We chose this historic hotel based on location directly on Whiskey Row. We got luckily and found a great parking spot on the street so it was nice to be able to leave our vehicle parked for the weekend and just walk everywhere. There was a slight hiccup during check-in since we booked the room through a 3rd party site but the staff were friendly and quickly fixed the issue. The room was small but perfect for a quick weekend getaway for two. Our room faced Whiskey Row Alley but we never ran into issues with noise at night. The best part of this hotel - The Bistro! It was so good we ended up eating there 3 times. The food was delicious and the drinks were refreshing. Overall, it was a good experience. You really can't beat the location. We've already decided we will stay here again next time we are in town. read more

This quaint hotel is right in the middle of the famous Whiskey Row block, within walking distance to everything! One important point to make, should anyone be disabled, is that the elevator is currently out of order (March 2025) & based on previous reviews, has either been so for quite a while or is out of order now & then. This is huge for those that are disabled as we stayed on the 2nd floor (no first floor rooms) & there were approximately 30 stairs to get to our room, not a problem for us but it definitely would be for those that have disabilities. The hotel staff is wonderful! From check-in to check-out & a few inquiries in between about restaurants, etc. all of the staff, including the hotel cleaning/maintenance crew, were very friendly & helpful! One note is that if you eat in the St. Michael Bistro or have a drink in The Lobby Bar, your credit card will be billed as St. Michael. I was a bit confused about extra charges as St. Michael but quickly figured it out, not a problem. Our room with a window view was great, a bit cozy but if you're like us, we weren't in it much, too much to do in the great outdoors of Prescott! While staying there, it was a bit chilly, even snowed one day/night & the lowest temp was 26* but we enjoyed having the window open, as opposed to using the a/c. The fresh air was nice & what seemed like very light bedding, was amazingly perfect! The decor of the room & the cozy bathroom was great, I'm a fan of western decor! The hotel & the rooms were kept impeccably clean! As part of the hotel itself there is a great Bistro with amazing food, The Lobby Bar with live entertainment on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights & the BEST bartender that we've ever met, Heather! We loved Heather as well as a few regular locals that come to the bar, by the time we left, we felt like locals ourselves! There are also a few cool shops within the halls of the hotel that you'll want to check out. My husband is a history buff & we were told by several people about the Sharlot Hall Museum, just a quick walk down the street from the hotel. It's on a 4-acre plot of land with several original houses built back in the late 1800s, early 1900s, a schoolhouse, & various other buildings. In most of the buildings is a volunteer that will answer any questions you may have, my husband kept them very busy, lol! The displays & info is quite extensive & I thoroughly enjoyed it. Your price of admission is small & it gives you two days to see it, this came in handy for us because we went a little later in the day & due to my talkative hubby, we had to come back the following day to finish the tour. Another point of interest is right on Whiskey Row, the Western Heritage Center. Lots of volunteers dressed up in the late 1800s/early 1900s attire and full of info about the displays! They will greet you but if you prefer to not have them "bug" you, they won't. However, once again, hubby attached himself to Linda & she just casually walked the center with us answering his questions & offering up stories from back in the day, it was a lot of fun! Of course Whiskey Row itself has some great history & The Palace Bar, in the middle of the block is a must, whether you choose to eat there, grab a drink or just mosey on thru, it's one of the most historical places in town due to a very well known fire that hit the entire block in 1900. Of course the beauty of Prescott is amazing all over the area but this particular stay, we just chose to park our car in the free parking garage and enjoy the surrounding town square area for the four nights that we were there. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this charming small town. I visited for New Year's with a couple of friends, and we had an amazing experience. The hotel has a wonderful old-school rustic charm, rich in history, with a vintage-style elevator that adds to its character. Although I was only here for a couple of days, I will definitely be returning. Downstairs, there's a lovely bistro restaurant serving delicious food, and a cozy lounge area where you can enjoy drinks or some of the best hot cocoa. I also discovered a hidden speakeasy beneath the hotel--unfortunately, only as I was leaving! Plus, right next door, there's a delightful bakery. I can't wait to come back! read more

The staff was very friendly and the hotel/room was clean and charmingly decorated. There are the usual complaints associated with historic hotels: mediocre water pressure and overly soft bed. Those weren't unexpected. But there were several surprises that were disappointing. First, the elevator was inoperable, a major issue for seniors like us that was never mentioned in the numerous emails they sent before arriving, nor on their website. We did get help with suitcases, but they had to "find somebody." The elevator had obviously been broken for weeks to months, so you think they would have dedicated staff to help. Plus, just trudging up and down three steep flights was no fun. Next, when we asked why our room wasn't cleaned, they informed us that cleaning was "by request only." No mention at check-in, nor on the website, nor in the room. Finally, the Bistro (their main restaurant) closed for renovations for over a week. Again, no mention in emails nor on website. Again, all the staff were very nice, but I fault management for not disclosing these issues up front. There are several other historic hotels nearby, so we'll stay at one of those the next time we're in Prescott. read more

