In my continuing quest to find the sublime Italian sandwiches from my Pittsburgh-based childhood, I had to give a place with Jersey in the name a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Having the meats freshly sliced makes a big difference in flavor, and the "Mike's Way" option adds the spices and oil/vinegar to really tie the sandwich together (All the dude ever wanted was his rug back). I go to Jersey Mike's when I have to run errands in the 183/MoPac vortex - it's a welcome stop when I'm really hungry - when I've waited too long to eat lunch - because the sandwich is STACKED. It does make the meat overwhelm the rest of the flavors, but that's not a problem because the meat is fresh and tasty. Much better than you'd expect out of a national chain. read more

Once, on a weekend visit to Boston, my wife and I had breakfast at a breakfast place near MIT. The food was great but what I remember the most was how they managed to serve so many customers in such a small space. The place was packed. Every seat was taken and there was a long line of customers queued along the walls, waiting to place their order. And yet once you placed your order, there was a place to sit. I remember imagining the owner must have been an MIT graduate with lots of training in queueing theory. Jersey Mike Subs is kind of like that. It's a small space with a lot of tables. When I go there at lunch, there's usually a long line waiting to order a sandwich. The line moves quickly though, and despite the speed, the sandwiches are consistently good. I usually get a tuna sub, a bag of chips, and an iced tea. I don't know what my buddy orders but he keeps going back, so I guess his sandwich is good too. read more

I love sandwiches so much I could eat them two or three times a day. Enter Jersey Mike's, where I can buy a giant sub and eat multiple meals for less than $10. They tout their freshly sliced meat piled on your sandwich right in front of you--really, I don't care about this. What I do care about are the people working the counter are quick and just friendly enough. I've never had any bread that wasn't soft and fresh, and the sandwich fillings are always fresh and crisp. There isn't a lot of selection for veggies, but I don't need more than lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion anyway. If I feel like changing it up from my usual basic cold sub, the hot subs are tasty and flavorful as well, though they understandably take longer to make. I adore the chipotle cheese steak for some creamy, melty, spicy goodness. Save money! Sign up for their email list and get coupons like crazy. I am always on the hunt for new sub places to eat since I am burned out with Subway and Quiznos. Jimmy John's is a total joke. I do not see what people see in that place. I ordered a cheese steak and immediately got my order. They hand cut the deli meat right in front of you. That is what I call quality. The bread was classic. The meat was tender and the cheese gooey. Fantastic Jersey-style sandwich joint. I highly recommend the cold sandwiches - the meat is super fresh and sliced to order. I usually get the club sub because it has good variety and their bacon is sandwich perfect - crispy and not greasy. I know it's probably better "Mike's Way" with the oil, vinegar, and Italian spices but I have a very rational fear of walking out of there with oregano all up in my teeth. Downsides are minimal seating, the insane 183 traffic buildup during lunch, and their iced tea needs some work. read more

Lousy location - don't think many people even know this place is here - I certainly didn't until someone told me about it. I know what you're thinking - another sub place!?!? Indeed, with the same basic selection of sandwiches as every other place. Not sold yet? The difference here is that they actually slice meat to order, and yes, this really does make a difference. Would you rather have freshly sliced or something that has been sitting in a tin for 2 days at the sandwich counter and in a semi-trailer for the 3 days before that? They also seem to use really high quality meat. Beyond that, it is the typical assembly line approach - choose your condiments, etc. I recommend the #6 Mike's way. This is probably my favorite cold Italian style sub in town. Really good. The cheese steak is also pretty tasty, although not too authentic. One note to Jersey Mike's management. Those little shards of lemon rind that you are trying to pass off as lemon slices for iced tea are a joke. Do us all a favor and either serve up some real lemon pieces or just get rid of them. It is ridiculous! I'm paying you almost $10 bucks for a sandwich, chips and a drink. The least you can do is give me .10 worth of lemon! read more

A friend of mine turned me on to Jersey Mikes, ironically his name was Mike as well...coincident....!!! i think not! hahaha anyways I walked in saw the griddle and the man flippin some cheese teaks and immediately i was in love. I LOVE my cheese steak's I love 'em but being in Austin its hard to find a place that makes them at least mediocre let alone amazing. Ohh and no Texadelphia crap. This sub shop is better than most. The meat is sliced fresh. That scores big points with me. The subs come in large and extra large (my observation not their sizing), I ordered the 8 inch Reuben. The kraut was fine but there really wasn't enough to my taste. I like a neat sandwich, but I also want the twang of sauerkraut. The flavor was very good. The bread was not anything extraordinary but it was warm and soft. A hot sandwich should always be wrapped in foil, and they know this. The fact that they carried baked cheetos was cool. The service was fast and friendly. The crowd was almost all professional people which I would probably attribute to the slightly higher prices, but you get a slightly larger sandwich so it evens out. No seating was available when I went in, but from what I remember you don't have to wait too long. However, you do have to make your move. No moseying. I would give this place 5 stars but I have to check out more of their sandwiches before I know. read more

