My second time there. I have to give it a 4 star due to the fact there was problems at check in. And the front desk person was being difficult even after explaining. It did turn out fine and our stay was just as enjoyable. I did speak to the gm Sarah that following am. I still highly recommend this hotel. Could be the "Best hotel in Jerome" because it almost the only hotel in Jerome. The Grand is a comfortable place to stay. Look, it's OLD so expect there are a few bumps and bruises but that is the character and the charm of the place. It is old but it is clean. The staff is very friendly and love talking about the history. Great views on the valley side. The rooms with valley side balconies are worth the extra nightly rate. I'd recommend requesting a room not on the 1st floor. The Asylum Restaruant, no owned by the hotel, uses the 1st floor hallway to run their meals from kitchen to restaurant and it is very noisy until about 10PM. If you are staying in Jerome I recommend staying at the Grand. Beware, GPS the correct address or maps will take you to the wrong "Grand". read more

The restaurant is closed due to COVID but they told us that before we made the reservation. We specifically booked because of what we were told over the phone about how wonderful our trip would be with being able to see the boiler room and receive some sort of tour inside the hotel. After spending over $1000 on the room and ghost hunting supplies we were denied a tour. After being lied to and told we were not able to do anything one of the members in our group happened to be walking through the lobby while she witnessed one of the staff members from the front desk actually giving an older couple a tour of the boiler room that we were asking about, We were very upset to learn that after telling to us and our group of six people, that we witnessed them taking someone inside the basement door. Of course after that they immediately ran up to our group and said they were able to take us a few feet inside the boiler room. That was also a very disappointing because you were only able to step inside the room a few feet. They did tell us if we wanted to leave we had 30 mins to do so, but being two hours away from home and all other hotels booked we were stuck with nowhere to go. I was hoping some sort of discount would have been applied after expressing our disappointment but no we were charged full price $600. I thought they had decided to refund our money because it went back in my account but this morning it has been taken out of my account. Very upsetting. Definitely will NOT recommend and will share our experience so hopefully someone else doesn't show up disappointed. If your looking for a ghost adventure I suggest bisbee Arizona such a better experience!! So instead of receiving a comment from the hotel regarding how we were lied to and how they can do anything to fix our horrible experience... They decide to comment about the tours being discontinued years ago when that in fact is NOT what I was told over the phone when I booked the trip!!! you're basically confirming that you did take the $600 even after the horrible trip. I've been here a few times and it's always been great. I love staying in a historic place such as this. The staff is always great. The rooms have always been clean and taken care of. I wish I could stay here more often. I'm planning a trip up soon. I love how well they keep this place. I love that they keep the old feel to it. It definitely sticks up to the creepy factor. People say it's haunted and I believe it is for sure. While staying here you get the feeling of a different presence. I've witnessed a couple weird noises and stuff. So it's a fun place to go. We loved everything about this hotel! From the gorgeous antiques, the incredibly kind and helpful staff and overall ambience of the place was perfect. My teenage son loved hunting ghosts in the stairwells and exploring every inch of this historic place. Other guests invited us in their room as my son had a "ghost hunting device" and was happy to help explore their rooms as well. Enjoyed lunch at the Asylum restaurant with a very pleasant waitress. The menu has changed since my last visit and a little pricey for what you get. Maybe why it was extremely easy to walk in and get seated without a reservation. View is amazing. In the past we were allowed to go past the rest rooms, actually encouraged to go look around, and take the elevator down to the lobby. Now there is a sign reading "only registers guests". We were told to go to the lobby to have a look. Last visit to the lobby, we were greeted with a friendly face and were encouraged to look around and take a look at the photo album that was kept by patrons who have shared stories & pictures of their experiences at the hotel. This visit not so much. We were told we could look around the lobby & gift store but no go on looking at the rest of the hotel - for registered guests only. I asked how would I know if I wanted to stay here without a peek and was told I could look at their brochure or online pictures. Their photo album was also online now, not kept in the lobby. I get the whole "registered guest" thing, but the "greeter" could of offered to show us around, there were two ladies working the desk and the place was not busy. This was a complete 360 from our last visit, and I won't be talking up the hotel or showing visitors this unique experience now that there has been an apparent change in how the place operates. This was our second time staying at the Jerome Grand Hotel. This time, we took the kids (10 & 14), who were super excited and hoping to experience "something"! Our first stay here,about a year ago, we did hear a very loud cat screech after 10 minutes of being in our room. This time, nothing The kids were so disappointed, but it was still extremely fun and really spooky. The front desk staff is amazing and very informative. I agree with a previous review that stated the scariest thing about this hotel is the smell. That and the water - it was so nasty yellow/brown that my wife refused to even brush her teeth with it. She took a picture of the bathtub and posted it to Facebook it was so scary. It is quite evident that an absolute minimum was done to turn this place into a hotel from an insane asylum/hospital. The Asylum restaurant/bar was "interesting" - at least they had Nimbus old monkeyshines on tap. Very mediocre service. The acorn squash soup lived up to the favorable reviews. Lesson learned - if a hotel advertises itself as "haunted" it more than likely sucks. I can not possibly recommend this hotel to anyone. Repeat customers must be non-existent. Stay in Prescott or Cottonwood if you are needing to stay somewhere when visiting Jerome. read more

