Produce and butcher/meat area never have proper pricing on items. Have to spend time figuring out prices. Many instances of items not having sales prices properly marked. Had issues twice this week with meat that was on sale that did not ring up on sale. Buy one get one free items. Service desk was useless as all they wanted to do was say I was the one at fault for their bad pricing. At least we have a Woodman's nearby. They are employee owned and I never have issues like I have at Jewel. I get the bulk of my groceries there. read more

Unfortunately I agree with most of the reviews. The baggers and checkers, really the males, make underhanded comments about everything you buy and it makes me feel uncomfortable. Ive also come home with way too many expired products. I do try to check them in store but as a parent I don't always have the attention to check $200 worth of groceries. You really have to watch the produce as well. It's rotten a lot. And the meat, well sometimes looks gray. It's to the point now where the only thing I buy here is alcohol and toilet paper. It really is terrible that I have to go further away to different stores, but this jewel, is just awful. If you do go here..definitely check, 90 sec bags of rice, salad dressings, all dairy, all produce, meat, bread, and any condiments. read more

They use to be ok. Now their prices are higher than most places on many items. Their employees are treated like crap, so they're understaffed. It's rather messy. They really need someone keeping an eye on freezer doors, they get left open then the top shelf items end up caked in ice and freezer burnt. There's often no one at the bakery during the weekend early evening hours 5-7pm (couldn't find anyone several times over the last year) . This location is clean and typically well stocked. But the parking lot is much too small. The spots and aisles are packed tightly to create more spots, but it's so bad I'll avoid coming here. And my check out experience hasn't been bad, but the lines are consistently long and block the flow of traffic into the shopping aisles. In their defense, I only come to this location during what I would expect to be high volume times of day (lunch and immediately after work). What happened to the old days where the checkout person was a nice lady who would just Exchange pleasantries and do her job? You go to this Jewel and you have smart ass males who make underhand smart-ass comments to the bagger while you're in line getting your items rung up. Half the comments are directed toward me or whoever the victim is / customer it's like they want to have a contest of wits, which by the way is no contest they are at quite a disadvantage. Kyle was the cashier and Paul the bagger. This was September 22nd 2021 around 2 p.m. ish. This jewel is horrible. I moved a mile down the road, I ordered groceries for online delivery and PAID for the 1 hour window same day delivery. I just called and was told my groceries would either be delivered after 11pm or tomorrow when I work a double shift. We schedule and pay for the convenience... and you drop the ball. This is a Jewel that I don't live by, so I haven't had the opportunity to shop there. That said, one afternoon, I stopped there to pick up a few items that I needed for dinner. Although it isn't a huge store by today's standards, it had a nice variety of products to choose from. It also had a bakery, deli, floral department, and pharmacy, which all seemed to cover whatever basic items you might need for life's daily events. The store itself was also organized and well-maintained. Checking out was hassle free. When I shop, I no longer put my purse in the shopping cart because I don't want to risk it being stolen from the basket. On my trip to this store, distracted with life, I put my handbag down after I had paid for my groceries and put the bags into the cart. It wasn't until I'd gotten all the way home that I realized I'd left my purse at Jewel. The purse had sentimental meaning because it had been a gift from my sister. As soon as I recognized it was missing, I called the store, hoping someone had been good enough to turn it in. Thankfully, my purse was at the customer service counter and had been turned in. It did something to my heart to know that people can still be counted on to do the right thing. We stopped in to the florist last Sunday to select some flowers for a housewarming. I did not catch the florist's name, but she was wonderful. She noticed us noticing her display and asked if she could box up one of her beautiful bouquets. She suggested we pick out a card, gave us a pen, and added an envelope. She took extra care to make sure our pumpkin bouquet was wrapped up and tied everything with a bow. It was beautiful, and she was lovely. read more

Been ages since I've gone into a Jewel store. With so many cheaper, more natural, and (in my opinion) fresher grocery options, I'm quite honestly not sure why people continue to shop at Jewel! They certainly have a lot of competition to overcome if they want to ever gain back my allegiance. I happened to stop in to this store because I was looking for one particular item (a rainbow trout), and it was the only grocery store directly on my way home. I figured that if they had the item, I'd stock up on a few other things. They did not have the item, but by then I had grabbed a few things on my way back to the butcher shop. I couldn't believe the prices! These are the same items that, at Caputo's, are a dollar or two cheaper - and I had considered Caputo's to be the pricier grocery option, in comparison to a Target or Wal-Mart. Needless to say, I ended up putting everything back and walking out without a thing. I drove to Pete's Fresh Market a few blocks away and grabbed everything I needed, and saved some cash on the purchase too. Though the store seemed clean and relatively well-stocked otherwise, I quite honestly will only go to a Jewel as the last resort these days, simply due to the exorbitant prices. read more

