This store. Is always messing up orders. I have now had so many on line orders mixed up is nuts. Wish they just had the stuff you order. And not have it out of stock. So when you go the price is a mess because the deals did not work. On time they were last pulling my order. So I went in to shop and the person pulling my order was right by me. And kept saying they did not have it. So I filled my cart with over $ 100. And even went to costumer service and they were like wow. I said ya had I not been there. I am writing to formally complain about a recent FreshPass grocery delivery that was marked as delivered but was not delivered to my address. I am a regular Jewel-Osco customer and use FreshPass for grocery deliveries. Today, I received a notification through the app stating that my groceries had been delivered to my front door. However, when I opened my door, the groceries were not there. I immediately contacted Jewel-Osco customer service and reported that my order had been delivered to the wrong address. I completed the required refund request, but later received notification that my request had been denied. According to the customer service representative, the driver provided a photograph and claimed the order was delivered to the correct address. My home address is clearly displayed above my garage door. The driver would need to enter my driveway to make the delivery, and any photograph taken of my home should clearly show the address. I asked whether the address was visible in the photograph, but I was not provided with confirmation or a copy of the delivery photo. This order was worth more than $100 and included meat and dairy products. Because it was an extremely hot day, even if the groceries are eventually located, I would not feel comfortable consuming the refrigerated items due to food-safety concerns. I have never previously requested a refund from Jewel-Osco. I am extremely disappointed that, as a loyal customer and FreshPass member, my report was dismissed solely based on the driver's statement without properly confirming that the photograph matched my actual address. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed by a supervisor, that the delivery photograph and location information be verified, and that I receive a full refund or replacement for the missing order. Unfortunately, if Jewel-Osco refuses to resolve this issue, I will no longer feel comfortable shopping with the company or using FreshPass. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. This is really good food. I gave you a 10 out of 10 because the flavor is the spiciness of wasabi. Everything was on point. I'd say my only little critique because maybe the ginger in the side would be a little fresher but overall I liked it. I had a really good place. The service is quick and easy we just grabbed and grab go and lady at the register was really nice and I rung my foot over get there quick and it on the bench. It was a really nice day. I really enjoyed the place yeah atmosphere was like a regular grocery store. It was really nice. It just mean it was not dirty it was just very cleaning very properly and very well managed. FOR THE DELI. Im not sure where it was ever acceptable for an employee in the middle of taking someones order (which was two cheap chicken monday orders and potato wedges got one of each but not the last) to drop what theyre doing and pass the second bag to an employee and walk away and clock out became a norm. But its not. We got skipped and this has happened several times. Every monday and friday the employees have a thousand yard stare and never have a smooth process about it. You literally just keep throwing chicken down and bag it. Management needs to crack down on the employees regardless of whether youre supposed to be out at 1pm you finish helping who you started helping. Youd think i was talking about somebody younger this is an older fellow. Not a word about it, just walked away. If you cant handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. Rarely shop here due to the high prices but their sales can be pretty awesome. Used the order and pick up feature for the one and only time and had a terrible experience. I ordered 6 6/packs of a juice that was on sale for a really good price. I gave my credit card as is required. Got a call that my items were out of stock and they substituted with totally unacceptable items. Original order was $38. Substitutions cost only $19. I said to cancel my order which I was told she would. Have spent far too much time on the phone with both jewel and my credit card to get the $19 refunded. Ridiculously overpriced. A few sale items to lure you in. Store is dark and out of date. The entrance and exit doors by the floor are crusted with dried dirt, and the windows are always dirty. I have shopped at Jewel since 1977. Today we decided to try the new "Drive & Go" service at Jewel. Cute name. They have it setup so that you just drive in, park in a special area, an then drive out. They will take around 2 hours to bring your computer order out MAYBE. Then if you drive directly home you get a bonus. Frozen pizzas will be almost completely thawed, fresh fruit will not be in the order. Huge failure of a great new service. The management team in McHenry, IL store has failed on this one. This Jewel is pretty standard in terms of offerings and customer service, and hasn't undergone any of the renovations (yet?) that many others have. As I've tried to become more money-conscious, though, it's become clear that Jewel in general is either hit-or-miss in terms of frugality. For instance, I've been on a chocolate kick as of late, with Dove Promises being my go-to to satisfy my sweet tooth. Most ladies know that having ZERO chocolate in the house can be the difference between a happy girl and someone you don't want to contend with. Being closer to the crib than Target or Meijer, I made a special trip to Jewel to grab a bag or two. I was ASTONISHED that one bag of deliciousness would set me back $4.89! Are you KIDDING me?! They retail for $3.69! $1.20 inflation for a measly bag of chocolate is ludicrous! Screw chickens; I drove down the street and scored my Dove for $3/bag a' la Price Cut at Tar-get. NOW my pocketbook remembers why I haven't been to Jewel in so long. Sheesh. read more

