This place is not my favorite but I'm also spoiled with real Chinese dim sum in Houston's Chinatown. If you are in Katy and don't want to drive far then this may do. They do have a variety but portions are small, overly seasoned (salt and msg) so doesn't taste traditional and way more expensive than most dim sum places that are way better. A lot of things taste frozen and then warmed up. The service is not friendly and we've been more than once. Dim sum with a modern twist! finally trying this place out and I love their heavy emphasis on fried garlic. The classic steamed dumplings were so good - sho mai/shu mai and har gow. the riced rolls with Chinese sausage was different than the usual but who doesn't love sausage? If you don't want to drive all the way to Bellaire, serviceable dim sum in Katy plaza here. A bit pricey and no pushcarts, but its fresh and food comes out quick. Service is a bit hit or miss and the restaurant isn't huge, so be prepared for a wait. All that sad, for dim sum offerings, it's fine. They got your siu mai that are fairly well stuffed (but could have finer ground pork), har gao with a good amount of shrimp but thicker dumpling skins, xiao long bao which are individually put in aluminum cups that have soup but are kinda meh. Pork and chive pocket dumplings are pan fried to a crisp and homey. The spicy wontons had great balance and were tender, probably the best of the dumpling rotation. The fried food rotation is crispy but not greasy. The football is crispy, though filling a bit light. The shrimp balls are very crispy and super packed with ground shrimp, which pairs well with the sauces. Sesame balls are a bit denser than I would like, but the red bean filling was good. Turnip cake, while not deep fried was a good soft, crisp contrast. Soy sauce noodles are good if you need some filler, especially for the kids. The menu is not extensive like the Dim Sum shacks in Houston Chinatown. But the popular items are there. The restaurant also applies some modern touches to the standard dim sum and hor teas. Overall, our party of three were really satisfied with the food. The dim sum were fresh, tasty, and not saturated with MSG. Table service was extremely attentive and friendly. After being seated they give you the menus and a order sheet. Then they bring out all of the food. You pay at the counter at the end. The siu mai (shao mai) was the best I've had in Houston. You can tell they are hand made and not frozen bought! So juicy and flavorful. They're also pretty big in size too! The pork soup dumplings were okay. I wasn't a fan of the vinegar sauce. They have pictures on the menu which is handy and it comes in Chinese and English. The food did take a while to come out but the dishes came out piping hot and fresh. I was curious about the Lava Buns since I had never tried it from the restaurant style and I actually liked it. There were plenty of filling and the salted egg yolk part was tasty. The shrimp rice noodle wrap was my absolute fav because the rice noodle was smooth, bouncy and not too soggy. I've been searching for a soup dumpling place for YEARS after COVID shut down my haven, and this is definitely a contender. The steamed pork buns were light and fluffy, filling was flavorful (one or two more spoons would've been perfect). Got three XL soup dumplings: wasabi, garlic, and truffle. Started off with garlic because I knew what flavor to expect and it delivered! Wanted garlic and got a full pop of it. Truffle might make you feel fancy, but the dropper allows you to control the intensity of it. Wasabi, I could eat an entire gallon in the comfort of my home so only God can judge me. We order the 10-12 piece BBQ Pork Char Siu thinking this would be the most filling part to go along with our dumplings based on the picture. WRONG. Very thin, quarter size pieces like I'm enjoying a tasting menu. Mind you, they were delicious little morsels but I still don't think worth the $15. At this point still VERY hungry. The pork soup dumplings come out first, I found these to be sour and the complimenting ginger sauce with it also not great- pass. Finally had the Sichun Spicy Pork & shrimp wontons, these were the best part. The flavor was good, little spice, savory, fresh chive and pork flavor and smooth, consistent texture to the wrapper. First time here with my parents over the weekend and I am impressed! We wanted our Dimsum fix but did not feel like driving all the way to Bellaire and potentially waiting for a long time for a table. We found this place located in Katy Asian Town (We were on the side of Kinokuniya) and I am so glad we did! There were quite a few people inside already but we were able to get a table right away. The interior is soo pretty and is very aesthetic. There are high top tables and the tables are huge so for 3 people we definitely had a ton of space! There was a menu with pictures of the food and also a paper menu where we could check off how many of each dish that we would like. They have the traditional dimsum items and also some items that are new to me. For example, Siu Mai but make it chicken, shrimp, and lemongrass version. (We ordered this and it was really good!!- very fragrant and flavorful) As soon as we handed our paper to the waiter, not even a minute later we were being given dishes from our order. We were all super shocked because we did not think that the food would come out that fast. The staff were all super friendly and attentive to take our empty dishes really fast so we could always have a clean table. As for the food- the food was pretty good, not bad for not being in Bellaire and I could see us definitely coming back when we need some Dimsum but don't want to drive too far. The only thing that I did not like was the Shrimp Ball- it was really dry on the inside and wasn't what I am used to. I think it might have been overcooked or sitting out for a while. However, all of the other things that we ordered were good. For dessert, we ordered the baked lava custard buns. It did take a minute for them to come out but it was really good! I do wish that the "lava" was hotter though. It was kinda lukewarm-warm so it didn't burn my tongue but it felt like they kinda forgot to bring them to us when it came out. Service is always attentive and quick- ordering, bringing out food, payment table side and providing to-go boxes. Pork shrimp shao mai 4.5/5 average sized but good flavor and juicy. Cucumber salad 2.5/5 crunchy with decent sauce but no additional seasoning. Fried taro pork puff 3.5/5 needs more taro filling but a good crunch and crisp. Baked golden lava bun 5/5 warm liquid center (tricky to eat cleanly) with golden crisp on the outside. Would have recommended they bring this out last though since it's dessert rather than the 2nd plate they brought out. Top-tier dim sum, and I've tried nearly every dim sum place in the city. Standards like the taro puff were well executed, complemented by creative dishes such as the crave-worthy mushroom fries. We were not greeted/seated fast either, but I understand the employees could have been busy at that exact time. We got the steamed shao mai, 2 fried shrimp dumplings, and bbq pork bun; all of which are classic dimsum staples for me. The steamed items were so over-steamed it tasted like absolute mush. No flavor or seasonings at all. Terrible. I was a bit appalled that they could even serve that to paying customers. The only things edible were the fried dumplings and they were not that great. Tasted basic. My suggestion? Unless they change up their recipes, I don't ever see myself coming back nor would I recommend anyone I know to go here. I've been to this spot multiple times, always ordering the same dishes: Fried Garlic Shrimp Fried Rice, Shao Mai (Shrimp & Pork) Dumplings, Har Gow, Chicken Feet with Black Beans, Pork Ribs with Black Beans, and Fung Pao Calamari. The consistency and quality never disappoint. Having grown up eating a lot of Chinese food, these dishes somewhat bring back a sense of nostalgia--they're the closest to what I remember from my childhood back home in the Philippines within the Houston area. You order through a paper in which you mark the items you'd like and bring it up front.