This place has the best cold sandwiches in town. I think the secret is everything is freshly cut like you're in a deli - no meat sitting in little dishes all day like at Subway. They're not stingy with the toppings, and they have quite the variety of different meats and cheeses and everything else you'd want on your sandwich. I recommend getting your sandwich "Mike's Way", with seasonings, oil, & vinegar. It's not a budget sandwich, expect $6 for a medium (7") or $9 for a large (14"). The "large" size sandwitch is MASSIVE. Even on my hungriest days, I can barely finish one. It's all good, but I prefer the Super Club w/ mayo & bacon. I don't know how they do it, but they have the flattest, crispiest, tastiest bacon in the world for their sandwiches. Also, props for serving Pepsi products including Code Red in the fountain. IMHO the only other sandwich in town that rivals it is the Philly Cheese Steak from Delaware Subs. 3.5 stars is a bit more accurate. Look, I love a good Philly cheesesteak - beef or chicken - and they serve a pretty good one. But I can't believe a place called Jersey's doesn't have a condiment table for them. Sorry but a real cheesesteak place had a spot or on each table - mayo, mustard (2 kinds), ketchup, tabasco, salt and pepper - at the minimum. Not one. We routinely make the drive from South Austin just for Jersey Mike's. I'd be willing to drive even farther if needed. If you've not been, let me line out your introductory sandwich. #2, Mike's Way (IIRC lettuce, onion, tomato, oil, vinegar, spices). Add mayo, pickles and jalapenos. Jesus Christ. That sandwich ties my brain in knots, every single time. I wind up pacing and mumbling outside, napkin still tucked into my shirt. My girlfriend has to find me and load me into the car. I simply love this place...I'm from Jersey...I'm a Jersey girl at heart...their #13 is as close to a sub from home as I'm gonna get in TX. It's a good Jersey sandwich in TX. Jersey Mike's is a decent sub but I am not overly crazy about it. I have tried a couple of items and they were good but something about them rubbed me the wrong way. I had the roast beef and the meat was good but the lettuce was cheap and the tomatoes were bland. The roast beef was perfect though. I would honestly order this sandwich again just due to the roast beef. If they would upgrade the quality of their veggies this would be the best roast beef sandwich I have had at a sub chain. I have also had the club and it was ok. Wasn't a big fan of their ham and the bacon was thin and kinda got lost in the sandwich. Same issue with the veggies here. These guys are heads and shoulders above Subway but not as good as Firehouse Subs or Jimmy Johns. Decent work lunch option because they are quick and they have a ton of combinations. read more

I typically get cold sandwiches so my review will be based on the cold sandwiches that I have been eating from there for the past couple of years. I remember when Jersey Mike's was a small NJ chain and opened up a sub shop in my hometown in the 1990's. I hadn't realized they franchised until I spotted this branch. The #2 sub is just as I remembered and is a faithful rendition of the classic Italian sub found throughout most of NJ and in Philly. Ham, provolone, and capicola (salami). Usually topped with lettuce, tomato, raw onions, oil & vinegar, salt, and pepper. If you order mayo or mustard, you should be smacked. The hoagie roll is soft and chewy. I like to add potato chips to mine for extra salt and crunch. I don't find myself at this location very often (Costco runs) but I'm glad to know it's here. Really excellent sandwiches. Seriously. I still like Subway and Jimmy John's, but I prefer Jersey Mike's the most. Okay, maybe the Jimmy John's beach club rivals the same quality, but still. I like to get the chicken salad sandwich, "Mike's way" but there are lots of others that are good. I think the bread really makes a difference in the taste, (you can buy it separately if you want), and I love the oil they put on it too. Mike's is pretty much what you would expect from a sub place, but done really well. Everything always tastes really fresh to me. The only thing I would recommend is getting a mini sized sub. Every time I have gotten a normal sized sub, it has been too much, and it was a little more than I wanted to pay. Believe me -- a mini is filling. I know I am a smallish girl, but it fills up my fiance, too. I think that's all that needs to be said. It's worth trying at least once. read more