Sunday morning at the Deli counter they have 1 guy working while the line continues to grow there is woman who has been with that Jewel forever. She sees the line growing and apparently has no regard for making the company money because instead of helping the poor single guy out she continues to pretend no one is waiting and goes about her work. Now there are at least 8 people deep and she just continues about her work. Finally another person comes to work, then the woman who was doing whatever before helps out. 1 lb of turkey took 20 minutes. That is truly ridiculous. I have seen the blandishments woman many times and every time she is lazier than the time before. Shame on her and them for treating customers so poorly. Well, I've said it would happen and it has. Mariano's has opened in the next town over and that's where we now go. It's worth the drive. I am so upset that Jewel thinks so little of McHenry that they do nothing to improve their sub-par store here. I called to let the Deli Mgr know that for two weeks in a row, some female employee gave my husband and a Chicken Thigh instead of a Breast . I guess you have to watch these people like a Hawk to see that they're doing! He was very rude and almost hung up on me! Went over last night for the chicken wings they have and the lady behind the counter was unnecessary rude, she taught it was okay to raise her voice with a tone multiple times when asking what kind of chicken I was going to get and after she was told which piece she aggressively got the pieces in the bag. I moved here recently and just got back from another trip to this gross store, because it's close to my house. Off the top of my head: My eyes were burning because something was burning in the deli or bakery area. Almost every roll of plastic bags was empty in the produce area. Most labels were missing from the "fresh" muffin area, next to the donuts. I would have gotten a couple of apple ones, if I could have identified them. They had dried cherries one time, then never again. The shallots I needed looked awful. Seems like every time I go here, they are out of one key ingredient that I need for a recipe, or they have it and it looks dubious. I'm going to check into other stores around here. read more

