This is my Jewel, the Jewel I go to when I need milk for my 23 month old; the Jewel I go to when I need organic fruits and veggies for my four and six year old; the Jewel I go to on weekends only to get the mymixx. This is "My Jewel." Everything is so organized, which I appreciate. I know the aisles front and back and hail the manager for setting it up this way. My last visit entailed manager Dean helping me out in addition to young Noah. However, I love all staff there including Judy and others. They all treat you like you are their neighbor. Felt like I walked onto walking dead.. people not friendly, no excuse me, till I asked worker for an item, he went in back and got 2 limited items(wears glasses) very helpful.. check out not friendly at all, no how are you, no smile.. but the customer service rep was great with my unclipped items I needed a refund on.. so overall not bad but wouldn't return to this jewel again. read more

Wow, they really updated the place. Very nice. The staff was awesome. The minute I walked in the door. A produce man asked me if I needed assistance, boy did I. That noticeable, eh? He was extremely helpful. They moved everything. His name was i think Marville or similar to that. Tyler and Matt in the meat dept. And a very tall female who was an angel she has worked there a long time i will update name soon. I couldn't reach certain foods on the 3 shelf. She did it. For me. Parking was easy. Great sale prices. They did run out of stuff very quickly. Sadly, many, many things were not available. We got there at 10 am, and still they didn't have many items, I just k ow it has to be deliveries, not an inventory problem. Yes, I was right. Some trucks are on strike. I was out cycling and went in to buy 2 bananas and they tried charging me $3.00 i said theres no way 2 bananas costs $3.00 the guy behind the counter insisted that that's what it cost with a real snotty pompus attitude so i said just forget it and rode to Trader Joes and bought 3 bananas for 76 cents. read more

They never have any of the items points are used for in stock. If it's a scam, stop using the point system. If you're going to have a point system for your regular customers, actually offer items that points can be exchanged for. At this point, it's intentional. Shopping here is not a pleasant experience. I use an insurance card that gives me rewards for purchasing healthy foods and other items, and none of the checkers know how to deal with it. I always have to find a manager or a supervisor, all the while holding up the impatient line in back of me. I've been using this card for well over a year, and none of the checkers have a clue. They don't train them how to handle it. The store personnel are not friendly or service-oriented at all. They give the impression that they don't like working there. These people sell expired food. I thought I'd be OK without checking the date on the milk and boy was I wrong to trust this store has any quality control. Then I called the manager, Joe and he just gave me attitude. Didn't even apologize until I started getting very upset. Would not recommend this Jewel to anyone. This location has gotten worse. My mom who is African American went to the pharmacy to purchase medicine, and when she was leaving the store, a lady who worked the front end named Connie short Hispanic lady with her hair pulled in a ponytail decides to walk fast behind my mom. She stopped my mom and said "excuse me ma'am can I see your receipt, they said you stole something" so my mom showed her the receipt from the pharmacy looking puzzled at the lady. Then my mom asked "who is they"? Connie didn't answer. Needless to say Connie looked stupid after seeing my mom's receipt. According to the manager Pete, they don't have loss prevention. So no cameras? So how would Connie have known if someone stole something? How is this store being ran? This isnt the first time Connie has acted crazy to customers. She also went off on me, putting her hand in my face as if to tell me to shut up, going back and forth with me getting loud and arguing with me because she was too lazy to open up the store on time. The staff was even coming in left and right late for their shift and having an attitude with paying customers. I don't think Connie and other staff at this location even like black people let alone themselves. That's why they talk and treat black people the way they do. While shopping with my father-in-law, he got super dizzy and weak in the grocery store. 3 employees came, got him water and stayed with him until he started feeling better. The care and concern these employees showed, is one of the reasons I shop here. It's a neighborhood Jewel - where everyone knows your name. I, however, would like to point out to Jewel Corporate that they need to keep the people that we have come to know and love and stop transferring them to other stores. This jewel is horrible! Their meat is always gray, their fruit is always rotten. Everytime I seem to go, I get home and find something that I just bought freakin expired. Maybe you should hire ppl that actually check the dates when they are stocking. I just brought a pint of icecream that has been expired for 4 months...not 1 month...4 months! Most people do not like to shop but these guys help us get past that, as they make shopping fun. Most of the staff here help everyone and go that extra mile too. I signed up for a special discounts deal called MyMixx, and we save lots of money, buying things we were buying already. Yikes. You would think it would be difficult to give a grocery store 1 star, but in this case, it's not. This Jewel is really just... bad. The produce is the worst I have seen in the area -- wilty, browning, old, etc. Even the baby carrots are funky looking. How do you not have normal baby carrots??? They do not normally have any good sale prices (there is the occasional exception) and honestly, I would not eat their meats. Items are often expired or will be the next day. Sketchy. The employees here all have looks on their faces like they hate their lives. I have to say I would, too, if I worked there. I live very close-by, so I do use their pharmacy, but the employees there are very slow (but I will say, they are nice and very helpful, especially compared to the grocery store employees), the line is often long, and using the drive-through pick-up doesn't seem to save any time. That's annoying to me. Make the drive somewhere else and avoid this store unless you need something super standard at the last minute (maybe pasta sauce or toilet paper or something) and you happen to live literally right next door. read more

