Worth the drive, worth the $$. If you like saisons, farmhouse ales, funky sours, or just adventure in a glass, this is your place. One nice feature is that they're usually happy to do 4 oz pours (and often 8 oz pours too) in addition to a full glass. So if you want to try a wide selection of beers, you can easily do that while trading off with water. In addition to their own beer, they've got excellent guest taps and an always-solid local cider selection too. The indoor and outdoor bars as well as the take-home bottle payment systems are all linked, so once you open a tab you can use it at all the locations. It's also on the same route as a couple of other distilleries (Revolution and Treaty Oak), a cidery (Argus), and brewery (Last Stand), so you can easily make this a full day trip. They're pretty active on social media and sport a frequently updated website, so check those to see what's on tap or for special hours around the holidays. read more

OOOHHH Man! Are you in for a treat! This place is AMAZE-LAIB (I dont have balls!) Such amazing beers...the sours were my faves! But I tried a bunch of other stuff too. This is my favorite brewery in austin and one of my favorites breweries in the world (looking at you, #1 Russian River). Coming here is just an amazing experience. It's a huge farm-style place with tons of picnic tables set up all over the place for seating. They sell bottles to go and have some great selections of house beers. And Stanley's farmhouse pizza is phenomenal. It's a pizza place here on the farm and wow is it amazing. They've got lots of lawn games and the place is dog (and kid) friendly. $10 bucks to try 9-12 beers? Pretty awesome. I've never been to a brewery but I thought this was something a guy would enjoy so we drove out here on a Saturday. It's nice with two people but would be even better if you gather up a group of friends, some snacks and some games. I'm not a huge beer fan but I was ready to buy a few bottles after my trip to Jester King. These were really unique beers. Some were like a wine version of beer, others sour and some thick, dark and heavy. Make sure to ask whoever is pouring the beers in the tap room which ones will run out the fastest so you can try those first. We tried 10 of the 12 beers, unfortunately the one I really wanted to try was all gone. The staff was super sweet, which was a plus. After gushing over my dimples one of the ladies in the tap room wondered if I was 21, which I found hilarious after a few drinks. It was probably because I kept saying "omg it's like a milkshake!" every time she poured a really foamy beer. The drive isn't too bad and the location is great. It gets pretty packed so come around 12, order some pizzas, bask in the sunlight and wait for them to open at 1. We got there around 1230, which was plenty of time, but as the afternoon went on the line outside the brewery started to wind down the sidewalk and into the parking lot. Overall it was a great time and made me truly happy that I made the move to Austin. read more

I went here for the Open The Taps event. While the line was long, it moved quickly. Many of the attendees would go right back to the end of the line, finishing their beers in plenty of time for the next pour. I had the Petit Prince, which was nice, but I don't think I would go very far out of my way to get more. read more

Went here for a friends birthday, I've never felt more cheated out of my money in my life. Bought half a pound of ribs that even the people I went with thought was a pitifully presentation for a "half pound of ribs" mostly bone. The macaroni portions are ridiculous it could feed three people but it probably wouldn't since tastes so bad, shell veleveta from a grocery story runs circles around this mac and cheese. The only descent thing was the "Ted lasso" cookie. Don't order food here, they are the reason I don't trust food from many breweries. read more

Jester King is at the top of my trifecta of my favorite local breweries, sharing the honor with Adelbert's and South Austin Brewing. The tour and selection of beers on tap make it reign supreme on the list. The tour will run you $10, but you get a nice JK glass (Saison stemware!) and 6 half-pours of stellar beer. If you facebook them, they'll post the list of available beers (including guest taps, usually imports), though I've never been really disappointed by what's been on tap there. About the tour -- on the ones I've been on, the owner himself conducts it, and he'll run you through the entire process, from start to finish, explaining each step, explaining each room and hardware, explaining all the local and imported ingredients. For me, the tour gave me a deeper appreciation for the art of Jester King beer, it invested me into loving the styles they produce, and I've been as hardcore of a fan as I can possibly be, having been on those tours. My one gripe about Jester King is that what I taste on tap is typically NOT what I taste out of the bottles I get at HEB or Twin Liquors. Several times I've been quite disappointed -- having fallen in love with an offering on tap at the brewery or whatever bar I'm at, I'll rush out, get a bottle, and it's just not the same. Still good, mind you, but the subtleties and nuances are off just enough to make me sad. That's the ONLY reason why this ain't a 5-star review. Because it's way out in BFE, Jester King is very much a destination location, and best enjoyed with friends or family who enjoy local craft beer. The upside is once you are there, you can stay for hours, as there's a pizza place out there now, and places to sit in the shade. If you like craft beers made in Texas, if you especially like Belgian styles as much as I do, you owe it to yourself to make the drive out and experience the tour and the beers on tap directly at the source. While you're out there, pick up a shirt featuring their logo or any number of their award-winning labels. read more

