During my drive home, sometimes to need to pick up a few things to make some dinner. This time, I needed to pickup 3 potatoes. As I was shopping, I found potatoes for $1.49 each. As I looked around more, I saw a 5 pound bag for .99 on sale. I also picked up some freeze dried strawberries. With two things in my hand, I headed over to the self checkout. It was a looonnng line. I looked over to the regular checkout and there plenty of lanes open width 1-2 people each. I went to one lane and was out in a flash. I like Jewel cause sales and service. Sales are great and if you have the app, it's easy to use and you can get additional coupons. read more

This was the first time I shopped at this Jewel because we were in the area and I need a few grocery items. The produce section was so congested there was a line to pick up some of the vegetables due to the lay out. The aisles were small and cramped in the produce. Check out had a line for self checkout. This Jewel is like most of the other Jewels in the area. The store is typically well stocked and the wait in lines is pretty reasonable. Of course there will be certain days where everything goes wrong and you can't get what you need, you get charged wrong, or the wait in line is too long. But that happens. Overall, they move lots of products so the produce and meat is pretty fresh and not sitting for ages turning funny colors. Grocery items are usually in stock and the Just For U deals can save you lots of money! I've had to return items here and there and the return policy is pretty user-friendly. Since the demise of Marianos, Jewel has become our primary grocery store. This Jewel and another I frequent meet all our grocery needs. This store is not perfect, but I have to say they do a fine job and my bad experiences are pretty far and few between. read more

When being at the store, this one older female employee with short hair and glasses was being aggressive,unkind and unhelpful with these people who were trying to buy something that was on sale. The employee wouldn't give them the discount (right away) even when the customers showed her proof that it was on sale. I stopped today first time after the store remodeling! Wow, the company made a fabulous job. I go to this store for 27 years. The management has accommodated the diverse population of the village: Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Federal holidays are celebrated through sales, products, decorations, gifts. Great variety of fruits and vegetables in good quality and special sales. Today I noticed better variety of bakery products: breads, buns, sweets. More refrigerators, new design and equipment, many checkouts, support to local youth and folks with disabilities through employment. Jewel's management and employees - you deserve five stars. Local folks love you: parking lot was full on Tuesday around 5 pm. On weekends it's always booming. With the help of BG jewel - Jewel the plaza will be back to life. Thank you!!! read more

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experiences at Jewel-Osco. Not only has the customer service been consistently poor, but the store's "free delivery" promotion feels misleading at best. The delivery service was advertised as free, yet the order was handled by a third-party service. I never received my groceries, and when I called for help, I was told it was somehow my fault for "using Uber"--even though that's how the delivery was processed on their end. When I tried to get clarification, customer service was unhelpful and dismissive, offering no real explanation or solution. Instead of taking responsibility or trying to fix the issue, they simply acted like it was my misunderstanding. If a company is going to promote free delivery, at least clearly explain any conditions or limitations. Between the confusing advertising and the lack of basic customer care, this experience has been extremely frustrating. I expected far better transparency and professionalism from a store as well-known as Jewel-Osco. At this point, I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

