They were crispier than what I expected but very tasty. We also ordered a beef brisket noodle that had very chewy, bouncy noodles and soft beef brisket in a savory, spiced soup. I ordered a fry noodle with sauce and mixed meats that included sliced beef, intestines, and tripe along with eggs and sliced cucumbers. It was extremely good and I would recommend it for anyone looking for this type of dish. It was mildly spicy but mainly spiced as opposed to hot. Would definitely come back! We absolutely love noodles and we love dumplings so when we saw this, we had to give it a try. We started with the cucumber salad (this is our litmus test!) it's quite refreshing with cilantro atop! Those with peanut allergy, beware, it comes with peanuts on top too. We ordered the scallion pancake, edamame, xiao long bao, and dry noodles. The XLB was quite good, a little in the smaller side and what I loved was the side soy + ginger sauce (some places don't give that nowadays!). It has a peanut based sauce with chili oil that just hits the spot. However, I was sad that the soup dumplings were not to my liking. It had a very sweet, almost honey-like, taste that I wasn't the biggest fan of. The pan fried baos were also okay, the meat to bun ratio was way off with too much bun, but I did like that the bread was soft and not too chewy. Stopped by on a Wednesday evening and my wife and I were pleasantly surprised as we wanted a quick meal before running errands. There is a tablet that's provided with lots of pictures that you can order directly off of with accuracy. The front staff who helped us was very kind and double checked with the back staff regarding an onion allergy my wife had. My first time here and I would say that I really loved the ambience. It is a really chill and low-key spot. I felt relaxed while eating my meal because it wasn't too loud. The team was really welcoming and friendly. I also appreciated the authenticity of the food and the people. This is a great spot for a family meal, a date, or a solo moment with your laptop. I've been waiting for a few visits before boasting about this place. This has got to be on my top 3 fav spots in Katy Asian town right now. First off, the place is clean. Second, the staff has always been friendly and attentive. So just the service itself has been consistent my last 3 visits. I really like their small plates and their order design. They use ipad menus and you submit your order, which I think is nice because I like to see pictures of food before I order. So far we have liked everything we've tried which includes: the plum smoked fish, popcorn chicken, edamame, beef pan fried bao, soup bao, and scallion pancakes. The plum smoked fish is my favorite! the flavor is so good with the crunchiness, you gotta be careful with the small bones though. Their soup bao is delicious with just the right about of soup and flavor isn't too salty. Beef fried bao was a little oily but still was good. And their popcorn chicken is also very crunchy. I really want to try their soups, but am waiting for colder weather. So far I have yet to be disappointed here, so I think this place is worth checking out! read more

Let me preface this by saying we have only ordered JiBeiChuan (JBC) via UberEats. We cannot speak to the quality of the food in person. We've ordered from JBC three times. The first 2 times were great. We always ordered their minced pork dry noodles (this reminds me of dan dan noodles). Each bite was flavorful and their noodles had a great texture to them. But, with our 3rd order, their dry noodles were extremely salty and inedible. I'm sure this was just an oversight. But, we did not feel compelled to order from them again. Summary: I saw an ad on Facebook or somewhere online about this place and decided to give it a try. It turns out that the previous restaurant, iEats Rice Noodle, had closed down and been replaced by this new noodle spot. Jibeichuan also has a location in Bellaire that opened about 1 year ago! Service: It's a small place with limited seating, so don't expect too much in terms of service. They hand you an iPad to place your order through the Chowbus app, which is essentially an online ordering system. They didn't refill my water, and at one point, someone--possibly an employee--turned on a fan that blew directly at us, which felt quite unprofessional. I still tipped them a good amount and hope they improve in the near future. Appetizer: We started with the Braised Beef Shank. The portion was okay--not too much--but for $8.99, I expected either exceptional taste or a larger portion. The flavor was decent, but I was hoping for a more pronounced braised flavor. The soup dumplings had a flavor that was a bit unusual to me, with an inside that had a braised pork-like texture. It was different, but the dish only came with about six dumplings, which seemed a bit light. Main Course: We ordered the Sauerkraut Beef Slice Noodle. The sauerkraut added a tasty, tangy, salty, and sour flavor profile, somewhat similar to kimchi but without the spice. We had the option to choose between two types of noodles. Since I'm not a fan of rice noodles, I opted for the noodle that was more like egg noodles or regular noodles. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, though nothing particularly stood out as exceptional. The only thing is they need to be more careful of not touching the bamboo steamer as the skin rips and then all the soup is lost. I love the mala soup base as it's actually spicy. The brisket is very tender and it seems like a fair price. The chicken nuggets were seasoned well but I don't like that the pieces are so small so it's more breading than chicken. Husband had the fish soup which we were scared may be too fishy, but it wasn't. The broth was mild and clean tasting and the fish was very soft. I liked the shrimp with rice noodles but there was a seasoning I didn't love; it was a personal preference but was prepared well. The dumplings were good not great; I've had better but you could tell were handmade. The real stinker was the fried coconut sticks: I thought it was going to be like dough or rice and I think it was rice flour. It was just gloopy.