This is my favorite brewery and my favorite beer, it is pure coincidence that it is also local. It is kind of a weird situation right now in that the beers JK sells in the stores aren't the best ones or the award winners. No knock on the ones in the store but unless you go to the tasting room, you don't know Jester King. Their new line of sour fruit beers are masterful world class complex works of art. Aurelian Lure, the Apricot one, is something special and Atrial Rubicite, the raspberry, is right along with it. Viking Metal, aged in gin barrels, is my favorite. RU-55 and Ol' Oi are also big standouts. Boxers Revenge is also amazing. All of the above are sadly, not yet in stores. So you gotta go. The farmland and atmosphere at Jester King is unmatched and relaxed. You can listen to music, eat pizza, and drink beers under the Live Oak trees Fri-Sun. It is an ideal setting in any Central Texas temperature from fucking hot to fucking cold. Makes a perfect place to bring visitors, it's hard to get any more Austin than this. read more

I went to Jester King brewery just outside of Austin with some friends on a Saturday. We were all really pleased with our experience! It was, however, scorching hot outside! So, we were thankful they provided (free) water to everyone to stay hydrated between beers. The process was easy - we walked up and an employee explained what to do/where to go for what beers, etc. They no longer provide tasting glasses. Instead you show up and pay for the beer you want, but you can get them in small 4 oz sized for tasting if that's what you fancy. They had lots of shaded areas to site and some outdoor games like corn hole. The beer tour was interesting! You just gather around at one of the designated times (1:30, 2:30, 3:30) and join. We loved it! When you are in the area, stop by! We tried many different beers and can't complain about any of them. :) read more

My friends and I did Jester King and Thirsty Planet breweries on the same Saturday since they are only about a mile away from each other. I highly recommend you do them both (especially if you are not in South Austin since it will be a bit of a drive for you to get out there). Jester King is any time from 1-4pm. It cost $10 but you get three full glasses of beer and a pint glass to keep with the tour. The beer is good. The environment at Jester King is awesome. Big open space to hang out with cornhole to play and shaded places to relax and drink. read more

As far as breweries go in Austin, this is as good as it gets. Jeff Stuffings couldn't have been a better host. The brewery is located out in the Hill Country on a nice size plot of land, so parking isn't a problem at all. Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza is conveniently located on the same property and offers some great tasting pies and a huge covered eating area in case the Texas sun is attempting to zap out every ounce of your beer drinking energy. For $10 you get a Jester King sampling glass and a ticket to try ~10 beers, most from the brewery itself and a few guest beers. Their use of farmhouse yeast yields a vary particular and unique taste but it's quite pleasant and complex. The tour consists of 2 buildings; the large fermantation tank room, and the barrel room. Jeff gives you a little inside info on the brewing, aging, and bottling process. After the tour, my party requested to see the coolship, which is a stainless vessel used to ferment beer. It's not the most exciting structure, but as a beer enthusiast it was cool to see it and nice of Jeff to take time out to show us. As the cherry on top, before the brewery opened, Jeff allowed a party of about 20+ people to partake in a bottle share in which he joined in on himself. He couldn't have been more hospitable and friendly. I definitely recommend checking this place out as I plan on revisiting again in the near future! read more

