It just takes a few long right turns to get there. Parking is easy and accessible out in the front parking lot. From the front, the market does not look like a popular BBQ spot. It looks like a simple small market store to grab quick snacks and drinks. Once inside there is a BBQ and deli section to your right. A small dining area is to your left. The decor is old fashioned and quaint. The 2 gentlemen greet you with friendly hospitality. We ordered the Tri tip sandwich, half slab of ribs which includes 2 potatoes and a cup of corn chowder. The pit master/owner Martin, who use to work for Original Joe's, was kind enough to also include a quarter chicken leg, a sausage, and extra ribs. It was so much food for our party of 3. Everything was delicious and hearty. The Tri tip sandwich was scrumptious with the flaming Fritos adding a nice crunchy texture and kick with every bite. The ribs were juicy and smokey. Potatoes complemented very well with the rest of the meat and chicken. Corn chowder was so tasty and creamy. I did not know corn chowder was that good. Overall we enjoyed our experience at the Prunedale Market. The staff were super nice and accommodating. They even offered for our son to grab some free ice cream to go. We politely declined. While the outside is nondescript, the bakery itself is beautiful on the inside and the selection of baked goods is extensive and spectacular. So many unique and tempting creations. It is difficult to choose one thing to order because there are so many that look amazing. We tried what they call a roulette which is a round layered pastry that is loaded with flavor. It was absolutely delicious. Not too sweet but just right. The disappointing factor at Gourmet Central Bakery is the coffee. It was incredible weak and flavorless. Not sure if it was the beans they use or the mix of water to coffee, but it was hugely disappointing. It did not compliment whatsoever their incredible baked goods. I hope they will focus on providing beverages that match the quality and creativity of their pastries. I would say check out GCB for all of their incredible baked goods, just don't order coffee until they make some changes. Their baked goods deserve, as do customers, a satisfying coffee pairing.

We tried multiple places that all made their own claims to the title, but after our very unofficial family taste test, Phil's was the clear winner. Their cioppino is what keeps us coming back -- rich, comforting, loaded with seafood, and exactly what I want after a day on the coast. We also tried the sea bass fish and chips, which were excellent. The fish was buttery and flaky inside with a nice crisp exterior, and the portion was generous with four good-sized pieces of fish. At this point, a Monterey Aquarium trip almost feels incomplete without a stop at Phil's. We may come down for the fish at the aquarium, but we stay for the fish at Phil's.
