I read on Yelp that this market has an excellent deli, so we went here to grab sandwiches for lunch one day during our Carmel Valley stay. It was quite crowded on a Saturday afternoon. They have you fill out a form for ordering a sandwich. On one side of the form you can order a speciality sandwich with all the ingredients listed or on the other side you can build your own sandwich. Then you give the form to the deli cashier and they call your name when it's ready. I had the Malibu chicken speciality sandwich, which was excellent. It came on the softest roll and the chicken had plenty of flavor. A couple other people in our party had the tri tip sandwich and said it was delicious. SCW and I stopped into Jerome's Carmel Valley Market while walking around Carmel post wine tasting. The interior is clean and cozy with the produce off to to the right as you enter. The aisles can be a bit small which I could see being a bit of a pain if there are lots of people in the store. You can pretty much find anything you are looking for here. Albeit not necessarily the same volume as a chain grocery store but everything here seems to be good quality. We found lots of good wine as well. Then we got to the deli. It's pretty impressive with standard items like the various prepared salads (chicken, tuna, etc). We wanted to try the sandwiches and for that you'll need to get the order forms from outside near the entrance, then take them to the counter, wait a bit and they'll call you when it's ready. We both got mediterranean sandwiches to go. You can get build your own as well but I figured I'd go with one on the menu. The sandwich was delicious. Fresh ingredients, really good bread, and everything just worked in the sandwich. I really enjoyed it. We also got some butter beans from the deli and those were amazing as well. When you live on the Monterey Peninsula, one of the things you figure out quickly is where to go for the best food sources when you're when you're the one doing the cooking. There's always Whole Foods Safeway, etc. but a hidden gem in Carmel Valley Village is Jerome's. It's not one of these huge Safeway Whole Foods warehouse size stores. It's actually small and terribly efficient in a good way. He has his own butchers and they actually butcher. Nothing comes prepackaged in cellophane packages. Excellent meat, fish, poultry. A very nice selection of produce local providers lot of organics and a homey feeling. This is definitely a local spot. It's about 12 miles from Highway one and a nice ride through the valley to get to the Village. Jerome has some great wines at reasonable prices and as you might guess a fairly good uniqueness to his French offerings. The same could be said for local SLH/Monterey vintages again at reasonable prices I found some price less than the wineries. Look it's not the size of total wine, but it doesn't have to be. It just has to be good stuff at the right price that you can enjoy when you're making dinner at home. And I always seem to managed to buy a few bottles when I'm in there. Today was a 2021 Pisoni reserve Pinot--yum. They do a really good job each day preparing certain foods that you can have for dinner. There's prime rib night. There's pork chops. There's spareribs chicken all cooked fresh that day. Want a sandwich no problem. They've got a crew that makes what just about whatever you want. Bottom line they do with the big guys can't do.-- high-quality really good service and staff that seems to always smile. Enjoy yourself. read more

First of all, I love this store and I feel very fortunate that we have Jerome's in our small town. This review is specifically a sandwich review, as I finally tried their in-house made sandwiches yesterday. We ordered 3 different sandwiches. All three were built generally the same. I personally had a pastrami on a French roll with several veggies to add freshness. Although the sandwich price at $12 is on par for custom built sandwiches these days, I was hoping for more meat and veggies that would stand apart from other delis. But it was probably the least filled sandwich that we all have had in a while. The bread was fresh as well as the ingredients, there just wasn't enough meat or vegetables in the sandwich. I think it is a decent sandwich for the convenience. I just won't get another sandwich or seek it out when looking for a deli sandwich. By the way, they did put a healthy portion of alfalfa sprouts. So if you like sprouts, maybe Jerome's will be your sandwich place. read more