Hair nets never see them..the manger is the worse one long hair in a pony tail no hair net, cooked chickens left out on the counter why? What a fucking joke this place is. I have gone here before and purchased cigarettes and alcohol with no problem. However because my hair is bleached in my license they refuse my license. I got a beard down to the middle of my chest. She asks me what my birthdate is and address,I recite it back. She brings over some younger girl supposedly in charge and she says "yep not taking it..did u scan it?" Other lady said no. So the girl tells me I can check with the service desk to see if they will accept it. And here's where I lost my shit. I walk over to the service desk and they call someone over. The SAME FUCKING GIRL walks over and she goes "Oh..yeah..this would be me as well." I said "Whoa whoa so you tell me to go ask the service desk when you knew it would be you in charge of the service desk". She goes...."yeeeeeee-ahhhhhhhhhhh". I said so you put me through these little tests..whats your birthday what's your address.you ask if it scanned which no one did then you tell me to go get a second opinion to which I walked all the way over here and now it's you again and you just wasted 20mins of my life. Btw when I first walked over to your checkout to get cigarettes I patiently waited for a solid 10mins. Dude keep your shitty jewel. While checking out at the self check out I had 4 liters of soda and 3 12 packs of soda and some popping corn I scanned all item and forgot the pop corn so had to make another transaction . The 4 bottles of soda I didn't bag because they fall thru the bag so I have cloth bags in the car. Now I'm 83 been shopping at jewel since 1976 and never place the soda in the plastic bags. So I am slow checking out must of been there at least 5 to 10 mins .On the way out a clerk watching this area came up to me and demanded to see the receipt for the soda bottles because I didn't bag them I told her I never bag the soda's ! She still insisted on seeing the Receipt! I told her that "does she think I didn't pay for them" She said"She didn't see me scan the items I said I have been here for least 10 min and because she didn't see me , It's not my fault she didn't see me ! I told her she was embarrassing me ! I asked to see the manager who was giving me the I don't care attitude . I asked if there was anti theft Items on the exit doors and "he said no" and I looked and pointed them out and he denied that was a anti theft device and turned his back and left . I did show the receipt to get out of there ! They didn't care they insisted that they didn't know why I didn't bag the soda I told her if you missed my scanning she wasn't there and get more help . If I was going to take something it sure wouldn't be 4 bottles of .99 cent soda. I felt very embarrassed and I called their main office and they too said I was treated wrong. I was in the service business for 40 years and never treated a customer like that !They should of waited till I exited the store and then I would of showed the receipt but they asked me while I was still at the register and getting read y to leave after I finished a phone conversation . So I was there after the purchase for at least 2 to three minutes total time about 8 to 10 minutes. read more

This review is for the 15 item or less check out. It's the slowest most lethargic check-out I've ever experienced. It gets worse when customers present their Jewel-Osco gimmicks such as gift cards, obscure coupons, teacher discounts, stickers, games, wick, sheep, geese, hair or whatever else for payment besides cash. The checker fumbles about, the customer fumbles about, managers need to step over and reset the register, blinking lights, more customer service, more standing around and more waiting around. I only bought 1 loaf of bread, and 1 kitchen utensil which took me 3 minutes to pull off the shelf. Checking out took me 15 minutes. It makes me hate to shop there. As a result, I do most of my shopping at Angelo's and only buy products that they absolutely do not have in stock at Jewel. Because of all of the different types of payments available. Most supermarkets should change their 15 or fewer line to CASH only. No coupons, no discounts, no wick, no teacher discounts, no obscure credit or gift cards, and no sheep, geese or hair as payment. Only CASH. I know they have self service checkouts, but why should I do an employees job? read more

Osco is the worst place for filling prescriptions. They never get anything right...they call you to tell you your meds are ready...when you get there, nothing is ready for pickup....They do not have your insurance figured out....you stand in line for nearly 30 min...no drive thru pick up....They are all simply confused at their pharmacy. This is one of the "older" smaller styles of Jewel-Osco as opposed to the newer ones that are larger but with dimmer lighting and darker flooring like Spring Grove. The meat is usually good. Produce is produce; sometimes it's good sometimes it's not but that is anywhere. Staff is usually very friendly and helpful except for 1 of the deli people, younger man, whom I forget the name of, who seems to have a bit of an attitude; however, all the other teenage workers are nice and do a good job. The upper level employees, i.e. the ones who are frequently at the customer service desk, are helpful and courteous. On more than 1 occasion, I have forgotten a "Jewel"-only type coupon and have brought it back with receipt and they have refunded the money with no questions asked. Most of the time everything is in stock even if it is on sale. Osco Pharmacy wise, I have never had any complaints except their hours, which seem to be short to me especially on weekends. Because of this I switched to Walgreens but only because they are 24/7 and have a drive-up. Doesn't seem to be a huge turnover in pharmacy staff and most are always nice and helpful. Good liquor selection with competitive prices. Deli, meat, and bakery sections are fine. Special ordered stuff from all and never had an issue. They are better than many stores at having a decent amount of registers open during busy hours but sometimes it does get backed up. Self-checkout has helped a bit but many customers seem to have issues with it especially if you have coupons or go over a certain total, which means you need an employee to come over and help you, so if there are a few self-checkers that need this it kind of defeats the purpose of self-checkout. The system gets annoying with its not reading an item on the belt, but I am not sure there could be a different way to do it. The parking lot isn't awful but trying to get in and out on the side street off of 120 is a nightmare at busy times. Bottom line: Would pick them any day over Meijer and when we had a Dominick's in the area, still preferred this Jewel-Osco. Osco's pharmacy hours could be better but when it's open everyone is nice and haven't had any problems with insurance like I do at Walgreens. read more

