This Jewel is super convenient to stop at on the way to running errands. The parking lot is often full, and there are lots of shoppers inside, so using self-checkout is usually a good idea. They stock all the basics, at a reasonable price. it's not Whole Foods or Mariano's, but you don't always need that. read more

This took place at the Clarendon Hills location 9/13/25 at about 5;30 PM I had a prescription to be picked up I went in with a printout from good Rx the lady there asked the pharmacist to help her; he was a young man of Mexican descent she did not know how to load this he came over looked at the paper work started yelling at me this is the price its already the RX price I said pardon me what's wrong he that's the price you cant get anymore off Didn't ask for more of a reduction he could have said any price I would pay it ands he just walks away I told the lady I don't like he treaded my she said nothing was just red in the face I called later to speak to a manager told me he does not have any control over the pharmacy they work part time on the weekends I am a regular customer at that location which I will never go back to read more

I am usually able to find what I need at the store. I have had good experience at the pharmacy. The downside is lines can be long. There is one cashier there, Michael, that always has a positive attitude and is very helpful. I swear he is always there! Great employee. read more

It is conveniently located off 55 near 83. It's right between Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills. The parking lot isn't huge, so be careful and watch for drivers zig zagging and running the stop signs. It gets nuts sometimes. I usually buy sale items or necessities. It's nice too because there's a Starbucks inside. Cashiers are friendly, and the self checkout moves pretty quickly. read more

This 5-star is for the AWESOME Drive-Up-and-Go team at the CH Jewel. I started doing online grocery through Jewel shortly after it launched in winter of 2018 when I had my second child. This store has the best personal shopper crew amongst the area stores. Always accurate, and they do a great job with replacement items. I feel like I'm in the store without being in the store. This Jewel hasn't had G2 Gatorade in over a year! When asked if they can get it they blame it on the distributor.. just got it from Tony's in Countryside. BE PREPARED TO WAIT. If you've got time to wait in line for 15+ min, then you'll be ok here. Decent selection of meats and veggies. But back to the wait.. if they have more than 3 registers open, consider yourself lucky but don't think you're getting out of there quick. 9 times out of 10, there is 1 or 2 express lanes open and 1 normal lane, resulting in lines that extend into the aisles. Save yourself time (and money) and go to Mariano's. read more

Normally, I wouldn't review a grocery store as what would need to make one stand out from another would have to be extraordinary. But that is just what this Jewel-Osco is. Extraordinary! It continues to impress me with it's commitment to the community it services, and the fact that they are always going out of their way to please the customer. For example- recently, when I was heading up a charity event in my town- I needed caterers to donate free food to the event. Jewel was first in line to say "yes, they'd help" and went over and above what I asked for in terms of deli, fruit and cheese trays. The manager even came out to the event to meet me and to make a local contact. Surprising for a chain but that manager wanted to get to know his customers. And can I say-It was more than I got from the independent grocer in town. And then last Saturday, I needed a red carnation boutonniere at the last minute. I called 6 florists but because it was Mother's Day weekend and prom weekend- there seemed to be no red carnations in the immediate area. Out of desperation- I stopped by Jewel thinking that maybe they would have a small arrangement that I could dismantle for my carnation. Not only did they have an entire vase of fresh carnations- the woman that runs the flower ship in this Jewel- stopped what she was doing and expertly crafted me a boutonniere all within about 5 minutes! Now that's service! I know it's all the vogue to bash national chains- but for my money- this Jewel has bailed me out more times than not. And for that I say, thank you! read more

Another bad day a Jewel. Tried to run in/out to buy some spinach. At the the register they couldnt figure out the price. "$2.99 a pound" I said. They bagged it and waited. "You will need to weigh it" I said. Finally a supervisor came. Couldnt find the price either. "$2.99 a pound" I said. ""We cant just do that", she replied (curtly). Then they finally found the price. ($2.99 a pound). But then figured out they had to pull it back out from out of the bag and weigh it. Prob 5 ridiculous minutes. No "sorry bought that". No nothing. She just turned and sped off. How this frumpy store stays in business is beyond me. Friendly advise - shop at Standard Market or Kramers instead! read more

We just left Jewel on Holmes. We left our cart of groceries there too, nothing perishable. The line for '15 or Less' had around 20 people in line, one cashier manning the register. There are four stations but only one person working there. This is a consistentNot enough cashiers to check out, no matter what day or time. Did everyone retire? Update 4/20/19 Today, the day before Easter, one person working on the 15 and less line at 12 pm, register #2. The other person who should have been on cash register #1 for 15 and less, was also manning the Customer Service Station. The line was 10-12 people long. Nothing has changed there. However, the Jewel-Osco on Ogden and Cass, now has Self Service check out registers, so the line is nonexistent or moves very fast. Will be using the store even though it's a few miles away, verses three blocks away. Hurray!! Jewel finally got the self check computers back! This was the only solution to the horribly long lines in the store. They can't get enough workers, so this is a solution. I hope this will solve the problem of long lines in the store. read more