A great weekend staycation! I've been wanting to stay at the Grand Hotel for years. Such nice staff and great food at the Asylum. The hotel is super eerie especially the old elevator. We stayed in room 44 with a nice balcony and view of the mountain. Only suggestion to you Larry is to get a new mattress for the room. This one is a taco. We very much enjoyed our stay, very historic and antique hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I definitely appreciated the makeup remover and mouth wash they had available in the room, I don't believe I've ever stayed at a hotel where that has been offered, very neat. We stayed in room 27 with the mountain side balcony. While I was sitting on the bed and my husband was standing on the carpet we both heard a loud footstep from near the shower, which the shower and toilet are on opposite sides of the room. Other than that we didn't experience anything ghostly. Jerome is a lovely town and our stay at this hotel was perfect walking distance. We were allowed to check in early that was much appreciated. I am giving it 3 stars for: - very clean rooms - great view from the hotel - friendly and helpful staff members They don't have A/C, just windows (with no screens) that you can open and a ceiling fan to switch on. The rooms are pretty simple with no 'homey' or 'welcoming' touches.. ie, they are definitely a bit on the somber/haunted side. Same with the bathrooms... Also, you can hear everything in the hallways and on other floors through the walls. I appreciate the history and the preservation of that, but if you are like me and like historic/vintage but with a welcome/homey/feel-cozy touch, this is not your place.. just giving you a heads up. Definitely take the Jerome Ghost Hunting Tour offered on Tuesday & Thursday nights. "Mile high" on Cleopatra Hill, it's the only National Historic Landmark Hotel in the entire Verde Valley. The 30,000 square foot fireproof state-of-the-art hospital was constructed for the United Verde Mining Company in 1927. It is an engineering marvel, even by today's standards, as it was constructed on a 50-degree slope. Also look for the white "J" carved into the mountain, which was a project of the Jerome High School Class of 1921. read more

This grand old hotel that was once a hospital, gets more beautiful every time we visit because of all the work they are putting into it. From wide hallways brimming with antiques and old photos, high celings in the room, and even steam heat that works almost too well, we love historic places like this. The hotel towers over cute little artsy Jerome, and looks kind of like the Grand Budapest Hotel with its new paint job. At 5200 ft, it can get cool in the winter, and there was snow along Mingus Mt. Road if you wind up from Prescott as we did in February, so the steam heat was welcome in the large bedroom and bathroom. We had room 20 which is much larger than 22 and is at the end of the hall with a spectacular valley view, and no ghost activity that we noticed. I did here a ghostly sigh in the stairwell and you expect to see ghosts in the old style elevator. The front desk is friendly and fun, and there is a little giftshop with a little contintental breakfast available for hotel guests. The bedding is comfy, rooms are clean and have everything you expect these days-shampoo, hair dryer and large cable tv. In addition you get historical ambiance that you can not get from a chain hotel. The hallways and plumbing can be noisy, but I get that at all kinds of hotels, and this place is definitely worth the journey. We plan to stay here again sometime and do the train out of Clarkdale, and of course eat at the Asylum Restaurant again. read more

This former hospital turned hotel is perched high above Jerome (5,240 ft above sea level). When the hospital opened in 1927, it was considered state-of-the-art. However as mining operations began shutting down, the hospital shuttered its doors in 1950. The building remained unused for the next 44 years. In 1994 the Jerome Grand Hotel was born. It was the last major building built in Jerome and it was not only constructed of poured-in-place concrete, but also at a 50-degree slope on solid bedrock up against Mingus Mountain. The original 1926 Otis self-service elevator is still in use. Because it was designed for hospital use, it moves slower than the modern elevators we're all used to, but it was fun to take step back into time with this almost 90-year old lift. Supposedly the hotel is haunted with a number of poltergeists, but we didn't experience any paranormal incidents during our weekend stay. We found out later that the room we stayed in (# 12) was Claude Harvey's room. Claude was the hotel's maintenance man who was found pinned under the Otis elevator in 1935, presumably murdered. Hotel staff and guests have reported seeing Claude roaming the stairwells and in the boiler room. Rooms are small, but serviceable, decorated in period decor. We opted for the 'valley view' which looked out over the Verde Valley, and we could see the Douglas Mansion and the city of Jerome. The front desk staff was very welcoming and friendly, and ready to answer any questions about the hotel or Jerome. We were surprised after a day of exploring, and coming back to our room early afternoon, that it had not been made up. On our way back out, we inquired about it and was told housekeeping usually gets the rooms done around 4 p.m. unless we made a request to have it done sooner. Didn't matter to us, but it did seem late to us. We also had a burned out light bulb, so we took it out & placed it under the fixture, thinking it would be replaced when we came back. That didn't happen. Just a couple of areas I think the hotel needs to work on. The biggest drawback of Room #12 (other than potentially seeing Claude's spirit!), is the noise of the rolling dish carts back and forth from the Asylum Restaurant to the kitchen. If we were to stay here again, I would specifically request to be on another floor. To access the hotel, watch for the small sign that has a picture of a hand pointing up. The drive up to the hotel is narrow and steep. (If you miss it, you're on the curvy 2-lane mountain road with few places to turn around.) There is limited parking in front of the hotel, but they do have spaces as you approach the hotel, and directly past the hotel. The good news is, unless you are taking in some of the nearby attractions like the Douglas Mansion, main street Jerome is within walking distance. Be mindful that the Jerome Grand is an historic building, and doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. We had an enjoyable experience - even without any ghost sightings!! read more

