heard the chicken wings (깐풍기) were good here and cheaper/better than joongboo so gave it a shot! it's delicious! they are located in a food warmer thing near the left of the market past the roasted seaweed (김). went on a thursday around 4pm and there 4 left. my friend went on a sunday around 7pm and they were gone. it's a pretty small market and nice to have in the area. only keeping as 3 stars because of how expensive everything else is compared to joongboo or hmart. read more

Reiterating what I reviewed a long time ago, Seoul Supermarket is a great Asian grocer. They have a very large selection of all sorts of foods - fresh, frozen, cooked. I mentioned in my prior review how good their chicken wings are. We got several dozen for a party we held recently and they were every bit as good as ever. The wings are always loved by people at our parties and there are never any leftovers even though we always buy too many. They are like potato chips - you can't eat just one. :) read more

Love their kimchi and gimbop and fried chicken. I come here to get side dishes and snacks all the time. I don't buy much produce here unless I'm in a pinch. Not sure how prices compare either. I like that it's clean and well maintained and people are fairly nice. Usually well stocked with whatever I need and decent selection. The meat here is on the pricier side, but good quality. I was on the hunt for Bulgogi and not having a lot of success. I was almost ready to give up when I decided to call the Seoul Supermarket. I've driven by here many times without stopping. When I called they said they didn't have ready made bulgogi. I started the say thanks and hang up when the woman offered to make it for me. She asked for my number and said she'd call when it was ready. Within the hour I received her call. This was my first time here. It's a small but very tidy and well organized store. Most importantly there was a wonderful full tray of delicious bulgogi ready for me. At an extremely reasonable price. I WILL definitely return in the near future. And I am extremely appreciative of the kindness extended to me. Not many places go out of their way for customers nowadays. read more

Please do not order catering from this place due to the multiple food safety and lack of knowledge of employees. I ordered Sweet Potato Noodles for the company potluck without the meat for vegetarian staffs. I made sure three times prior to pick it up and my coworkers found small pieces of meat at the bottom of the tray. The owner admitted that she was in hurry so decided to take out meats with hands and never bother inform me about it. The way the owner and manager were responding to this incident was only caring about what the name of company is and how many people have eaten to be prepare any legal problem if someone get sick or worse things happens. Had to apologize to every single coworkers and to the company itself for meat in the food and owner clearly did not show care. She kept saying it was only few pieces and would not matter so much! Someone who do not have food safety basic knowledge should be prohibited handling food. I really pray nothing bad happen to who had eaten it today. read more

Okay, this is a good grocery store in the North suburbs of Chicago. It is not as a big Korean Store like H-Mart or Jongboo Market that are located in Chicago, Niles or Glenview but it have the main items you will need to make Korean food! Or any Asian food for that matter. I like this place because it is family owned and the owner is so sweet! SO, BUY LOCAL! They make the best homemade Kimchi weekly and believe me, if you taste it, you will definitely drive there for it!!! wherever you are located in Chicago. The homemade kimchi is not BURN your mouth spiced BUT DELICIOUSLY SPICY. I just bought a medium Kimchi and I could wait to just eat it with regular rice or have it as a side dish. They also have the tofu and spicy soups and all the meats you will need to do your own Korean BBQ. They also have a good selection of Asian beers like Sapporo, Makgeolli, and sojus! That would be a great in home dinner with the family or just for a date! Go here if you are in Buffalo Grove and want to make great Korean food with great products and reasonable price. Small has a seafood case in the back. . The selection was sparse didn't look very fresh. Meat looked great . Produce was limited and wilted looking. Looks as if it has been around for a long time and perhaps update the store. It is very limited the Asian stores in this area. They also had skin care, kitchen ware and a big supply of banchan. . I might revisit on a Saturday they had a hot food area but was empty. Hard to do the volume on the weekday as the big boys H mart, Assai and Japanese store Mirsuwa. This place has a very good variety of both fresh and cooked Asian foods. The most unique feature is probably the sushi they offer at good prices. You can get a whole plate of sashimi for a cheaper price than 1 dinner at Todai. The quality is not superb but it's a great deal if you enjoy a lot of fish but are on a budget. Otherwise this is one of the larger Asian markets in the area and is a good compliment to the one by Sushi Para. read more

I usually go bigger sized stores like huge super markets like H mart or Assi mart for Korean food shopping. I only go here whenever I forget to buy something from those bigger markets. This place is small but you can pretty much get everything what you really need to get. The products are not that fresh sometimes and pricey, too. But I still go when I need to because it is closer from my house. There is one thing that you really need to try from their food court is their sweet and spicy chicken wings. Parking lot - I went on a rainy day and not very well lit for the burbs, just a precaution. Sushi - have them made to order or if you don't want to talk to anyone, pre-made boxes look good too. The Korean cooked foods, chapjae, pancakes, fried fish, etc - also a good selection of modestly well priced ready to eat food. And... winner winner chicken wings!!! Sweet and spicy, very good texture for sitting in the heating element looking popcorn machine. At $6 for a large, that's a value meal. No sitting area, so perfect place to do a cheap night in of korean take out. read more

