So one morning on a recent golfing trip to Monterey area,I was out for a morning walk to Starbucks when I caught this wonderful smell in the air and wouldn't you know it,as soon as I turned a corner,there was this wonderful gentleman cooking up 25+ tri-tips and I asked him what they were for and he said it was the meat used for the days tritip sandwich sales.I told him I would be back after my round of golf that morning. Well after my comical round of golf that day,I returned to the shop and I truly stumbled upon a true hidden gem of a sandwich shop. I went with a buddy and we ended up getting two types of sandwiches and we split them. We ordered the Hot Pastrami ($15.00) and the aforementioned Tri-Tip Sandwich($16.00) We also got a large potato salad they offered-not sure on pricing on that. So let's talk about the sandwiches. I really enjoyed the Pastrami quite a bit-it was for sure one of the best Pastramis I've ever tasted,not too fatty and perfectly seasoned. The Tri-Tip though-that was exactly what I thought it would be-true showstopper. You ever have a food item that was so good that it almost kinda pisses you off because you now know this level exists and most likely won't find it again like this?....Well that's what this item was-perfection Tri-Tip on a really well-made sandwich. Their potato salad was really high level as well,total creaminess with perfect balance of seasonings-I could never make mine this well. Their high level of food explained why when I arrived at the little market there were 7-8 people in line in front of us. Parking for this location is all street parking as this place is truly just a little neighborhood market located in a residential neighborhood-If you blinked when driving by,one could miss it. But that doesn't stop them from delivering very high quality food and a permanent stop on my must-visit list whenever I go back to the Monterey area...You should do the same-it's great. read more

The woman who made our sandwiches was so nice, and the woman at the register gave us tips for our Big Sur trip. The four sandwiches we ordered were all delicious! After a round of golf, wanted to grab a sandwich before hitting the road and this place was a gem. Simple convenience store layout upon entering, with some tables and chairs to the left, the deli sandwich area off to the right. Short wait to place my order, the Gal working was very pleasant and made our sandwiches to order. My buddy Vic ordered the Tri-tip sandwich and I ordered the Pastrami and we swapped 1/2's so we could try each sandwich. Boy Howdy, what an absolute delight to my taste buds, the sweet roll wrapped around a hefty amount of juicy succulent tri-tip that was so tender, it was easy to bite through and chew. The Pastrami was just as tasty and rewarding to eat. Also ordered some potato salad as a side, which may be the best potato salad I have ever had(im glad my mother isnt on Yelp or she would tan my hide) The conundrum will be what to order next time I am in town, but I am wagering whatever I get will be just as good... read more

OH MY GOODNESS!!! This deli is phenomenal. First of all, the store is immaculately clean and organized. Next the workers are friendly and nice. But most importantly, the food is amazing!! We had the turkey sandwiches and they were excellent. The veggies were so fresh and crisp and the bread was the softest most delicious bread we've ever had. You know it's a good sandwich when the bread is delicious. The portion sizes were huge too. Not only did I enjoy it, my kids went to town on the sandwiches. I can't recommend this place enough. I absolutely LOVE a neighborhood market/deli... and this place is, hands down, our favorite! Trust me... drop whatever you're doing and go try the turkey and swiss on Dutch crunch bread with all the toppings. (I personally leave off the jalapeños off because I feel the pepperocinis are enough. But to each their own!) The sandwiches are huge and a great value. (As a mom of four teenagers, that's incredibly appreciated... the kids will often take two days to finish their sandwiches.) I am writing this review on behalf of my sister who ADORES this market/deli for the following reasons: 1. its history and longevity, 2. family owned, 3. she is addicted to their thinly sliced pistachio Italian mortadella sandwich - so addicted is she - that she gets it with just the meat, provolone, extra mayo on a sesame seed ciabatta roll and nothing else to distract from its authentically delightful flavors, 4. The service is super duper friendly - you feel like family ! My whole group loved their food. This is the perfect spot to grab a sandwich for a beach day. They do have a few tables if you'd rather eat there, but it feels more like a grab-and-go place. I think this has been a local business for quite a while though I'm only a year into living in town. They have new specials everyday that they start serving at 11 am. And they have tables set up so you can eat there if you like though I never have personally. Staff has always been kind to me and seemingly very very busy. I'll start this review off by saying, I'm from NY and I was impressed! I got a salami sub on whole wheat and it was pretty good. Fresh and great tasting mayo + mustard, the meat was fresh as well. The woman who helped me over the phone was friendly and had great customer service. The ambiance is reminiscent of NY delis/markets , which I miss so much. They have lots of drinks and snacks available inside the store. Easy parking too for quick pick ups. The only negative I would say is the bread was crumbly and tasted a bit old, but I did go at the end of their business day and NY bread/subs are tough to live up to lol Great job La Sala! Wow! What a surprise. My friend grew up in Carmel and never knew about this place. Found out about it and we went two days in a row. The place will be slammed and will probably have a really long line. Don't let that dissuade you. The staff is fantastic and they will move you through pretty quick. And the wait is worth it. Great sandwiches and a lot of food for a very fair price. I highly recommend going on a Friday and getting their special, the "Breaded Calamari" sandwich. Wow! Everything about it was perfect. Nice place to get a sandwich at lunch! I've been here numerous times but finally had time to post a review. The place always seems busy because the sandwiches here are wonderful. Fresh baked bread, and the toppings are plentiful. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Since this is a market, you have a large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I did not see a restroom inside nor did I ask for one. I ordered two sandwiches (vegetarian & egg salad) chips and a drink. I'm always sad they aren't open till 7pm for dinner. Fantastic and reliably good for years! Why on earth would someone go and spend at a place like the "underground train chain" when for the same price you get the quality of Bi-Rite? It's no contest for me. The only ding would be depending on who makes your sandwich, ingredients might be a little bit too heavy in the middle and don't quite reach the edges of the bread. I found this spot by chance and I am so glad I did. I ordered the hot pastrami sandwich and it was divine. This place gets pretty busy right at lunch time but they take phone orders for those who are squeezed for time.
