They had some decent bottles of liquor there, but not a good selection of bourbon. So I went to Yelp and a place close by was recommended. I called Alameda liquor to make sure that I was not gonna make another unsuccessful trip. The young man, I spoke to told me I'd called the right place because they had one of the best bourbon selections in the area. He did not disappoint. They have some great bottles at all. Price ranges. He was also very kind and respectful to me as I was completely ignorant, but he worked with my friend on the phone to pick a perfect bottle for a holiday gift. Whether you know what you are doing when choosing a bottle of liquor or not, this place not only has the variety of choices, but also the knowledge and patience to work with you for the perfect bottle.

Having picked out two different cans from the beer cave, the clerk at the front counter rang them up and said "12". I paid, then headed into the L.A. night.... At a red light just down the road, I looked at the receipt: $12.93. Then it hit me that these didn't ring up correctly, and saying just "12" felt deceptive. Thankfully, I had asked for a receipt. One beer rang up as $5.39, and the other $6.39. Back at Circus Liquor a minute later, I pointed out to the same clerk that he had overcharged me... one can absolutely had a $4.99 sticker on it (and I, incorrectly, thought they both did). Pointing out the pricing discrepancy, he pointed at the can that didn't have a sticker and said "That one is $5.99." The receipt showed neither beer rang up at that price. Luckily, an older gentleman also working behind the counter stepped in at that moment and asked how we could resolve this. He offered for me to swap out the $4.99 beer for one more expensive to make up for the difference. That was fair enough for me. Yet, with the lack of prices, I looked for a fair trade and felt like my choices were limited. There are plenty of other options around and plenty that are completely transparent with their prices. Thus, I have no plans to stop by Circus Liquor again. If you do visit, I strongly recommend you ask for a receipt and check it! A second star is given only because the older clerk did a good job of diffusing the situation. The other guy was no help.