I have no clue why I only gave them 4 stars to begin with... chalk it up to not knowing what I was talking about back then. Loved my experience at Jester king. Everyone is so nice and thoughtful. Let me say this first I don't generally write reviews ever. So I went here with friends and it was magically. You can tell the nature is prestigious and loved. I went on the farm tour which was amazing shout out to farmer Pepe. I took a chance on their chocolate coffee stout babka and bought a whole loaf. It was BOMB as FORK. It is hard to make a babka let me tell you. This one was FORKING perfect. Perfection, great chocolate to bread ratio, it was a spin on a traditional one with chocolate, coffee and stout. I met the baker and he was so nice. Y'all dudes gotta keep doing great. Nothing negative at all about the whole place. The energy of the whole place was great. read more

Think vineyard. This is the most picturesque brewery spot I've ever seen. Everyone says it's far out, but it's not that far. I bet they host some beautiful weddings and parties here. As you drive up, it looks like a ranch farm. You notice the wood fire pizza oven barn with the airstream out-house. Then you see the party barn beyond complete with chandeliers, stage and dance floor. The main building is the brewery. It's pretty. The brewery features a small tap room and large conditioned barrel room on either side of the tank area. Jester King makes crazy experimental beers and a visit to the source is a great way to pick up new batches and specialty releases. This is a must stop for any beer lover. read more

I'm surprised to see I haven't reviewed this; I'd be remiss if I let another day pass without giving JK props. Love it. Love the bag the shoes, love everything, LOVE IT. If you like the outdoors and like beer, this is a winner. The property is HUGE and you can hide away at the fringes or post up at the firepit with a few folks, or be social and park it at the huge family style picnic tables. Eitehr way, you are guarenteed to have a great time wasting the day away with booze and friends. I've heard people say they don't like JK because they don't like JK beers. Well, those people are crazy. Yes, they have loads of JK beer on tap and in bottle (for take home too), but they also have TONS of other beers, on tap and in bottles. If you don't like what you see at the "main bar" check out the little side ones (often offering something different) and Stanley pizza which has a whole different selection of beers too! Free tours ftw. No matter how many people show up, there is still somehow parking; note it's a dirt "lot." Other tips: Get there early. If not, I recommend grabbing a beer, and if you are in a hurry, just get back in line. Bathrooms are in a airstream. Really. It's quite nice actually, but in case that is a problem, wait it out, since I believe they are building bathrooms. The pizza is great, get it. Or, just bring a picnic, pretty sure anything but other alcohol goes (though if you have a non-beer fan with you, I suspect you could sneak another treat in...) Kid and pet-friendly. read more

It's fascinating to learn about the locally-cultivated components (on-property well water, native yeast, etc.) that coalesce together in the brewing process. Amazing, world-class brewery that is well worth the drive outside of Austin to visit. It's located on a ranch, with Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza basically attached. There's a tasting room, a tour available and another beer booth outside. We went on a Saturday evening, and while the beer lines got long at times, it was still a great time. You can get fantastic Jester King beers in tasting pours or fuller sizes, along with other great beers from other breweries. Jester specializes in farmhouse and sour beers but has enough of a selection to satisfy any palate. I enjoyed an Ol Oi, a Commercial Suicide and a 13 pct Russian imperial stout that was fantastic. Sitting outside, enjoying the weather and having a pizza while our friends' kids ran around in the great open space was a wonderful time. Loved it. read more

You can definitely spend a day (or more) at Jester King. The property is very spacious and inviting, don't get intimidated by the parking lots on the entry. They really ring true on the Farmhouse style, bringing together all the comforts of hill country with delicious well-made beers. If you're hungry or have companions that don't want to dweeb out on beer, the pizzeria on the property makes some really great meals and has space hang out and relax. They brew some delicious beers here, and how else to sample them aside from stopping by and paying $10 dollars to try a wide variety of what they offer? I lived in Austin for four or so years and never heard of this place. A good friend of ours recommended that we head out there while we were visiting recently and it's pretty fantastic! It's not as far of a drive as Fredericksburg and has a lot of picnic benches to sit at. They make amazing pizzas and have both their own speciality sour beers and beers from around the area. I'm not sure what it's like in the dead heat of summer but when the weather is nice (not too hot, not too wet) it's a great destination. read more

