Place is never consistent and takes awhile. This is one of my favorite spots, so I come here with some patience. However, the last couple of times have been extremely disappointing. Longer wait than usual, for lower quality food than usual. I ordered steak tips medium well, and as you can clearly see, they are not. Watery teriyaki sauce with no solution provided other than "there's nothing wrong with it". I've gotten this dish plenty of times and it never looks like this. Won't be back for awhile. read more

This is my first ever review of any restaurant. we visited Mac's grill on Valentines night and I was looking forward to a well cooked steak. I'm currently eating carnivore so I figured I would order the largest steak on the menu which is a 22 ounce sirloin. I ordered it medium rare which the menu says is red in the middle and warm. I'm 90 percent sure I received a very lean 22 ounce log of burger that was co to medium well to well done. It was barely pink in the very middle And not shaped like any siloin steak I've ever seen. Asian Shrimp salad, complete with RANCID Mandarin oranges. When my wife tasted it, she asked me to try the orange - it was almost fizzy. It was bad, as in really bad. Thankfully, they had put the grilled shrimp on the side, so we returned the large salad bowl (declined having another salad made, 'cause the salad she'd just eaten was pretty much a spoiler) - so she just ate the shrimp. The server essentially had ghosted us. Got the bill. The Asian Salad (complete, per the menu) was $16. They were charging us $14. What? No, "I'm sorry", no "Let us remove that from the bill." Absolutely horrible!! We ordered 2 burgers. Both turned out extremely under cooked after a few bites. We sent them back and after 20 minutes 2 burgers came back to the table. Not our burgers because the bites were different sizes and in different places than what we sent back. We were happy to be pointed to this restaurant by another local resident at Firehouse Grille( unfortunately their kitchen was closed.) The servers were very pleasant and sweet. We were greeted and sat - they have a huge bar and a separate dining room too. I ordered a Caesar salad with no protein. The sals was huge. The coupons were crispy and solid. LAST MINUTE call to see how late you're kitchen is serving. We were happy to hear 9. We wanted a good steak. Came here because menu online was great. Got there and were seated right away. Our server Brianna was cheery and attentive even while doing her closing duties. We knew what we were going to order before we sat down- because we knew kitchen was closing in 25 minutes. Ribeyes were RARE there was NO garlic butter on his ribeye that he asked for- we figured because cook was rushingbecausehe wantedto be done working. Everything had been going good We were ok with rare, better than over cooked. At that point we planned on taking steaks back to where we were staying and cooking a bit more.. We asked a couple times if we were holding them up (our waitresses another waitresses and the bartender) They said -no take our time eating they still had all their closing duties. We still rushed eating. We are in the food and beverage business we totally understand and appreciated them seating us so close to closing. We ended up getting half our meal Togo so not to hold them up anymore. We chatted & joked around with our server throughout our meal. We paid by card and gave a cash tip which was 40% of our bill. . $50 We handed her the cash tip- no thank you from our server. We boxed our food up to finish at our cabin. I used bathroom 1 last time and as I walked towards my husband and the door to leave 1 of the workers came out of the kitchen (which server station and doors to kitchen are right by hall to bathroom horrible set up especially for workers on a busy night) the employee from kitchen says to our server and another " Tell them get the f@#k out we're closed." looking in our direction. We hadn't been here in about 3 years. It was always excellent and it still is! We have been all over the country and were looking for a good steak. We thought Kansas would have good steak but Mac's Grill was much better. It was the best steaks we have had in a long time. And the prices were very reasonable. I've been twice now and after the first time I gave them another chance big mistake. First off they can't cook a steak to save their life. I got cactus dust seasoning on my rib eye and the only flavor was the charcoal taste from burning it. Steak was very thin especially for a 16 oz. Went for a late lunch last Saturday and the place was busy but we got seated right away in the bar area which we requested. We ordered the potato skins as an appetizer and they were very good. I ordered the wrangler cut steak and it was delicious and cooked perfectly. My girlfriend had an all American burger which was also cooked perfectly. Our server was very attentive and checked on us often to see if we had everything we needed. We go to Mac's two or three times a years and we enjoy it every time. How hard is it to cook something well done. u send it back to be fixed and it comes back to you still not well done, You have to send it back again. Their spicy grilled wings is a must have! It's probably the best wings around Maine. I always have to order a double batch. It tasted like they were deep fried and then tossed with cheese. This place EXCEEDED my expectations! My first visit was on a bustling Saturday night and since it was my first unplanned visit; I was unaware that it is best to have reservations or be prepared to wait at least 30-45 minutes to be seated. They have bar seating, TVs that make it great for a sporting hangout, and another side of a dining area if you wish to have a little more intimacy during your visit. The food was amazing!!! I mean really amazing! I had the ever so generous portion of the Filet Mignon, Garlic Potatoes, and a House Salad. It was prepared exactly to my specifications and was a sheer delight to my taste buds. The hostess has been at that establishment for over 20 years which serves as a testament to the establishment. Over all a great place to be! While the Mini MAC is a good steak, I always forget that it is a filet sirloin and not Mignon. If you're looking for the tenderness of a filet Mignon, or the Mac's Filet Mignon. You can ask for the run tray to try a sampling of the many run flavors available for your steak. It's fun to do especially if you're on a date or with the family. The restaurant is clean and the staff are mostly friendly. If you're looking to eat dinner there with a group of 4 or more, make reservations. And if you're going for a special event, make reservations as soon as you know. They can sometimes book several weeks to a few months in advance. read more

Really great food for decent price! My partner and I took a mini staycation for labor day weekend up in Auburn. For dinner, we stopped by Mac's. It's a bit rustic in look but not in a bad way; wooden interior with seating for many. I ordered the mini mac steak (10oz sirloin) with the garlic mashed and upgraded for $3 to get the mac n cheese. It was the perfect amount of food. I left full but not feeling gross. I like my steak a true medium well which is so hard to find so I just ordered it medium to be safe, a choice I regret because they actually do real steak temps! The potatoes were silky smooth and the crumble on the Mac n cheese was divine. My partner you the special with a 6 oz sirloin and scallops au gratin. They accidentally sent him mac n cheese instead of onion rings. The waitress realized it when she set it down, left the extra Mac n cheese with us and magically turned with onion rings fresh out of the fryer in about 3 minutes. It was a very impressive recovery and they didn't charge us the $3 upgrade for them. Whole meal for two including multiple beers for each was around $77. In Portland, you'll pay about $125 for the same meal. read more

This was my first time here with my family for my little sisters birthday. We started off with buffalo grilled wings and potato skins. Both were great, until we ordered our entrées. I got the Mac 'n cheese with grilled chicken. I ate one piece and then I went to take another one when I noticed it was pink. I have been coming here for many years and am a local customer and even supported them with takeout when COVID shut everything down, now they are charging me with a take out fee in the amount of $6 for 3 salads and 3 soups! Come on, we are the customers that saved you business during these hard times!
