Unbelievably rude "hostess" or owner? I guess maybe I wasn't dressed well enough or I look stupid? I went in in a perfectly clean Carhartt T-shirt, and a decent pair of men's shorts and went up to the takeout counter where I was met with a sneer and I said I'd like a menu so I can order food to go. The menu was handed to me and about five minutes later the worker (about 68 years old) came back and ignored me for a little while while arranging some things on the counter and then asked me if I was ready to order. I asked whether the sausage for the pizza was sliced or crumbled and she said it was sweet sausage so I asked is it crumbled or sliced and she said sliced. Then I asked if they put fresh mushrooms or canned mushrooms on the pizza and she said they have fresh and blanched mushrooms and I asked what blanched mushrooms are (because I'm certain they don't blanch the goddamn things there themselves). And she threw her hands up, waving them and saying loudly those are what SOME PEOPLE call "canned mushrooms". I wanted to ask if she always ridiculed the choice of words of the people who would have spent their money there, but instead I just quietly rolled my eyes and left. I'm not exactly sure what I did wrong to deserve all of the attitude, but this place is not going to get any money from me and I'm certainly not going to recommend it to anybody. I moved to the area recently and I'm just finding places to visit or to eat at. Not that it matters, but I know that my income is about four to 6 times the average income of any of the local folks, and I only like to patronize mom and pop stores, never chains. Had dinner there the other night. It was a good, solid meal, but nothing stood out as outstanding. The pizza oven was not fully running on arrival, so we all opted for pasta dishes. The pasta was a little past Al dente. The sauce was tasty. The meatball seemed previously frozen and not homemade, and the sausage had been cut in half lengthwise and burnt along the whole bottom of both sides. The salad was generous serving of fresh veggies. We found it odd that a pub didn't have a fryolator. Apparently the wings, fries, onion rings, etc are baked and not fried. I like an extra crispy wing (not sure how you get that baked) which is why I went with pasta instead. Pazzo was ok and served with the good sauce. We would probably be back as not a lot of options in Gray, but would not seek it out. read more

This was my first visit here. I love the local dive vibe. I came in the middle of the afternoon, and the bar was full of what I'm sure were local regulars. I ordered a bowl of chili and an order of onion rings and a Diet Coke. I asked for onions and cheese on the chili. My waitress was super friendly and nice. All of the staff seemed to be in a great mood and we're very friendly towards everyone there. When I got my chili, I got a big spoonful and it was cold. I know people and restaurants say things are cold when they're really just not very hot. This was actually cold chili with unmelted cheese on top. I started on the onion rings while waiting on my server to return. They were OK. For nearly 7 dollars I felt like the portion was not very large. It was actually an appetizer portion of onion rings and this definitely wasn't large enough to share with other people. When my server returned, I asked her to heat up my chili, which she did. The chili was OK, although it was absolutely full of beans. Very, very been heavy. Not a whole lot of actual meat. I tried to pick out a lot of the beans so that I could enjoy the chili. Again, it was just OK. When I got my bill, it was $19.50 which I think is ridiculously expensive for a bowl of chili, onion rings, and a Diet Coke. I was up, charged one dollar for adding cheese and one dollar for adding onion. I think chili should come with cheese, onion, and sour cream. You shouldn't be up charged for each ingredient that you add. I understand this place needs to make money and what not, I just thought their prices were expensive for what it was. Overall, I would come back to try the pizza, which I think is their mainstay. I discovered after that they had a pizza special. two 10 inch one topping pizzas for $15. Which is a great deal. I wish I had gotten that! I'm willing to try anything twice, especially this place because the wait staff were so friendly. If I could give a NO star, I would. If you want to pay for overpriced and disgusting food, go to Jess n Nic's! Firstly, I've ordered 3 times from them now. Today is my last time. First two times were below average. Second time ordering, they messed up the pizza order. I ordered half cheese, half veggie. What I got: mostly cheese and a sloppy small pile of veggie toppings on the pizza that equated to: 1/8 veggie pizza, 7/8 cheese pizza. This time, ordered a large veggie pizza with hamburg. What I got was a disgustingly soggy and and over topped pizza that