Some items are very expensive but that's because they are imported from Korea. The best items to try are the Korean side dishes and the fried chicken! I great Asian supermarket.. The only problem I have is that nothing is really in English, so I have trouble deciphering what everything is. They have some pre-made food here as well as produce and groceries. I often make a pit stop at the sushi station to pick up a snack. Pretty basic Korean market here. About the same size as Woory, but much further north. They have a very small selection of teas, which surprised me a bit. Various other Korean pantry staples, including a very impressive dried mushroom aisle. Honestly, if you're looking for any sort of dried mushrooms for various Asian dishes, they probably have them here. Prices are comparable to other Asian markets, and as some other reviewers noted, are lower in some cases. Produce, meat, and fish are all really nice and fresh. The fresh food that the store makes and packs up for you to take to go also seems really nice and well-priced. Obviously, it was one visit, so I haven't tried it all -- but I did have to try a small tin of those chicken wings everyone else raves about. They're right to rave about them. You have a choice between a $3.50 small portion or a $5.99 big tin of chicken. It's mostly wings, but I had a drumstick and thigh in my box, too. No matter -- their breading is perfect, and the sauce...oh, that sauce. As others have said, it's sweet and sticky, but it has a nice bite to it as well. I'm guessing sriracha and honey are both involved. In any case, they're moist, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I don't eat chicken like this a lot, but I definitely know where I'll go when I have a craving for it. (Well, except I hear Woory Market's wings are also really good, and I haven't tried those yet. Oof.) Seoul Market stocks Korean breads and pastries from another bakery. The cream puff I tried wasn't as good as New York Bakery or Bini Bakery's goods. Maybe it was a day old? Not sure. It seemed almost stale. Not horrible, but I wouldn't buy it again. Oh, and the sushi in the back looked really good and reasonably priced. I didn't try it -- but looks do count for a lot with fish. Maybe next time. They also had these seaweed crackers I've been trying to find for ages. I haven't seen them at the other Korean markets I've tried. Pretty happy to have found them. read more

Still awesome. In the back of the store on the right hand side they have an assortment of cookware piled on the floor. I was able to find a decent two piece stovetop grill to make Korean BBQ on. It has a ring that you fill with liquid, and then you place a concave grilling plate on top of that. Perfect for making Korean BBQ indoors on a gas stove. So now I can pick up a few pounds of already-marinated meats from the back of the store, a container of kim chee, and some banchan and I've got a few meals worth of BBQ. I like to add on large mushroom chunks, cloves of garlic, scallions, etc. Tastes great and anything left over can become kim-chee fried rice later on. read more

This is actually a pretty great Korean supermarket. First of all, if you're going to go, you might as well get the Super Sticky Slightly Spicy Chicken Wings. I don't know what they're called, but this place almost always uses the HUGEST wings, and they're so crazy good. Crazy. Good. They have very fresh produce (the bean sprouts from here are great!) and their prices are typically comparable, to even a little lower than other Asian marts. (And shockingly lower than your typical big box like Jewel or Dominck's). I give this place five stars for the friendly staff, wide selection, clean store, good prices and those freaking Chicken Wings. Seriously. Great place for any korean household and food items. Pretty quiet, which makes sense since it's far out of the city (but close to me and most asian students who need their asian seasoning fix). Picked up some great cuts of short ribs (already cut!) to make some galbi. I was hoping to find something other than the common korean bbq marinade they had, but it looks like I'm going to have check it elsewhere. Did notice they had sashimi and it did look good. Reasonable Korean supermarket. When in the area, I find I have to go to different places to get groceries, there's no one stop shop and these days those would be hard to find. Sometimes this place has cheaper asian groceries, sometimes a different supermarket does. Having said that, if it's Korean specific groceries I need then this is my go to place. Friendly and large, they have some nice marinated meat and sushi in the back corner which is always reasonable. Helps it's conveniently located close to where I used to live. read more

I found this place alright. I wanted to find some dainty Asian tea cups but their kitchen section did not have these. Also, I found some items overpriced, you could get these from the dollar store for cheap. The only thing I hated about the place was the smell, doesn't smell good at all. Main thing is they charged me $24.99 for a box of pears we were not even carrying or put it on the conveyer 2 days ago. Same thing happened 3 weeks ago they charged $2.99 for a candy i didn't even purchase. So i spoke to the manager Sue. / or Suu she pronounsed/ The next day it took them 30 min to give my money back. so BE SURE CHECK YOUR RECIEPT IN CASE THEY CHARGE YOUR FOR SOMETHING YOU DIDNT BUY !!!! Very clean store with a wide variety of products. I've never seen so much kimche in so many varieties and in so many sizes...The meat was very high quality but out of my price range. Most tfish was frozen but looked pretty fresh, eyes still clear :) I liked that some of the shelf tags were in english since I'm not learning Korean any time soon. I was pretty disappointed that they didn't have tapioca pearls and the owner didn't know what I talking about...it would've been so convenient to have a source within walking distance of my house! My daughter and i ended up buying an assortment of Japanese bubble gum and gummy candies, korean bbq sauce/marinade, malt flour , granulated cactus honey and these puffed rice crackers which were barely sweet logs of puffed rice..quite tasty! They have a small liquor area, asian beers, sake and other unidentified alcoholic beverages I would like to try. Also some housewares and sundry items. I love to buy the little containers of different pickles/relishes/condiments.