What a treat to leave soggy PG for Carmel Valley and I remember reading about Chef Jerome's transition to buying the market so I had to stop in. I got the "Carmel Valley roaster", which is smoked tri-tip, chipotle, mayo, arugula, pepper jack on Dutch Crunch for only $14. Absolute perfection.. fresh, layers of flavor. Since I live in, PG wasn't sure of the procedure there so I was standing there with my order and chef owner Jerome himself with a smile, took it from me, handed it to the person behind the counter and then I got to chat with him and congratulate him because I'd also read the great write up about him in edible Monterey. Nice little shop in Carmel Valley! Please note that their store is in the process of expanding and it can be confusing where to enter. I accidentally went into the warehouse and was kindly guided by an employee to the actual entrance. They have a lot of specialty products which are very hard to find elsewhere, like haskap berry powder and black cone salt. I had not heard of these two things before I stepped into this store. Haskap berries in particular seem very attractive due to the extremely high level of natural antioxidants contained within. However, I will note that the two bags of haskap berry powder that they had were both expired by half a year, and several other items were also expired and not fit for sale. The meat section (which is what I was initially interested in) was not stellar either. Some steaks were clearly not fresh and I saw maybe one ribeye that I would maybe consider buying and it was still fattier than ideal. Don't recommend this place for meats and definitely watch out with the expiration dates to make sure you don't buy something past its prime here. Perhaps they are still getting their act together with the store expansion but definitely need to improve on these critical areas as soon as possible. read more

For the uninitiated looking for a sandwich, the procedure is outside there is a bar height table with order slips. You fill one out, put your name on it, then take it inside and give it to someone working behind the butcher counter on the left side of the left of the store entrance for them to make it for you. Jerome provided exceptional catering for our wedding weekend at Stonepine Estate! While it took a bit to connect initially, once we reached him by phone, Jerome was absolutely lovely to work with. He offered delicious food options at very reasonable pricing - $30 per person for our group of 40. The variety was perfect for our two-day celebration: salmon, salad, and chicken on Friday, followed by fruit and cookies. Saturday's lunch featured mini turkey avocado wraps, chicken salad wraps, vegetarian tea sandwiches, fresh salads, and absolutely unreal macarons that our guests are still talking about! Because they don't accept EBT, I think that in this day and age, all food vendors should include all buyers. As a graduate student who enjoys a cute getaway drive, the store provided a great selection along with friendly staff. I was disappointed to learn on the spot that they would not accept EBT. Jerome cares about his customers and has great food throughout the store, besides having great sandwiches, a really good butcher shop, good wines and fresh organic vegtables. Jerome's is wonderful. It's a top-notch, very local market, run by Jerome Viel, a French chef who, item by item, built this gem up. His staff is friendly and very professional, and Jerome carries both the basic day-to-day stuff, and high-end gourmet products -- dry-aged steaks, a nice big selection of wine, seafood, all of it, in an amazingly tiny space. Sandwiches were soooo good, I created my own a turkey bacon chipotle mayo pesto w/ pepper jack cheese and veggies. So yum. My mom devoured her pastrami sandwich. Top-notch deli sandwiches in a friendly market. I got one of the specials: turkey & cheese on a baguette. My buddy got a traditional ham on sourdough. Stopped in for a quick bite. Had the chicken sandwich and it was super good. Avocado was fresh not browned or bad tasting. Honey dijon dressing was perfect to complement the roasted chicken. We were in town for a few days on a golf trip. We chose to patronize the local shops and eateries rather than drive back into Carmel. This market is well appointed and has a lot of unique and local items. I had a delicious fresh made sandwich and coleslaw from the deli. The men in the deli were friendly and helpful. I bought some of the yummy local baked goods to take home. I would have loved to have given 5 stars but the customer service at checkout was lacking. I'm sure it was obvious we were tourists but I'm from a very small town myself and accustomed to friendly people in small local establishments. That's not the vibe here. Since the lockdown, Jerome's Carmel Valley Market has saved my family. The fresh all Organic produce and Neiman Ranch meats are Prime and seasonal. They have a terrific wine selection as we'll. You can arrange for them to pack your order, shop for you and then pick up your food without having to go inside the store for a small fee.
