Today, I came into the new "Shop and Save Market" thinking I was going to score deals and obtain new bread since it was around 8:30am. However, the bread was not fresh, and upon asking an employee they said they would not have any--I'm disappointed, especially considering the new rebranding. Additionally, I did not purchase any bacon due to the price. I once went here and only one cashier was on the floor, with a line that extended to the back of the store. This is highly unacceptable for a store, unless you are attempting to push customers away, which in the long-run decreases sales--which no business wants. Also, with no one to ask or no supervisor around (Anthony, the store manager is the exception since he often talks to customers and creates a connection), the poor cashier can occasionally struggle--especially, with having to bag and scan at the same time while have to deal with angry and demanding customers alone. read more

Grayslake Butera: Deli service is consistently unsatisfactory. There is no sense of urgency even when several people are waiting. Yesterday I was there and there was a line. There was only one person behind the counter, however another employee was available to help. He came out of the back of the deli, saw the line and left. The produce is often unacceptable, especially the asparagus. I have complained to the checkers and management and they just don't seem to care. read more

One of my coworkers recommended this grocery store for its fresh produce and sales. I don't really look at the coupon inserts in my mailbox as much as I should.... especially feeding my bottomless pit children. But I vaguely recalled seeing the store name so I dug out the paper and decided to check it out. First tip: check the sale paper below you go. Their produce section is huge! And if you are looking for the specific type of tomatoes that are on sale, you are going to want to know what it is called. But they are wonderful enough to offer the insert near the front door if you forget yours at home. Second tip: stock up! When items are on sale, if you can store the extra, buy the extra. Let's just say I have enough pork chops for a while at a price that would make your eyes pop out of your head. This store has that wonderful small grocery store feel. You know if you came here regularly, they would know your name. It has the little old lady buying cat food, the friendly baggers who ask you do you need help to your car, etc. I will definitely be back here to shop again! read more

Overall pretty happy with Butera, decent prices and selection. I took a star off for their new policy to scan driver's licenses when purchasing alcohol. I'm not sure what all information they get when they scan my DL, but I'm not comfortable with it. The only thing they need to know, is if I'm of legal age to buy alcohol. They don't need, nor are they entitled to whatever additional information they collect from that scan!! read more

This is my new go to place to shop. I love their meat selection however go for the more expensive chicken. The smoked turkey is great to make stock or flavor with. A good selection of international foods. Good deli selection and non-homogenized milk which can be hard to find. Great place close to home. read more

If you end up buying Salami here please make sure you smell the product first before buying it, do not go by the expiration date. This is what had happened to me, I purchased Salami at this store located on Center Street on Sunday, May 26th. The next day, the Salami had a foul smell so I decided to return this to the store on May 28th (around 8pm) to get a refund. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but the person at the service desk (her name was Dawn) was very nasty to me in front of two other customers she was helping. Right off the bat she had an attitude as if I was making her job more difficult, what I thought was odd was that she was nice to the other two customers but was nasty to me despite me being polite to her. She then accused me of lying when she smelled the Salami herself and quipped "It smells fine to me" with a sarcastic smile on her face. She didn't say anything to me after that and pretended I didn't exist. I just don't understand how some people can treat others like that, but I hope Dawn realizes that she needs to treat ALL customers with respect, not just the ones that you prefer. read more

I have zero complaints. I just came here to pick up some vegetables and a few other things. I was pleased and surprised to find great corn tortillas at three packages for $1. That is amazing! I was able to get my almond milk here, too. The checkout person was friendly. Since this was my only visit here so far I'm reserving that last star. Very worried, purchased bratwurst Saturday for todays meal. The sell by date is 2/12/2019, but I ended up tossing the entire dinner. The flavor/seasoning were horrible and I hope we didn't just get food poisoning. Also purchased a meat loaf blend, same sell by date, now I'm concerned. Brought my husband as he generally does the shopping [Mariano's/Trader Jo's] and he said the pricing was higher...deal/no deal? NOT! read more

There's no winning at the Grayslake Butera. First, one has to be very careful as I've brought home a lot of rotten produce from this place. Then, the deli department is a test for patience. While the wait time can stretch into infinity with only one person trudging behind the counter, you can see other staff wandering around, wrapping a piece of ham just to unwrap it and then wrap it again. Some move the salad containers around, rearranging them endlessly. If you are lucky enough to see one of them sneeze into their hand and not perform hand hygiene, this is your breakthrough moment. I confronted one lady with that and received immediate service! Don't even try to complain to CS, I can tell you from now that the department's manager is off today but you can try again tomorrow. Once I got so lucky with no customers the deli, zipped through like Sonic, in and out feeling euphoric. Just to find out that the packer placed my soft fruit on the bottom and the heavy rough packages on top. There's no winning at this store... read more

