They have a substantial amount of prepared and hot foods. They look like they typically have excellent fresh produce. I really enjoy the Pete's Market grocery stores. read more

My overall expereince with the store is good. However today my experience dealing with the customer service desk was not a good one. Bought mandarin oranges on sale for 4.99. Terrible. Also asked deli if they had some items not expiring. Woman said no they don't remake until after expiration date. Overpriced and unsafe. Hot food bar did not have items clearly marked with main ingredients (tray labeled "rice" was actually "cajun salmon rice" - finely shredded salmon blended in with seasoned rice). Better not to try it if you follow a certain diet - vegetarian, vegan, etc. Manager apologized and said he would follow up with staff; regardless, that is too big an issue for many people for Pete's to be playing fast and loose with signage. I returned the following day for a refund offered by the "manager" I spoke with. Pete's refused to refund the purchase to my credit card. Only store credit was offered. I like Pete's. I like their hot and cold buffets. What I don't like is that there is no Pete's on the north side of Chicago. It's everywhere else. I would go there more often if there was one closer to me. Otherwise, I can only go when I'm traveling, and near a Pete's. read more

I love this place because they have all of the freshest produce options next to the local farmers market. There is always a variety and exactly what I'm looking for. The groceries selctions are available and in stock always. I come here for my meats including lamb and goat specifically and I'm always able to get some. Compared to my neighborhood stores the meat appears fresher here and more available options. The service is mostly good there is always enough staff even in there busy deli section. It's a great grocery store personally that caters culturally to many and you will leave with something. Probably more than you intended. My only con is that I wish the rewards and coupon program was more beneficial. It seems like it applies to more homegoods needs than foods and beverages. read more

Was my place to go! The food is awesome but the girls at the register are mean and don't care! I nearly asked if the girl knew the price of candy by the register and she told me to step off of line two registers over and ask them! I asked if she could scan it she said no then after I was finished and went to customer service to check the price she ran after me saying she would do it! I understand this is part of life but every time I walk into this store there is drama! No containers to but salad in. Very clean and love the selection of fresh fruits. The bakery selection was amazing with large sizing for a good price. Everyone I came across was friendly and helpful. This place carries great and extremely affordable, fresh produce, lots of international products and cheeses, and other unique products. The more I shop at Pete's the more I kick myself for not including it in my weekly grocery rotation. I honestly forget about Pete's; out of sight out of mind. It's not super convenient, but it's not super inconvenient either. 5 stars for a grocery store is a big deal for me. Here's why: * Largest selection of practically everything. Ethnic items (most countries are well represented), produce, fruit, dairy, meat (Halal included) , TEA (insane amount), prepared foods, bakery (I'm addicted to their soft chocolate chip cookies). * FRESH produce and fruits. In all my visits I have never seen unsightly veggies or fruit. Never. * Nice fresh seafood selection (but I've never seen Skate here, boo). * Fresh juice bar. Take your pick. * Good sales. * My receipt reflects correct pricing (can you say that about Mariano's?). * TEA. Insane amounts (worth repeating). Seriously come here if you're looking for a certain flavor or brand. * Good tunes while you shop. On each visit I've seen workers replenish stock in more than one aisle. This store feels CLEAN and organized. There's nothing like an eye sore of rotting produce that should've been removed days ago. Sales are pretty good as well. Not everything, but I've found avocados for $.79 on more than one trip when all of my go-to stores had them for $2, and I always keep them on hand. First time seeing yellow watermelon was here. They carry such a wide selection of everything it's overwhelming. Seriously it can be challenging to shop here at times.. Fish assortment is nice. I've never ever seen Jumbo oysters at a grocery store until now. The label stated "Supreme Lobster" so that's where their coming from, and yet I've never seen them at Supreme either (things that make you go hmmm). Good vegan section, so many non dairy milk & creamers to choose from. Ethnic aisles are impressive especially Middle Eastern (not that I buy many Middle Eastern products, just sayin). I was memorized by all the items I never knew of...it's totally not unlike me to browse for an hour and just read labels of interesting finds, then throw them in my cart and end up with enough bags to fill an entire trunk (it's becoming a bad, expensive habit). So many herbal teas! This was the worst aisle for me. I couldn't break away since I've been on a tea adventure lately. I was buying many from Amazon (rip off). If your looking for a specific brand or type, stop here first. They even have Eastern European, Mediterranean & Middle Eastern teas. They have quite a few items I've only been able to find at Fresh Farms which is a another huge plus. Prepared food section had some nice looking Greek chicken & lemon potatoes. $8.99/lb seems high, but when pressed for time it was a good alternative and restaurant quality. Hot bars tend to freak me out a little (the whole sanitary thing) so I usually stay away from, yet I felt comfortable here. They have trays and trays of so much food.. Parking lot is not the greatest with narrow lanes. I can only imagine it's a clusterf*ck on peak hours & weekends....noooo, you won't find me here then. In a nutshell, I can come here and get most if not all of my shopping done without having to shlep to 3 stores. If that's not the biggest perk to shop here, I don't know what is. Holy cats, 5 stars for the world's greatest salad bar!! It's pricey, but totally worth it for the quality and variety of offerings like this crazy good bean salad and fresh giant blackberries- in late October. Tasted like they were just picked. Well done, Pete's salad bar team!! This is a really huge store. Very tidy. Fully stocked. It truly has everything, even fresh tulips. Again, in October. I like coming and shopping here at Pete's. They have a great selection of fresh veggies, fruits and variety of meat. The produce section is always fresh. This is the only place I like coming to for my produce items. It's always a crowd up in here and the parking lot is crazy. Make sure to drive super care while looking for a park. People will dash out in front of you like a deer. The prices are moderate it just depends on the brand and your preference. The staff is friendly and will help you navigate your way through the aisles. This location has so many sections: a sushi bar, deli counter, a salad bar, open food counter where you can go get some freshly made food and a dessert area. The meat is package so nicely and always looks fresh. They even have an outside cute little patio to go outside and eat your lunch from one of the deli counters. This is one of my fave place to come and buy my groceries. read more

