Oh I love this hotel. I gave it only four stars because I don't wanpeople into nking this is like a five-star hotel. Having been built in 1926 originally as a hospital you can understand that the rooms are rather small, no coffee in the rooms, small TV but big balconies. Old and charming bathrooms with blow dryer provided. I am 61 and overweight but walked down into town from the hill a couple of times each day. This hotel is definitely one for the books. I have never stayed in a hotel like this. It is definitely a 5 star hotel but for what it is (haunted and creepy), it is. It lives up to the hype that it attracts. Your not staying at this hotel for top of line things. Its meant to be creepy snd haunted and it lives up to that name. There is no air conditioner in the room but we were able to open our window so it wasn't too bad. We weren't able to get a reservation for the ghost tour that is part of hotel which was a bummer. But we were able to check out the different floors which was cool to see. Each floor had different decorations. They had a lot of the tools used from when the hotel was a hospital. In our room, nothing happened that was ghost like. Though, i did wake up a lot during the night to check things. So maybe i was feeling something in the room without noticing. The Jerome Grand Hotel has a long history. Over the decades, it has been upgraded. The HVAC system is a recent upgrade. Each room has its own externally mounted unit = no compressor noise in the room! The elevator was installed around 1929 and is fully functional. A key is required for guest room floors. We stayed in room 26 on October 6th, a double Queen. One bed was a Murphy wall unit. You opened some doors and pull the bed out and down-- very easy to accomplish. Both beds were very comfortable and clean with many pillows. The bathroom was updated and also very clean. There was a small room with a refrigerator and small freezer + microwave. Everything was clean. The HDTV TV was the best that we found in a Hotel. The signal was clean + inputs for memory cards. We usually travel with our own movies but didn't need them here. The views from were room were great! To the right of the Hotel's entry are some garages, one had a 1920s Rolls Royce--could see but not walk around it. Also an old wooden telephone booth and hotel phone switch board. The next garage had the Hotel's safe. The door was open, so it was a large walk in safe. The Restaurant is independently owned and operated. It is not opened for breakfast but open for lunch and dinner. The check in area has coffee, buns, bagels for your morning refueling. As for cost, compared to Sedona, it was a deal! Remember the rooms were very clean and updated. We highly recommend the Jerome Grand Hotel! read more

Only spent one night here and loved this hotel. Overlooks the town, spectacular views, and real nice rooms. My room was large, comfy bed, perfect WiFi, and I never heard a sound from any of the other rooms. "Breakfast" is carb heavy! But Im on vacation so I indulged on bagels, berry pie, yogurt and hot chocolate. Driving up to Jerome is on a very winding road, so be prepared for that. The final drive up to the hotel is a stone paved street, which is only one lane half way up, then widens enough for two cars, lots of pedestrians walking up, I thought I was driving on a sidewalk. Perfect place to stay, takes about 5 minutes at most to walk to Main Street, can't go wrong here read more

Stayed here a few days ago. Great historic hotel. Eric at the front desk was a joy and we got upgraded to a balcony room with some of the most amazing views. Eric showed us how to operate the elevator and walked us to the room. He saw that we brought wine so he offered to bring up some real wine glasses for us! Great service!! This is a real restaurant with great service, wonderful food and a great setting. We shared the baked Brie starter and it came with fresh berries and bread. Really nice. Then I had a vegetarian dish while my wife had a chicken dish. We Both had butternut squash soup to start and I've since learned the place is famous for this dish. We brought the entrées and desserts home as the restaurant closed at 7 PM. We're used to eating a bit later. But the brie was good for several hours. Jerome is a pretty special town, sort of an artist community and our very nice waiter's name was Dan. We didn't stay at the hotel but their rates are very reasonable so we probably will next time. We ended up at the Iron Horse Inn which was also really good. FYI neither of us are food snobs but we like food if you know what I mean. read more

