Great place, get most of my records here. Virtually nothing post-80s, but that's to be expected with used vinyl.

This is like a step back into my teenage years and every record you can imagine is in Jerry's place. The man knows his stuff for sure even if you aren't selling your old records, it's a neat place to go visit and will certainly take my generation back to a different time. read more

Something for everyone if your into vinyl that is (don't get kinky I am talking records). You can spend hours in this place digging up hidden treasures. I am finding records of bands from the 70's and 80's like Zebra and Twisted Sister who I would see back on LI at the clubs as a teenager (back in the day) when you would get pulled over for drinking and driving and the police would just say walk home and leave your car instead of throwing you in the slammer and then you would pretend to walk home but when the police left you would double back and get in your car again with all your friends and party some more! The largest selection of records I've ever seen in my life. A little hard to configure at first, but they have EVERYTHING. The only downside is they put new records out every single day - and the popular ones go fast! So get there early! read more

I'm lucky enough to live in a city with lots of shops that sell new and used vinyl but none of them compare to Jerry's. They have a great selection of used vinyl and every once in a while you can find some new or "newish" LPs. The records are all priced very reasonably and the jazz section is fantastic. This place is quite large so I would go in with a definite idea of what you're looking for otherwise you'll probably feel a bit overwhelmed. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is due to the fact that they don't have many punk, new wave, or electronic albums. They also don't seem to carry many hard to find records. I love this store. I try to stop in every time I'm in Pittsburgh. I have found records in this store that I never knew existed in such great condition at real prices, not the unrealistic prices of the internet gougers. The selection changes from day to day because of the nature of the business. If you see what you want, BUY IT ! It may not be there the next time you come back. The walls of 45's are amazing too. One of the premier record stores in the entire country! Totally amazing. Not overpriced, has a friendly staff who are there because they're into music. Jerry himself is still there most of the time, even though I heard he was trying to retire. Stores like this are the heart and soul of a city's music scene, and I think that Pittsburgh never died as a record town partly because of this very place! Any visit to Pittsburgh requires a visit to Jerry's and then to Paul's CDs. read more

Wow, thats all I can say. We were in town from CLE to see Chris Robinson Brotherhood and stopped by Jerry's for the 1st time. It was mind blowing. Everything you could want. You need several days to look through everything. The vinyls are accessible. The prices are awesome. The notes he puts on the outside plastic (Exceptionally Clean, Very Good, free original poster inside, etc) are so helpful. The staff was so cordial and helpful. The only downside is that they only accept cash, so unfortunately, I had to limit myself to less than $200. But, that is okay. IWe will make the trek again. And, oh by the way, talk to Jerry. He is so kind and genuine. It makes the store complete! We will stop everytime we are back in town. read more

I've been a long time customer of Jerry's (from back in the little shop above Panther Hollow Inn) and I'm still finding albums I'd given up on years before. Very well organized with separate rooms for jazz, classical, soundtracks and 78s with the main area devoted to rock of all genres, each with its own section and broken down by artist. If you don't find what you're looking for the first time keep coming back for sooner or later a copy will show up. read more

I have been going to Jerry's for years.The cool thing about Jerry's records is that Jerry,the owner has a slight resemblence to Jerry Garcia.Anyways,you can find so many rare gems that you'll be lost in the place for hours on end! I've been to record stores is a few different states and even Europe and this is by far one of my favorites. BRING MONEY! Not because it's expensive but because you're gonna see a ton of stuff you want. Tons of vinyl and it's all very organized into specific genres and very carefully graded. And here's the best part: priced to sell!!! Regular single lp's are $5 and double lp's are $7. I found the staff to be very unpretentious and VERY helpful. Thye have listening stations and they sell turntables too. There's pretty much only street parking but Pittsburgh has a new computerized parking meter system that is reasonable and easy to use. read more

Great prices, and Jerry is a character, for sure. But there's not a lot of good stuff in stock. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. If you're looking for Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink Floyd, you can pretty much forget it. This is exactly how it's described. It's huge. It's awesome. He's got things no one else can even think to have. But make sure you look at all the discs. Don't take his word for it! I always inspect but caught up in it and took his word for a "clean" copy. Not so much. The price is right, tho, to try lots of new things. read more