where do I start. from charging me $1-3 more per grocery item than every competitor in the area (Mariano's, Walmart and Target) to also charging me $99 per year delivery and expecting me to tip on the higher grocery costs, to the fact they haven't have items in stock I need and have repeatedly left messages with the storage manager asking for them to stock items that EVERY other Jewel carries and so does Walmart, Mariano's and Target. Recent upgrades to the store are nice BUT the aisles are consistently cluttered with new stock. Pricing increased significantly compared to local competition. The deals are based on bulk purchases and digital coupons are designed to get your personal information. 06/14/21 My sister & I went to Jewel in Buffalo Grove to get some ribs on sale for $1.99/lb for an upcoming BBque. The woman at the front desk was very helpful helping us navigate the E version of the Jewel AP to be able to get this price (5 stars). After that it went downhill. We went to the back to purchase the ribs. The kid working the meat counter was talking to his friend & developed an attitude because we interrupted him. Excuse me sorry we didn't mean to interrupt your personal conversation @ work. I guess we should have come back after you were done talking to your friends. When I was at the store I grabbed 2 bottles of wine and went to checkout. I provided my expired and temporary driver's license but the cashier called the "manager" Olivia. Olivia took both, my expired and temp IDs and went to her manager to ask. I was waiting with my son without understanding since no one was explaining anything to me. Then Olivia came back saying that the temp ID should look blue and not white and black and refused to sell me those wines. I explained that I renewed my ID online and that is what I was provided. She responded in an extremely rude way "Do you think I do not know how temp ID should look like?!" From this moment I understood that I am not being treated equally, most likely because they noticed my "NOT PERFECT" English and thought they can treat me they way they want because the person in front of them is most likely an immigrant. After seeing the expression on her face showing the disgust towards me, I asked the cashier to call the manager hoping to explain that my ID is real. Manager, whose name I don't remember, but will try to describe: male, between 27-35 years old, with fuller figure, brownish skin and in glasses, appeared to be the rudest person. He did not even treat me like a person at all, he approached without greeting and with displeased face expressing even more disgust. I asked him why you cannot sell me the wines, I have my valid temp ID. He said that Olivia did not like your ID and decided so, if she said so, it cannot be discussed and I do not have any right to question it. I asked him maybe you can show the guiding policy, so I can understand the refusal. He said he is not required to show me anything, he is not willing to talk to me and I must leave the store. What did I do to be treated like that in front of all people? Because I asked questions? Or because these employees don't want to do their responsibilities and up to their mind behaving and treating people like they want? I said we can call police and they can verify it is true. The store manager showed his anger even more, and yelled that it is a private store and we decide ourselves who we serve who don't. I asked why are you talking to me like that in front of all shoppers in my neighborhood and in front of my 5 year old son? Is it because you think you can take advantage of me because I'm an immigrant and my not -perfect English? He laughed, said no and left. I asked Olivia once again to explain why are you refusing to sell the wine. She said she's not willing to talk to me, turned and left. Is that how customers are treated in this store? Aren't there any responsibilities that these employees have, such as customer service? Right after that I hear the third person Tara, yelling at me, saying "Stop harassing my employees". In front of all shoppers. Since when, asking question to clarify their decision is a harassment? I approached her and asked why you simply cannot talk to me like to a human and explain what is wrong with my ID? She answered that Olivia told my Date of Birth does not match. I showed her both my expired and temp IDs to tell that it is NOT true. She looked at me with animosity, did not even looked at IDs and with gestures pointing to the door started to yell again "Get out". This was such a humiliation and discrimination. And what does it mean" She did not like my ID"c she did not like my name, my picture? It is clearly a discrimination! After that, I called 911. And this further information is between me and the officer and confidential for now. Please corrective action, because I'm not planning to leave it like that. Not the best and not the worst Jewel location. This is a decent sized store with a good selection of different items that range from super cheap to premium. Parking is generally not too difficult here, though they parking lot is not cleared the best after heavy snows so you will need to drive carefully around the big mounds of snow. Service is alright, not the fastest or most complete -- but reasonable (though at busy times, checkout can take a while). Two things prevent me from rating this store higher though. First is that the arrangement of items and price labeling is not good. I often find items located far away from their label or incorrectly mixed. Sometimes it's very difficult to find the price label for a product and similar products from the same brand may be located on level levels or far apart on the same shelf. This makes it easy to misinterpret prices and difficult to find certain items. Second is the widely varying expiration dates. You have to pay attention to what you're buying as the goods aren't separated well by expiration (either oldest at the top or in the front). Many times, this is simply mixed altogether. Overall, a fairly normal Jewel to shop at. You can find great deals if you're willing to spend some time looking and the Monopoly game is always popular. read more