Stayed last night in Arizona's most haunted hotel. It was really nice. We had a Garden room with a murphy bed for our teen and a private sunroom with a beautiful balcony view over looking the valley and cities below. Our room had been newly renovated and was gorgeous, very clean and well equipped. Our bathroom was huge! Very comfortable high end mattresses and furniture. We loved the antiques throughout the place and the old Otis elevator is cool. The desk staff is friendly and knowledgeable and love to chat with guests. There are notebooks full of pictures and letters from guests showing their spirt encounters. We throughly enjoyed our stay and plan to book again. read more

Took the family to Jerome Grand Hotel with average expectations and left very pleased with our stay. We booked a two queen bed room that offered city views. The room was of good size, both beds (one was a hideaway) were comfy, came with nice sized flat screen (many cable channels), and a very nice bathroom. I liked that they kept the old hotel feel but had upgrades in the right places. As many of you probably know, there are many stories about this hotel being haunted by ghosts and even though I do not buy in to that, the place does have that creepy vibe. The hotel does have a slightly upscale restaurant attached, that offers some pretty good food (see my upcoming Asylum review) but the sticker shock can be a little hard to swallow. Staff for both the hotel and restaurant were wonderful. Even though I am not the biggest fan of Jerome itself, if I was back in town, I would definitely be excited to make another visit to this nice establishment. read more

This place is creepy and kinda cool but the staff is so annoying! We were warned about our "noise" and told to "Simmer down" twice early on a Saturday night when we were just having a conversation walking down the stairs. I have stayed in many 5 star hotels all over the world and have never been treated this way. We are not in the Vatican... relax. So annoying. Will not stay here again. read more

Hotel yes, Asylum restaurant no. The hotel room on the end of the 4th floor was spacious. The elevator makes a lot of noise so get away from that if you are a light sleeper. If you don't want to climb stairs you will be frustrated here. The Asylum was a disappointment. We were seated at 7 (reservation) and got our dinners at 8 (I looked at my watch). Food was cooling when I got it; it was probably not bad when it was hot. For one crab leg and two sea-bass dinners with no alcoholic drinks, the tab came to $150! Not even a clock/clock radio in the room? I mean really? And I wouldn't exactly call it historically "restored", it's more "dilapidated" than anything else. The building/room actually creaked, which is probably why they try to sell you on "haunted" and "ghosts". I lived in Arizona for many years and Jerome is one of my top places to visit when I am in Sedona. The Jerome Grand has its haunted history and ghost tours in Oct. and it is a cool place. The rooms are not so great, outdated and overpriced...but the restaurant (the Asylum) has good food. I go to Jerome just have their butternut squash soup and giant, multiple layered chocolate cake! Ok so the hotel is in this cool little ghost town of Jerome. My husband and I came on vacation and we had high hopes when we came a crossed this hotel. We were looking for a truly haunting experience. After doing research on this place we decided to stay there. The staff at this hotel are very friendly and nice but that was the only plus side to the hotel. The hotel is not haunted or very scary at all. The rooms are small and very old and overpriced. We couldn't sleep and not because the ghost kept us up all night but because our backs were killing us. Lol very uncomfortable beds. There's one restaurant on site and everything else in town basically closes after 6pm. Very disappointed with this place can't say I would ever return. So if your looking for haunts and to be scared this place is not for you but if you love antiques and old fashion things then you may enjoy this place. read more

