A friend and I stayed here last October and were a little disappointed. We had gone to Jerome for one of the ghost tours before Halloween and wanted to make a whole spooky visit out of it and stay the night at the Grand. The hotel on its own is definitely a sight to see. It looks great sitting up at the top of the hill as you're winding your way through the small town. Having been an asylum in the past, we were expecting super spooky in October...and it would have been, had they not messed it up with cheesy, party store decorations! Instead of just relying on the hotel's history and usual appearance to create the atmosphere, they had decorations out front and inside. I think there were some sort of Halloween Simpsons characters outside, and I remember paper skeletons and spiders on the third floor where I was staying. It kind of ruined it for me. The restaurant, The Asylum, is very good, although perhaps a tad overpriced. Also, the service took forever that night. But I had eaten there few years before and enjoyed it very much, especially if you're there at sunset and can see the great view. Overall, I was really looking forward to my stay here and just ended up being a little disappointed. I wasn't counting on seeing actual ghosts, but I certainly wasn't paying to see the same paper ones that my grandmother decorates with at Halloween. I think the Grand is a cool place to visit in Jerome, but, if I go back, I'll probably stay elsewhere. read more

The charm factor of this place is through the roof! The guy who checked us in was so friendly explaining about the hotel's history and how to work the old-timey elevator. A balmy night on our balcony was beautiful. with a great view!. The Halloween decor is a bit over the top. We were in room 30 and we had no paranormal nocturnal activity. The older night desk guy not so friendly/helpful, he seemed much more into chatting with the tour guide than helping us as we stood at the front desk and waited to get his attention. Old hotels are not quiet, lots of banging/creaking of pipes and such. And keeping the room cool enough was not easy with no A/C and no fan. Keeping the transom above the door was suggested by the front desk, but that meant that we could hear our neighbors coming and going. Our room was not very clean-I found a (clear) rubber hair band left on the floor. The bed was squishy and the pillows too fluffy. The bathtub did not drain very quickly. But I loved the building and dinner at the restaurant was good. The bartender was friendly and we loved sitting at the old bar, but there was a lot of either Halloween kitch or just every day haunted hotel kitch (severed head on a platter, cobwebs, dismembered body parts). read more

This place is super creepy. It is supposedly one of the most haunted hotels in America. I thought that would be interesting but the overall feeling on the property is dark, sad and negative. The view of the Verde Valley was spectacular but the room was old, worn, nothing fancy and bed left me with a sore back. I was too tired to try to explore the ghost side of the hotel even though we were supposedly in one of the most haunted rooms. I did feel weird and creeped out and heavy and sad. Not how I want to feel when I travel! Might be o.k. to visit but don't recommend staying there. We also ate at the restaurant which was very o.k. and very expensive for what it was. read more

I stayed at the Grand Hotel with a few friends for my birthday...well, it wasn't a birthday treat, they just happened to be going there that weekend so I tagged along. The hotel is very interesting and old but not so scary. I have to say that the staff there is very patient because our group was hooting and hollering into the night after a whole bunch of drinks. The beds were comfy but the bathroom was a bit dated and I decided to do the splash bath in the sink, which was complicated as well since there is a different faucet for hot and cold water. All in all, I'm not a huge fan of tourist trap stuff but it was interesting. read more

I think this is the best place to stay the night in AZ. If at all possible get a room on the top floor overlooking the Verde Valley. It is an amazing view. I have stayed here twice, and never seen a ghost. Maybe I was here at the wrong time, but I am sure they are present ;) Grab a six-pack and sit on the balcony. It is a view that should not be missed. We had a great time when we stayed here "room 32" The staff was super friendly, the hotel was clean and the food was very good. One of the staff who was cleaning when we arrived took time out of his duties to give us a very detailed overview of the hotel, it's full history and all of the people who died there over the years. This was pretty cool as it scared the shit out of all the girls in our group as they settled into their rooms. We stayed up late drinking with another group on our floor and we walked around a bit looking for Casper. We did not find anything during our walk around but one couple in our group said the water in their room turned on while they were sleeping. If you are looking for a luxury resort style hotel do not stay here as it is a original building that was not designed for people who dress up their small dogs and carry them around in purses. This is a hotel for people who want to stay in a pretty creepy place that is authentic to its long history. We will be back .. read more

If you like buildings with character and a haunted history, the Grande Hotel is for you! Built originally as a hospital, the rooms were previously surgical suites, maternity rooms, hospice rooms and TB wards through its history. The place is near the top of the mountain looking down onto Jerome and the valley below and has breathtaking views. The staff are very helpful and friendly and are one of the hotel's greatest assets. The beds are very comfortable and we slept great! As with all older hotels I have stayed at the room is not as sound proofed from hallway noise as compared to newly constructed hotels so beware if you are a light sleeper. The original Otis elevator is still in operation and you can use it to get to the upper floors which was a real treat! Will visit again! read more