My group of friends and I stayed at the JGH the weekend of April 23rd staying in spacious room 10. (Set up of room 10- Two- double beds are placed across the room from each other with a small table and 2 chairs between with plenty of open floor space. The room is long and skinny. Only the two windows open but the 2 large doors that do not open, still provide a great view of the valley. Bathroom is updated and nice and the closet which is rather large with a shelf contained extra pillows and blankets.) After check in, we explored the hotel and grounds and had all our questions answered by the front desk, who also continued to be informative and patient as the night went on every time my friends and I had questions about hotel. The gift shop is nice, and can buy bottled drinks for $2.00 but coffee/tea are provided and free. Hotel provides: Free continental breakfast Free Wi-Fi Free parking Free (and nice selection) of toiletries in rooms Board games to check out from the front desk Gift shop next to front desk Restaurant is open until 9PM on weekends and the entrance (grand staircase is the main entrance to the restaurant but you can access the restaurant floor and take the elevator/stairs 1 floor below for the front desk.) You must have room key to use the elevator and instructions are posted inside/outside the elevator on how to use it but the staircase is accessible at all times. Overall nice stay but the "night guest" moaning and weeping for 3 hours, was a little disruptive. read more

My husband and I are spending our 21 year anniversary here and loving every second. The rooms are dated but cozy and have super soft beds. The staff could not be more knowledgeable and hospitable. December 30-31st 2014: You will see alot of bad reviews on this place, don't let it scare you away. This is an old hotel, they have tried to keep it as orginal to the hospital as possible. I appreciate that. If your a Hilton type person, than this isn't the place for you. Enjoy the history and uniqueness. We were in Room 26 (x-ray room). There is a small panel in the closet that leads to the original room that developed the x-rays. You will see the inside of the closet door has a lock. Probably to keep people from coming in during development. We went on the ghost tour, which is a must. They will tell you the full history of the hotel and the murders that took place. Nice staff, rooms are cosy. There is free coffee and tea down in the lobby. Yes, it can be loud at night (boiler and people). It still has the original boiler system (which is awesome, but the pipes can make some noise). You can hear people in other rooms (and people looking for ghosts). But, come on....this is a historic OLD haunted hotel. Take some Tylenol PM and wine and quit bitchin'. Unfortunately for us, there was a major snow storm during our stay, so we had to leave early. I soooo want to go back. I would suggest staying more than one night. There is a cute little town and a cemetery that I didn't get a chance to go to. read more

The only place I've stayed in whilst in Jerome for my last two visits. Not cheap but the views are fantastic (If you get the balcony side - otherwise you're staring at a hillside!). The place amazes me that it can be 110F outside but you walk in an the temperature drops even though there's no obvious AC. The thick (and I mean thick!) concrete has a chilling effect and the rooms still have the original plumbing fixtures. You can tell it used to be a hospital and I like that eerie feeling that you get that you know this place has seen things that no ordinary hotel has! As another reviewer said, don't expect a Best Western but do expect a treat! If I could afford it, I'd probably live there. read more

I loved our stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel! The hotel's interior was a throwback to the 1920's and they used high quality beautiful wood furniture throughout. I fell in love with the antique elevator! I absolutely recommend getting Valley-side room, the view of Jerome was spectacular! The rooms were very comfortable and having a private balcony made it that much more of a luxurious experience to enjoy the fresh air. Eric took our reservation over the phone and provided tips in advance to make sure our trip was comfortable. Sarah, the front desk lady was so very nice and accommodating during check in. Truly Awesome place to stay if you are in the Jerome Area for the night and plan ahead. -----Make sure you make reservations maybe a week ahead---- They were totally booked for a Saturday when I called on a Monday. I did spend the x-tra money on the room to get a balcony.. OVERLOOKING THE ENTIRE TOWN OF JEROME ( & cotton wood) and for me it was worth it for the view ( see pictures) We stayed on the third floor where all the Ghosts are I guess We did not hear any moans from anyone or anything for that matter. The mystery machine was not parked out front so maybe it was some ghost holiday? We checked the guest book and #32 and #34 ( which is the one we stayed in) have pretty crazy stories associated with them if you are looking for the apparition experience. I did feel a little strange on the third floor hallway which was the psychiatric area.Even before I knew the significance of the third floor :).. They were really cool and let us check out the operating room which is the presidential suite now where there was a delivery room. The staff will tell you all the stories if you ask! They didn't have tour going as they are only when the hotel is not really occupied. ( go in the middle of the week we were told) The rooms were clean and very quaint n lovely 1930's decor. Not really a place to hang out unless you are lounging around in the morning.