We chose the hotel for its history and it did not dissapoint. Originally we tried to book a balcony room facing the Jerome view. The online drop down menu did not allow the booking. When we called, the very kind receptionist explained that it was because we had a child. I appreciate the concern for safety. We ended up reserving a balcony-free room facing the town of Jerome and it was cozy with a breath-taking view and a very comfortable bed. The hotel is within walking distance to the town itself which we felt very comfortable doing at night as well. We had last seen the "building" 30 years ago when it was nothing but an empty shell, a relic from the time when it had been a hospital. I surprised my wife by booking a night in the now renovated Jerome Grand Hotel, as she had thought we were just driving through from Flagstaff to Prescott. It was such a treat! There is nothing grandiose about the place, so don't expect the Waldorf Astoria or the Ritz. But if you enjoy historic places, and have the coordination it takes to operate the original 1926 elevator, you will love this place. The room was comfortable and quiet without being elaborate, and well worth the experience. Spend a little extra and get a third floor room with a balcony from which you will have a clear view of the "town" of Jerome, and the far away red cliffs and buttes of the Mogollon Rim. BTW, despite the hype about being haunted, that is pure nonsense, devised to attract tourists. I'd always like to pay a little less for a hotel, but, whatever, we like this place, take my wallet. And we didn't know we booked room 32 (twice) which had some...interesting side effects? I didn't end up throwing myself off the Balcony--yaaay me! And we liked the Asylums food. The butternut squash soup has just that hint of capsaicin. You're chef needs to sign that bowl every time it leaves the kitchen. Oh wait, didn't I read Harry Merkin run off with your chef? Damn it. Now imma have to try all the food over again. The only reason I am giving this place 5 stars is because I almost cried myself to sleep...oh wait, I didn't ACTUALLY do any sleeping to begin with! Where to start? We stayed there one night, on the forth floor, room 40, and all we heard at 12:00 AM in the morning was crying, moaning and hooing that did not stop till the wee hours of the morning. We didn't want to use the bathroom, because we were too freaked out right? So when we finally have the guts to do it (we took turns guarding the door) and were done with our business, the moment we leave the bathroom, the water in the sink starts running! Spent the night here with a couple of girlfriends back in March '08. Thin walls between bathroom and bedroom. Don't bother spending the extra $15 for "mountainview," or your view may just be a wall of rock blocking your window. Thought we'd get a tour of the haunted rooms, but there really isn't one available. The b/w 13-inch TV playing a never-ending loop of Jerome history, which includes a segment on Jerome Grand Hotel, will have to suffice. Free "continental breakfast" (packaged danishes, plain bagels, and cream cheese) and coffee is available. (Good enough for my friends- I went to Mile High Grill, instead). All this for $205 a night, off-peak, and I even used my AAA discount! read more

I love reading other people's reviews of hotels I've stayed at. Some of them make me wonder if the person had actually been within 200 miles of the hotel. Fortunately there are no 1-star reviews of this property and the few 2-star reviews are so far off-base as to be nothing more than farce. The Jerome Grand Hotel is unique. I am so sorry to burst the balloons of those people who choose to stay in one-of-a-kind unique hotels and then whine that they weren't the same as some homogenized chain hotel located at a freeway interchange. We had a fairly large group and every one of us absolutely loved the place. People! You don't go to a converted asylum that is world famous as a magnet for ghost hunters to go to bed at 8 PM and expect to sleep (as one cranky woman did). The things the Grand Hotel are NOT are: 1) a luxury resort; 2) tres chic trendy; 3) convenient. Some of the things the hotel ARE would be: 1) extremely friendly and welcoming; 2) one-of-a-kind; 3) haunted. And it is that third feature that is the major draw. I will neither confirm nor debunk that there are ghosts. Your experiences may vary (although a couple of reviewers apparently were expecting a guaranteed hourly appearance of Beetlejuice or they expected a full refund, lol). Personally, I had some nice conversations with the spirits and, interestingly, the more spirits I had the more conversations I had. For a historic old building, the rooms are reasonably clean, the bath is well-stocked, the beds comfortable, the water is hot and the décor is appropriate. There is a smattering of real antiques mixed with fakes that look real. They offer two views, mountain and valley. Mountain is not what most would expect, you are actually looking at a rocky hillside that is only a few feet away. The valley view is breathtaking with the red rocks of Sedona in the distance. I posted a photo from our room, #12 and of the exterior of the hotel. I can debunk the "paper thin walls". Nope, they are actually very solid; however the unique design of the "A/C" for the rooms provided very little sound isolation from hallway sounds (there are swamp coolers in some rooms but the AC is in the hallway so you leave the transom window over your door open for cooling). And there were a lot of hallway sounds from people who paid the price to stay there to hunt ghosts. Seriously, if you chose this hotel and couldn't deal with that, you're definitely not spending enough time enjoying life! Another "complaint" is that the free coffee and rolls weren't a 5-course breakfast. Seriously? I considered it a nice offering from the hosts so we could sit around the lobby area and chat with friends. Some people's expectations are so bizarre! This last thing is important and one that so far has not really been addressed in these reviews. Jerome is a SMALL town. There are no fast food places or convenience stores (to which we can all heave a sigh of relief). If you stay in the hotel you have exactly one choice of dining on the property and while it has been referred to as "expensive" read that "outrageously expensive" (cheapest item is tofu, rice and squash at $20, wine can range to $600 a bottle. Note that there is a $10 charge to split anything, even a salad or soup and a 20% mandatory gratuity). Your other choice is to walk down the hill to one of several bar/burger joints that are more reasonably priced. The experience of that little stroll is extremely unlike what you are probably used to ... the hotel is perched high up on a hill and the only access is a steep, narrow cobblestone/gravel path with no lighting. Walking back up the hill will challenge even the young and fit, and may prove impossible for some others. If you choose to drive, be aware that there is extremely limited parking at the hotel and after dinner you may be forced to park at the bottom of the hill and walk up anyway. If you leave your high heels and designer jeans at home and appreciate a unique old hotel that actually looks and feels old and unique, and instead of complaining about a bunch of drunks outside your room talking to ghosts ... and have a fun-enough attitude to come out and join them ... you will love the Jerome Grand Hotel. If not, stay in uber-trendy Sedona and leave the rest of us alone. read more

