Happy Birthday, Jewel-Osco. 125 years and counting.... Why a five? Was shopping for a brunch to take on a boat for a sail on Lake Michigan with family and friends. Used digital coupons for discounts on items like bowls of cut pineapples, watermelon and cantaloupe. Bags of green grapes for $.99 per pound. Added mini blueberry muffins, two bite lemon poppyseed scones and fresh bagels and cream cheese to the basket. Cold brew for the grownups and raspberry lemonade for the toddler. What to do with the hot coffee??? We didn't have a thermos, but one very kind employee walked the store helping us to search. Although we were unsuccessful (and actually borrowed a coffee dispenser from the neighborhood 7-Eleven on a smile and trust), it was so nice that they went the extra mile for us on a very early Saturday morning over Labor Day weekend. Great deals weekly and on weekends there's a free item like a can of bubbly energy drink. Get the app. That's where you "clip" the coupons. Without the sales the prices are a bit high. But for free parking plus a cafe area w seating and a bar...and free WiFi plus charging stations. It's so convenient and there's a Chase bank and The Joint and other establishments in this shopping mall. I just wish Jewel Oscos prices were a bit lower. Bc everything else is great! Too bad the customer service at the floral shop is terrible bc I would never buy from there. The only negative thing: (update) The staff person at night 10/11/2025 around 9pm was totally unfriendly and told me to find the price of an item myself by picking up the item to find the sticker price even while I had bags and items in both hands plus my cell phone. So I had a bad taste in my mouth and vowed I would rather go to any other floral shop than the one at Jewel. First time coming to this Jewel Osco. I figured that the stores in the city might have great options compared to the locations in the suburbs and far outer suburbs but I will say there is more variety here with health conscious aisles. Prices are unfortunately expensive and the aisles are as crammed like the highway during rush hour. Plenty of parking though there's a lot of traffic to get through while you're there. Overall, average shopping adventure. read more

Jewel decided to have a corporate meeting at the store and had all their entitled execs literally take up all the parking spots in the lot so the customers had to circle for 10-15 minutes and use parking at the strip mall instead. The store is dirty - was there two weeks ago and there was a broken bottle of pasta sauce on the floor near the bathrooms. When I went to the bathroom, the stalls were disgusting. Finally a grocery store that carries the best Italian brand for cakes and brioche "Bauli". I could not believe my eyes when I saw that they were selling -Bauli brioche and cakes at the Jewel West loop - I hadn't had this brand since I was a kid. For some reason grocery stores like jewel insist on annoying customers with "digital deals". First, if you're going to put something on sale then just put it on sale. Just this morning I left the house without my phone which I'm trying to do more and more. It's unquestionably unhealthy to be tied to these devices. So I went to Jewel to do my weekly shopping. I asked the manager (Dan I think) what are people without smart phones to do and he said there's nothing that can be done. So if you're unfortunate and won't have a smart phone or opt to live without your phone you're stuck. At least at Mariano's they give you a piece of paper with all the digital sales in case you don't have or don't carry your phone everywhere. I like this jewel. HOWEVER! No squishmallows since Christmas. Only ugly Valentine's Day random stuffed animals. Please bring back squishmallows. Squishmallows are amazing! Aside from stuffed animals, I like the selection of produce and snacks. It's a really nice grocery store in the west loop. It's got a great large parking lot too. It's across the road from good dog park too. Spacious grocery store, and pretty upscale. I'm a fan. Prices may vary though. You have to look for good deals. Nice Jewel. First time here. Very clean, organized and large. Parking lot was clean and easy to navigate. No carts left out considering it was a windy chilly day. Cashier was nice I asked for a card in which she said it is now an app. Which I was in the process downloading with only one person behind me. I didn't get a discount I was hoping for as she was rather rushing. So,I have to say I think this is probably the best Jewel Osco around this area. They typically have what I need and produce is definitely the best one for the Jewel Osco in this area as well. The meat selection has decreased and they always have a abundance of chicken. Went to what used to be my favorite Jewel-Osco on Des Plaines this morning at 6:00 a.m. to get the crab legs that were on sale for $7.99 a pound. NOBODY was at the seafood counter. I asked a nice gentleman if he could get someone to wait on me. He called from the phone. Still no service. After about 10 minutes I asked him to call for a manager. A