Absolutely amazing experience. The staff was so genuinely kind and helpful that it felt more like being welcomed by family than staff. We stayed in room 28C which was gorgeous, spacious, with a wrap around view, clean clean clean as can be, elegant furniture, accommodating bathroom and comfy bed. The light breakfast was impressively scrumptious as well. All around we had a top notch experience. I highly recommend this hotel. read more

Nice place but let me fill you in its a haunted hotel if you you go get room 32 it's The suicide room 3 just since its been a hotel also when we showed up a gentlemen was just coming back he and his wife stayed in that room and got in a huge fight and he left her there for two days just came back for her but she changed rooms Also someone was decapitated in the elevator. It's not a top of the line hotel its old but great character it is something that was built back in The 1920s then vacant for 44 years. Bed was very comfortable the room was clean. We got a room with a balcony and that was awesome can sit out enjoy a glass of wine and take it all in. We enjoyed the place. Worth the experience. Make sure you have a whole day to walk down town the streets roll up at 5 ish all but the bars.the spirit room bar has open mic night in the evening lots of locals it was pretty fun just make sure you eat first no food read more

Had the craziest haunting experience!!! Jerome Grand Hotel never disappoints! I've been here many times and the staff are amazing and take the time to tell you all of their experiences! We spoke with the cleaning staff and front desk and told them of our experiences. I've stayed several times but the only experiences I've encountered always happen in the suites. This time around I found my friends stuff on the floor, it was originally on the night stand with the rest of our stuff. The very next morning in that same corner the stuff was found I woke up around 5:30 a.m. and heard a women say, "Oh" and a minute later she said "mmm" and I heard a step in front of my bed. I was so scared I went into the suite living room and my friend told me all night she kept hearing a women say "mmm" and moving around on the couch. The previous stay (about 6 years ago) in the other suite I woke up around 3 a.m. to a feeling of being watched, and it was coming from the corner of the room. Someone wanted us to know they were there! It was a friendly feeling, each time the experience has been friendly. read more

The hotel is cool and there's lots to explore, but really for the price I paid, they could have at least made some upgrades. I understand that the hotel is very, very old and does not have A/C, which is fine. But in order to have the evap cooler work to it's full potential, I had to leave a window cracked open. Our room was above the main entrance (#10) and everyone would go outside to smoke and the smoke came into our room. Also, we were next to the Asylum which means I could hear dishes crashing. The evap cooler was so loud I couldn't sleep and I couldn't hear the TV. The TV was a small 19" old school color TV with static. Of course I am sure we were not suppose to be watching TV but out exploring, but I had kids who wanted to watch TV. The beds were just regular motel beds, much like those in Motel 6. They were not "hotel" beds. OK, here's the fun part. We got to walk all around the hotel and be curious. We were allowed to explore and wander and loiter. The staff was so friendly and guests were too. The views were breath-taking and at night it's a real fun place to sit back and drink a glass of wine. I recommend going without children, there's not much for them to do. This is a getaway trip and Jerome doesn't need to be an overnight stay. This is a tourist attraction so everything is way over-priced and amenities are little. read more

This place is amazing! Nice clean hotel, super friendly staff (this is the first place I've been to that the cleaning crew actually greated me). The rooms are a classic look with a modern upgraded feel of comfort. We took the ghost tour and it was incredibly informative and a bit spooky. But honestly, the tour was a tad too touristy. I like ghost hunting with 2-3 or 4 people, there was like 15 of us constantly flashing out cameras everywhere. But I did however see things before taking pictures. I really want to see ghosts but everytime I think I see something, I debunk it afterwards. Seriously though, this place takes care of you and if the most friendly of all hotels I have been to. And everything is a hill climb from the hotel which is good if your into exercise. And plenty of parking. read more

My husband and I went up north to Sedona and Jerome this past weekend for a getaway. We booked the room about a month in advance online and paid when we got there. The hotel is quaint and has a wonderful view that leaves you breathless! The only drawback we had was that the other guests on our floor were loud and obnoxious considering that this is a historic hotel and you can hear everything that goes on in the hallway. People were shouting, banging on doors and walking around in their pajamas like they owned the place. Plus, there is no discount for hotel guests at the restaurant that is located in the hotel (but we won't get into that story -- read my review on the Asylum), but the hotel service was great as well as the adventure. read more

We were extremely happy with our stay. I am a breastfeeding Mama and needed to refrigerate my pumped milk and the staff was MORE then accommodating, understanding, and kind. They also allowed us late check out which was much appreciated. I will highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Jerome. We stayed and took the ghost tour. Unfortunately a flock of drunk idiots who accompanied us on the tour, ruined it for just about everyone. There really should be a rule against acting like a complete idiot during a paid tour like that. It was basically $60 down the drain. The staff was friendly. The room was interesting but it was incredibly hot at night. (Like you will wake up sweating) it was late September when we stayed so keep that in mind. To be fair: did not stay here but had dessert and looked around/toured. Old old creepy beautiful hotel. We would come back to Jerome and stay here(entire town is awesomely perched on a hillside), but I have lots of concerns about the age of the rooms,plumbing etc. Its one thing for the common areas to retain their aged charm, quite another to deal with dated accommodations. Dessert was yum. Definitely imagine dinner to be a treat. Service was great. Lots of tourists going in and out but the staff totally maintained their composure throughout. read more

