This has been my neighborhood Jewel-Osco for 20+ years. I have always loved coming to this location. Sometimes I come in the morning for quick snacks for my kids. Unfortunately, I will be seeking somewhere else to shop in the morning to avoid a specific person who I feel is not very welcoming to shoppers. Today, this individual did not acknowledge anyone in line. This is why I usually go to self checkout to avoid unpleasant customer service. Unfortunately self checkout was not open yet and this was the only line open. Today was the last straw for me. There were side conversations with the bagger. I guess that was more important than those spending money to keep the doors open. There are pleasant staff member in the afternoon, which is when I will shop. This Jewel Store at 7900 s. Cicero is usually clean and well stocked, which is great. But it leaves much to be desired in other departments, no pun intended. On one hand they have some great team members but there are a few individual's who leave much to be desired customer service wise. It has to start at the top and I feel there is no real direction at this store most of the time. Some individuals are unpleasant and definitely don't want to be there. Hopefully management corrects this as best they can. read more

They don't close until 10, but they block off the entrances at 9 so you have to come in the exit when people are walking out, because why? It's completely illogical for people who don't live here, not that it's logical for people who do. I suspected that somebody just wants to leave early. But it's a Saturday night and if you tell me you're open until 10, you should be open until 10. read more

UPDATE: After sending several detailed emails, 3 weeks later I still have not gotten a call or even an email back from the appropriate party. So so so disappointed. I can't begin to describe how disappointed I am with my experience at Jewel's hot food catering department. I was absolutely mortified when my husband went to pick up our HUGE order (that we paid for a few weeks in advance) and we were told chefs had not even started it. (Let me also add we called earlier in the day to confirm pickup time) My baby shower started at 3 and was scheduled to end at 6 due to the venue restrictions. Pickup was at 2:30 so we had planned for optimal transportation time. We did not receive the food until 4 pm and our guests did not eat til 4:30. The chicken was great, however the mashed potatoes and gravy were ice cold like they just pulled them out of the fridge. We had to heat the mashed potatoes in the venue's microwave. I was so so SO disappointed. When we spoke to the supervisor we were given a $25 gift card and a couple extra Hawaiian roll packs. I am not only disappointed that half of our party was spent waiting on food, but I am upset that my husband was not able to spend that time with me, our family and our friends enjoying the party like he should have been able to due to him waiting on food that should have been ready before our guests arrived. I am disappointed that the party was pushed back and we had to pay for more time at the venue as well. And to be given $25 and Hawaiian rolls was a really cheap "oops, sorry". Disappointed is not even the word. I spent my special day crying out of frustration. I am never and I mean NEVER catering from here ever again. I went thru the checkout today 3/24/22 at 7910 S. Cicero. I told the cashier that I have an EBT card and slide the card thru. The cashier told me the total to pay her. I looked up at the register screen it said EBT $113 and I owed $130. What?!!! I told the cashier I did not spend $200 on these groceries!!! I just don't believe it the cashier just kept repeating the total and staring off into the distance. I had to give up every cent I had and didn't have enough for the total. I got home and the receipt showed no EBT transaction. I check the EBT website for a transaction but it was not there. So this zombie made me give up all my cash to pay the Peoples Gas bill. This was a great store back in the day. Check the dates in your ready made salads. It's highly likely that chicken caesar salads don't have chicken in it. Salads have been sitting for two days at regular price. Meats are brownish. Please check dates on products at this location. read more

So trashy and I wouldn't be surprised if it got shut down. I went there to get a salad from the deli counter. They scraps in the container. I asked what time they will make another fresh batch and the associate answered "we ain't!" I asked for a manager to come over to the counter. As I waited ten mins, the associate is making a mockery out of the situation with a coworker behind the counter. Annoyed, I went to the service counter for the manager. The attendant was standing at the desk swearing with another woman and acknowledged me after she was done. The manager finally came after five more mins. Steven D. Was Nonchalant about how his associates are behaving nor that the item isn't available. He was very LOUD and aggressive but said nothing meaningful or reassuring. Like The Sands Of Time Through The Hourglass ... "So are the days of our lives". Fifteen minutes in line, this would be fine if it was super busy and I was in a long long, line. However there were two people ahead of me, the one being rung up as I got in line, with only about ten things left in the cart and the one behind her with four items. If you have time on your hands, or are lonely and need to get out, shop at this Jewel, other than it being slow, everything else seems to be in order. However, if you have things to do and there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day, find another place to get your groceries. read more