Best Brewery Ever. The property is amazing. Much larger than most breweries. The beer selection was huge and they even offer beers from other breweries, which I've never encountered. The tours are optional but I did attend one of them because that stuff interests me. This is one of the most unique breweries in their approach to beer, as anyone who's tried their brews can tell you. There are plant of places to sit and enjoy yourself, both outside and under cover if need be. The pizzas made in that brick oven onsite are also fantastic. They even have room for kids to run around and play. Water is constantly available and any real beer drinker know the importance of this. Shirts, glasses, etc are available for sale as well as bottles and bombers to go. This is by far my favorite brewery! read more

This place is so amazingly beautiful inside and out and the drinks are amazing but what really got me is when when I went to the restroom as a 5 foot one female most mirrors I cannot see into you I looked down and there's a fucking foot store LOL and then I look over and there's a jar full of tampons then as they come out of the bathroom laughing about it the amazing sweet bartender AJ gave me a few more free drinks to sample. This is a beautiful property. Would be a great place for parties and weddings. Wide open space, great artisan pizzas, original brews you won't see anywhere else. Picnic tables, beautiful shade trees. So many pluses. I had never had sour beers. They are definitely an acquired taste, very different fro my our traditional beer, but tasty none the less. For those less adventurous the pizza place has more traditional local beers such as Pecan Porter and Firemen's 4. Was expecting a large, indoor, adult experience, but this was a beautiful country outdoor family friendly location. read more

This is a world-class brewery. My wife and I traveled to Austin over the Labor Day weekend and this place was a must visit for me. It's about 20 minutes outside of Austin and when you arrive you don't feel like you're in a big city at all. The setting is very rural with the brewery located in a large renovated barn. All of the seating is outdoors and it does get hot in Austin, but they did a good job at providing shade at most tables. There was also a nice breeze. The beer itself is fantastic. They make some of the best fruited sours I have ever had, and I've had a lot. Their saisons are also delicious. If you get beer to go make sure you buy a case and then you will get 10% off. read more

The tour is a little long and not very hands on, but you will learn a lot and it's obvious that the tour guide really believes in the passion behind Jester King. October 2018. Four out of five. We stopped here on the recommendation of our tour guide while visiting Austin. Austin seem to be somewhat behind our local beer scene. They were still in a rapid expansion stage of growth. Jester King seems to be both a competent Brewery and a good event space with good food options. Many places like this Focus too much on one of those aspects while not paying enough attention to the others. This is not appear to be the case here. The beer was good probably one of the better ones we visited while in town. Most of the seating areas if not all of them are Outdoors which usually isn't the problem. It reminded me a lot of local venue that while enjoyable doesn't quite have the quality of beer that we enjoyed while here. If you're looking for a good place to spend an afternoon or even a day this would be a good option. The beers were more complex than some of the offerings from the breweries in town and the pizzas were actually quite good as well. We definitely recommend stopping here if you are in town. read more

THE BEST brewery in TX. Period! have been here many, many times to sit around and enjoy a brew or to grab a box and go. Had some bosses in from UK last year and took them here. They absolutely loved the atmosphere and was excited to try some of their beer. It seems that through the years, they have gotten much busier and it kinda kills the small brewery atmosphere they had a few years or so back. It's now a bit too crowded for my pleasure and i find it's best to grab me a box or 2 of beer and head back home. still absolutely love this brewery, their beer, and the people! read more

Took a friend from out of town who is a big beer connoisseur out here for a day. While a definitely appreciated getting some rain in the Austin area recently, the parking and driveways at Jester King is not the best place to venture to when the ground isn't dry. Even in a SUV, we were skidding up the road to park and our shoes were covered in mud walking around. I'd definitely suggest throwing on a pair of boots. The lines were fairly long (we went on a Saturday on a day when there was a limited edition beer being sampled so not sure if this is the norm), so be sure to get a couple tastings when you order. My friend enjoyed most of the beers he tried. I, on the other hand, will admit I am not a beer fan so I was really happy to see them offering ciders and wines in addition to beer. Another added bonus was the killer pizzas they serve up which is perfect after a few adult beverages. read more