I just got back from my first time shopping at Pete's, the one in Oakbrook Terrace. I figured I'd just check it out and spend a few minutes there. We ended up spending about 1-1/2 hours! Grocery stores in cities we visit is kind of a hobby of ours, so we've seen many all over the world. Pete's is one of the top. I've never seen such a variety of items from all countries. Russia, Croatia, Poland, Greece, Latvia (!), Bosnia, and on and on. And more than a whole aisle for Indian products. There's a special section for halal meat; not for me, but just the idea of it. There was a real variety of brands of even everyday items by everyday brands that I'd never seen. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store is really neat and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Others have commented that it's pricey, but I didn't think so. And for this variety of things, I feel it's worth it. It's so much better than Whole Foods, imho. The checkout lines could be better arranged, but that's about it. read more

Ummm, Pete? Where have you been all of my life? Here's why you get five stars. As an Asian, there are certain things like fish balls that I have to drive at least 35 minutes to get. But then I have to go to someplace like Mariano's to get decent Italian sausage or meat. Don't worry about fish balls if you don't know what they are. Just trust me on this. After deciding to try Pete's, I was blown away at the diverse ingredients. When I saw nopales and caldo mixes, I thought it was a mainly Hispanic grocery store that dabbled into other countries and ingredients. And then I thought it was a Middle Eastern grocery store because I kept seeing Halal-approved items. And finally, I just decided it was an awesome store that has a little bit of everything. They have frozen fish balls, house-made giardinera, a pretty impressive Indian/Paki section, lots of different cuts of lamb, fresh seafood, and a crap ton of all sorts of spices that's typically hard to find in one store. Not going to lie, I was a bit overwhelmed. As someone who loves to cook all sorts of cuisines and has major food ADD, I loved the fact that I can find some legit items all in one store. Not everything in the hot deli section looked super appetizing but the good in this store definitely beat out the bad. Fish balls man! read more