I was very lucky to find a room here when I did. After I checked in, put everything up and came back down, all rooms were filled up to maximum occupancy. Every other hotel in Jerome was sold out, too. I'm kind of sad to be only giving the hotel three stars because there was a lot about it that I loved. Where it fell short was mostly because of the price. The room was pretty pricey for what it was. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous but the room I was in wasn't as awesome. Knock off $30-$40 and it'd be fine by me. Now, I'm not sure if this hotel is haunted or not. It has a reputation that says that it is. I'm a rational guy. I'm like Scully of the X-Files. I did, however, have TERRIBLE nightmares. I had an extremely vivid dream that involved ghosts in my room. Sort of like a waking dream in a way because I'd snap awake, look around the room and everything would be normal. Once I'd drift off the sleep again, my nightmare would pick up right where it left off. When I woke up, I asked my girlfriend if she had bad dreams and she and I experienced almost the same exact dream: Extremely vivid, very spooky dreams. There's this thing above the door you can open and it serves no practical value because it pretty much just opens this wooden thing and lets in sound from the hallway. We both dreamt of seeing it open and seeing a scary face up there. I asked my friend Brad if he had scary dreams, but he said he was too hammered to have a ghost successfully fuck with him. He was out like a light. I dug the old, rickety, vintage elevator from the 1920's. I liked how it was situated on a hill, overlooking the town of Jerome, looming large and scary as hell way up there. I thought immediately of the Overlook. I would stay here again given the chance. My husband and I just finished our second stay at The Jerome Grand. I am always looking for a haunted experience...sadly I'm still looking. I would have easily given four stars after our first visit, but this time there were some issues. First, the two upper floors (we stayed in room 30) stank of smoke. My husband asked what was burning and he was told they had done some welding earlier but they were done. Okay, as bad as it smelled, at least it would dissipate. The room was a little shabbier than the last time. We like the heritage and age, but covering bare spots in the carpet with a throw rug seemed tacky considering the price we paid. The second day when we came back from touring the town, again the upper two floors reeked of smoke. This time when we asked we were told they were incinerating and had the previous day too. Wow! Really? Their incinerator pumped smoke into the hotel and they acted as though I was unreasonable to not simply smile and go back upstairs. The smell was so bad I had to stay out on the balcony. After being both lied to (welding?) and dismissed when I had the nerve to complain, we've decided to stay someplace else the next time we go to Jerome. The better first visit from a couple of years ago is why I'm giving the generous three stars. read more