Not a great Jewel. Not even for a quick stop. I forgot to bring a lunch to work and since I needed to stop at the Chase bank right next door, I figured I could stop at Jewel and grab something. I basically wasted most of my lunch break here. The parking lot is always full. This is mainly because the Jewel parking lot serves as the parking lot for the surrounding businesses as well. The exit and entrance is awful too. There's always a traffic jam since cars park along the side of the parking lot, so there really isn't a lot of room for coming and going. Anyway, back to the Jewel itself. It was hard navigating the aisles because the checkout lines were full. I made my way to the magazine section because I needed a hairstyle magazine. The setup is nice, as it says "reading center" above the rack. However, you need to be about 6'6" to reach 1/3 of the magazines. And of course, the hair magazines were in the far back on the top shelf. I'm average height and the only way I'd be able to reach those magazines was if I stood on a chair. I wasn't going to do that so I said forget it and walked away. Other Jewels have all magazines within arm's reach. Maybe a little old lady MIGHT have some trouble, but here, she definitely would. I go to check out and search for the self-checkout. Oh right. Some of the Jewels took them away and this was one of them. So instead of quickly being able to pay for my stuff and get out, I waited in one of two express lanes for 10 minutes. Not quite so express. And of course when I get up there, my cashier has to deal with someone asking a question at the oddly placed customer service line behind her. Yeesh. I'm going to avoid this Jewel as much as possible. read more

I recently moved to Elmhurst and this jewel is about 3 miles from my house, so naturally I ended up there for groceries. My initial impression wasn't that great since there were many items out of stock and the lines were so long it was difficult to get from one aisle to the next at the front of the store but it was my first experience and it was on the weekend so I chalked it up to a busy day. I have now been back to this location half a dozen times and I will not be shopping here anymore. Half of the time, the shelves aren't stocked and as a result I leave the store regularly without several of the items on my list. I have shopped on various days at various times so it doesn't seem to matter when you go this is typically the case. My next issue is that I always have to check items with an expiration date, such as milk, yogurt, etc because items are regularly expired in the shelves. Lastly, the produce section is not the best. Strawberries are almost always rotten and when shopping this last time there were fruit flies flying around them. I have shopped at jewel in other towns for many years and I have never had a complaint. This one is clearly mismanaged and as a result, I will no longer be shopping there. read more

The absolute worst deli service in area. No hands down. All they care about last hour of service between 9 and 10pm is getting the helll out of there. Only one person will serve people and one will clean up and not help when needed so we all just wait and wait. Well I walked. I don't get it. Same thing at night in front and checkout, one guy on checkout but he also cover the automated lines which mean you wait and wait and wait while he rings people up and you have a problem on automated machine checkout. I am a faithful Jewel Osco shopper and live closest to the Wooddale Road in Addison Jewel. However, my favorite Jewel is at 944 York Road in Elmhurst!! Whenever I'm in the area I go straight to this Jewel. It is well maintained and the employees are most helpful. My FAVORITE employee is Lori Williams in the Deli Department! She always greets me with a smile and no matter how busy she is (which seems to be always!), she patiently waits until I decide on my order. I will add that the Deli department is very well run and kudos to the department manager. I wish this store was closer to my home or that the Wooddale Road Jewel could replicate 944 York Road. read more

They had rotten chicken in their case. I showed it to the store director and he told me that's how it's supposed too smell sometimes because packaging. I'm not even sure what that means but I've worked in meat departments a while, they're chicken is bad and their staff doesn't care. Go elsewhere, for your own health. read more

I loved the fact that even though Dominicks closed in IL they didn't stay the same, they evolved because the other others were opening soon. The employees are helpful and generally pretty nice. The hot bar... over priced and no one takes care of it regarding presentation. Everything looks old, over cooked and dry. Also some of the items Ive tried just arent good. The seating area is way the hell by the cash registers. What a wonderful view! I just love seeing people scratch their ass while I sink my teeth into my meal! The prepared meals are expensive. The sushi is so-so. The $5 items like egg rolls are... I tossed 4 in the garbage. They were that bad. The pre-seasoned meats... worst seasoning choices and it doesnt say what they are seasoned with! I picked out thinly cut pork. What did they put on it? Celery salt!!! And so much of it I had to literally scrub it all off and then soak the meat in pineapple juice just to salvage it. They did have fresh juices like tomato which was insanely good. Then their machine broke down and they never replaced it. No more tomato juice! Their prices are high but they do pay their employees well. The butcher (who doesnt do much of anything that Ive ever seen) at the Southern Elmhurst store makes $25/hr! Name starts with an E and he smells like weed. Anyhow It is what it is. This store is going to hell in a handbag. The assistant manager admitted to me in an e-mail that they have been having "hiccups." That's putting it mildly. They are lucky Dominick's closed because they are the only game on the south side of town now. Dominick's tended to be a little more expensive, but the quality of the shopping experience was so much more pleasant, whereas going to this Jewel is like a trip to the dentist - one goes because one has to, not because one wants to.. I really miss my Dominick's. The new salad bar hours are listed as being until 9:00 pm, yet if one goes in at dinner time, there are usually one or more empty to nearly empty bins. The items on offer are not changed up very often. I would like to see a pretty basic pasta salad, but no. Last week some genius who cut up the pineapple included the core, nicely diced. Who in food service does that? Someone with no clue. It seems that since they remodeled, they carry fewer items, many of which I used to buy. It seems as though they are trying to compete with Mariano's, which is not going to happen. The staff, for the most part is friendly and helpful. After complaining, male cashiers have stopped asking me whether I'm old enough to purchase alcohol (I'm 65). I never heard them ask male customers the same question, nor was I ever asked that question by female cashiers. I found it demeaning, not remotely amusing. I wish the former manager, Mr. Fisher were back. It was a much better run store under him. And as a previous reviewer said, the parking lot is a nightmare, but to be honest, there isn't much they can do; they're landlocked. read more