I am a lifetime Jewel shopper. Grew disenchanted after the poor way they reacted to the handling of the data breach a while back, but slowly came back. Moved to McHenry in August and have shopped this Jewel at least a dozen times...and to date I have NEVER had my groceries bagged. The baggers seem to wander off at will. I occasionally get some help from a checker, but today the gentleman behind the counter, Anthony, just kind of looked at me as I held up his line bagging my stuff in those crappy plastic bags (oh yeah...this store seems to have eliminated brown paper bags as well. Doing their part to help the environment? Not sure...I've never come upon a baby Pelican strangled by a brown paper bag.) And, of course...afresh bagger arrived just as I had finished checking out and was preparing to leave. The front end of this store needs serious help. Consider me done...with all this bagging experience I might as well shop at Aldi. read more

This review is actually for the bakery. I ordered my son's birthday cake from there. I always order my cakes from them. This last time was very disappointing. It looked nothing like the picture. I knew it wouldn't be exact but this was really not even close. And the wording was not nice and centered, it was all jam packed on the upper left side, leaving the upper right side all bare, and written very sloppy. The colors bled and the wording went over the picture. My daughter's cake I ordered in June, they had her name going off the edge of the cake because they didn't give it enough space, but at least the cake was pretty. read more

I unfortunately got stuck using these guys as my pharmacy when we changed insurance. Every time I go to pick up my meds (which they try very hard not to give me) something happens. Someone has to stand on top of me while I'm getting them and they don't do a thing about it as I'm pushed put of my own transaction, the pharmacist tells me I don't really *need* my meds (so I should die?), they tell me my doctor refuses to refill my prescription and I have to call and fight with him to get more. I showed up to my appointment after that incident and my doctor told me not once did they call and request a refill? Plus getting my meds on the same day is a NIGHTMARE. They blame insurance doesn't cover my meds on certain days, so they can't have me come out once a month, but instead twice in a week. None of the employees are helpful on the grocery side either, I ask about something and they have to call around to which conveniently, no one picks up. The deli employees especially hate their job and tell it to your face, like customers can magically pull another job out of a hat and poof, make everyone happy. I do not recommend this Jewel for anything. I might as well move my prescriptions to Crystal Lake and make the hike out that way, I'm sure they'll treat their customers at least a little better. read more

All other Jewel's have their salad bar up and ready by 7-7:30 am. Great for picking up a salad on my way to work. The McHenry Jewel never has their's ready. Not even by 8 am. They have signs stating the hours for the salad bar are 7am to 9 pm. Wish Spring Grove Jewel had a salad bar. McHenry Jewel is pathetic. read more

I am a business woman who on my day off I dress down. My husband and I had experienced racism at its finest by the the front check out woman in charge. While waiting for a prescription to be filled we decided to shop for dinner, we have 5 kids to feed. The check out lanes were full so we used self checkout, not something we usually do. As I am scanning items my husband is bagging, she comes to us asking if I scanned the items being bagged, replied yes, continue scanning, I had two 20oz pops, did not bag, scanned in front of her then put in top of shopping cart, she proceeds to ask if I scanned them, I again say yes, she moves my cart & walks up to register & says shes going to check, so I told her to keep the items I no longer wish to spend my money here, a month goes by & back at the pharmacy, same lady watching my husband again. It is so uncomfortable & a shame that people of color are still treated this way. We make an honest living & were treated as thieves in this location. Will never return.