This Jewel is the closest to my home, but I've usually switched between this location and Arlington Heights' store on Rand Road. This Jewel has the edge on customer service, as the associates who run the deli (hot bar) and self check-out tend to be more helpful. Jewel's chicken and potato wedges are second to none, and you always get generous helpings of food. I also have never received a bad bakery item from here. What needs improvement is their inventory rotation on perishable or refrigerated goods. For example, you often see milk that has poor sell-by dates (and occasionally is on the shelf past expiration). Or you see produce that isn't up to par. As a consumer, I am more scrupulous on checking best and sell by dates based on past experiences. The organization and variety of their shelved items is pretty good though, and there's usually enough parking spaces. Plus it's a low wait time for check out. The self check out machines are somewhat finicky, but a staff member will quickly come to your aid if help is needed. For a store that's opened 6am to midnight (the deli operating 7am to 7pm), the schedule can work for mostly anyone. Woodmans, which I've tried once, is opened 24/7 and has more competitive pricing, but is a chore to get in and out of and doesn't offer hot dinners like Jewel does. For convenience sake and because the Jewel app often provides deals, this is an adequate store to get your needs met. read more

This is clean and relatively well-organized Jewel-Osco that sells a good variety of items. They are competitively pricey and have decent to good customer service. The store is easy to navigate through and they have a few self-check out counters to help out the customers who either are in a hurry or just have a few items to purchase. I don't shop here frequently as some of the items they sell can be found cheaper elsewhere but for better quality and variety for some items, I do like to go here. E.g., I like their Ice Cream, Frozen Pizza and Pasta Sauce selections. They have good deals occasionally which are worth taking advantage off. Tip: If something is missing, or out of stock - ASK!! The staff will go to remarkable lengths to make you happy and get and/or make the item you need. As I've been coming to this Jewel for years, and they continue to do their jobs well to keep a nice convenient store. During this crazy time, they have remained helpful and well stocked. I see the staff stocking the shelves quickly with not only the new incoming items, but also diligently restocking misplaced items. If you ask anyone a question they are usually knowledgeable or at the very least friendly and willing to help and find out your needs. With everything going on, they have still had most of everything I need, and it's definitely nice to have a familiar and consistent place to go to. Even at the checkout line, they are doing their best to get everyone in and out and while keeping their composure. They're actually a very down to earth bunch and can even be funny. Also, they are knowledgeable up there on items and pricing which helps keep everything moving quickly. When lines suddenly form, they always know how to hop onto new registers. Or now, they have self check out too! If you join the mymixx club, they do have competitive pricing and rewards that you can even use for gas. Overall, I don't know what more I could ask for or change. The store is generally very clean and you can always find a staff member working nearby. I have been a consistent WalMart shopper forever and ever. However, I had to go to my local Jewel-Osco recently and was very pleasantly surprised by the positive shopping experience as well as the variety of stock in the store. I am a staunch vegan and you have a wonderful variety of vegan products that I never expected to see in the store. I used to have to drive to Whole Foods in Deerfield for my vegan needs (not the closest drive for a simply vegan turkey loaf!). I not only found the vegan turkey loaf at Jewel-Osco but found a splendid vegan gravy as well. I will be returning the Jewel-Osco on a weekly basis at this point. Thank you! read more