I was a regular shopper until we moved to Texas. I loved this store and it's people. From the great southern belle at the deli to the produce workers to Marie at check out this is a great place to shop. I wish we had something even close to the prices and quality in Texas. read more

Several times I have been to Butera Market in Grayslake Illinois including today and employees were not all wearing masks. There is a person who regularly has mask on his chin, not even covering his nose or mouth. Today I was passed in very close proximity with an employee with mask hanging from one ear. When I went to report it to the front desk. There was a man at the checkout with no mask at all., The woman at the desk was no help and said she would not say anything to the customer and I was told by the woman at the checkout that they do not enforce the mask mandate. Why do we have one??? When I asked to speak to the manager, the person who responded was the person with mask hanging from his ear. When he arrived mask was not covering his nose. Instead of addressing the issue,  He said I should give him one of my masks as I wear two to prevent infection due to my age/health. I contacted Grayslake Police and they said they did not enforce the mandate either. This ongoing COVID Health Concern.  These people are handling food . read more

If you asked me before the covid19 crisis I would give them 5 stars but after visiting the store recently I don't believe I'll ever shop there again. Absolutely no effort to support social distancing. Shelf stickers just came up next to you with no regard of spacing. Also the only store I've been to that did not at the least offer hand wipes to customers it have an employee wiping cart handles. Too bad I've been a customer for many years. This display of disregard will cost them this customer. read more

Love the new store. My only compaint is no meat counter. You can ask for a butcher and if they are there they will cut steaks for you. I buy their fillets and other steaks all the time. Watch for the angus specials for the week. I am not much of a deli buyer however Thor prices are very reasonable. So glad to have another grocery store option besides jewel read more

Supermarket was not crowded, employees were all so friendly, from the produce, deli and checkout. The young boys working there restocking were very sweet. We are very thankful for such a pleasant experience. read more

Butera Market was a great place to take my students with special needs on a field trip. The staff was so accommodating. The store manager opened and register for my students to use exclusively. He even sent us back to school with cookies! It was a great learning experience for my students. read more

Bought roses , took them home and unwrapped them to put them in water and they disintegrated in my hands. I gathered all the pieces in my hands and brought them back to the store. I'm walking up to the " customer service " counter and before I even get there Briana sticks her finger up in the air and spats " You're gonna have to wait. I'm helping her first. " she does whatever she was doing with that person then grabs the bag of roses off the counter and starts filling out a form. She continued to be nasty, discourteous, self righteous, and rude. This place is GROSSLY over priced and the produce is AWFUL. With everyone buying groceries online now with free delivery and or pick up you would think Butera would be trying A WHOLE LOT harder. read more

They alway have great sales, and some of the sale loss leaders are priced very well. The 2% milk is good, almost always cheaper than other stores. We get Dean's half and half with no preservatives for our coffee here all the time because it's the best and usually 30 cents to $1.30 less than nearby competitors. Nice local grocery, I do most of my shopping here. Friendly staff, fresh produce and meat, and a few people even know me by name! My only gripe is that they've been using the same radio station the entire time I've been going there (at least two years)! I think they should change it up from time to time! It gets old hearing the same 10 classic rock songs whenever I walk in, I can't imagine what it must be like for the employees hahahaha poor souls! read more

We were excited when this opened to have an alternative to Jewel and all was fine until the last month when every week we have had something spoiled from there. One week it was chicken (bought two days before), then we have gotten horrible produce that had to be thrown out and now we bought Bubba Burgers and two days after buying them every burger is freezer burned. Went to this Butera 1st time in lieu of the Jewel on Rt 120 which is my normal go-to. Just wanted to see what the store was like, prices, etc. I won't be going back again. The produce section is actually better than Jewel's, and the Deli department is huge. Except you can stand waiting at the Deli counter forever as there just isn't enough people to handle the customers. Day I was there, one millennial kid was cutting some meat, taking his own sweet time while 8 or 9 people stood there looking at each other in obvious contempt of the lazy turtle boy. He made zero effort to speed things up. I ended up leaving without getting what would have been $50-$60 worth of meat/cheese there. Rest of store was pretty clean, but location of various grocery items didn't always make sense. Compared to Jewel, this Butera market was not as expensive, but didn't have the brand name goods I look for. I bought the 3 for $12 fruit bowls (same as Jewel offers), but the containers were so tight I could not get the tops off. Had to cut the suckers open. Talk about stupid packaging. At any rate, I find the store understaffed, a bit baffling to find staples quickly and their store brands suspect. Difference in pricing not enough to keep me from Jewel or other supermarkets. read more