I bought a couple of things, including pie and vanilla Gelato. Drove straight home and opened them up, the Gelato was separated and had re froze with a large layer of ice at the bottom, threw it away, figured atleast I still had the pie, cut into it and there was green mould!!! Very nice store if not a little pricey. Always very clean and better stocked then any store I have ever been in. I came here for a late lunch at 4:30 before my 5:30 meeting. Walking down the aisle towards the deli I noticed a section in the shelf that wasn't stocked like everything else. I found out why when I got there Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar for $4.99 for 32 oz. (normally $6,99-$9.99 depending on the store). I bought 3 bottles for that price. Lucky me I also got a salad with spinach, asparagus, beef teriyaki, bleu cheese, roasted red peppers, quinoa salad, pecans, black olives, cranberries and mushrooms - $7.09 ehh more then the Apple Cider Vinegar read more

We stopped by on a Friday, our first time shopping at a Pete's Fresh Market. Liked that they had Boar's head hummus and cheese samples. Great selection for the aisles that we checked, beyond the usual items you'll find at Mariano's, Jewel, Whole Foods. Their ice cream aisle was pretty good! We saw a few brands and flavors that we haven't found before in Chicago, only in our travels. Got their steak taco salad ($6.99) and some hot foods, not bad. In my neck in the woods in the city, grocery quality has gone downhill quite a bit. Things looked promising when Mariano's bought Dominick's, but now that Mariano's themselves got bought out things have looked bleak. I mean, people in my neighborhood group on Facebook post pics and get excited when Jewel actually has fresh produce. It's a sad state. So while driving out in the burbs on a Sunday, I thought we should grab some groceries before heading home. I had heard of Pete's but I've never been. What a great choice this was. Aisles upon aisles of bright fresh produce! Tons of choices from the butcher area, including lamb and veal. A variety of cured Polish sausages. Even a whole array of Filipino spice/sauce packets! We were coming from having a buffet brunch, or else we would have tried the large selection they had in their hot bar area. Service was fine, the only issue I ran into was I couldn't find where their bathrooms are. I'm sad that there aren't any Pete's closer to where I live, but for a city slicker like myself this place feels like a wondrous oasis. read more

This is still a good grocery store but I just had disappointing experience. The gems at this store is huge produce and prepared foods sections. If those were all this store had... it would be weird. So they have the rest if the store too and it's challenging to find what you're looking for. Their mid store is total cluster. Aisles are too narrow for two carts to get by each other. Their parking spaces are really narrow too. So you can find spots but it's always an adventure getting into and out of them. I'll probably be back for lunch some time. But probably not my first pick for day to day groceries. read more

I come here for groceries strictly because it's close to my home, and I usually get meat at the deli counter. But I have been more hesitant because the deli slicers do not wear masks anymore. Any one who is handling food should be wearing a mask, ESPECIALLY during a pandemic, which we are still in. I see the gross deli slicers wipe their noses and cough without covering their mouths. It's pretty disgusting, and even if it will take me MONTHS; I will be searching for a grocer who cares about their community and wants others masked for protection. Only going to give this store 3 stars. The produce department is nice, I like the selection which is very large. They have a huge cheese section and nice lunch meat counter. What I don't like is the meat department, some really strange cuts of meats. I went in looking for a nice pot roast and could not find one at all. I found all sorts of meats and cuts I've never heard of before. Maybe they are meats other ethnic people purchase, not really sure. Don't feel they have a good selection in canned goods. So my company moved into this neighborhood and I have been buying my lunch at Pete's fresh market during that time. Mostly I would grab food from the salad bar which was marked as $9.99/ pound. One day, not long ago, I noticed the cashier had been charging me $10.99/ pound. I pointed out the mistake to the lady And she informed me that since I had put a scoop of ceviche on the salad, she would be charging me the $10.99 price on the whole thing - since that was the price of the ceviche (which this Ponzi scheme of a grocery store has posted in one small corner above one tray of food) but hey, since there is shrimp in it, I guess I understood. Although, it would have been nice if she informed me in any of the numerous times we talked over the prior few months and suggested that I put the tiny little scoop of overpriced food in its own container so as to not be charged that price for the whole thing. She didn't (perhaps the cashiers profit share?) In light of the dollar a trip the store defrauded me out of, I decided to skip Pete's for Mariano's (a far better grocery store chain IMO) BUT after about a month, I was in a rush, and Pete's was closer - so what the heck let's give them another try. I go back in and grab a salad and take a scoop of imitation crab salad - which is directly under the $9.99 / pound sign AND clearly not Ceviche. I go to a different cashier and as sure as the sun is shining, the lady overcharges me again. When I point it out, she tells me ceviche is $10.99 a pound. I'll tell her that imitation crab salad it's not ceviche. She tells me anything that is seafood is considered ceviche. I'll tell her to keep the glorified cod salad and leave this con shop grocery store for the last time. I will not be returning to Pete's. If they are willing to steal from and defraud their customers over a dollar, Lord knows what they do to the food they sell to try to rip off the public. read more