I've been shopping here for years never really had a problem except with the parking lot since its always full of pot holes but basically the inside is like your typical Jewels if you ever seen one but the inside looks like its stuck in 1995 and hasn't had a makeover in forever honestly. Ok, I would've skipped giving a place like Jewels a review, but I had to because of an experience I had with them ... I went there from the airport one evening..I had a lot of cash on me. I left my purse in the cart and drove all the way home(a 15 minute drive)..When I parked in my garage and went to reach for my purse I almost had a heart attack..my purse was nowhere to be found.. I drove back to Jewels' and when I went into the store ,they had my purse at the service desk and were just opening it to see who it belonged to..I described the things in my purse and they gave it back to me...Wow, a guy who worked there turned it in.. This Jewels must have a guardian angel in the lot ,cause I sure got a blessing that night.. Thanks Jewels.....now about those vegetables..lol read more

I have frequented this Jewel for many years. The people here are very nice but I get frustrated when they change the store layout after so long. Deli is always fresh and there is a tcf bank inside towards the 79th street entrance. Try the pie slices they have near the bakery. They are very delicious. read more

I've been shopping here for years, but recently they got rid of the self checkouts which means now I have to interact with cashiers. I usually try to avoid shopping here now, because the lines are too long and the cashiers always seem to be bothered by having to check you out. The express lane is a joke, they usually have one lane open and it moves so slow. If we are forced to deal with the cashiers, please retrain them to have a little courtesy. read more

Most Jewel stores are similar. I don't really shop them that often (I'm more of an aldi girl) but sometimes I need to go there for specialty items that aldi doesn't carry. There are a couple jewel stores in the area and this isn't the nice one. The employees are professional and nice but going there is such an inconvenience. Every single time I've been there I've had the same experience- a million people in line and one check out open. It's so frustrating! Okay I am basing this review on the poor service I receive at the deli here. Every time I come here in the late afternoon or evening. The workers stand around not even bothering to acknowledge me and I wait and wait and wait until they finally decide to wait on me. Today the girl behind the counter took her time and when I ordered the 12 piece chicken bucket she started picking through the batch of chicken choosing the smaller pieces to give me. She actually went out of her way to do this picking through them and taking her sweet time as if I had nothing better to do. Now the time before this they left me wait so long without acknowledgement that I just left and walked out. This place really needs to train the deli crew on customer service skills and manners. They act like we are bothering them. I am so fed up with the service here that I am calling corporate and complaining. Sadly the poor service I receive from the deli overshadows the good service I get from the bakery and the cashiers. They are the saving grace that earned them any stars at all. read more

This neighborhood Jewel is always clean and they have an ample amount of cashiers to get you out the door quickly. The bakery dept staff is especially nice. They will write happy birthday on any premade cake in the bakery section, just ask. They will also bake you up a custom cake with 24-48 hours notice. The green beans were old but they did bring out fresh ones when I finally found an associate to help me. The main issue was the front end manager, Lavonia. I had a coupon that expired yesterday. I've never had a problem using expired coupons at the Niles and State Street locations. I attempted to inquire if the policy had recently changed and if this store had different policies, only to be rudely cut short by Lavonia shaking her head and saying no. She lost an $18 sale and a customer for a $1.50 coupon. Even if I couldn't use the coupon, her unpleasantness is the reason for this response. read more

But if you want to move up you have to get up off your keister and get an education or else you take all these low level jobs! I gave 2 stars and I think that's generous. There are a small handful of workers between all the shifts that actually work hard and try to help when somebody asks for it. Most of the employees are too young/stupid/confused to do their job properly or help when someone asks for assistance. The lack in effort in the store by the employees as a whole is pathetic. That means the responsible workers, especially one particular supervisor work more than twice as hard and for that I commend them. read more

I go this Jewel only if I happen to passing by. This Jewel has the most unhelpful staff . Both on the floor and the cashiers. Never a smile, never a thank you.
