The plate comes with a side salad and maduros- caramelized fried ripe bananas and white rice and black beans- generous portions of everything. 2. Arroz con pollo: chicken and rice exists in almost every culture, but the Cuban version is the one I would choose first any day. This was the boys fav. The dinner plate also comes with maduros and salad. 3. Papas rellenas- "potato balls" on the menu- stuffed mashed potato spheres with seasoned ground beef then lightly breaded and deep fried for a perfect crispy coat- excellent! They have 3 varieties and we tried the spicy chicken and the ground beef- both were delicious! 4. Croquetas: deep fried breaded ground ham rolls. Decadent and perfectly crispy outside and velvety inside. These were my hardest craving when I was pregnant. Love them! 5. Guava pastries- sweet with a little hint of tartness- wrapped in puff pastry. It was too late in the day for me to order coffee but I will have to make a cup of Bustelo tomorrow morning to go with these. We were too full to eat them today! 6. Iron Beer: our fav soda! Even sweeter than coke- shocking, lol! I also tried the kola champagna- a Puerto Rican staple but imo, IronBeer wins. I would buy them for the boys a couple times a year whenever I stumbled upon a Caribbean market that stocked them and they've been fans for life.
