We signed a contract with this contractor on June 9 to repair our deck. The contract clearly states…read morethat the project was to be completed by July 4. Today is July 16, and the project is still not even halfway finished. From the very beginning, the project was poorly managed. Work started late, crews were not sent as promised, there were days when no one showed up at all, and when workers did arrive, they often worked only a few hours before leaving. Communication was extremely poor. Our phone calls and messages were frequently ignored, and we were constantly forced to chase the contractor for updates. The job site was repeatedly left in an unsafe and unacceptable condition. Construction debris and garbage were left scattered around our property instead of being cleaned up or removed. We have two puppies, and they were injured because of the debris that was left behind. No homeowner should have to worry about the safety of their family or pets because a contractor failed to maintain a safe work site. This is a clear breach of contract. To make matters worse, the contractor knew we have an important event at our home next week and that completing the deck before then is extremely important to us. Rather than honoring the terms of the signed contract, he has used our time-sensitive situation to demand additional money that is not required under our written agreement. Work has now stopped altogether, even though the contract does not permit this. At this point, the lack of progress raises serious concerns about whether this company has the experience or ability to complete this type of project efficiently. Regardless of the reason, there is simply no justification for a project that was supposed to be completed by July 4 to still be less than halfway finished on July 16. Also, they tried to use subprime replacement material - not exactly what we had (for example: iron nails, instead of stainless steel that was used in the past) until I had to fight them for it. As a result, we intend to pursue legal action for breach of contract and seek all damages available under the law. I would strongly caution anyone considering hiring this contractor.