Now from years ago, I said this: "The BAD. The hot bar and salad bar. This is what I wrote in my last review: "Here's where the trouble came in for me and why I docked it a star. Unlike the other places, the seafood and other items were in pretty close proximity to the other enough were cross contamination could happen. I noticed that they had chicken in the same area as fried catfish and rice in the same area as salmon. I have said in many reviews that if there is anything that could pose a cross contamination threat, those items should be apart. Get that issue fixed and they'll get the extra star." Guess what? This is no longer a problem. I have been back 3 times in the last few months & noticed they were MUCH more vigilant that they were when I did the first review. I only hope something didn't happen to force the issue but the bottom line is, that issue has been corrected. That is from what I saw. I enjoy shopping here, everything looks well maintained almost a Marianos feel to the place maybe better. Prices are reasonable and u get all kinds of cuisine in the international section. The produce is second to none and there is SO MUCH VARIETY. I can find anything there I need. Negatives - it's hard to find things and they move stuff around all the time which is annoying. The aisles are narrow, too; you can't fit two carts side by side. But overall I make Pete's my last stop for any grocery trip to get anything that the other grocery stores don't have and when the other grocery stores don't have good produce. read more

There are never enough lanes open or any managers available. It was bad before covid and it's worse even now. They're over priced and over rated. The aisles are extremely narrow and they attempt to fill every square inch of this large store with product. It's unbelievable how such a large store can have such limited space to move around. They could learn a thing or two from Whole Foods and I hate to say it, Mariano's. I advise to steer clear. read more

The really frustrating part of coming here is the are never enough cashiers and constantly long lines. I get out faster at Costco then going to Pete's with only a few items. This review ia for the deli/salad bar. Who knew you could get such a great lunch at a super market without having to cook it?! The selection is amazing. Four full bars: 3 self serve - 1 build your own salad, 1 prepared salads, 1 hot fried food and hot sides; and 1 hot bar attended by deli servers with entrees and other steam table sides that also features sushi grab and go's AND EVEN POKE BOWLS!! You can have your pick and fill of items like roast beef, lasagna, rice pilaf, roasted cauliflower, chicken wings, crab cakes, caprese salad, broccoli salad, soups, and so much more!!! All for about $8-10 per pound. They also have an AMAZING dessert bar with house made pastries, gelato and MOCHI ICE CREAM! However the mochi is really too stiff for my taste and doesnt taste authentic. I haven't tried anything else from the dessert section but they offer SO many varieties. Seriously it is not easy to impress me, but consider me impressed! Especially since this is inside a grocery store. There is a decent indoor seating dining room and also outdoor patio seating for when the weather is nice. Of course it hasa grocery store parking lot but they have some bike parking hidden on the far west side of the building, which is the opposite of where the dining area is.