RUDE WOMAN came not even letting me know she was there. No May I Help You Nothing. I was standing at the Coronavirus 6 ft. space mark. Rude lady was the person who was supposed to be at the counter but was LATE and she had an attitude cause I wanted service. When she took the paper off the seafood THE CRAB LEGS WERE A DISGRACE. Take a look at the picture and form your own opinion. Left that horrible Jewel-Osco located at 370 N. Des Plaines and went to a much better Jewel-Osco on 13th and Canal. Its a nice convenient grocery store. One day on one of my shopping trips at Jewel, I came upon a fabulous cooking demonstration by the funny Emily Ellyn, the Retro Rad Chef from the Food Network. A large party of friends and family was invited to celebrate an impending wedding by cooking, drinking, and being entertained with Emily. Each guest had a small cooking station with supplies, cooking along as Emily instructs. She is a good instructor and very funny. Her friendly banter kept the cooking class going. I can't truly speak on this Jewels because I came here for a Svedka Rose Launch Party and had a blast. It was right in their Bar Area and I didn't know what to expect but I'm so glad I went because the food from Boar's Head was very tasty I have always been a fan of their products. I won a basket and got to meet some new people. There is so much to do around Chicago and some of it is free. If you want to explore the city and you are low on cash checkout Eventbrite/Facebook and you might be able to find some great and unusually venues like I did and be surprised at how much fun you really can have. Deli staff is so rude and decides to close whenever they want. I went in around 6:30 and they told me that what's out is what's left. I was confused bc they're supposedly open until 9, but I figured they changed the hours. Ended up getting food poisoning, so who knows how long that food had been sitting around. This Jewel is alright, but it's in desperate need of Pineapple Orange Banana juice - the Pineapple Orange juice just isn't cuttin it. I've tried it and it's okay, but it's missing one key ingredient - banana. If you choose to go to Jewel during the 'Rona season, you'll be obliged to wear a mask. Make sure you don't bring any reusable bags, though or they'll confiscate them. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Drive Up and Go. While I wait for my food, I work on my DJ career in the parking lot. Given the current pandemic, I always try to have a positive mentality when it comes to curbside pickups for any grocery store/chain. I've had some hits and misses and unfortunately my experience here yesterday will be chalked up a negative experience. Earlier yesterday morning, I placed an order for about 8-10 items most of them being condiments. I chose the pick up time for 5p-6pm. I got the email confirmation for such however I was concerned at first as the text I got said pick up could be ready between 5p-8pm. I was like "8pm??" so that wasn't a good start. Fast forward to about 3:45p ish and I get a call from a number I don't recognize they leave a voicemail. This voicemail I must've heard 10 times as I could not understand it even to the point that my iPhone could not translate what was being said. So I called back and the person answered said "This e-com". Then I said who I was and how may I help and the person on the phone said "Can you come get this now"? I was like "You mean my online order?" She said "Yeah" and I responded with "I can't but after 5pm I can" then "I was hung up on". Awesome customer service and why would Jewel have this department answer their phone as "e-com"? How about "This is Jewel, the e-Com department how may I help you?". The actual pickup was fine as I waited less than 5 minutes to come out with my 2 bags of items. The only positive to this Jewel is the location and the big parking lot. Beyond that, based on previous visits here, most of the staff seems miserable and not helpful. This is disappointing and I hope management makes some changes here. read more

I normally love this store because of it's location, easy parking, cleanliness and product availability. However, on my last visit, my experience was not so great. I stopped at the produce section first and was really disappointed. The variety of fruit was severely limited. I even asked a guy working in the department about it and he said they were out of a lot of things. However, the nectarines I purchased were amazing! The store was a bit busy but I was able to gather my things and headed toward the check out. OMG there were lines at every counter that was staffed with a worker. I mean lines all the way back down the aisles! Once I finally got to the register to check out, I was met by a sullen young lady who did not greet me, apologize for the at least 20 minute wait or break any kind of facial expression - let alone a smile. Well, not until her colleague friend arrived. Then she smiled, laughed and chatted while she stopped checking me out!! Wait! Really?!?! I don't know what was going on at that store or where the Managers