My son and I had an incredible time at this boutique hotel. The dive to Jerome was well worth it, scary, but worth it. We checked in and the staff was super friendly and explained everything to us (manual elevator, etc.) and we were put in room 37b. This is an absolutely beautiful hotel and it is most definitely haunted. We had many paranormal interactions during our one night stay. The hotel staff also gave my son a copy of the death certificate and a letter from the 24 year old girl's family...she lost her life after jumping to her death from the window in room 37b. What can you say about this hotel. It is old and historic. We stayed in the famous room #32. Our TV turned off while we were watching and heard some strange noises later that night while we were sleeping. Check the mirrors in the bathroom if you stay in this room. Our room faced the Verde valley and the views were spectacular. It's a cool experience but the rooms are outdated and small. It's certainly worth it to say you have stayed. read more

This is a very nice place to stay. I also paid extra for a balcony room on the third floor and we were so pleased to be able to sit out on the balcony drinking wine or enjoying the coffee offered in the morning. The room was clean and decent. The bathroom was large and the tub was actually quite large. I have heard others complain about rude staff and unreasonable noise rules, we didn't experience that at all. The staff was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. Also, the hotel wasn't very loud and we had no problems with noise from other guests. All you have to do is close the upper windows above the doors and you can't hear others and they can't hear you; not a hard concept. As for ghosts, the third floor is supposed to be the best for it. We didn't see any but on Saturday night both my husband and I felt constantly nervous, anxious, sad and had a rough night sleeping. The spirits of the psych ward? Maybe, but it wouldn't keep us from coming back. :) A very nice stay, very comfortable and the views are unbeatable. read more

I watched a man scream at a woman and children on Sunday. Tear up her reservation in her face because his employee gave out wrong information. He refused to call said employee, refused to work with her but instead acted like something I've never seen in the hospitality industry. I've had better service at a super 8. He called her a liar, crazy and threatened to call the cops. All while 4 teenage girls stand surrounding her with cupcakes and presents in hand. They charge quite a bit to stay here, the guy looked like he dressed at the local goodwill, acted like he received training by processing inmates at the local jail and really just didn't give a crap about ruining a girls birthday and leaving them stranded with no place to stay. Sad. My recommendation, spend your many elsewhere. I have traveled all over this country, stayed in hotels, motels and resorts. Never in my life have I seen such a poor display of human behavior by the owner of this hotel ( that's what he said, he was the owner, his hotel) let alone from a place of hospitality. HOSPITALITY! Yelling at women and young girls is pretty gross behavior in general. read more

Very cool hotel with lots of character. Enjoyed the old elevator and all the old decorations. For being as old as it is I feel the hotel was kept up very well would return again. Had dinner at the Asylum restaurant in the hotel. We all had different things and all 4 meals were good. Was overpriced, but guess when you are probably the nicest place in town you can charge a lot. Free continental breakfast was a little lacking. Just packaged danish, bagels, and coffee. No OJ had to pay for that. And didnt have any ghostly experience. read more

The restaurant, interestingly enough operated independently, is fabulous. Do not expect the amenities of a modern upscale hotel, but be prepared to take a step back in time as you operate the original elevator and enjoy the relaxed pace of Jerome. read more

The AC is in the hall so you must leave the transom open which lets in light and sound. We cracked ours to keep the room dark and ended up sweating all night. I also was so freaked out after reading the many stories in the guest book that I slept with one eye open. There are definitely spirits lurking around this place. Horrible stay! Booked for two nights and left after the first! Paid $230 bucks for a balcony room. Room was adequate old dirty carpet stuff on floor and mismatched dirty goodwill furniture on patio. Kids and adults yelled and screamed from approx 930 pm to almost 2am! Staff did nothing to stop it. They tell you to pick up your phone and call them yet they never answer! Jerome and the asylum restaurant was great. Nothing Grand about this hotel! It could be a gem but currently run as a turd! Do your research visit the hotel but stay anywhere else! Clearly management is more concerned with pocketing money versus ensuring this truly is a grand hotel. UPDATE: got an email from Sarah Moser general manager who on que dismissed all my claims. She stated her staff told her I told them not to go up to my floor and check for noise. Why would I go down three flights of stairs to complain if I wanted nothing to be done? Doesn't make sense! She blamed an antique phone system on the fact no one answered. A simple apology and a little empathy for what occurred goes a long way! Now it makes sense you lead people by example. I see where the staff is getting their example. A piss poor GM who knows nothing of Customer Service. read more

Beautiful old hotel. Everyone was very friendly. Even though we had no sightings (room 10) we were spooked all night. Staff encourages you to explore the hotel and that is exactly what we did. Location at the top of the hill provides stunning views of the valley. I want to return. read more