I have been shopping at this Jewel for two years and it has consistently gone downhill. Today I just returned a whole chicken that I bought yesterday. When I opened the package to cook it, it smelled and the chicken was slimy. However the sell date was still two days away. No one could find the manager so that I could make him aware of the problem. I LOVE THIS STORE!!! They are open 24 hours a day (except for the major departments like pharmacy and the deli), they have great prices on milk ($2.22 per gallon) and some of the best customer service in the world. I've been going to this Jewel since I was a kid. I really like what they're doing with the customer service aspect. The prices have significantly dropped in the past year, they're cheaper than Wal-Mart sometimes, which is great. Their deli counter has fantastic sandwiches now. Their craft beer selection is pretty sweet, especially the craft your own six pack. I'm going to miss Jewel in Minneapolis. Definitely coming back here whenever I'm home to visit. read more

I was shopping at the Jewel on Schiller in Elmhurst yesterday when in the produce dept. by the bananas a mouse ran across the floor toward the bread area. It then scurried along the bottom of the counter before sneaking under it. I informed one person behind the counter and two people at the checkout who didn't seem alarmed at all replying it's common and that they had traps set in the back for them??? I was told this isn't the first sighting as they would also climb up by the cash registers and eat the chocolate bars....Seriously??? Unless I'm in desperate need of a "canned item" Jewel has lost my business. read more

This Jewel is an embarrassment to the community of Elmhurst. It's filthy dirty and the service is poor. The Pharmacy is even a joke. It takes them forever to fill a prescription and often times they don't have the prescription on hand. I can't tell you how many times I've had to go elsewhere bc they are out of the medicine. But getting back to the food store.....whoever is managing this place needs to take a look in the mirror. I bet they shop elsewhere. read more

Looked up the store to make sure it was open before I drove there only to find the 24 hour store was closed. All of the employees inside saw me but avoided eye contact. Waste of time easily avoidable if they posted actual hours. Called while standing in the empty parking lot only to be reassured they were open 24 hours while the actual doors were locked. Checking out with a pre-packaged corn on the cob, 5 ears, sign underneath said 2 for $1. I figured $2.50. Rang up $5. Price check they said still $5. I said no. Finished checking out and went back to produce. I was correct on the sign. Spoke to Omar, manager of produce. He said, it's $5. I said, what about the sign. He said, that's wrong, it's for individual corn. I said, where is that. He said, we're out. I said, take down the sign then, it's incorrect. He didn't, so I did. He said, you can't do that. I proceeded to the door. I heard him say something. I went back and asked him what he said. He ignored me then said, I said have a nice day. I said, no you didn't you said something about Mariano's. He said, yea I did, it's right down the street go shop there. I asked his name. He said, Omar, what is your name. I told him. Went up to management and told her what happened and her mouth dropped. So bottom line is Omar recommended we shop at Mariano's, so that's what we all should do. read more

I didn't think things could get worse-but they have. No shade on the folks who work at this store-still suffering from bone head management. The latest? They have installed self checkout and since Easter, there are four cart lineups at every station-avg. wait time: 20 minutes. I said to the customer sighing in frustration behind me, "They put in self check-out so things will go faster." Before she realized I was being sarcastic, she pointed out the long wait at self-checkout. Add to the $4 price tag on a bunch of celery, four bucks for Coffee Mate and, wait for it, more than $5 for a little pint of Ben and Jerry's and I'm over it. I spent a grand a month at this store because I shop for more than one family and live nearby. They are driving out good cashiers-like the polite kid that would do a little bow after checking you out-and the tall guy-think his name is Kyle, is super fast and smart. He, sadly, stands in a corner and tries to help all those in line trying to check themselves out. If you want to pay more for less quality and service, this is your store. I bought Jewel 85% hamburger meat and it was nice and red on the outside and brown on the inside. They have one scale for the whole fruit and vegetables REALLY ! The price tickets are placed so your not sure if they belong to item on the left or right of it seen this by the apples and other items. I will do my shopping at Walmart or Mariano's . read more

I've been here only a few times in my life but I recently visited here just to use their TCF Bank. I ended up shopping for dinner items when I approached one of the deli counters. One of the guys behind the counter noticed us looking and assumed that we were about to approach him. That is when he yelled saying that we needed a number. I found it very rude to jump to conclusions when all we really wanted was to look first before purchasing. I would never go there again. Luckily we hurried out after that embarrassing event and checked out with a nicer person, the cashier, Brittany.