were, but I do know it will be a while before I return. Pets in the store- a lot. And of course the worst type of people doing it. Can we at least get a no dogs allowed sign? There are people who are sensitive to dander, no to mention the food safety violations. Also for the past few months at least. All of the asparagus is always put out on cookie sheets with no water, so they shrivel up and get gross through the day. You need to put water at the bottom. I have also discovered a cheese case unrefridherated. Everything in the case was warm so who knows how long. They just plugged it in and walked away. I just received the e-mail below today touting Jewel-Osco's delivery service, after this location had me sitting at home all day this past Friday, awaiting a delivery that never came, only to tell me after I inquired that it had been cancelled without any notification. And the reason? Because Jewel "could not fulfill the order owing to 'stock and staffing' issues. Oh, and we're sorry, someone should have called you." After many years as a Peapod customer, I had hoped to seamlessly migrate over to Jewel's delivery service when Peapod abruptly left this market, but Jewel's act isn't together and no one from corporate has contacted me yet with an apology or explanation. I keep trying you, dear Jewel, but this is not the first time. It's actually the third instance in which one of my deliveries has been cavalierly cancelled without a notification or follow-up of any kind. I'm trying to make a diy pizza using sliced bread. I just watched it on Tik Tok and it looks yummy. So here I am at this grocery store and look at the ingredients. I went to the bun section and purchased sliced bread. Then I went to the dairy section to grab cheese, mozzarella cheese. Then I also bought some pepperoni and hotdogs. I didn't buy sauce including ketchup , mayo and mustard since I have it in my mouth. After I purchased everything I went to the counter. I was surprised when I came there because there were long lines at the counter. It was tiring and a hassle to wait. It took 15 minutes before my turn. I paid for it and they put it in a paper bag. Not sure what it is about this particular location but it definitely reminds me of some of the Whole Foods locations back in my hometown. Wide, spacious, clean, modern, free booze samples on Fridays... wuuut. In addition, the prices are what you'd expect of a Jewel-Osco... at some point it will be on sale. FACELIFT I feel like I've been shopping at Jewel for the last 100 years. It has been 1 of 2 stores that everyone in Chicago knows. But times have changed with mega grocery stores like Whole Foods and Mariano's. Jewel is trying to keep up with "The Jones" right now! The store has been going through construction the last few months and most of it is a reaction to Mariano's. I remember the week Mariano's opened this Jewel did a customer appreciation week and it was just horrible. I give an "A" to management for trying but an "F" to the employees trying to pull it off. The Jewel employees giving out samples were afraid to even talk to customers. Most of them wanted to crawl behind the table and hide. It was really sad to watch. And all I could think was they better step up there game or there gone. After that didn't work, Jewel decided to copy Mariano's. They just added a fresh juice machine right when you walk in with free samples. Hmmm that seems familiar to the competition. They also expanded the hot items bar and added tables to eat at plus roll out a mobile cash register to pay for your hot food right next to the hot food. Yeah it's a complete copy of Mariano's. But it doesn't stop there. The bakery and fresh fish cases have been expanded. Jewel even has the same fresh fish motto like Mariano's. At the end of the day, it still is a Jewel that is trying to look like the new store down the street. At least there trying but there not fooling me. Now you'll have me if you add a bar and allow me to drink through the whole store while I shop. Go to a Whole Foods on a Friday and it looks like a singles bar with shopping carts. Wow the dating scene has really changed. Personally I'm lucky I don't have to worry about dating. But drinking a craft beer while shopping is a plus on my list. You can beat them to the punch by adding a drink holder to the cart. That is how you get them. Invent it and install and it will be an instant hit. Besides all these changes the store is huge. It has a nice big parking lot with a great view of the city. We really love the bakery too. The staff there is really nice and they make a great sheet cake. It is under $28 and is moist and delicious. That is the way cakes should be. I'm sick of these designer cakes that cost over $150 and taste like crap. Cake is suppose to taste good. So 5 stars to the ladies here. Keep up the great work. So Jewel is trying to be hip and young like the competition. I give them an "A" for effort and look forward to more changes. I do not know why I am only writing this review now, even if I've been to the store a lot of times. This store deserves the review