smelled of old shoes and wet dog. The pizza had so much toppings that when I attempted to pull out a slice of pizza, MOST of the toppings fell out of the slice and plopped down on the pizza box in a disgusting way. My husband and I couldn't even finish our first slice... For a "PIZZERIA" you'd think their pizza was something to talk about. Well in this case, they are definitely something to talk about alright.. The best part was the fucking side of fries... What we got was a stale, cold cardboard-like order of fries. It was so hard and dry that when I took a bite, my soul left my body and died. I like J n N's! Foods always good, people are always nice, and the game is always on the TV. My bro in law may not, but I do. We're from New York, were the standard for pizza is extremely high and we get violent if it doesn't meet our standard. J n N's may not be NY pizza, but it's got a great property of its own. Three words: white Greek pizza. It's AMAZING!!!! Truly - it's so good, I don't want to order anything else! So I always go with a group and we do some sharing! Buffalo Wings are yummy - good heat, and flavor to boot!!!! The classic pizzas are always good, satisfying with a good crust. LOVE the pastrami sandwich - a classic with a good cut and seasoning- and real yellow mustard - nothing goes better! The prices are decent, you don't leave feeling broke. Friends and family swear by other offering, including Italian-American red sauces, meatballs and the like. The casual dining atmosphere is lively and nicely lit. It's a cheerful place to eat with friends and family and has become a "go-to" eatery for residents in Gray and New Gloucester. They have optimized the available space to include all the trappings of quaint, casual dining as well as a small bar and a booming carry-out. They don't take reservations as a rule. Went here there last night. Saw sign on the door that said, "we have the a/c on. This is summer, dress accordingly." My husband said people must be complaining about it being cool in here. I commented they are saying its summer dress accordingly, means wear shorts and tee shirts. Anyway, I always bring a sweater into restaurants because they may have the a/c too high. Boy did they ever. People were wearing jackets. My husband had to go back to the car and get our sweatshirts and he never needs a sweater in a restaurant. And I had to put my sweatshirt on top of my sweater. As to the food. We ordered a pizza with light cheese. The pizza came with loaded cheese and half the crust burnTwo of us eating it and we could not even finish it. These folks take every part of the pizza seriously! Seriously good New England pizza; red, white, and Greek. We've twice now had a red Veggie, loaded with super-high-quality fresh tomatoes, vegetables, plenty of Greek olives, and lots of genuinely outstanding mozzarella. Crust is out of this world, crisp on bottom, soft on top, not even slightly soggy, and full of bready flavor. Even the side salads were great. Friendly "local joint" atmosphere, and attentive staff. Sometimes you just want to go somewhere local have a beer and eat pub food. With very few choices in Gray my husband and I have found ourselves here a few times over the last few years. And each time after my meal I say I'm not going back. My husband is always willing to give them another chance since our options are limited in this town. Me I'm willing to drive somewhere else. First off service is always slow - the waitresses are friendly enough but seem distracted and are not attentive to drink orders. I'm Italian and this certainly is not a good representation of "Italian" food. I'm not sure they know how to cook a calzone. Every time I've ordered one the pizza dough is cooked on the outside and the toppings are cold or still frozen on the inside (don't bother with adding eggplant it's frozen solid). I've even tried ordering toppings that wouldn't be frozen first and they arrive cool and the cheese not melted in the middle. They don't offer marinara dipping sauce unless you ask for it (the waitress seemed confused the first time I asked she said the sauce is inside the calzone. (Yeah I know that thank you.). Each time I've asked they forget to bring it with the order. Then you wait 10 minutes for the waitress to bring it over. Not sure why it takes so long to put the sauce in a ramekin - I'm sure their not heating it because nothing is ever warm or hot. Oh and by the way they charge extra for this. My husband knows the owner through work related things and explained to him what happened with the undercooked food. Never once did he apologize just said a few stupid jokes and said the kids in the kitchen sometimes forget to warm things up first. It was a year before we went back again. --- same thing calzone cold in the middle. Guess those kids in the kitchen still don't know how to do their job. Don't waste your time here! read more
