Issue: My 2014 Kia refuses to drive over 45 miles per hour. Jiffy Lube: "We cannot work on a car that has the engine light flashing" I coast down the hill to a place that has "Christian" in the title. Naive, naive, naive. The place is willing to look at my car that day. Wonderful. It's the morning. They'll let me know when they're done. I walk all over Evans since it's a lovely day. They have my car past 5:00. So it's been... 6-7 hours. Luckily I didn't have work. Finally I wait in the building so I don't get locked out past closing time. Eventually, I'm told "You're going to need an entirely new engine. Your car isn't safe to drive." I'm shaken. I had just bought the car less than 3 months ago. I ask if they know any tow truck services they trust so I can take my car home, as I was a pharmacy technician at the time and flat broke. I had spent that March through August walking everywhere I needed, so I just accepted my fate of walking everywhere once more until I could figure out how to save for a multi-thousand dollar fix. The person at the front desk then says "Oh, it's not serious enough that you need a tow." My inner dialogue went "Hm.. but you just said my engine needs to be replaced. My car isn't safe to drive... why WOULDNT I need a tow truck?" So I pay the $91 diagnostic fee on my credit card, a bit dumbfounded that $100, which was the equivalent to working 6 hours overtime at my full time job to afford the service, fixed nothing. My engine is to give out at any second, but I'm okay to drive home? Quite embarrassed, I called my veteran friend who came over that afternoon, ran a test on his diagnostic machine, and asked if I hit a bump recently. I did. He told me I had activated some sort of knock sensor when I did that, which then activated a safety mechanism, which was why my car wouldn't go over 45. He cleared the code on his device, and my car was magically fixed :) A year later, my car is still running great. No further issues. So I recommend avoiding this place. My friend fixed the issue in five minutes for the price of a thank you coffee while this establishment took an entire business day to attempt to scam me into buying a whole new engine without clearing the code to allow me to safely drive home until I could afford their "fix." Anyone who knows the driving culture in Augusta would understand that driving under 45 is dangerous business around all the irritated, impatient car-owners in this city. I don't appreciate anyone who uses scare tactics to uneducated, trusting people. It's embarrassing to be treated as if I'm stupid when in reality, I never had a father to show me how to run simple tests on my car to try and resolve issues myself. Rather shameful to lure people in with Christian decor when taking advantage of people in my opinion, but that's just my thoughts.

I follow the OEM service recommendations pretty meticulously. One of the listed services at 100k miles is "drain and refill transfer case fluid". I come in at 92k miles and ask what the Christian Brothers recommend. Of course they recommended over 3000 dollars worth of service. I declined more than 2,000 of it. One of the service's I didn't decline was "Transmission fluid flush". This was a service Christian Brothers recommend. I didn't bring this to them. It was recommended to me. A quick google search, "Should you flush the transmission fluid on a high mileage vehicle", says "If your fluid is old (over 80,000-100,000 miles) and has never been changed: Do not flush it.". 10,000 miles later. My transmission is trash and needs to be replaced. Another shop says it's 2 quarts low and full of metallic shavings. This other shop was immediately concerned when I told them it was flushed 10k miles ago. Says they never perform flushes on fluid this old. I would like to give Christian Brothers the benefit of the doubt and assume they are just unintelligent novice mechanics running a shop that's good for oil changes and that's about it but I can't help but wonder if they just recommend as much service as possible. Either way, avoid this shop at all costs.

On 06/23/2026, I took my vehicle to Butler Automotive West, Inc. for diagnostic and repair services. I was charged $2,500 for the repair. Within the same hour of picking up my vehicle on 07/02/2026, it broke down again with the same issue that was supposed to have been fixed. When I contacted the shop to report the immediate failure, I was told it must have been something I did, even though the vehicle had barely been driven since leaving their shop. They refused to take responsibility for the failed repair or offer a reasonable explanation. I had to pay the tow service because I wanted it towed to my residence instead of being towed to Butler Automotive again. The business charged a substantial amount, did not fix the problem, and then suggested towing the vehicle back to their shop--potentially to charge additional fees. After paying $2,500, my car should not have broken down the same day. I paid nearly $200 for diagnostics alone; they did not even diagnose the issue properly. The tow man told me immediately that the alternator or the battery is the issue; it's the fuel injection system. I asked that it be checked when I gave them my car to fix, and they clearly ignored me and obviously didn't even do a diagnostic test, and their mechanics can't be smart. Butler Auto is A SCAM. Money-hungry liars. I cried to them, literally cried, begging them for help with the bill. I let them know my situation that I couldn't pay $2500 upfront, begged for in-house financing, and they refused to help in any way. Desired Resolution: A full refund of $2,500 for ineffective repair services. A written explanation of the diagnostic and repair process. Accountability for the immediate breakdown following service.

Second experience was terrible, after transporting the vehicle to a location in Waynesboro he asked for additional funds for parts and when photos were requested he stated he could not provide them as the old parts were already disposed of. Communication was terrible. Once he stated he fixed the vehicle and was bringing it back, he continuously stopped or pulled over (GPS locator). We drove the vehicle not even 5 minutes down the road and it over heated. Coolant and oil was everywhere inside the engine bay. The original head and bolts (that we paid additional funds to have brand new parts and to be replaced) were still on the vehicle. Multiple parts and wires are no longer connected and bolts are missing for parts to remain in place). The car can no longer be driven at this time until we are able to obtain the funds for the repairs that Lynn was immensely incompetent in completing. All attempts to contact Lynn were met with him blocking us. We have requested our $1750 with zero response. ONLY USE this mechanic, if you want to be out of money that could be spent at a shop or minor issues repaired. OTHERWISE don't waste your time or money.