IM SO FIRED UP RIGHT NOW! Oh my god, I cant believe I just fell in love with a CHAIN sandwich place! I love phillys... they are sacred to me. They are my holy mecca. This philly... its the one that lives in my mind. I got the Big Kahuna (Philly w mushrooms onions jalapenos green peppers and extra cheese), without peppers or jalapenos *just personal preference*. They cut the meat and cheese in front of you, when you order! No mystery products. The cheese is rich and melty and compliments the flavorful, savory beef just right. The mushrooms and onions have just the right amount of doneness to create texture without snap. And the bread... the bread is soft like a pillow but strong like a matress. This is a balanced sandwich. I hate, repeat, HATE overdone imbalanced, get on Man Vs Food sanwiches. Just make it proportional, dont let any one ingredient outshine another. This sandwich accomplished that, subsequently she aint pretty, but shes got a heart of gold. Dude.... Im not even washing my hands or brushing my teeth immediately after lunch like I normally would. Have not came into this place for a while, they used to be my go-to sandwich shop whenever I think of a yummy sandwich for lunch. Two things seems to have changed between my last visit a few months ago and the most recent visit. Customer Service and portion . The guys behind the counter seem to rush to get orders done and not bother for great customer service. I asked for customized toppings, I can read the impatience on their faces. Not to mention they were not very generous with smiles. Being patient, friendly and welcoming and providing a smile is totally optional in customer service as long as you get your job done. I guess that's how robots are going to take over the counter jobs in the future. Robot can do almost everything, including smiling and being patient when taking customer order . Sandwich has decreased in size. $10 for a very small sandwich. Guess it is the cause of the inflation, it should not be the fault of this sandwich shop, right? read more

I really love Jersey Mikes. Craved their subs like crazy during both of my pregnancies and I felt okay eating there (despite the advice not to eat lunch meat while pregnant due to possibility of listeria) since they slice their meat and cheese freshly. I always get one of the clubs and think it's kind of weird that they ask if you want the bacon and mayo that comes on it. Of course I do! Today though they left it off even though I said yes and it just wasn't the same : ( Just watch them assemble the sandwich so there's no mistakes. When I moved to Austin in 2007, I was taken to thundercloud subs, which had all its meats sliced and in Tupperware, **worse than Subway**. I have had Philly cheese steaks from coast to coast. (Including at the original Pats and Geno's which are across the street from each other in Philly). I found the location on research at the 360 first. then I was living in Lakeway and working out at 24 hour fitness at 183 & 620 so I drove by the Anderson mill and 620 location everyday. I never grew tired of this place. fresh cut deli meats, fresh bread and my personal favorite, the "Philly" and Austin feels like home. The first location (183 & 360) felt a little like a independent shop, the one at 620 and Anderson mill feels like a franchise. The food is always good at either of those locations so it could feel like a taco truck for all I care. I do not drive by as much since buying a home in Round Rock, but when I am in the area, I bring home enough for 3-4 days. (which only lasts until lunch the day, maybe Dinner) I have taken several friends to one of these locations at one point or another over the past five years, including the one who took me to thundercloud, each and every one of them will never drive by one without stopping. I liked "which wich" for awhile but it started getting old. Jersey Mikes is the place! Order the veggie sub...First of all, there is only 2 types if bread, not much of variety of veggies and only have a choice between oil or seasonings. If you're open until 9:00 pm, @JerseyMikesATX, then you should keep making sandwiches until then. If you don't want to work that late, then close earlier. Either way, don't allow your technology to accept an online orders close to closing time, if you're not willing to provide the product. I usually stay away from franchises as much as possible. Jersey Mike's is an exception to the rule. First, there is the bread. It is soft, but not chewy. It compliments the sandwich without dominating the taste. Second, the ingredients are always fresh. Never have I experienced soggy lettuce or tomatoes which aren't ripe here. The meats are always tasty, even though I was a little put off by the name of the procuttino. Finally, the cheesesteaks. They are the reason I keep coming back. Sure, I'll order other subs occasionally, but I secretly want to order the cheesesteak every visit. The combination of the steak, cheese and bread make an ideal philly. I highly suggest the addition of mayo. The quality of the subs here is consistent and the service has always been great. They have a good rewards program which nets me a free sub every few months. I don't know if every location is this good, but I will be a frequent customer as long as I live in north Austin. read more

I might have had higher expectations than I should have going into it. The sandwiches were good. I liked the fresh sliced meat and the shredded lettuce. The vinegar and oil combo was great. BUT the place was super cramped. I took my 3 young children here and it was a huge headache. The prices are also rather high for a sub shop. Definitely better than subway, and it's nice to have a fresh non-greasy option for a meal. read more

I really dig that they ask you about bacon (I ordered a regular club supreme, mike style X mayo and swiss) He got the large Big Kahuna. He didn't hate it, just not a fan of the bread. He ate the rest of my sub while half of his still sits. Obviously everyone is different but in my experience they do way better with cold subs unless you can eat whatever hot sub you order immediately.