based on the experience I had with them in the past few months of having my groceries in the store. First of all, they have a wide parking lot, which is so nice and every time I come here, I do not worry about where I should park because their parking has a lot of available spaces even if the store has a lot of customers inside. Second, I do not have a problem with any of their products. Everything I needed is always available, and the selections are always well-stocked. The store is also clean and organized, and everything is really accessible. I like their produce because it is always fresh, as well as their bakery and meats. I do not buy much meat, but whenever I do, it is always fresh and the quality is good. Lastly, the service is great, as are the prices. The staff are nice and friendly, and I do not have a problem with their service. While the prices are always fair and reasonable, I never have any experience of buying a product from them that is way above the normal price. read more

Fancy schmancy. This Jewel-Osco seems a whole lot more like a Whole Foods than a basic food store. Besides the carpeted Bylery's back in MN, I've never seen a grocery store so impeccably clean. It seems a bit smaller than other locations but they manage to cram a lot of things inside without making you feel claustrophobic. I come for the soup and salad bar. They have a large hot foods section and I almost always walk away with a bowl of broccoli cheese soup and a La Brea Bakery French demi-baguette. They also have a liquor section and aisle upon aisle of anything you'd need for a food run. So far my favorite surprise find has been the fresh squeezed orange juice at the front of the store. It's just as good as Whole Food's and about 1/4 of the price. read more

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! That's the sound of my tires squealing as I notice that the new Jewel has opened and swerve excitedly into the turning lane. Hooray! I don't live in the West Loop, but sometimes I feel like I do. I guess it's because I spend so much of my week at school I'm practically an honorary resident. This store is so convenient, it's on my way home and only a few blocks of the Halsted bus line for those days I don't have my car, but need to grab a few items. I love Jewel and have been disappointed by the selection at most of the Jewel stores in my area. This Jewel is awesome, it almost rivals the great one by my parents house. I know it just opened, but it was nice, roomy, clean and carries a great selection of goods. I mean the produce section was so large I had to get help finding the tomatoes! Ok, maybe it was that I was bleary-eyed because I had just spent about 5 hours in the library studying, but it's big - I swear. There's also a nice sized organic section as well. I've just found my new regular grocery store, hooray! The only odd thing I found was the reserved parking for hybrids. Maybe that's because as Wesley said it's a green store. I found it strange for the following reasons: (1) I know we shouldn't reward gas guzzlers, but wouldn't we prefer they not do any more damage to the environment by circling the lot looking for a spot close to the door?, just a thought, (2) given the economy and how many stores do this it doesn't seem to provide much incentive to buy a hybrid and (3) maybe I missed them, but to me these spots would be better served if they were reserved for expectant mothers. I am not sure, but this may have been my first Yelp review. The grocery delivery service by Jewel-Osco was so horrible that I feel compelled to warn other potential shoppers. My grocery delivery was scheduled today (Saturday) for between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. At 12:15 p.m., sI called the number provided on my order confirmation and was on hold for 2 hours and my call was never answered. I also sent an e-mail through the Jewel-Osco website and received a automated response giving no information. I called again with no response. On my third call I was able to speak to someone on the extension for re-scheduling delivery and was told that the delivery was running 2 hours late and that I would hear back from someone before the end of the day. I received a text at 2:25 advising that the groceries would be delivered at 3:08. The delivery arrived at about 3:00 p.m., but was missing about $70 of food for which they charged me. This is the first time I have ever had to audit a food delivery, but they had failed to deliver about 20 items. The only part of the process that worked was that I was able to receive a credit for the overcharge and extra delivery charge with an item by item review with the Jewel-Oslo representative. Literally the most rude manager of all time. Totally unprofessional, not understanding at all, and has honestly tarnished the entire reputation of this facility in my mind. I get the 9pm cutoff for alcohol. But if it's 8:59 and I'm done scanning and you simply tell me to take a hike that's the most blatantly disrespectful thing you can do to a customer who spends thousands of dollars here a month.
