Went to get some snacks today. The man behind the counter walked by me really slowly without excusing himself, pretending like he doesn't see me while we were the only two people in the store. Then I went to pay for my items, snickers bar, some chips and a Celsius. This man charged me just under $14. I thought to myself, maybe they just overprice things here, than I thought, but not that much. So I asked him how much are these items? How much is this, this and that... He started off with the chips 2$ and something.. Then the Celsius $2 and something So we both looked at the snickers bar then looked at each other: Then alll of a sudden he's like: "Oh oh oh yes you're right.. you're right.. I have an extra charge from my last customer oh oh oh." Of course he was monotone while saying this which confirms he knows what he's doing and was deliberate in stealing my money. When I said I think you're trying to steal from me he became very defensive in a childish way which further confirms my inclination about him. If you come here, double check the prices cause it felt like this was a habitual thing for him. His excuses were pathetic and was non compassionate to say the least. I was in Nelson's today and was met with extremely aggressive and Rude staff! Based on this very unsafe experience I will not be returning or recommending this liquor convenience store again. Great stop in for drinks... Really good place to find different verities of drinks/liquor... better prices than 7-Eleven; since they own a wholesale store right next to it. I have lived down the street from this liquor store, all of my life. As an adult, I have befriended the owners daughter, Caroline. Sako, Raoul, And Freddie are my friends. Always helpful and will order in special for you. Prices are great and service is friendly. They even bring my stuff to my car! Hate to go anywhere else. Simone, 1 * for candy?? Really. You're buggin. It's a liquor store, they happen to have a really vast selection of candy, though. Love my corner store! And getting to visit with lil homey is a plus. I keep coming back! They have all the drinks you need. Even ones you don't know exists. I'm an energy drink girl and they've got ones hard to find. Also, the place always has laid back, good vibes. From folks behind the counter to the customers that I see everyone is cool. When I needed a certain drink, I could not find it, they made sure to have someone check the back. They do it with a smile. I especially like the younger guys (no not that waaay) I mean, they really are personable and professional with always smiling and makes me feel appreciated for my business. NOTE: Today, I went in and I was feeling a bit down, not a good day basically and when I walked out I was all smiles and it dawned on me it's the first smile I had all day :) so yeah, I had to write a review because a sincere smile goes a long way these days. read more

HELLO SAM I went to Nelsons Liquor from the late70s to 2015. Iwas alway treated with great respect. A nice place to get booze , Cigs, cash checks and to chat with the people and customers.I felt like part of the family. I hope to visit California again in this is one of the first stops I will go. I came here to get my Metro pass. I used my debit card and the cashier tacked on a $2 charge onto it. I went back with cash and she asked me in a really bitchy attitude why I didn't use cash at first. Yes I am a fan. Have been going to this place for decades! Rode our bikes up there when we were kids for ice cream, candy, sodas, you name it they have a little bit of everything. The people behind the counter are always very courteous and will help you out with anything that you want or need. I would have loved to have given this place five stars and certainly would have if it were not for my only complaint and here it is. A lot of their merchandise is marked with a price but a substantial percentage of their stock is not! I have gone in there many times and have purchased the same exact assortment of items but have been charged various different prices for the same purchases. There is apparently a bar code scanner attached to their registers which would be great if they used that all the time for everything as a way to have pricing uniformity but they don't. Often the employee's will sit there momentarily and guess as to what the prices for various items and you are left to hope that their right! I don't like that. Its almost as if their guessing what the prices are for items that their not familiar with, come up with best guess and hope you don't notice. I have been short changed there more often then for it to just be coincidence so customers need to insure that your getting the appropriate change back because often you do not. Also remember to scrutinize your bill carefully if you are using a credit or debit card. Most people let them ring items up, quickly slide their cards and are in and out without even realizing that they might very well have been overcharged. In all fairness I have been undercharged in there before and was courteous enough to inform them by saying, " Hey I don't think you charged me enough! " which is then met with a look of surprise. If there is a bar code scanner there then why is it only used for a limited amount of items and not for everything ? Their accuracy in pricing store inventory is at best hit or miss. Please examine things carefully when they ring you up. Also a note to Nelson's directly. Laws written by and enforced by the Weights & Measures Bureau indicate that customers are expected to be presented with itemized receipts from retailers which Nelson's being a small independent neighborhood retailer is. Itemized receipts are a record for customers to examine so that they know they are being appropriately and fairly charged for the items they have purchased. As a matter of practice, Nelson's fails in this regard and simply presents receipts to customers that show a total and not itemized purchases. As I said previously I like this establishment. They have been in the neighborhood for decades and carry pretty much everything but their pricing policies and random "whatever they charge" practices are not good business and it is an important issue that needs to be addressed! read more