After setting up an appointment for Chris to evaluate my nearly 2000 record collection he simply didn't show up, didn't call me and when he finally answered his cell phone had only a mumbling, feeble excuse about how something came up last minute. This is by far the best place to shop for those old records that you're looking for. I own my parents' old vinyl player at my place, and it has quickly become my most prized possession. I really only listen to classic rock when I'm home, and I love slowly collecting the old records that my parents grew up listening to: Steve Miller Band, Foreigner, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, etc. I discovered Jerry's my first summer here five years ago, and I have to say they have the best collection BY FAR for anything that you're interested in finding. They have what seems to be a little warehouse on the second floor of a place right on Murray, and I love strolling down on a weekend day to look for something I might want to buy. Lately I've gotten into some blues and jazz, and their sections host a bunch of old Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. And they are relatively cheap compared to any other place you'll shop in. Most of the records are in the 4-5 dollar range (as others have said here). The people are pretty helpful and you can always ask to try out a record in the store to make sure it's got a perfect old crisp sound that we all long for! read more

I absolutely refuse to shop for records here. After several trips spent trying to find a decent record at Jerry's, I gave up and never looked back. The selection is terrible. They may have volume but that means nothing if it's Easy Listening and Soft Rock records that you could find in better shape and cheaper at a thift store. Pittsburgh has plenty of other record stores that are worth checking out but don't waste your time here. Plus you'll never find a new release at Jerry's. read more

Jerry's is an impressive record store, no question. However, I am posting this review to warn people that HE WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF IF GIVEN THE CHANCE. Last week, I bought my two little kids a Fisher-Price record player (Daddy has his own deck for playing The Good Records). After buying a nice little stack of nursery rhyme 45s at The Attic for just $4 last Friday, I thought I'd head over to Jerry's to see what children's records he might have. I explained to Jerry what I was looking for. After thinking about it for a minute, he said he might have some old 45s in storage and had to have one of his helpers dig them out for me. In the chit chat we had while locating the crates, they basically admitted to me that nobody EVER comes in asking for children's records. So the guy digs out the records and I spend the next 45 minutes or so going through them. The 45s were in very rough shape. Not sorted, not categorized.....most did not have sleeves any protection, just thrown into boxes. They were dirty, scratched and grimy. I did find some good titles (mostly nursery rhymes, Winnie the Pooh, etc) that seemed at least playable and took them up to the counter to buy them. When I handed Jerry the stack of records he counted them up.....there were 40 of them. All 45s. All in VERY used condition (being polite here...most people would likely consider them junk). Jerry looks at me and says "$100". ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. More than $2/record. I literally laughed. Ridiculous. Keep in mind, this was after Jerry and his staff all admitted that this was dead weight inventory that "nobody comes in asking for". When I reminded Jerry of that comment after he quoted me $100, he denied it and said that "we get people asking for these all the time". This was also a mere two days after I had gone to his competitor, The Attic in Millvale, where they happily sold me a stack of the exact same type of records from the same labels for about $0.25/record. Needless to say, I left those 45s sitting on Jerry's counter and walked out. Jerry's is an interesting store, no question. However, as my story illustrates, he will try to take advantage of you and will try to rip you off if given the chance. Do yourself a favor and try The Attic instead. The staff there is fantastic, their inventory is just as big, they are always extremely helpful and most importantly, they are not trying to rip customers off. read more

I have been to Jerry's about 4 times since moving to Squirrel Hill. On my first visit I came looking for CD's and left with 5 LP's and a turntable! Fantastic place, even just to browse. You never know what you'll stumble upon in any genre. There's an incredible selection of 80s pop/post-punk/new wave 7"s in addition to the regular LPs, and you can never go wrong with Jerry's "Good Stuff" section next to the register. Be sure to check out the smaller nooks just off of the main room for some obscure and entertaining soundtracks and miscellany. As others have expressed, most of the records may not be in mint condition, but what do you expect with a "used" record store, right? :) However, the low prices and vast, eclectic selection more than make up for it. read more

The most amazing collection of vinyl I've ever seen. I only had an hour so I went straight to the jazz collection. I found a Monty Alexander album I'd been looking for since the early 70's when I lived in Miami and Monty played there in a little jazz club. Also found an early Ernestine Anderson that was out of this world. If you are lucky enough to live in an area where jazz is played on the radio, Monty and Ernestine are rarely ever heard. I will go back again, but this time with many more hours and a lot more cash in my pocket. Jerry's is a gem of a place!!!! read more

Drove 2 hours to see this place and was very pleased. It is very big and would probably take a whole weekend to really experience it. His price on his 45's were a little pricey. I would recomend he lower his prices to move his inventory. As I would of bought a ton of 45's if they were priced better. Over all it was a good experience to visit. read more