We stayed in room 12 this past weekend and unfortunately didn't encounter any ghosts but I could see how someone could think they did. The walls are thin, the radiator makes noises and the pipes often make banging sounds. I did, however, wake up from a brief nap to see something crawling up my boyfriend's arm, I kept scratching at it freaking out but he assured me I was just dreaming. It was all so real, then again I did have a quite a bit to drink at Grapes shortly before. Besides that and the fact I was freezing the whole time while he was quite warm, we didn't experience anything "paranormal" We stayed in one of the few rooms that actually has an air conditioner (good info for when you stay in the summer), we had a nice valley view, the room was clean. It had an ironing board and iron, a decent bathroom with a shower (no tub) and for a non 5-star hotel the bed was fairly comfortable. That creepy figure sitting in the chair was right outside our room so that brought a lot of folks to our door, it was quite annoying. However, to make it more exciting, just watch them out the peephole until their back is right in front of the door, slowly open it, then touch them. Guaranteed to freak folks out!!! The view from the Grand Hotel (inside and out) is amazing and worth at least one stay for that alone. The rooms themselves are nothing very special: the bed was comfortable, but the TV was fuzzy, the carpet and furniture was pretty shabby, but there were some nice touches (a dish of candy, decent toiletry items). Be forewarned: some rooms have tubs and some do not (only showers), some have swamp coolers, and some do not (so be sure to ask if these things are important to you), there is no hairdryer or coffeemaker in the room. There is some brown water, er... I mean "coffee" available in the lobby. The old elevator is super cool. The gift shop is a conglomeration of items you will see in other stores in Jerome. If you are unfamiliar with the history of Jerome, then the video that plays in continuous loop on one of the TV channels is worth watching. The biggest problem we had was with the staff, who claimed to have made a reservation for my in-laws months ago for a package deal with the train that takes you through the Verde Valley. When they checked in, the staff "looked up" the "reservation" and said our tickets were waiting for us at the train depot. When we arrived at the depot, we discovered this was a lie. We were fortunate that 2 couples no-showed, so we were able to get on the train anyway (which I highly recommend, by the way), but this kind of problem with a package they offer all the time is just not acceptable. As far as the ghosts are concerned, I am a believer and usually sensitive to such phenomena. I did not have any paranormal experiences either night we were there. I did overhear some other guests saying that one afternoon, they returned to their room on an upper floor only to discover every drawer of every piece of furniture in the hallway was hanging open, the fire extinguisher was out of its holder and on top of a piece of furniture, and the vase of flowers that had previously been in that spot was now where the fire extinguisher should have been. The Asylum restaurant at the Grand Hotel is overrated and overly pricey (I've eaten there twice). We frankly had a better meal at Grapes (my in-laws ate there 3 times in 4 days). Mile High had a great breakfast (try the cibatta french toast or the breakfast chimi). The Haunted Hamburger is pretty tasty (a bit more extensive menu than typical bar fare). read more

This review is only for the hotel as an attraction. We did not dine or stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel. This being reviewed as a tourist attraction. While on our Pink Jeep Tour our guide highly suggest that we come to check out Jerome. He said its a funky little hill side town that has a lot of history and that the Jerome Grand Hotel use to be mental institution. So we made the 45 minute drive out to check it out. It was cool to see the town and the old building. I still dint understand why the would build such a large town and a mental institution on the side of a mountain? I only got a room here with a friend because we were on this haunted weekend kicked for halloween. We requested the most "haunted" room available, which wasn't haunted at all. The entire bathroom was old and run down, at night it would go back and forth from hot to cold. The beds were a little hard, the room was just old in general. Old carpets, furniture, everything. The only great thing about the hotel and room was the view from the room. I would give it another shot in a better room, with an equally amazing view. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A BEST WESTERN!!!! When we came into the lobby to check in a young hipster/pseudo biker/lake pleasant type couple were at the desk asking about rooms. Their main questions revolved around: 1. availability (they asked about 3 different weekends in October when every single time the guy behind the desk told them October was booked) 2. What kind of cable service is provided and 3. if Fox news was available. WTF?? Stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel for the view, history, or just the cool ass experience, honestly if you spend any time in the room (besides sleeping off the party at the spirit room) you're doing something wrong! Hands down best place to stay in Jerome, regrettably, no free breakfast, but awesome coffee and snacks in the AM. We are going back next month for more! read more