I have been *occasionally* going to this Jewel for the past 4 years and have been absolutely disgusted by Patricia ("Been here since 1970") at the customer service desk every time. Today was the last straw and this location needed a review. She is very old and grumpy, but I have tried to look past it and given her a smile each time. However, today, she was the rudest she could be. I went ahead and cashed in a bunch of change at the Coinstar and had to 'redeem' the cash at customer service. When Patricia ended up the one taking care of me, she greeted me with a great, unfriendly look. Something I am used to from her. Who knows, she could still be racist for all I know. The moment I gave her my redemption receipts, she acted like I was serving her a great inconvenience. She practically sighed in annoyance and said that she would have to 'swipe her card' to give me the money. Okay, that's great. I don't need the horrible attitude and sense of inconvenience I am causing her. From start to finish, Patricia acted like I was causing a disservice to her. After I still gave her a polite "thank you," she continued to give me a glaring blank stare. Thank goodness my family is moving. For the time being, we will continue to be loyal Mariano's shoppers because it is workers like her, that make me dislike going to this Jewel-Osco. Honestly, I try to look past that she may be old and frail, but the rudeness is absolutely uncalled for. read more

Jewel-Osco's got some challenges to overcome. How do they position themselves in the new Chicago grocery marketplace? There prices don't seem low enough to be the obvious bargain choice, and they aren't a premium spot like Standard Market or Whole Foods. I'm not really sure what the answer is, but I'm pretty sure they aren't nailing it. There is nothing particularly bad about this Jewel-Osco. It's got a good location and the staff are nice enough. I don't think they have enough checkout lanes, and at peak times, the express line (which funnels into perhaps 3 stations), gets quite backed up. I do like the salad bar. It doesn't have a huge variety, but during the dinner hours, it seems to have fresh items. You'll find chicken wings available under a lamp at the end. I come here quite a bit for convenience reasons. I wish they would find a way to either lower prices significantly or go upscale. Right now they are in a strange in-between place that doesn't work particularly well in my estimation. read more

Staffing very kind and helpful, but this is an unbelievably dirty store both inside and out: all loading docks/garbage areas disgusting, litter along all grounds perimeter, cigarette butts on ground at entrance. This is just for STARTERS. Inside, ceiling air vents filthy, ceiling panels stained and this is just for STARTERS. I walked in the store yesterday last night to buy a couple groceries for my aunt. And i came by a person call Michael. He had on a blue shirt and black pants. Im not sure what position he has in the store. But he has very horrible Customer Service Skills. He was very mean and rude to me. Kept rolling his eyes and everything. If there was a zero-star rating, I would give it to this Jewel. First, EVERY single time they total my order, there are errors--shockingly, it's always in their favor. I ask my children to unload the cart, so I may watch the prices as they are MISRUNG. Yesterday, it was buy one roast, get one free, except for It wasn't free. The cashier knew it the minute I asked. He apologized profusely and said this always happens. He admitted to me, "Jewel rips people off." You can tell the employees are frustrated with the overcharges and subsequent battles with customers. Each trip, the overages average about $5-$15. Every other grocery store can input their prices correctly, but Jewel. Perhaps it's just the one in Clarendon Hills. It also has a terrible produce section, many items are past their time and not replenished with fresh. The deli section has outdated "salads" that look like they have been sitting for days. The one salad that is good and is the reason we do go to this terrible store, is the Chinese Chicken Salad. When I have ordered it, other customers waiting, have commented about how good it is. Here's the catch, they only have it about 30% of the time. One week, it was on sale AND THEY STILL DIDN'T HAVE IT. When you ask, they say, "I can make a batch, it will only take ten minutes." The employees are lifeless and the managers are not doing their job. It always feels like the tone is that they are going out of business any day. This is the WORST grocery store I have ever been to and unfortunately, it's the closest to my house. I would like to say I will never go again, but sometimes it's the quickest fix. PLEASE overhaul this store or knock it down and give us a store that fits the time and offers good customer service. Or at least, STOP RIPPING US OFF. Get your prices right. It's not an accident that every receipt has overages on it. Jewel is a has been store that needs to resort to skimming money from their customers because they can't make it the old-fashioned way with superior products and service. I usually don't come to this jewel bc I have one closer to my home but it is so well organized. I went in for some salad and they didn't have too many options in stock but oh well. The two cashiers Kathi and Pat are so sweet and so funny. We talked about how I tried to eat healthy but could never leave without a candy bar haha. Went to get a meal at the deli for my son. Signage was confusing and the guy behind the counter wasn't much help. We left, with me in a snit. I called the store to discuss "my" confusion and Denise was more than helpful: she went to the counter, photographed the display, discussed options for more signage clarity with me, and offered to pack up (no charge) the meal that we'd hoped to buy. The selection of stuff is just fine, no complaints there! The store has everything that is needed! I can understand why the morale among the staff may appear kind of low. I have seen more than one occasion where a customer has snapped at a cashier for an error and wasted everyone else's time, especially when waiting in line. There is nothing that can be done to control the type of people who shop there and the customer is always "right". But my "fair rating" is based on negative experience coming from listening to those particular fellow shoppers. If you want to complain, that is what customer service is for! I've found 3 errors on my receipts, and the last store manager I had to deal with to get refunds was exceedingly disrespectful and condescending.