They do not fulfill what they advertise. Violation of customer law. Their advertisement says literally next "if our French bread is cold - you can take it for free. We bake it everyday 4-7 pm". No strings attached, no "*ask for details at customer service". No small letters. What is evident from the ad: 1. they bake bread 4-7, but you can buy it any time. 2. ANYTIME if bread is cold - you can take it for free. 3. There is no "warm bread goes first" message, so you can pick either cold(free) or warm one. In reality what they do, what their policy says, what stuff says and what customer service is aware of is far from what they claim on this advertisement. 1. the promotion is active 4-7 pm, only when they bake the bread. 2. if there is a warm bread available, you can not pick cold one and claim it free So this ad is just lie. It is not a marketing catch, it is pure lie. I was surprised to know that their customer service is aware of this and say it is OK. They also confirmed over the phone they will remove/change the promotion label. It did not happen, they still fool people. Not a customer of them any more for the next year at least. So this is a Jewel, I'm sure you all have been to other locations, and this is one is just like them. EXCEPT...I'm fairly certain this location neglects to train its employees, namely the baggers. I've never experienced any headaches with the deli counter staff or check-out staff (a few of them even know my family by name!), but these baggers...that's a whole different story! Seriously, I'm not trying to sound "funny" or like I'm creating a sly sounding yelp review, but who puts 10 pounds of bottled beverages in ONE plastic grocery bag? By the time they get to the car, the bag's already broken. Also, I believed it was common sense not to pack these same heavy items with soft, delicate groceries such as pretzels or bread. When I told manager who came over she insisted that it was okay because she was wearing a mask, wow how dumb! Then she also said she's "immune" because she's had both shots. I've lived in Buffalo Grove for over twenty years and frequent this store a few times a week. I just read the other two reviews of this store and I felt I had to clear the air and give a REAL review of the place. (I'll address their complaints and give you HONEST corrections to their rants at the bottom.) **** This is a very nice store!! The workers are polite - but not pushy. The Chef's Kitchen (deli) is friendly and offers samples or suggestions. There is a HUGE cheese area and it often has free samples of exotic cheeses (yum!). The fried chicken is outstanding...and the wings are to die for. Produce is FRESH and BEAUTIFUL! There are also organic fruits and veggies. --- Yes, there are fruit markets around that offer produce at prices that seem unbelievable (ie Caputo's, etc.) - but when you get there the QUALITY isn't good. Then your produce spoils within a day or so. You waste that savings by throwing the food out. Even the coupon lady...Jill Cataldo will say the best buy over-all is shopping at JEWEL! Maybe THAT'S why it can get crowded at times. The other areas are man-ed and usually filled. If they are out of things, they DO offer to special order or will offer rain-checks with NO rolled eyes or attitudes. I want to mention that their expanded organic selection is NICE - 2 aisles dry goods and also meats, dairy, and frozen items(no need to drive to Whole Foods anymore). The ethnic selection is quite large, especially around the Jewish holidays - when the entire front aisle is taken over with a huge variety of kosher selections. The year-round kosher choices include meats (meat area and pre-packaged) and frozen (they have a HUGE case of frozen kosher selections all to their own). The Pharmacy is 24 hours. :) The cashiers work very hard to keep the lines going (and yes, it CAN be busy - but that's because it's a very good place to shop and the neighborhood PREFERS it). I shop HERE because over-all the prices are very good - and the sales are great. The customer service is a plus - though not pushy (I've been to those stores where you feel as if you need to tip the baggers and other employees. I don't feel comfortable shopping there.) **** Corrections on false rants of these two previous yelpers. -one visit to a store when you are on your way to the airport is NOT a good example of what a store has to offer. (Probably due to the rush of traveling. But - you need to alcohol to travel with? Hmmmm.) -Buffalo Grove (the town) has ordinances not allowing the sale of liqour at self-check out (4 registers and 8 signs -what more can you ASK for??) and that at the registers EVERYONE must be carded regardless of age. Again the law here, and anywhere *I* have ever been, says that you must be over 21 and have special training to sell alcohol. Yesterday I went shopping for my 93 year old father with my mask on as instructed. When I reached the cashier named April I overheard her talking to the bagger saying she has every right to kick people out of the checkout line and the store if their mask slips down one inch. UPDATE: There is a salad bar!!! I didn't realize how long ago I was at this store (and actually noticed the differences). So let me list to you what is new: 1. Salad bar, including the chicken wing bar. So important now that football season is approaching. 2. They completely changed the dungeon side of the market (liquor/beer/photos). They opened it up, removed that large counter for photos and liquor purchases, moved the smokes (cough) to the customer service area, and I think it's a huge improvement. Bravo.