My friends and I had a great time in Jerome this weekend. The hotel staff was super nice and very knowledgeable of the history. We had adjoining rooms 23 & 25 and were not so pleasantly surprised to find out that those rooms were the "death room" meaning hospice rooms where people went to die back when it was a hospital. We did experience some paranormal activity. My friend in room 25 heard some distress crying and moaning. I heard squeaky wheels down the hallway. We also heard kids running up and down the hallway at 2:30 a.m. (rude ghost children). The only issue we had is that our boiler did not shut off and our room was boiling hot even with the window open. For what I am looking for, this place gets five stars..... I loved it, every inch of it........Although the first night was mighty tough to survive....The hotel is very interesting and understanding it and all it's circumstances post TV is important in setting the scene for the best possible circumstances for your stay. First of all, it is an old hospital in a old mining town. Being disappointed with the furnishings is just an issue with unrealistic expectations. The architecture of the hospital, institutional and old, drives the entire feel of the place. Given that truth it's amazing how well they actually do with it. Halls are decorated with interesting healthcare/hospital related implements and the third floor has some shiny surgical items that inspire the imagination. The rooms (we stayed in two different rooms 20 and 39A) are well appointed with solid dressers and other furnishings. The beds are made up with warm linens and the radiant heating system is outstanding. It is clean. Room 20 is on the front of the hotel, parking lot side and while it is very spiritually active, it is also very loud. There is an old car permanently parked in front of the hotel below the window of room 20 and guests are constantly marveling, very loudly at its interesting features. Also, there is a door on the second floor preventing drunkards from wandering up into the 2nd floor and above--While this is well intentioned, it has another effect as it slams all night long while giddy ghost hunting guests roll around looking for activity. Despite the live human noise which went on until about 3:30 am, I was visited by a friendly spirit constantly in this room. My hair and shoulders were touched, electric energy rolled over me several times in waves and I heard the famed cat meow three times. In between the din of folks yelling, laughing and goofing off in the halls, slamming their own room doors, I heard disassociated screams that sounded old. The next night we stayed in room 39A. This is a paradise of a room. Connected to a large shared atrium (no one was in the room that shares it, 39B), it has a large sitting area and lovely bathroom with very old but well kept fixtures. This room, apparently part of the sanitorium when the hospital was operating, has very good jou jou. I did not experience any happenings in this room, but felt a very dark presence across the hall in 39B. At times, I could feel it at the end of the atrium that 39B connects to and asked it to stay in it's area---it obliged, although I got the sense it stayed because it was stuck in that space and couldn't move anyway. Dark, depressed but not evil. Even still, one room away, I slept with the light on for half the night. And then I turned it off and imagined that dark spirit standing out in the atrium and peering in at me as I slept--Whoah. Other things to know: The staff are saints. Every single one has the patience of a saint. Hundreds of people come in and out of the hotel looking for ghosts and they are very nice, engaged and extremely customer oriented. The place is definitely haunted. There are spirits here. Many. There is also remnant energy and echos of the past that are simply repeating in between moments of time not connected to spirits. It's all here. Expected and unexpected. The place is loud so do not expect rest or sleep and you won't be disappointed when you don't get much of it. The beds are comfy and warm, the restaurant staff super nice, talented and serve you delicious food. The energy of the earth around and in the hotel healing, the experience of it all, OUTSTANDING. Bottom line? Go here with your eyes open and your minds full of information. Don't forget your manners, don't be super loud, don't get obnoxiously drunk, don't yell anywhere inside or out of the hotel unnecessarily, don't wander around the hotel in your pajamas, don't let your kids and teenagers wander around unsupervised and don't get in a fight with your room mates and then run out into the parking lot wasted and loose one of your ridiculously high heeled shoes. Be better examples of the human race and connect with all the history, energy and awesomeness of this place......It is a experience not to be missed and you won't regret having it......As one other reviewer said, if you squint your eyes and wish hard enough, you can be right back at the Jerome Grand Hotel no matter where you are and loving every minute of it.... read more
