost cat slept at the foot of the bed and didn't bother us at all.... not to worry read more

Wife and I came here while on vacation in Sedona. Loved the history, layout and especially the employees. The lady in the gift shop was very informative about the Hotel itself. Holy amazingness! Not only is the hotel completely astounding, but the staff is awesome! My girlfriend and I went on the ghost tour with Chris which was informative, exciting, and fun! Having someone who has so much knowledge of the hospital/hotel's history, not to mention having lived in it as a child, show you around is a phenomenal experience. Chris and Bob were extremely helpful in providing us with additional information about the hospital and its former patients to intensify our stay. The Asylum, the hotel restaurant, is fantastic! Great food, spectacular service, and amazing ambience complete the experience. The bartender, Josh, and our server, Amber, were great! They went out of their way to make our night enjoyable. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and eating at the restaurant. Experiencing both together is absolutely necessary for any adventure seeker! read more

I don't believe in ghosts but this place did feel pretty creepy. (The Shining!!) We stayed two nights and I had to sleep with the lights on. My bag fell off the bedroom cabinet at exactly 2:00am..And my 26 y.o. niece who was in the other room also woke at exactly 2am. I'm 49 y.o. but it still got to me. The first night's rooms were okay, old, "antiquey", not so elegant (mtn view connecting rooms) but after a generous upgrade to two larger rooms at a lower rate on the 2nd night (Thanks 4p-12a front desk sir!), we ended up in a lovely 1st floor balcony room and "the old X-ray room" on the 2nd fl. This hotel used to be a hospital. And our room, room 26 on the 2nd floor, is where the bag "dropped"! ... Friendly staff, clean enough but could be better. This hotel is more atmosphere than elegance. Floors need to be recarpeted. Kinda grimey and worn. Fun location. read more

We stayed here the last week of March of 2017 It has quite a history. However, rooms are dated & over priced. Hotel bar & restaurant are good, menu needs updating. Ghost tours at hotel are $30 pp. seems like if you're a guest at hotel you'd get a break. Staff very friendly for the most part & helpful. read more

We stayed here because my bf really wanted to stay in a haunted hotel. We were okay with the haunted part, and took the tour as well. After the tour where we learned the story of our room 37 B we were a little more worried about the night. Then another guest explained her experience, then i was scared. Then we read reviews online! I was very scared to have a ghost experience. We didn't though, we "slept" with the lights and tv on. Now beyond the spiritual side of this, the room was okay. Obviously it was old, you can hear everything from every other room. The doors are old with a window above that can be opened or closed. There is no a/c in the room, it only comes in from that window above the door! The bed was supser soft, the bathroom was nice with a deep tub. The staff was as you would expect in a haunted hotel. read more

The very best thing about our stay was the awesome view off the 4th floor balcony. For the price, the room was pretty run down. The bed was to have been a queen which turned out to be a double. The furniture was nice antiques, not replicas. With no air-conditioning in the room, the transom over the door needed to be left open to cool the room so ANY noise in the hall carried. We were not disturbed by ghosts, only very inconsiderate ghost hunter wannabe's waking us up calling to them. The Asylum restaurant was very good. The cocktails were not consistent but the meal and service were great! read more

The Jerome Grand Hotel may not be a 5 star hotel, but it is a 5 star experience. The hotel staff was professional and friendly. They opened doors for us, gave us ideas where to dine, and told us ghost stories! We stayed in a one bedroom suite. Basically, it is two former hospital rooms connected by a bathroom and closet. The bedroom has a queen bed while the living room has a queen Murphy bed (i.e. a wall bed). Both rooms have small televisions with DirecTV Our room also has a small private sun porch with an amazing view of the town. The room was clean, comfortable, and had plenty of towels, blankets, and pillows for the four of us. The room was cold, but once the hotel staff showed us how to turn on the radiator the space became nice and warm. Both bed were comfortable with the bed in the bedroom being slightly more comfortable than the Murphy bed. As we love ghost stories we signed up for the ghost tour. Chris was our guide and he was wonderful. He has a great sense of humor and knows the history of the hotel better than most people know their own family! We were provided with our own ghost hunting tool (i.e. camera, EMF detector, or digital recorder). The tour was the perfect mix of history and haunts. Chris told us what each room use to be used for when the hotel was a hospital. Lucky for us, or not, a full body apparition had been seen in the room we stayed in which use to be part of the psych ward. After the tour we enjoyed a few appetizers at Asylum the on-site restaurant. The baked Brie and wings were excellent as was our server. He treated us as if we had ordered the most expensive item on the menu even though we only ordered appetizers. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel and look forward to visiting again soon! read more

I booked a room on the 3 rd floor with a balcony for my husbands birthday. We had reservations at the Asylum restaurant so we could enjoy a great meal and take the cool elevator ride back to our room after. The hotel was clean and funky with an over the top amount of halloween decor ( we went in October). It was awesome! The mattresses were very nice and the pillows, the showere worked and drained great. We had a wonderful time. read more

Very cool hotel. The old elevator is a treat to ride. Our room had a balcony which was a definite plus. You could tell great care was taken to keep as much of the room as original as possible, especially in the bathroom. The rooms are heated by old style radiators, so they are clanky but worked great. We ate at the asylum. Our waiter was great, and new a lot about Jerome and the hotels history. I would definitely go back again. read more