Jewel's is also my "oops I need something now" store because it is true their prices are not competing with Super Walmart or the bulk pricing of Sam's Club. We shop where the sales are. However, my husband works for the corporation so we try to shop here and support the check writers whenever we can. Saturday morning was one of those occasions when I had to stop in for last minute items. I just have to say I absolutely love it when the staff is friendly and make you feel that they're glad you came to shop there. (Heck don't people get it that when we come to your establishment, that's job security?) Seriously, kudos to the managers on duty making sure their team is pumped up and read to serve. Consumers have a multitude of choices in this day and age. No longer can companies survive because of size and branding, major customer service has to come into play. They're trying hard for your business at this location. Bagger to me, "Come on over to this line. Let me help you unload you cart". Grabs my loaf of french bread places it on the conveyer belt and says, "I didn't want you to think I was loafing around". I know, corny....but she made me chuckle while I was spending money. Though not the worst supermarket I've stepped foot in, I cannot believe how dumpy, out-of-date, dirty and smelly this Jewel is. I recently moved to La Grange Park and was dismayed to find out that this is our closest grocery store. Its condition is certainly not in line with what this neighborhood expects -- especially with a Trader Joe's less than a mile away! Their produce is lacking, the isles are clausterphobic, and it looks like it hasn't been updated since the late 80s. Sadly, we're kind of stuck going there for some of the city service items (like garbage tags). It's a nice bike ride away, but I think we'll wind up driving to the Westchester Dominicks for the everyday staples instead. read more

Since it has been re-done, it's really nice. There's a lobster tank at the meat and seafood counter now. While I'm still not a fan of grocery shopping, this Jewel is a lot nicer now and that makes the trip to the store better. read more

This store is awful - they are constantly out of the most basic items (like chicken). There are virtually no ethnic items or anything more diverse than make your own taco kits. A far cry from stores that make an effort like Pete's and largely a waste of time. read more

If I could give the pharmacy at this store zero stars, I would. 5 people in my family on meds at all times- kids going back and forth to college and need meds transferred. They have NEVER been able to figure this out without some sort of problem/ either not transferring it, not being able to bill insurance, etc. we NEVER have this problem when we transfer away from this store. And you NEVER get a call about the problem until you show up to pick up the meds. Had a flu shot there and the girl who gave it to me hit my bursar sac instead of my are muscle 6 weeks of shoulder pain and therapy ensued. Marriano's in Westchester on 31st & Wolf is where you want to go. Sadly, this JEWEL is only used for emergencies by me. This isn't the JEWEL of your childhood. This is the JEWEL that was purchased by the chain Albertsons and drives high costs to prop up their parent company. JEWEL is a "price prohibitive" shopping experience for me. Their meats and deli counter WAY out of line on price and not worth the agitation from their people to their managers. I see they are now trying to even look like a Marriano's by setting up the store in the same way, same carts, same food services, same products only to be tainted by the JEWEL and Albertson's inferior products at the highest of prices that are trying to be passed off as high quality Marriano's food. Case in point ~ a hot food bar that is only stocked with JEWEL chicken wings. The same chicken wings that you use to sell behind the Deli counter. Really?!?!?! You're fooling no one. read more