My friend and I met halfway for a talking, shopping, eating, and drinking expedition in Prescott. No parking is available other than public parking structure a block away. We walked through the bistro, but there's a side door from Gurley St. which has several steps up to the front desk, but later we found the ramp leading to the lobby on the side of the building. Sadly, the elevator was out of order, and our third floor rooms required some exertion to reach. You can feel Prescott's 5,400 ft. elevation, but they immediately brought our luggage up for us. The cheapest rooms are tiny, but my classic queen room was large, with a walk-in closet! and new carpet. The a/c works greatand the room quiet since it faced into an inner courtyard, not the park and Whiskey Row. Service was friendly, and they gave us $2 off coupons for the beautiful, spacious bar lounge filled with comfy leather furniture, and separate from the bistro. read more

My husband and I have been coming to this hotel for 30 years. The hotel is very conveniently located in the heart of Prescott. It is an easy walk to good restaurants, bars and shops. The hotel has been recently renovated. The public spaces in particular are greatly improved. Hotel St. Michaels apparently has had a change of ownership. Their website indicates an affiliation with Springboard Hospitality, which has partner hotels across the country. In January 2025 a hotel employee said the Ortega family bought the hotel; she said the Ortegas own a giftshop in town and another business in Sedona. A hotel employee told me that all the St. Michael's guest rooms had been renovated. Our usual room has been redesigned with new furniture with an upscale Western ranch feel. I had no problem with the hotel's previous vintage furniture, but some people prefer new unscratched furniture. Our room did not include a built-in heater, and we were visiting in January. I get cold easily. The front desk provided us a space heater and 2 extra blankets, and we were comfortable. We are not used to being here in the winter, although we have gone to December's Acker night. The room has a window air conditioner for summer cooling. Brilliantly, the hotel converted the first floor former banquet area into a lounge that is always open, although the limited bar is not always open. The Lounge Bar is a wonderful space and a great improvement. It creates a comfortable spacious sitting area with lots of windows, a fireplace, comfortable wingback chairs and coffee tables. I think it is open to the public. In its basement the hotel created the Fire & Sword Speakeasy with an extremely extensive alcohol menu. One person can order wine, another beer, another shots, another a cocktail. The speakeasy is large with plenty of seating. The speakeasy is open to the public. Live music is offered in both the first floor Lobby Bar and the speakeasy, but apparently on different schedules. Thankfully the Lobby Bar ends live music at 8:00 so it won't disturb guests's sleep. The Fire & Sword music apparently begins after the Lobby Bar music ends. I don't know which days of the week offer music. We had a very good dinner within the hotel in Bistro St. Michael, open to the public. We shared a Caesar salad, Brisket and chicken Florentine. Both meats were very tender. The macaroni and cheese side had a nice smoky flavor. The potato side came with a nice sauce. Our server Sandy gave us enough plates, silverware and napkins so we could share everything. The ambiance is very nice. I rate the restaurant a 5. After dinner in the hotel's Bistro St. Michael, we went across the hall to the Lobby Bar. We arrived after live music ended at 8. The Lobby Bar server said I could order from the Bistro menu. I ordered tea. Light jazz was playing, but not loud. The ambiance was quiet and very nice since the crowd went downstairs to the speakeasy. The next morning we went back to the Lobby Bar to read. I don't think a server was on duty. We bought some coffee from Grama's Bakery (next door) and enjoyed the lovely sunny room read more

Hotel St. Michael has been around for a long time. I travel to Prescott about 4 times per year and this is an easy place to stay. Their rates are very reasonable although they do fill up at times so reserve in advance. The rooms are just fine - clean and nice. I ask for a room off of the main street so that I don't hear the Whiskey Row noise. In the morning, they get their coffee started early which I completely appreciate. I scoot down to the lobby for a cup. The staff at the desk are always very nice and have great recommendations about new places to try for a drink or a meal. They also have parking at a nearby garage which is free and that's really nice because it can be hard to find a place to park in Prescott. I know that they are redoing the bistro but I've had excellent breakfasts there. I recommend that also. Solid place to stay with good service. read more

Updated, I think 8 months ago I was just excited to see it after being closed for 2 years due to the unscientific and Draconian COVID lockdowns. Went back today and realized this place is just a shell of its former self. Food was bland and uninspiring, the food is mostly deep fried and cafeteria quality. The staff certainly don't have the flair or personality of the former pre- Covid staff. It felt depressing there, the only thing they can milk is that historic location. They are just going through the motions, food quality is barely average now, sorry to say. Won't be back, too many other good places around now. Ugh, shame. read more