I've stopped in here several times as I work nearby I always say it will be my last time as there is always a wait if I go on my lunch break, the majority of the registers not open. That last time definitely was my "one star" visit. I wanted to buy chicken thighs - the store had NONE, so I ended up buying breasts. The package was leaking badly so I put a produce bag around it and warned the checker and bagger that it was leaking. When I got home my fresh produce had been bagged in the same bag as the leaky chicken and was covered with chicken juice. I ended up throwing out all my veggies as they were a type that's not easy to wash. read more

I rarely go to this Jewel, but it is on the way home from my mom's in Westchester, so I popped in the night before a big party this summer to pick up the booze. It was 10pm I guess. I had a cart FULL of beer and liquor, and went past several workers who just said "hi" which is fine except for they stop selling liquor/beer at 10pm. So I got up to the checkout and they told me "Ooh, sorry, can't purchase it now, too late." I was so irritated because there was plenty of beer on endcap displays and the liquor was accessible. So then I had to trek all the way to the Countryside Jewel to get all the same stuff. At least at Countryside, they cordone off the liquor/beer area when it isn't able to be purchased (as I learned one Easter morning when I stopped in before mass at like 8am). Boo toLaGrange Park Jewel. I'm giving them a bad rating based SOLELY on this one experience. read more

Similar to the typical Jewel, but smaller with less of a selection. I'm okay with that, though, especially since it's so convenient to me - I live a block away. I'm not a fan of what I consider to be Jewel's high prices, however. This is my "oops, I need something now" store instead of my usual place to shop each week. read more

This is my "only shop here if in an emergency" shop. Near my home. Expensive. Often come home with vegetables gone bad. Forced to return. I'd prefer to save money and get fresh food by going to target or walmart. Most of the employees seem unhappy as well. read more

I take back my previous review after I watched a manager scream across two checkout lanes at a man with a thick accent that was asking about a Halloween sale. I have never seen an employee be so rude to a customer, it was demeaning. Plenty of places to shop in the area and this Jewel is no longer one of them. read more

The worst jewel I have ever been to. Been goin for years because its the closest, but now I will travel as far as I need to go to never set foot in this Jewel again. The aisles are 80% blocked with people stocking. The lady in front of me paid 8 dollars in pennies to pay for yogurt. Then e cashier stacked them in groups of ten to count them. Then they switched cashiers to a lady that took 10 minutes to ring up 6 items. Worst management at a business of any kind I have ever seen. Will never go there again. Please go out of business so I'm not tempted to run in and get something really quick. Oh forgot to mention the produce is often rotten on the shelf and the meat section is a joke. read more

Couldnt agree more, too bad really. Produce dept is awful, deli service is terrible and stock is often out. Basically its a liquor store. I also have had to return meat a few times within 2 days of purchase and exp days away. The only good thing is that the lines are sort . Well bought 4 strawberries at 8 pm friday for Sweetest day for my 4 children, unfortunately we could not get to them and the plan was to eat them Sunday morning with pancakes. Oh well they rotted out. Really WTH is that, within 36 hours they were toast. "Quality" produce added to the list. What a shame this dumped forced out DeVries after 42 years. Pathetic read more

This Jewel is the worst I have been in by far. I live in Brookfield and only go here in emergencies. The employees can be incredibly rude and service very slow, which is not a surprise since they seem to be under staffed usually. Nobody seems to eat to help or answer questions. Also the prices in my experience can be quit a bit more then other places. The only good thing about this Jewel is there is a red box outside! read more

The fish and chicken I buy from here are repeatedly spoiled! Especially the salmon,don't even think about it. It's always fishy and spoiled.

I live in North Riverside and always make it a point to go to this particular Jewel Osco. The quality of their meats and lunch meats/salads is outstanding. The employees are friendly, always helpful, and I have NEVER been greeted by an employee in any supermarket except here. The pharmacy staff is helpful (ask for an OTC product on the shelf---and a pharmacy employee will walk you over to where it is) and knowledgeable. I once had a question on how a vitamin supplement I take would interact with my medication. The pharmacist said "I have to research that...please give me your phone number, and I'll get back to you today." She did! It's clear to me that the employees enjoy their jobs.....their demeanor shows it. And when is the last time you saw the store manager regularly walking the floor? I've been going to this Jewel-Osco for two years (forget the store in the North Riverside Mall--awful) and I've seen him every time. And, lastly......absolutely no parking problems.