This hotel was kinda fun and kinda a pain in the ass. It's super old, cool. It has a great bar and bistro, awesome. It has three stories that you have to either hike or take an old timey elevator. The staff at the front desk were super cool. No ice machines so u have to hike all the way down when u need it. It's connected to lots of shops and has a darling shopping area. Our view was of a brick wall. The rooms are smallish and they have those farm doors for the bathroom that doesn't leave much privacy. The bathroom fan doesn't shut off so we had to listen to it the entire time. Overall it was fun but think I will try something else on my next visit to Prescott. read more

The way in the hotel Lobby is in St Michael's Alley passageway from parking bldg. Or up Gurley to the main door. This is a unique 100 year old hotel. Very vintage. We ll be here two nights. Yes the prices are pretty steep but luckily we were staying in one of the recently remodeled rooms. It was very nice. The staff was so friendly. There were no fridges in the room but the front desk offered to hold our leftovers and even heat them up for us in the middle of the night. Great location with many shops and restaurants in walking distance. Would stay here again. read more

For 160 bucks a night I figured I wouldn't be greeted by pee in the toilet The room is extremely small. The AC I very noisy I thought this place would be a whole lot nicer. The rooms are TERRIBLE and with only 15 guest in the hotel according to the front desk you think you would have a better room than one with a nice view of the building main ac, I guess you need to top 200 for a street view. I'm sorry but I just had to leave this hotel and head straight to Walgreens to get allergy medications with my eyes swollen and itchy after I stayed here for two nights. Carpet FULL of dust probably bc they don't vacuum - from the looks of it, for months. We opened the window and all the dust inside went flying everywhere - it was appalling and frankly a slap in the face to pay that much for a place that doesn't mind their customers are subjected to that. The hotel itself is cool and the people were very nice, but seriously if you cannot do noise and I mean, serious noise, do not stay here. I had earplugs in and these are swimmers earplugs so they're very solid and I could still hear the music through them and the base was shaking our room until 2AM!! I guess our first clue should've been the earplugs the hotel left in our room. Again, if you want to stay here because of location just ask if you're farther away from the back side of the hotel although I'm not sure it would help. read more

I was disappointed by this hotel, particularly for the price tag. I have stayed in many old hotels, even those older than this, and they are fantastic on the inside with modern features. I love the charm of an old hotel, but by "old" I don't mean retro - The took itself felt more like a Days Inn from the early 80s. 1980, kids. The furniture was old and beat up, the carpet felt weird, and I'm pretty sure my parents had the same ceiling fan in the living room when I was 6. I had read the hotel was "recently renovated," but maybe that just meant since Wyatt Earp spent the night. But the bed was comfortable. That's something. (To counter the limited hot water, I suppose.) To give it credit, the staff was super friendly, even when we returned home late and witnessed some horribly drunk fools. Also, we weren't visited by ghosts. That's a plus. The location is the selling feature. It is right on Whiskey Row and perfectly walkable. They offer ear plugs to drown out noise, but the 1980s wall unit will blow loud enough to drown out gun shots if need be. The price really is inflated. It was nearly $200/night for a $50 room. They do offer breakfast, but there's no way to not buy that, which sucks because we don't eat bacon and eggs. In the end, it has some neat historic charm but needs and internal makeover something serious. read more

I'm an old man who was by myself and asked her why she would be starting off the check in with that speech. She was like well we have whiskey alley nearby and a lot of people come back drunk and get boisterous and rude. Haven't even made it here yet and already I'm not happy with this hotel. I made my reservation in January for an end of April stay and they now called to tell me my king room will be under construction. When asked if every king room is under construction they said "no, just certain ones". They said mine was assigned to me in advance. So someone who may have booked their king room last week gets a king but because I made my reservation months in advance, I get kicked out. I guarantee they raised the rates since I booked and can get more money now for a king room. Really crappy way to run a "top tier" hotel. read more

Covid precautions compliant establishment: This was our first stay ever in Prescott and we enjoyed it thoroughly. St. Michael's is a very rustic and historic feel even as you approach it from the sidewalk and as you walk through its hallways. Historic hotel located at the start of Whiskey Row in Prescott. The building is at least 100 years old but our room was updated with Victorian style furniture and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in while traveling. The building is fun to explore the winding halls and what I believe was the first elevator in the state of AZ because Prescott used to be the state capital. You may need to fact check me on the elevator fact but it makes the story better. I have read that the 3rd floor is believed to be haunted by a lady of the night. I did not have any paranormal experience but with the age of the building and the history of the area immersed in Western and mining culture I don't doubt the fable one bit. The lower level is home to a restaurant Bistro St. Michael which was pretty good for the two breakfasts we enjoyed there. Also in the area are several small shops with art and craft souvenirs available. Shops close early. The one downfall of our stay was the rotary meeting that took place on a Weds morning and when people were speaking into a microphone the sound travelled through the floorboards and woke us up. Not fun after trying to spend the night on whiskey row. I would stay here again. Enjoy! read more
